Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
Okay, critical question.

Is it at all possible to spot-dodge Ganondorf's flame choke?
Yeah, it is. Just tougher to do in lag (obviously). Didn't help that you had two Ganons going after you that match.

Arr! The 4 people who are online are...all playing each other!

Edit: I'm adding you, crystalklear! That'll teach those bastards to have fun!
Damn Joe, you dominated that game.
Thanks for the compliment! I'm surprised, because normally I don't do as well in FFA with Dedede. But the rare occasion pops up where I, well, do. :)

GGs to Arikado, hero, maigo, evergoo (you were simply overbearing tonight as R.O.B. and Ike), and I think that's it (Sorry if I didn't list you).

My complaint for the night: I can never perform my chain throw properly on people online. Granted, there are ways to get out of it, but if I'm on my game it shouldn't happen as often. I have to tech chase, and that seems to be less successful.

GGs to JoeB, Arikado, Maigoyume, and Hero.

JoeB: Pikachu double team FTW.

Arikado: Against Falco, I had you w/ my lazer beamz and gyroz. Too bad I couldn't finish you at 240%. Damn was I pissed. Lol.
You should try playing against Mr. Beef again. I think you are more than capable of seeking your tourney revenge =)

Maigoyume: You made me afraid of thunder spamming w/ your Lucas. Good aiming w/ down B.

And if any Marth players care to elaborate: How do you do the green sword combo after doing forward b 4 times? This move could surely improve my game w/ him.

dmk: gg that last sword match was really close :)

arikado: i've NEVER gotten torched that bad before, lucario and lucas are my mains too, any tips on how to get better? i definitely could use more sidestepping

JoeB:.................i don't wanna talk about it, but any tips for improving would be much appreciated

and sorry to whomever i missed, gg everyone

Haha... I got KO'd by Joe's Gordo because I tried to reflect it back towards you.

Thanks for the compliment. I'd still like to play your ROB 1v1 because I need experience against him.

Well, I can't really think of anything in-depth at the moment because I'm tired, but there were some times where I just had you figured out. I'd bait you into an attack or a roll and punish.

There were a few times where you had me spaced out with Lucario really well, but you allowed me to move in and that's where I racked up damage and kept you off the stage. Abuse his projectile if I'm far away, just to keep me on my toes, especially if I'm using someone like Ganondorf. As I gradually move in, pick a spot where you can attack after you launch another projectile. I don't play Lucario, so I don't really know what's good of his other than dair.

As for your Lucas, same thing... he's got a very spammable projectile, so take advantage of it (as long as you're not fighting another reflector/absorption character). All I can really remember is our Falco vs. Lucas match. Lucas can be gimped really easily, which is pretty much what I did on all three of your stocks... that's his biggest drawback.

Either way, good games. The only way to get better is to practice and keep playing.

And you're like the fourth person that has asked me for advice for some reason.
Yeah, you seemed pretty excited to play as ZSS. Enough to flat-out kill yourself twice. :)
Yea lol, I was thnking earlier today that I wanted to try her out, and then I saw you as her and it reminded me.

Alright, I'm done for tonight. Good games to Rig, Maigoyume, JUS (not sure who this is), CK64, and Mad D. In our first 3-player match, I donkey punched CK64 on his last stock right as he taunted. Sorry about that.

JoeB, I'm calling you out! 1v1 honor match tomorrow!
And you're like the fourth person that has asked me for advice for some reason.
You should probably take that as a compliment! You're a great player (obviously) who is superb with a variety of characters! That's why we want advice :applause:.

Also, to maigo, I can't really say anything because we haven't 1v1'd for a) long enough or b) recently enough. I'd love to play against you and see what I can say. :D

EDIT: Of course, good games to evergoo. I loved teaching you Marth's down stab thing (or trying to). And I don't know if you got this, but I tried to congratulate you for spiking me. It's a hard thing to do in Brawl! I can't wait to see your Marth improve.

Those R.O.B. matches were very trying. Dedede has to space things just right and Zelda has to counter-spam. Ugh.

And Ike - well, he took care of business as usual.

EDIT2: To zitanix: Uh oh! I'll do my best tomorrow! :)

Who's David? That guy is pretty good. Epic Marth vs. Metaknight match.

