Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
When you do go confirming things (this doesn't apply to just you) please use like triple spoiler tags. Something like
You sure?
It'll ruin it for you!
Tingle and Omochao are the guides in the game
Lol at that third spoiler.
Actually, this is one that I don't want. It would just be weird to have Ridley shrunk down so much to fit in Brawl.
Size doesn't really matter in Smash Brothers, the characters are just trophies brought to life.
Olimar is so small the other characters should be able to step on him, but he's about the same size as everyone else in Brawl.

I'd have to agree with Crotch on this one. Olimar doesn't make that much of a difference, because he's small, then gets to scale with everyone else, like Pikachu. With Ridley, he's already huge. If they scale him, he looks a lot wimpier, and a lot less impressive.

At the very least, I'll be sorely disappointed if Ridley is not a character in the Subspace Emissary.
You're the first person to ever agree with me on that one, Beef.

EDIT: I should add, Ridley as a full-size boss character? Awesome.
Hey, you always trust the Crotch, no matter what the situation.

With Ridley, I'd want him full-size, in all his glory, not some small little shit.

"Oh man, I got Ridley! ...Why is he sorter than Ike?"

A Ridley boss fight? Now that's something.

Ah yes, I did mean boss character.

Ridley would just feel too out of place as a playable character. While Samus and Ridley have a long history, I just feel that other characters are more deserving and better fitting of a playable character spot than Ridley.

I'm actually really happy with the roster as-is right now and if no one else was in it, I'd be perfectly content. About the only thing that could make me more pleased than I am now is if they brought in some characters from old square games on the NES/SNES. Chrono? Hell yes.

But of course never happen...
I'm aware of that. But it still looks wrong.
Bowser is also quite a bit bigger then Mario in the 3D platformers, but he's shrunk down for Melee. Of course Bowser is about the same size as Mario in most of the 2D games, so obviously their is no one correct size for Bowser.

I haven't really played any of the 3D Metroids, so it's possible they have a better character then Ridley, but Ridley is the only major Metroid villain I know that would work in a fighting game.

Well, there's Mother Brain, but nobody really cares about Mother Brain. You find me 50 people that like MB, and I'll admit that I'm wrong.

Mother Brain wouldn't really be good for a fighting game, it just kind of sits there and does nothing while the weapons around it shoot at you.
Since there isn't anything else to do, why not have everyone post their ideal Brawl rosters?
Ah, yes. I've thought about that quite a few times, with the extra months I've been given to think about it. My list is in addition to the characters that have already been announced; I like everyone on the current roster except the Ice Climbers, and they aren't too bad.

Mario Series:
I'm actually okay with the current amount of Mario universe characters. Baby Mario/Luigi would be cool, I guess, but they're not that big of a deal to me.

Zelda:

Midna riding Wolf Form Link- Midna would never leave Link's back, but that would allow for a pretty diverse selection of attacks and specials. Midna could do most of the B-Specials and taunts, and Link could do the normal attacks and grabs (Link jumping on someone and tearing chunks out of them would be too cool).

Ganondorf: I would like his moveset to be at least a little bit different than Cpt. Falcon's. The Falcon's moves just didn't fit him right. It's not like he doesn't fight enough in the Zelda games. Maybe they should give him the two swords he had in Wind Waker.

Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass Link: Definitely better than getting Young Link again.

Donkey Kong: I don't really want any more DK characters. DK and Diddy are plenty for me. All of the other candidates are better off as assist trophys IMO; they'd be taking up slots better used for other characters.

Metroid: I don't know of any more Metroid chars that would make good fighters; I'm not that much of a Metroid fan. But I do know that Baby Metroid has be an assist trophy. Oooh! Better yet, he could replace that Lip's Stick item! Having Baby Metroids eating people's heads would be awesome.

Pokemon: Just bring back Jigglypuff and Mewtwo (or someone that plays like him).

