Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

I am actually fine with a March release date. Sure I may be crazy but right now I got to play through...

Soon enough
No More Heroes

So I got enough gaming to last me but yeah it does suck since I really want to play this badly.

But when your entire gimmick is based on the premise of "I'll only come back and be a dick when things happen that are annoying to Nintendo fans, and proceed to rub it in their face," it's difficult to want to not see you as nothing more than a mindless troll.

Who's more the fool...the fool who posts silly, dadaist shit, or the fool who indignantly follows him?

Me: being silly with a nugget of truth thrown in.

You: genuinely annoyed/irritated.

This news would 'hurt' me, too, if I wasn't already anticipating a delay into Q2. I mean, this is like, what, 33% of my Wii purchases in 2008?

I seem to remember you running off with your tail between your legs at least a few times from here, calling everyone who knocked your nonsense equivalent words, or whatever flavor of the weak insult you mustered up between shaking hands and a nervous scowl. Something about how we're all fanboys and the like. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to find if I had the time to do it.

If I were you, I'd think twice about being condescending about something you've already failed spectacularly at doing yourself.

I'd also think twice about spouting off a lot of shit in a forum that has earned you a lot of expected contempt from fans of a system you think is so magically fun to hate, especially when your entire persona is built upon it.

So now I get to ask - who is the fool?

Me? The one who isn't going to be run out of here anytime soon?

Or you? The one who already ran himself out?

Pretending I'm following you around is pretty rich. It's like going into the 360 forums and calling the 360 a POS, and then acting surprised when people come to argue that.

When you step into the dragon's den, little mouse, be prepared to face grievous peril.

Delays are fine with me. Working through a backlog on the 360, and wasn't planning on picking up this until I'm somewhat caught up anyway (good deal aside of course).

You might wanna lose the Santa hat. It's already mid-January.

P.S. By "follows", I meant it in the following-up-post sense. Just like you did again.

I realized that the power of this Final Smash is going to depend greatly on what stage Snake is fighting on. On really big levels, like Hyrule Temple or Lucas' city level, it'll be weaker, since his enemies have a lot of room to avoid his shots. But on smaller levels, it'll be much stronger. Final Destination and the old Brinstar level are three platforms. Heck, those grenades are probably hit an area-of-effect; they might damage an area as big as the entire small platform!

This brings me to an interesting unanswered question about Final Smashes. When playing on teams, will these attacks follow the normal friendly fire setting? If they don't damage teammates, or if friendly fire is set to off, Snake's Final Smash could be pretty good. Just have your buddy grab one of your opponents, and pump those grenades into him. Depending on how fast and how damaging those grenades are, that might be an insta-kill.

NO

This game has been delayed enough.
Everyone needs to stop being FINE with this!! I know nothing is confirmed, but we MUST be outraged if it gets pushed back another month!! This will be almost TORTURE!! We have been teased enough with this game.. and I just fuckin want to play it.

What makes me me even more pissed is that they have me by my balls!! If I wasn't escatic about this game I'd say "fuck it" and pick it up ANOTHER time.. but no.. I'll be there day 1 kicking SOME store's door down.

If you're fine with a possible delay.. well. Fine. Just don't say that's fine around me
It's ok, lilboo.

We'll all dance around for you in frilly outfits.

Everything will be fine.
Thank you. :)

I appreciate how you & Yukine cheer me up..

Frills! My FAAAAVORITE!

They look cool.. but I'm a little confused. It doesn't look like attacks really?
So B pulls out a Pikmin. You can have up to 5 of them. Ok.
Now OVER & B will throw the Pikmin..
Up makes a chain to recover..
Down just calls the Pikmin back???

I have no doubt that he will be fun to play as, but I'm just a bit confused (like the blog says  ) I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

THIS IS WHERE IT WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE TO DELAY IT!
I only see the update on the French site, so I'm having a fun time reading the text in a bad stereotypical accent.
That's the only place I can see it on the front page, but on the US page, if you take the characters link and go to Olimar, it's there.

The direct link's working fine for me.