And lol @ the Wolf vs. Kirby match. That first kill with the Side+B was pure luck, I was trying to spam more lasers and accidentally tilted >

GG to Mad D. Sorry about only playing one game - I wanted to be done before we started (tired), but saw you were seeking and didn't want to leave you hanging. Also, your Falco is quite good!

Dunno what you mean by gimp, but that was one of the few times I've used him, and apart from a very short range (compared to the characters I usually play as), he seems to be pretty good. His side B seems to be a very nice ground attack, as it doesn't put you into that recovery mode if you don't lift off the ground. The plain B seems nice enough, though kinda hard to steer with a little lag. His down smash has decent launching power, his fsmash may or may not, I don't think I ever connected with it, its really short range and has a long recovery.

Probably the best part is being able to chase people down off the edge of the screen with ease.

My only guess for that match was that Mad D was also not usually a Marth player and didn't know the sword reach well enough. It seems to me that Marth should be able to take Metaknight, especially when MK's range is so short.

Metaknight eats Marth alive as far as I can tell. The only thing Marth has going for him is his side-B sword dancing business. Otherwise he cant get anything off quick enough and has low priority in comparison. Hit him with one d-air and you can either casually grab the ledge or follow up for one, two, or three more d-airs as you push him off the bottom of the screen.

Lucario stole Marth's air combos. =D

A good trick to practice with Lucario is jab-jab-side+b. Against heavy characters, it's an instant 70% to them.

I like your Lucario.

GGs Marc. I would keep playing, but my eyes need a break, and I wanted to check if anyone else was on (I owe zitanix a 1v1). If no one is on in a few minutes, I'll come back. :)

Those were some really close and intense games! Is this your first time playing Zelda? Because, frankly, you handle her better than I do! Which is actually pretty sad for me... But good for you!

EDIT: Oh, and I think I attacked you during a taunt once or twice. Sorry about that!

EDIT2: Oops. You just logged off. I hope you read this!

Yes, that is the first time I've gone online w/ Zelda (and I don't do local multiplayer).

I wouldn't say I'm better than you. I need to practice spacing myself in my aerial game b/c D3's hammer is killer.

And in general, it's not hard to get decent/good at new characters, since we all know each other's tendencies =P

Good games, Joe. Doesn't feel like I've improved much. I gave it my all and won...a game. And I call shenanigans on that last smash hitting, I should've grabbed the ledge. =P

Kado, come back and play bad characters so I can regain my honor!

Well, those were a series of good games, zitanix! I recorded all of the sub-3:00 ones, so I'll try to upload those in the next few days. I forgot who you beat me with, though. The first guy? I don't remember. Bah. Was it Falco?

GGs to Arikado. That Marth match was simply hilarious. Your groove with him must be off right now. I'm going to let you and zitanix 1v1 for a bit before I interrupt.
Pikachu, actually. I thought I had ZSS and DK, but alas, it was not to be.
I thought you did as well! Again, really close games! I really enjoy playing against you!

Ahh, that never gets old. =D

Haha, I didn't deserve that double reverse fsmash kill, and you guys wanted me dead!

Good games to Kado. I was most infuriated by my inability to edgeguard your Zamus. She's an evasive little bugger! My favorite was the Sheik versus Ness fight. Man, does that kid have a strong back throw!

EDIT: I'm taking a Smash break for the moment. I'll be back on in a couple of minutes. :)

Yeah, couldn't really get anything going with her though. I think Ness may have the most powerful throw in the game... not sure though.

Thought I might have come back on you with Falco, but of course, I get hit with a Gordo. Couldn't get the reflector out in time.

That's odd. Zelda is not on there, but Sheik is? To me, Zelda has much more going for her than does Sheik. Wolf is great, but I think he's just too easy to gimp - same thing (though to a lesser extent) with the other two spanimals. I'd say lower them for that (just a bit).

Then again, I'm far from a top player!

Well, I think that tier list is bases off one week's results, as the rankings fluctuate a fair bit from week to week. I find it strange that they can distinguish Snake, Falco, Rob, and Metaknight from Fox and Fox from Game and Watch, Diddy, Toon Link, Pit, and Marth. I don't see the tiers distinct enough to separate those groups so cleanly (yet), but I do believe Ganondorf is one of, if not the most limited characters in the game.