Kirby, Earthbound, Fire Emblem: I'm not enough of a fan of these games to make any good suggestions. IMO, bringing back Ness is unecessary; Lucas seems to have a very similar moveset. I could Marth/Roy coming back, but their movesets would have to be tweaked to differentiate themselves from Ike (and especially each other, if they both return).

Star Fox: NOT KRYSTAL. NO. She was not cool. But they could add in Slippy the Toad. He could be like the Dan of SSBB. "HAH-HAH! I beat you with Slippy! You suck!"

Other Nintendo Series:

Captain Falcon- He was a fun character, I just don't want Ganondorf to have his moveset.

Mike Tyson (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!!)- Bring on the ear-biting Final Smash.

Third Party Characters:

Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)- Hey, don't forget this guy was in the Ninja Gaiden NES games. But I do think he should have the XBox 360 game appearence and weapons-they look quite cool. His presence would also help make up for the fact that Grey Fox is not playable.

Those guys from Contra whose names I can't remember- Now there's an Ice Climbers-style duo.

Billy Bimmy and Jimmy- Again, good candidates for double charactership.

Black Mage (8-Bit Theatre version)- Knives, viciously evil taunts, and Final Smash Hadokens. What more could you ask for?

Simon Belmont- A pretty good candidate, I'd say.

Revolver Ocelot- He could be a true expert's character if the player has to learn how to ricochet bullet off the environment. Unfortunately, he would suck on flat levels.

Metal Sonic- Knuckles and Tails are cool, but they would probably play a lot like Sonic. Metal Sonic, however, could have all sorts of strange specials and smashes. Plus flight, if I recall correctly.

She got off her ass for Super Metroid though.

Bigger than in Smash, sure, but not enormous like Ridley. And yes, I know that Ridley wasn't all that big in the original. And Samus was a male cyborg, shut up.

Hmm... Fake Kraid. SA-X (admittedly, a little hard to differentiate from Samus). Any Chozo, Ing, or Luminoth warrior. Admiral Dane. A Berserker (think about it - that would be awesome). A late-stage Metroid (they get legs as they age - see Corruption and Return of Samus). Pretty much anyone from Hunters.

Super Mario Sunshine much?

Shh, Bowser is actually a quantum based villian. You change his size by measuring it.

how many mario adventure non-spin off games are there and Sunshine is supposed to be the definitive canon on Bowser's size?
If more than one Nintendo character made it into Sonic & Mario, what makes you think more than one Sega character won't?
It's in the title. Sonic and Mario. Of course it makes sense for half the roster to be Sonic characters. The same doesn't apply to Smash Bros because the whole idea of smash bros is Nintendo icons fighting it out. Smash Bros is a series. A nintendo series. This is the first time outsiders have been let in. I'd LOVE to have Tails maybe even Knuckles but I highly doubt we'll even get them as assist trophies.
Speaking of Sonic games and Shadow, I think Sega should retcon all but 90% of the Sonic Universe. It's too cluttered with clones and characters nobody cares about. The series has really hit the floor. I think it needs a franchise reboot, and the best way to do that is concentrate on gameplay and Sonic Vs. Robotnik endless struggle. Nintendo's has already used this successful formula for years with Mario Vs. Bowser.
As much as I personally love it. That consistency storywise is one of the biggest complaints I constantly hear about Mario games. "It's always the same story yada yada yada". Sega wouldn't move in a direction to open themselves up to such criticism. As much as they should
Agree exept one thing. Amy existed before Knuckles and before the Saturn. Doesn't mean she doesn't suck though.
I thought Amy was from Sonic CD. Knuckles from Sonic 3.
Eh. I only played a few levels of Sunshine.
And you give ME shit for not playing Grim Fandango?

No sir and no ma'am.

I'm finishing Psychonauts this week, so you and MC (provided you are allowed to be included in this scenario) have one less thing to bitch about.

Playing Sunshine now would be like going from caviar to corn bread.

