Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
Since the game is out in Japan(or will be soon, I forget) we should be able to get a full list of all characters and stages, if we haven't already..
Another 2 weeks-ish
Like I said, you then have to leave the headset plugged into your controller which is annoying. If you unplug it, you then get the chat through the TV speakers or stereo.
I first thought was "You're kidding me". I take back what I said about these Oprah parents coming on TV
and complaining that their kids are being assaulted verbally. There's no way you should be forced to mute everyone to get radio silence.
Is it me, or does Sheik look a lot less feminine? :(

GameFAQs is aparrently already on the subject of Sheik's increased femininity.
ok we need to decide if Shiek is MORE or LESS feminine. For the record Shiek was supposed to be a boy remember. Girl hiding as a boy should probably look not so feminine. After all Link was fooled for most of Ocarina of Time. (Let's try to restrain ourselves from making jokes about Links observational abilities)
When we all FINALLY have the game and we play it for hours..upon hours..upon more hours (clearly avoiding the fact that you SHOULD look for work..) and after ALLLLL the unlocking in this game: If there are no surprises at all in terms of CHARACTERS, I'm going to get pretty upset.
Well Olimar wouldn't have been known if not for the delay. So I take that as a good sign that there are characters still to be revealed.
Look at Ike's moveset. Extremely simliar. A definite indicator that Roy and Marth will not be making a return.
off by a mile. First off Ike's moveset doesn't look THAT much like Marth/Roys. A much much better example is Lucas. For multiple reasons including that he was supposed to be in Melee like Dedede. That said I'm still holding out for Marth/Roy, Ness, C. Falcon AND Ganondorf. If we're going to cut clones I'd be much more worried about Pichu, Y. Link and Dr. Mario.
Who is going to spoil the game and secrets for themselves when the game hits Japan?
I think I will, since it's going to be hard to avoid spoilers for more then a month.
I never even unlocked all of the Melee characters (I know I didn't unlock Mewtwo or Mr. Game and Watch, but I think I unlocked everyone else), so I might as well find out who all is in it, so I don't miss anyone.

With the JP release roughly 1 to 2 weeks away, all the characters should be known by the end of the month. I really hope the roster is huge, considering, Nintendo probably won't make another SS game for the Wii (if past history holds).

After scrolling up and reading some posts, it seems like a lot of people are thinking the same way :)

I'm going to spoil it for myself as soon as possible.

I will probably give in and look at the spoilers. I know that many people will be talking about them anyway. Rather read it online before hearing someone else mention it.

well it's nice to see how End of Day FS will work.

as for spoilers.. on Jan31 I stop looking at anything Brawl. I'm not going to try to avoid informtion by any means that's way too much effort but I"ll stop going ot the fansites. I'll probably stop hanging out on this thread. I'm a patient guy I'll just chill till March. I have a ton of backlog:)gc: :gba: :ds:) to catch up on. I'm only 40 hours in FFIII I got I,II,IV, and V to get thru. Maybe VI will drop in price and I'll pick it up as well. I could wait out 2-3 months on FF alone. I have killer 7, 3-4 Splinter Cell games and I still haven't finished RE. No when Smash comes out I'm not going to go hunting down all the unlockables just to know them a month before release. I'll wait.
I did just see an Ouendan trophy, yes?

Hmmmm.

I don't want to get my hopes up.....
There was definitely an Ouendan trophy in one of the newer videos. I'm not getting my hopes up yet either. I want them to be assists, but if the Ouendan & EBA only make it in as trophies, at least they get a mention. Hopefully something from StarTropics at least gets a trophy this time around as well.

I tried searching the thread, and didn't come up with anything. So if this has been discussed, sorry.

In the last EGM issue (#225), page 65 there is a medium sized square picture on the bottom right. Who is that character with grey hair in the middle?!? There's Link, Zero suit Samus, Ike, and somebody else.

Is this a new character, or am I just slow today, and can't figure it out?!?

EDIT: Perhaps an assist character?

Since I don't have the latest EGM, I googled what you said and multiple answers came up as:

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist12.html

So I figured I'd throw it your way and see if that's who you're talking about.

EDIT: Looks like you're talking about the picture at the bottom of the page in the link.

Yes, that's it. Good job! Also, what did you search? I didn't find anything. Still can't! :p

You were right about the assist character, it is this person from Sin and Punishment:

I used the search:

"EGM Issue 225 Page 65" and a few variants.

I'm so jazzed up about Kirby's Final Smash. It looks like it knocks everyone far away enough to allow him to eat the Maxim Tomater without anyone being able to him him. Also, from what I've been hearing from people who have played the demo, it seems like he's about as good as he was in the 64 version.

