Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

Been playing for the last few hours, the game is pretty tight, I have unlocked Gannondorf and Marth so far. Game runs a little slower but smoother than Melee. Im really enjoying it so far.
 
1 hr till I leave to go return a game to movie gallery, eat, and depending if there's a line for brawl, go to GS to get my reserve canceled. Gonna log off now and GOOD LUCK to all GS tourney exhibitioners!
 
fucking bizarre Western NY weather. So now I gotta brave the elements to pick up smash tonight. If there's one good thing about this weather, it's that hopefully not alot of people show up for the torney tonight and I can sweep it :)

Ok, thanks. I just got the automated message garbage yesterday that said show up at 10 for a party type thing. So I am going to head up for 10 I guess see whats happening.
 
I love late-hitting news. Some Gamestops are apparently allowing people to use GC controllers instead of the Nunchuk/Wiimote thang. Here's hoping I'm lucky enough to get a GS like that one. Bring your controllers just in case, people!

Woot! WNY in the house! Yeah this weather made me rethink going to TRU or anywhere else. Just going up the road to Wal-Mart and back down, no sense in being out on the roads when it's this shitty.
 
Just stopped by a Best Buy in Clifton NJ that is having a midnight opening and still allowing people to reserve the game. This is a note for the couple of posters who were concerned that they could not get the game tonight b/c the did not pre order.
 
Just got back from my Brawl tournament (they held it early at 2 pm). And I had a blast playing with Brawl again.

Adam (the employee) started setting up the tournament with a tournament mode and calling our names out and asking which character we wanted to use (throughout the whole tournament). I picked King Dedede for 2 reasons, he doesn’t die and because he is a badass. Well Adam screwed up and made it all CPUs instead of people so we had to go back again and do it. During this time I started to second guess my choice and maybe use Ike who might be easier to play with, but I stuck with my man (penguin) and chose Dedede again.

The tournament was filled with Fox, Ike, Shiek, Link, and Mario with a Pikachu, Wario, and Yoshi thrown into the mix. The rules were Wiimotechuk controller, 1 minute, no items, on Battlefield, so just pure skill for the players no items to interfere nor obstacles to mess with you. The first round saw some crazy matches including a Yoshi player who didn’t get hit at all, and he seemed pretty intimidating.

First round: Me (Dedede) vs Link

I started out by throwing out some Waddle Dees though the third ended up being an Inhale due to the B button sticking, I spammed Side-A and kept Link at a distance but close enough so he couldn’t use his weapons and I eventually got a KO with a Smash Up-A with about 45 seconds to go. Link then started taking over the match and got me to about 180% with 10 seconds to go. At this time I decided to avoid Link and I jumped up several times off the screen and wasted the remaining time. Win

Second round: Me (Dedede) vs Pikachu

I wasn’t very intimidated by Pikachu, I was going to take advantage of my weight and just bully him, but Pikachu’s speed started to get the best of me and I got trapped in a combo early on and KOed. I came back fresh and spammed Side-A and Waddle Dees so he couldn’t run away from me and ended up KOing with a Side Smash which drew tons of “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!” from the crowd. The match went to sudden death and Pikachu hit me about 3 times but I survived and threw a Gordo at Pikachu and won, I also became the crowd favorite, I was using someone unique and doing pretty good with him. Win

Third round: Me (Dedede) vs Shiek

The crazy Yoshi player ended up losing to this Shiek so I was kind of worried, but Shiek never got me off the ground and I ended up getting a KO with a side smash which again drew the crowd’s attention. With about 10 seconds to go I started getting comboed so I escaped and flew off screen so he couldn’t KO me. Win

Semi-finals: Me (Dedede) vs Fox

I didn’t want to face Fox at all, if someone was able to stay away and spam lasers I would get raped. This Fox player however wanted to combo me, which he started doing quite well and I was eventually KOed. I was getting frustrated and I accidentally killed myself when I was comboed off the stage, I hit Up-B but missed the stage. I was down with about 30 seconds to go, I ended up hitting a Side Smash and KOing Fox, but I was still losing with 15 seconds to go. Fox was running away and I couldn’t catch him but eventually he ran right into another Side Smash and I won with about 3 seconds to go. Win

Finals: Me (Dedede) vs Mario

The previous round was Mario vs Mario and I was wholly confident I could beat him easily, this was the one match up I really wanted the whole tournament. However even if I lose I will advance because the kid was under 13, so now it was bragging rights and a trophy at stake for me. The match was rather uneventful, I grabbed the lead about 10 seconds in due to a Side Smash and he started to play super aggressive, but I spammed Side-A and kept him away from me, I ended up misplaying an Up-B (again, sigh) and the game was tied with about 15 seconds to go. I spammed a couple Waddle Dees and kept him by the edge of the stage and I dashed at him and hit A (THE DEDEDE TRIP!!!) and he was knocked off the stage, and started to recover, I charged up Down-B and put an exclamation mark on the tournament with a massive KO. Win!!

I won the tournament everyone was surprised Dedede was that good and I was congratulated by everyone and even convinced several people to use Dedede when Brawl comes out. I went to the counter, got my trophy and certificate for going to the next round. I had tons of fun and actually plan on using Dedede a whole lot more when I actually get the game in hand.