Yeah, it would definitely be hard to go back and play after playing Galaxy. I'm not sure why I held onto it when I was clearing out games to pay for the Wii last year, as I doubt I'll ever touch it again.
CD was released in '93 while 3 was released in '94.
well that just feel wrong but I'll conceed the point as I'm probably incorrect.
well that just feel wrong but I'll conceed the point as I'm probably incorrect.
It sounded wrong to me, but Wikipedia confirms that he's correct.

Sonic CD came out on November 19, 1993 in NA.

Sonic 3 came out on February 2, 1994 in NA.

Sonic and Knuckles came out on October 18, 1994 in all regions.

How dare I be doubted! :D
Although, I had no idea that Sonic and Knuckles came out on the same day in all regions, interesting.

By the way, the person who said before that there should be an ice climber like character of the Baby Mario Bros, I just wanted to say that I think that would be awesome.

Amy Rose would be an awesome & hillarious assist trophy.
Having her appear can have her run around hitting people with the hammer "SONIC!!!!!"

I wonder if Robotnik will be a boss...:whistle2:k

A boss in Subspace Emissary mode, you mean? I don't think that would fit very well. But he would make a fine assist trophy. That big huge robot he was in at the end of Sonic 2 would be a good choice.

For the record I didn't doubt you.

I think Robotnik and Amy would make decent ATs but I wouldln't want to see them as ATs unless we have Tails and Knuckles taken care of first. That said I doubt we'll get Tails, Knuckes and Amy and/or Robotnik

Robotnik as a SSE boss would actually be a really good fit, imo. He fits the bad guy theme just right.

anyone consider one of the metal gears to be a boss?

also, most of you don't know this, but I'm glad that I may or may not know that my favorite character in the smash series will be back again. and no, this character has not been announced or shown on the smash site yet.
So looks like Lucario will be a playable Pokemon, eh? Not bad. But I wonder if this means good bye to Mewtwo :whistle2:k
Most likely or else Mewtwo should have also shown up in the first image.

In that case, it would also disprove any more Mother character as well.

If Ness & Jiggly are back, then we can be almost CERTAIN that Luigi & Capt Falcon will return. They already have an FZero AT..so for Falcon to NOT be in the game would be retarded ;)

I feel fairly confident that there will be both an F-Zero character, as well as an Animal Crossing character, considering that both have icons on the dojo.

Of course, Sakurai could just be playing mind games to screw with us.

A friend of mine is really glad to see Ness is back in.

I'm actually glad to see Jigglypuff. Hopefully, they make her stronger for this version.

Now that several of the returning characters have been revealed by the video I wonder if we'll get them on the Dojo over the next few days.

Sakurai has been very careful not to accidentally make a mistake like this on the Dojo, I'm sure he is pretty pissed at the people who made this video.

Nice catch SMMM! I'm glad that Jigglypuff is back. Forget Ike, Jigglypuff is the n00b killer. That sleep is murder if your opponent doesn't know about the mobe.

I'm not terribly disappointed at the apparent loss of Mewtwo, but I did like his moveset, even if it was sort of weak. I've never played the recent pokemon games; is this Lucario fellow similar enough to Mewtwo that he might play like him, or is he just too different?

Edit:

I doubt it. He knows that once the JP release date hits, there's going to be a flood of leaked info anyway.
is this Lucario fellow similar enough to Mewtwo that he might play like him, or is he just too different?
Lucario's a fighting/steel type as opposed to psychic so they won't play too much like each other, but they are both humanoid if that matters.

Oh man, I was all over Lucario. In the pokemanz games, he's about as opposite of Mewtwo as you can get. Quick, hard-hitter, and he just looks like a jackal badass.

Plus, the movie he was in, although HORRIBLE, made him look like an even bigger badass, launching Aura Spheres like so many Hadokens.

Lucario can actually be a pretty cool character, so I welcome this. I may not use him much, but it'll be a nice addition nonetheless.
