Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2

Can't believe that someone hated or didn't understand American Psycho. It's a brilliant movie and the central performance was amazing.
That's why I asked how old he was because I didn't appreciate it when I first saw it. Around 24-25 I started seeing movies in a whole different way.

Bridesmaids - 3/5 - It's really hilarious but everything becomes quite predictable from the start and not to mention that a few of the "Bridesmaids" are pretty much throwaway characters and nonexistent to the movie. Still funny, though.
I swear, I'm like the only person that hated the movie. The only parts I thought were remotely funny involved the guy from The IT Crowd.

I really only enjoyed the plane scene and the wedding gown store scene. Oh, and Tim from Tim and Eric just smiling, haha. The rest was pretty run-of-the-mill Apatow-type stuff.

No check the thread of movies people love that you hate, this movie has the most posts. I actually liked "Bachelorette" way better.

I take that back, Orange Is The New Black is kind of...dumb. I can't watch this because I keep thinking why would she turn herself in after 10 YEARS and go through all that shit in prison like starving. She put herself in that position by voluntarily going to prison and that to me doesn't make sense.

welp it's been a while since I was over here

The internship

I liked it. It had technology issues like the idea that google has a help center call line struck me as strongly just wrong. But beyond that it was standard fare.

The Wolf of Wall Street

I mean it was a solid film and all .. but I don't get why everyone is getting on their knees for it. It never struck me as THAT great.

Oldboy

A) it lived up to the hype and B) I apparently misunderstood the spoiler I saw or read by one of those "F u spoilers" people. I didn't expect that the reveal of his crime would be as it was. Now it's off to watching the Spike Lee version.. if not today then tomorrow.

Need For Speed - 4/5 - Not Bad. Just saw Aaron Paul, Scott Mescudi, and Scott Waugh doing live Q&A in AMC Burbank 16.

Machete Kills 4/5 - Awesome cast and exactly what you need from a grindhouse film. Non stop action. I just wish they finish off with him in space.

Non-Stop Premiere - 3/5 - It wasn't bad. Everybody was like, oh yeah thats the hijacker but not until the end of the movie.

Goonies 3.8/5

Seen this too many times, nostalgia is decaying, this time it didn't hold up so well anymore. Still good though.

Pride of the Yankees:

An excellent biopic on Lou Gehrig.Though Gary Copper did a great Job as him.

Key Largo:

Though it was really good with Edward G. Robinson stealing the show as the gangster Johnny Rocco.

Finally watched Rocky completely, no commercial breaks. Great movie, though the part were Rocky tries to be an Uncle was awkward.

Captain Phillips - Just another good Tom Hanks movie.  Tension holds throughout the movie, but gets a little too long by the end.  4/5

Frozen - Walt Disney Animation Studios seems to have found its magic again after back to back to back hits with this, Wreck it Ralph and Tangled.  A little sad at the demise of the traditional Disney animation, but these films start to make up for it.  4/5

Old Boy (2013) - Not great if you've seen the original.  An OK remake that didn't really need to happen.  2.5/5

I didn't care for Old Boy (2013). Yes, I know it got horrible reviews but I was still hoping for something more.

And now that they are remaking Raid:Redemption that has me even more worried. No foreign film is safe from the greedy hands of Hollywood

The Wind Rises was excellent but slow moving.  I get the feeling this was an homage to a personal hero, even if they led a somewhat normal life.  The messages are clear and as always Ghibli breathes life into everything they draw, right down to capturing comedic relief as simple as a bowl haircut.  This is not the story I would have chosen for Miyazaki to end on, but it doesn't matter because either way we're losing one of the greats.

Taken - I know it's been out for awhile, but I'm a Liam Neeson fan and I finally got around to watching it. Neeson, as usual, put on a fantastic performance. It was a good movie and one I'll have no problem watching again. Don't know whether I'll see the 2nd one for not.

I finally saw Casino Royale. I was disappointed that Mads didn't get a bigger role and he was just a pawn. However, this is purely a film about how manly James Bond, and I liked it nonetheless, since it was action action action.. I've heard how M and Bond had something like a mother son relationship, so it must've started here?

Watched:

The Frightners - A fantastic monster movie that is my favorite work by Peter Jackson. The entire kookiness and personality of all the characters involved makes me love the heck out of it. The only complaint is that the romance in the film is a little forced considering the movie takes place over the span of 2-3 days?

Congo - The parts without the monkeys are awesome. Ernie Hudson is amazing and would have been a wonderul leading man if only given the opportunity. The monkey costumes were atrocious but given the lack of progress in technology, understandable. Delroy Lindo's reading of "Stop eating my sesame cake!" is one of my favorite in cinema history and it always makes me laugh. There are some clearly visable goofs (including a boulder bouncing off the shoulder of a cast member during a cave-in) but it was definitely a fun ride for the first 3/5 of the way there.

Troll Hunter - A fantasy oriented found footage film about a group of college students who discover a former soldier comissioned by the state to destroy all trolls who enter human grounds. Part of what I reallly liked about this was the gorgeous shots of the misty mountainside areas of Norway and the fantastic blending of CG and cinema. Still what should be interesting and unique ends up becoming groan inducing and irritating when characters behave stupidly, yelling, screaming, and talking too loudly as if they're not on a hunt for massive 30 foot creatures.

Timeline - Time travel film where a son and friends get roped in by a tech firm to go back in time and rescue his father from the middle ages. After arriving back in time, they are all immediately attacked by English knights and are split up. From there on characters get separated and everytime they reconvene, they get split up again. Rinse and repeat for two hours. The father character is such a tool. Even after he believes his son to be burned alive, his reaction is nonchalant at best. The father character was especially terrible. People are dead because of him and he doesn't even feign any responsibility. Even after he believes his son to be burned alive, his reaction is nonchalant at best. Gah!

Picked up the Avengers Assemble megaset and while the physical goods are quite awesome, the exclusive bonus disc was a huge disappointment. Intros by Coulson, deleted scenes, and CG animatics. Woo.

That was the point. ;)

Rocky is actually one of my all time favorite flicks. Top 5 in matter of fact. The boxing choreography is primitive at best, but that's the only weakness imo. That score though! It's simply amazing. The slow pieces really add to the drama.

The Man With The Iron Fists - 4.5/5 - The soundtrack matches every part of the movie spot on. I was entertained the whole entire movie. It was just one of those movies you go, sure I'll give it a go and you end up loving it. I really wish they were making more.

The LEGO Movie - 4.5/5 - Early favorite for movie of the year. Fantastic from beginning to end with some great voice acting from Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, and so many more. While it might be deemed a "kid's movie", I think it appeals more to an adult audience moreso than a kid audience. Still a great watch, though.

Insidious - 3/5 - To me, this is paranormal activity without much of the bullshit. I still hate the common cliches and tropes of the generic supernatural demonic possession genre of horror films. Some decent visuals and brief scares. I'll be getting to the sequel this weekend.

Drinking Buddies - 2/5 - Really getting tired of "indie comedy" films, because they're just not funny. Essentially, this film is about nothing. The cast is pretty decent and they do a great job, but there is only so much you can do with a lackluster script and poor direction.

Sergeant York:

Thought it was excellent. Gary Cooper gives one of best performances.

Soylent Green:

Despite a few corny moments I really enjoyed it. A good movie for Edward G. Robinson to go out on.