Just called my GS and it looks like they're expecting people to start lining up at 8-8:30 for the tournament. I'll be leaving in another hour or so. Anyway, good luck to any CAGs entering and to any CAGs looking to score a copy anywhere else!
 
Hmm I now know my second thing to do once I get brawl after I try out Link, try out Dedede. Well I am going to go, I will be leaving in half a hour, the tournament will either be over or going when I get there, but I don't care. I just want to wait in line for this game, and maybe browse EB games for a hour or two for something good to buy or wait in my car listening to some music if they wont let me in the mall for some odd reason.
 
Zerowing, thanks for letting me live vicariously through your actions. I'm really pumped to play Dedede (have been since he was announced). Way to rep a new character and win. As to everyone else playing in tourney's tonight, write down your story and post it on here; it'd be great to read (there are no GS within 30 miles of where I am and the weather is shit so I'm stuck).
 
Hey guys quick question for people that are still around. Can you play all of SSE with someone else (2 player) or is it mostly 1 player with another one jumping in on occasion?

If you with the tournament you progress to the next round, right? How does that work if the next round is 200 miles away? Do you have to drive out?

Yes.

From looking at a bit of the 2nd round list, I doubt it would be more than a couple dozen miles for most everyone.

EDIT: All right, I take that back. It could get a little lengthy. But, then again, I'm looking at the WV sites, surely they must have more 2nd round places for most other areas.
 
just got back from a tourney, was kinda lame. Don't know if this is the norm, but all the characters were pre-selected so I was stuck with Wario. I made it to the 2nd round and got knocked out in the closing seconds of the match by Mario. All items allowed, quite a few smash balls, quite a few Kirby Air Ride things. It really felt painful using the Wiimote and Chuk. Got to head back for my copy of the game at midnight.
 
i heard there was a problem with the game , the gamestop workers said some older wiis got an error when the games were put in. is it true??

I have a launch Wii and my game works just fine. It had to install a firmware update first though, but that went well.

I just called my local Walmart and was told they're not going to be selling copies until 7:00 AM. I asked if there was any logical reason for that, and I was told that they didn't know. I asked if that was a corporate decision or if it was just their specific store, and the person on the phone told me that they were not sure.

After Walmart ran the Halo 3 launch so well, and my EB Games had a huge lines of people waiting to buy the game even after midnight, I decided I wouldn't preorder games anymore. Looks like that has now changed, and Walmart can go :censored: themselves.

Yeah I know what you mean. That is part of the problem I had getting a wii at walmart. They wasn't sure when they was saleing them. Then they claimed they lost them then found them. It makes me think to be a big company you people don't have nothing together. Hopefully they should have them tomorrow. It want sale out like the system will it? lol As crappy as my luck really is I bet my wii want play it like some people mentioned. I hope that is some sort of rumor.
 
Just got the game and finished the tourney at my local GS. Preselected characters and Wiimote-Nunchuk combo. It was harder then I thought to get used to the controls on the fly, although I did at least make it past the first round. I lost to the person whom eventually came in second place, seemed he at least had some idea what he was doing.

Our tournament was kind of odd since we had 18 competitors, and it only allowed you to choose 16 or 24 people configurations, so they just had computers fill in the rest of the spots. Half of the first round people lost matches to the computer players, and somehow one computer character made it to the finals and won the tournament! :roll: I was kind of surprised... either Level 7 Zelda was pretty good, or everyone there had no idea what they were doing. We ended up having the last 2 players who played the computer play in a second finals match to determine the winner, though I thought it would have been hilarious if we somehow sent a computer to the next round as our local champion. :lol:

Just got back from my tournament. First round, Link vs Pit (I think). First thing Link does is jump up......and fall off a cliff. No joke. Later the other guy died by just falling off randomly, and then Link fell off again later. Basically the match was decided by who was able to not kill themselves the most.

I played Dedede against Pit. We were pretty equal until he got the first smashball of the tournament and took me out. I really underestimated how slow Dedede would be, so I couldn't seal the deal and lost. Now I'm drowning my sorrows in Oreos and a glass of milk.
 
The Wal-Marts here in town were not going to put their copies out until the morning managers came in! This was after telling tons of people on the phone that they would be selling copies at midnight.

They pissed a lot of people off. I was able to drive across town and grab a copy at Gamestop.
 
Woo hoo just got my fucking copy. I am loving the fighting pace of this game. I tried out all the new characters unlockable from the start, very awesome. I unlocked
Ness and Marth
already. Now I will start subspace emissary in a few, got to go grab some food real quick.

This game is just fucking AMAZING. I can't say it anyway else, now I have to decide if I sleep or not tonight :lol:

I'm stuck in the kinda beginning right after you fight Rayqayza as Fox / Diddy. I went through a door, it's completely dark and I have no clue where to go or what to do, seems like I'm stuck in a box

I just got done playing about 3 hours or so of Brawl. Fun single player, but more fun with a buddy. Funny story about unlocking a character(name drop, nothing too spoilerific)---)>
Captain Falcon ran off the edge of the map for TheKaneRobot and I to unlock him. That nukka is on dope! Should have saved the replay.

Anyone else like the quarter shooter for more trophies? It is pretty fun.