This is actually pretty cool. I'm very curious about a few things, though. Firstly, if your pikmin are killed, can you pull more up? Secondly, how long does it take for the Pikmin Chain to come out? If it takes too long, you won't always be able to save yourself. But that might be an intentional balancing factor for the move; it looks like it has long range. Thirdly, does it do any damage if it hits someone? If you hit someone with a pikmin, do they latch onto your enemy, thus shortening the length of your safety chain?

Oh yeah, lastly and most importantly: HOW DO YOU GET THOSE PIKMIN OFF YOU?!

...Hmm...
Wow, and here I thought Olimar was going to be a normal character.
Questions and quirks aside, I'm really glad we're getting some funky and innovative characters to play with, instead of more of the same types as Melee. Don't get me wrong, the Melee characters were awesome. But I'm glad they're taking the opportunity to try new things.

Also, if any character is going to play like a freak, don't you think it would/should be Captain Olimar?

Looks like Olimar will have a lot of nuances that will take time to learn. I will probably try to use Olimar the most when I first get the game to try and master him. It looks like he will be fun to use.

I found some neat info at BrawlCentral..
Zelda can STILL transform into Sheik

Zeldas Final Smash is the Light Arrows (See fuzzy image after the break)

Ivysaurs move-set icludes BulletSeed, Vinewhip, Razorleaf, and Pokemon Switch

Squirtles Neutral attack is Watergun

Snake and Sonic confired as unlockable and not ready from the start

During WiFi rounds, the Wii systems involved can manually host mulitple players

If you "pass" a mini-game on the WarioWare stage you heal a bit

Items can pop out of sandbag when you beat him up

It's an AWFUL image, but you can see Zelda doing the Light Arrow.. very cool!
Isn't that the light arrow she (possible Ocarina *i think* spoiler)
deflected off of link's mirror shield in Ocarina of Time to take down Ganandorf in the final boss fight?

This is really great and has just made my friday (how big of a dork am I?): http://stars.ign.com/articles/844/844916p1.html
See I don't agree at all with that list. Sorta, but there's no way Peach SHOULDN'T be on that list. She was a destroyer in Melee. I'm not even saying this because she was my favorite character, but because she was a good, FUN character to play as. She DID have good moves, offense AND defense.

Grrr.

Huh. That's interesting. While I'm definitely glad that Shiek is back in the game, I still kinda wish that they had made Shiek a separate character and beefed up Zelda. Also, I find it very interesting that Snake and Sonic are unlockable. Lilboo, do you have a link to this Brawl Central? Thanks in advance if you can post it.

That's a pretty fun list, but I'm not quite sure what criteria the writer used to rank the characters. Writer's favorite, popularity, power? If it's the first or second of those reasons, that would probably be the reason why Peach wasn't on the list. Either way, I agree with the top choice: Link wasn't my character of choice in Melee, but he is awesome.
You just poked a huge hole in my logic. How is kirby gonna work Pikmin?
Perhaps he will inhale individual Pikmin, or gain the ability to pluck his own. Really the only two options.

Maybe Kirby can use his own Pikmin to beef up his regular smash attacks. That'd be the logical viewpoint (from what little logic there is to see from Kirby getting Pikmin, I mean).

I think this must be it. Kirby steals opponent's B specials. What B special would Pikmin have?

Olimar's Pikmin pluck is his B special, not his Down+B special. I think Kirby's a big reason that's so. Otherwise, Kirby would be stealing Olimar's Pikmin call. That would give Olimar a considerable advantage over Kirby (or, more accurately, it would give Kirby a serious disadvantage against Olimar). But without Olimar's Up+B or Side+B moves, Kirby can't throw those Pikmin. That means that Kirby just uses them to add power to his smashes. That sound logical to me, but it would require the devs to change many of Kirby's moves when he's wearing Olimar's costume. No other costume, to my knowledge, would do that. However, that does seem like the most fair way to do things. Kirby gets to improve his own smashes, but he doesn't get to throw those Pikmin at people, which is undoubtedly a major part of Olimar's arsenal.