After all Link was fooled for most of Ocarina of Time. (Let's try to restrain ourselves from making jokes about Links observational abilities)
I don't remember Link not noticing that Sheik was female - just not figuring out who she was. Then again, it was kinda awkward with Link not talking. And my not having played for a couple of years. Regardless, Sheik is based on a new, almost-in-Twilight-Princess version of Sheik. Definitely more feminine.
First off Ike's moveset doesn't look THAT much like Marth/Roys.
His neutral B is the same, and so is his down B. His up B is different, but I don't know what his forward is.
A much much better example is Lucas. For multiple reasons including that he was supposed to be in Melee like Dedede. That said I'm still holding out for Marth/Roy, Ness, C. Roy was the rather weak protagonist of one game. Marth was the very weak protagonist of a couple of games. I'm expecting Falcon, Falco, and Ganondorf in with (somewhat) different movesets.

Interesting update today. Stickers increase your abilities in Subspace Emissary, but not in standard brawl. Hopefully a sticker brawl mode will be included that lets you use your upgraded characters in a brawl.
I swear... Other than voice chat and ranked play... Is this game missing anything?
Viewtiful Joe. MIRITE, MAIGO?!
I LOVE tonight's update!

One of the best ones we have seen in quite some time.
I was loving it until the very last bit about not being able to use them in standard brawl. I wish there was just an option to turn off the usage of stickers rather than not allowing us to use them.
It just makes the act of collecting them seem not as important/useful, but maybe (hopefully) that will change when I actually play and find the story mode impossible on the harder difficulties without them.

I guess I never thought of it that way. But it sounds like they did it to keep the playing field level for the "hardcore" and the novices. Somebody never playing Brawl would get beaten even worse when another person had stat-helping stickers attached.

Seems like it's a safeguard against playing offline with people you don't know. If I invite new players over to play and I secretly have stickers attached, I would be given a big advantage. They probably thought of this, and that's why they decided against the On/Off switch for stickers (some less observant people wouldn't notice the option was on).

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME

When people come over, they betta just know an ass whoopin' is up ins.

Bout to pay a deductable on that ass whoopin'.
This game will destroy every other game that has ever been made.
I'm beginning to think that Sakurai never wants us to play any other games. Ever. Again.
I like the fact that you can lose some if you die.
if they made me lost form my stock of stickers that would suck but it seems like only the ones you collected that run whcih is .. ok. tolderable.
Viewtiful Joe. MIRITE, MAIGO?!
I haven't thought about VJ in a while. He would be perfect for Brawl. Heck he even had a knock off if I recall correctly. I daresay he might be cooler than Megaman.
what day did they decide to delay it again? :whistle2:(
Shiekday.

Losing half the stickers you gained... I think I need a little more detail on that. Lose half the stickers you gained from the last run? Current run? All the runs together? I assume it's the current based on the wording of todays news.

Honestly I doubt I'll bother putting stickers on stuff until I go for Intense difficulty and have plenty of doubles.

Half on your characters base. You can see them falling off the trophy on the game over screen.
Half on your characters base. You can see them falling off the trophy on the game over screen.
you can see them falling but not necessarily off the bottom of the statue. that could be them falling out fo the characters 'hands' as it were.

But if I had to guess I'd say you're probably right. it's either off the statue or from the failed run.

I am like. Stickers were an "Eh, I guess that's kinda neat" thing when they were first announced. I wouldn't be surprised if this new functionality came in during the December-to-February delay. Would be nice to have an option to use them in regular fights, though.

What I'm really happy about, though? Different "types" of attacks are finally starting to matter. In Melee, there were different elements for different attacks electricity, fire, dark, etc. However, none of them really mattered. Young Link's fire arrows didn't do anything different than regular Link's light arrows. These stickers actually make the elements matter.

Plus, it would be awesome if different elements affected Pokemon differently. It's already been more-or-less confirmed that this is so for Pikmin. Burn, Bulbasaur, burn!

Losing my stickers forever when I use them on a trophy is lame. I guess they were trying to make it like "real stickers."

Also, I guess these aren't usable online. It would have made more sense for people to lose them forever if they could be used online. When using stickers, this could create a chessmatch-like tactical maneuvering (although there would be an ideal sticker placement and collection) between people.

At the same time, it would be lame for someone to "hack" their game to have tons of stickers or play through a bunch of times accumulating a lot of powerful stickers.

Maybe, Nintendo could have had sticker and non-sticker matches.
