Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

The game is still way too young to have an agreeable tier list. Top/S will probably stay the same, but everything else is still up for debate.

I just came to the sad realization that the .bin's in which Brawl saves replays do not contain video files. :(

Oh well, I'll figure it out somehow.

Most of my faves are in the C and D areas. :lol:

I don't really care about tier lists though. I wouldn't even be on a level of play where they matter.

And Mario higher than Luigi? I like Luigi more. :l
 
I played Melee religiously in order to unlock everything. I can't seem to do it for this game :whistle2:k
I have all the Classic trophies (yes for Zero Suit, Sheik, and all three Pokemon) and only a handful of Final Smash trophies.

Ugh.
I do want to get everything, eventually. I wanted to have everything unlocked by the time Mario Kart came out.. :cry:
So how is everyone doing so far with unlocking stuff? I know I have like 570ish stickers, andaround 420ish trophies. I think I have all the songs, with the exception of the few that need certain challenges to unlock.
 
The feat of unlocking everything will take me years. I'm not one to just play through constantly. I love the game, but it will be forever and a day for me to "beat" the game in its entirety.

That and the fact that I go to my buddies house to play his wii a lot too doesn't help.

:( I don't really like the characters in S/A. The B category has lots of characters I like (BESIDES Game and watch)
 
I think my top three (not tiered, but just favorites to play) are:
Snake - I just like his move set a lot
Lucario - I get the crap kicked out of me a lot so it helps that he gets stronger b/c of that
Wolf - just starting to play as him over the past few days and I like what I've done so far

Let's see. I have all of the challenges except for the following:
"Beat All-Star Mode with x characters"
"Beat Boss Battles with x characters"
"Brawl for x hours"
"Get x KOs in Brawl"
"Collect all stickers"

Right now, I'm taking one character a day and playing through All-Star and Boss Battles. Doing it in cast order, I'm currently on Luigi.

I've got all but one song (which is unlocked by Brawling for, I think, 30 hours), all of the random appearance trophies (need SSE, challenge, and Final Smash trophies), and about 630 stickers.

I'm getting there! :D
 
If you want the "brawl for x hours" challenges, you can have 2-4 players do a 1-stock no items brawl on any generic stage (battlefield, FD, etc) overnight, then finish the match in the morning. Also, co-op all-star mode doesn't count towards beating all-star with every character, so don't waste your time doing that.
 
Ice Climbers have a 0% to death guaranteed throw on every character in the game and they are C rank?

I havent seen anyone that mains Rob, Fox or Pit make it very far in the 5 tournaments I've been to.

Its all about matchups. Someone who plays Sonic & DDD has placed top 3 in the last 3 tournaments I've been to. Sonic can actually hold his own against Snake, strangely enough, but he cant scratch Metaknight.

I think the U.S. collaborative tier list would be decidedly different.
 
How is Diddy so high? I haven't found a person that can get anywhere with him.

And I agree with the good Dr. Ice Cimbers should definitely be higher, even if only for their side-smash A. A good hit with both climbers and anybody above 50% is done.
 
I've seen how good Snake is, so it's no surprise he's that high. Falco is a complete mystery to me, though. Chain throw to 40% on average, sure, but other than that, he ain't that hot. He needs to get way too close to deal any real threat.

I think that "Wobbling" (the Ice Climber 0-death throw) is soft-banned anyhow, so that was probably a factor in their placing. I also don't see a reason for Fox to be in a tier all his own, since he too isn't that hot.

Gotta side with DMK when it comes to it all being about matchups. Sonic and Wolf are my Lucario's worst matchups, but I at least know how to take them down (keep Sonic airborne, and Wolf....well, just make him use his Up+B).

I wish I was more readily available to play you guys, but it looks like I'm only available to play on weekends since I'm working so much...and this weekend I'm playing in a Double Dash tournament, so that's less Brawl time. =(

EDIT: Go on YouTube and look up a guy named "Nanerz," or "N4n3rz," or something to that effect. I've played his Diddy in person, and...well, let's say that I've never been consecutively 4-stocked in a tournament match like I was against him.

zitanix: How many characters do you play and who are your real mains? You're great at finding my character counters.

I just don't have a single character I feel waaaay better with. I mess around a lot, so I don't really understand all of any specific character's matchups yet. I can't remember countering any of your characters offhand, but if you think you were, I'd like to know which.
 
Heh, I'm just terrible at controlling him. Also, he tore up my Samus all the time in Melee, so I still have bad memories with him. =P

Well, he was ten times better in Melee. Heh... funny that you mention that, because Falcon and Samus were my mains in Melee.

Hahaha... I only did that because I know you were trying to suicide KO me with Bowser a few times. :lol: Whenever we got Hanenbow, I kept trying to turn all the leaves red so we could get the flower at the top. :lol:

Really good 1v1 matches with you. We need to do it again some time. Good games.

Good games to Mad D as well. You just pick up Falco and Marth? I don't think I remember you using them last time we played. And that Olimar vs. Olimar match was hella confusing at times. :lol:

I'd say your bests are Kirby and Diddy. Also, I think if you could establish an edgeguarding game, you'd be much, much better. I rarely (if ever) see you get aggressive whenever you have someone off the stage, and with a character like Kirby, you can be extremely aggressive with his recovery. His bair is good, and his dair spikes. Get the hang of that, and I think you'd be even better.

I was actually really surprised that my Toon Link was able to handle your Ike so well. Normally I'm using Olimar, but it never occurred that Toon Link would be a good counter to Ike.

Your Pikachu was sure giving me issues however, damn his dsmash.

I've been playing like garbage with Kirby lately. thanks Mr Ass (inside joke)
 
The whole aggressiveness off the map thing is tougher than I thought it'd be to get down. Wolf is ok, but his recovery is just meh (often times I'm jumping to far off the board to try and kill someone). Lucario is good but I think is kind of slow (maybe I'm wrong) and Snake I just can't do anything with sadly.

Just something I need to work on more. Hoping to own my friends with it though tomorrow or tonight.

Thanks Mad D. The humbling is always appreciated. That last round with Diddy was just annoying with those banana peels! Haha. Overall I think I need to grab more, but I just have trouble getting that close.