Peach is lookin' to be the shizKNIGHT. Her down smash is nerfed, but nearly everything else about her has been improved. Candidate for top tier '08 confirmed.
I'm thinking there might be a one-second delay from when Snake fires and when it hits. If there was any longer of a delay, then it'd be plain awful. If it was faster than that, then it could be overpowered. Not that that would be a terrible thing, of course, but I'm just saying.
what if it's variable. as if you can control how long the delay is. That would make it much more useful.
The direct link's working fine for me.

This is actually pretty cool. I'm very curious about a few things, though. Firstly, if your pikmin are killed, can you pull more up?
First uproot a few Pikmin from the ground. You can have up to six Pikmin at one time. As long as there is ground beneath your feet, you can reach down and pull up a Pikmin, but be aware that certain Pikmin are more likely to appear in specific types of flooring.
I don't know what about that and the basic game mechanic would let you even think you could run out of Pikmin. It's like Princess and the turnip pull.
If you hit someone with a pikmin, do they latch onto your enemy, thus shortening the length of your safety chain?
Pikmin latch. The description on the Purple and White confirm that. You have a max of 6 Pikmin at any time. So if one is latched or lost (according to description of d-special pikmin sometimes need to be called therefore we can assume they can be lost wandering the stage) we can also assume the chain would be one less.
Oh yeah, lastly and most importantly: HOW DO YOU GET THOSE PIKMIN OFF YOU?!
don't over think it. Pikmin is probably like any other latch or a grab. if your highly damaged they might stay longer. If you wiggle the control stick they release sooner. it doesn't seem that complicated.
Is this the first time they showed all the characters moves? IIRC, usually they leave one out.
Do we not remember Link?Side, Standard, Up, Down AND the grab in one update on Aug 20th. If I recall correctly they started out showing all the specials and then as time moved on started leaving one out.
See I don't agree at all with that list. Sorta, but there's no way Peach SHOULDN'T be on that list. She was a destroyer in Melee.
She was a beast in melee. She'll probably still retain her beastly attributes in Brawl but the list is based on confrimed info and with peach we know nothing but her FS.
So Kirby will be able to pull Pikmin???
OH MAN!!!!!!
Kirby just became AWESOME!!

Because Pikmin have graves, and turnips do not.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I mean, if while trying to make the Pikmin chain, if one of the Pikmin hits someone on the way to the edge of the map, do you guys think they would latch on? That would suck.

Oh, I was just joking when I acted so irritated that Sakurai didn't mention it. I just wanted to point that out to everyone. Yes, I imagine you would just shake 'em off.
Because Pikmin have graves, and turnips do not.
Silly me? I was under the impression that Pikmin don’t have graves, you know.

Wobby Info.. Digg it
NO MORE DELAYS: According to someone to who asked a Nintendo rep there: Brawl is confirmed to be released on the 24th. (Japan)
sounds good to me.

Plus Shaymin looks cool
Silly me? I was under the impression that Pikmin don’t have graves, you know.
Ahhh, stupid me forgot that Sakurai said those were not graves. I thought he said those were the graves. Okay, forget what I said then.

Quotes from Brawl Central's Wobby update:

Item Selection is ON. Smash Balls can be turned off.
I thought that was already practically confirmed, but it's good to know for sure.

Dedede's Suction is beastly because of it's force and strength.
That's very interesting. I'm surprised that they would make Dedede better at sucking things than Kirby, the Smash veteran.

Lots of Invincibility frames when switching Pokemon.
I suspected as much. Switching Pokemon might make for a cheap Final Smash dodge.

Ike is being called a noob killer. His Side Special charged can KO Kirby and Meta Knight at 35%. He is being called "too powerful".
I think Marth was generally considered a near-top-tier character. If Ike is stronger...huh....
yeah i didn't mean cool to use. from what I recall Shaymin like Mew was/is? a promo only pokemon?
There were 3 different event-only pokemon this generation: Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus. So, who knows, maybe Shaymin might do something and they'll throw Arceus in to just show up and look pretty since it's the last one in the pokedex like Mew was in Gen1.
