This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Price adjustments on clearance are typically not allowed, but some have succeeded or have been able to do as return and rebuy.

Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction." Also, note that, typically, games will drop three times-- from 30%, 50%, then to the final drop of 75% off of the original price. Some people, however, have seen further drops up to 85%.

When games are marked down, the price change team typically find the game and scan it with their PDA/LRT to intiate the price change. However, in the case that they cannot find the game, they will either choose to not drop the price further or process the price change anyway, figuring that the game is somewhere in the store.

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city and state. For example:
Debbie Does Skywalker, Xbox 360, $4.98
Mesa, AZ Power Road at Superstition Springs

Also, a great help when you're posting deals you've found is to check this post and see if your item's DPCI number is already listed. DPCI stands for Department, Class, Item-- it's Target's version of a SKU. These are a nine digit number that can always be found on your receipt and also on the red clearance tags on the item itself. DPCI numbers are handy to have when you want to check the item's price-- just go over to your scanner and punch in the numbers, if your scanners have keypads. Also, you can give these numbers to team members so they can check the availability of the item easily with their PDA scanners. Please post any DPCI numbers that are not already in the OP-- thanks!

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Data ,Milk.com , or UPC Database and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store. Numbers in yellow are DPCI numbers, which can be used to check the prices of items on newer scanners.

Yeah, Target's clearance schedule is outrageously YMMV. I've had $60 games go on sale for $41.98, waited for the drop to $14.98, only to have the game go OOS so I try another location and find the game clearanced there, but still at $41.98... 6 weeks after the original drop at the original store. I'm fortunate to have three stores all within 10 miles of my house, so I don't miss out on too many deals, but it's interesting to note the crazy discrepancies between the locations.

To get back to the thread, I'm loving the points coupon. Brought Kungfu Panda and Battlefield Bad Company to the register with two points cards and two coupons. Clerk rang up both cards and both games ($7.48 each) but only one coupon would scan. She called a manager over, who squinted at the coupon, and I steeled myself for the beatdown. The manager smiled and said, "We'll just split these games and coupons into two transactions!" and I walked out with 3200 points and 2 games for $15+tax. Unbelievable. I'm going to hit one more store on the way home to see if there's any clearance games left, then I'll consider the deal nicely tapped out. Got 3 cards and 3 $7.48 games so I've already made out like a bandit.

Gotta say that between this, the $10 off two games coupon, and the $5 off blu-rays coupon, I've been consistently visiting Target stores 3-4 times a week for the last six weeks. At least in that respect, Target should consider these coupons a crazy, rip-roaring success.

I like handsomepete's top idea. I know Target prices are YMMV, but so is pretty much every posting on this thread. However, what the information does do is tell us what Target discounts and how far they willing to lower the price; then we cross our fingers and hope our Target does the same. No sense in waiting for something to go 75% off if no Target was willing to do so; better to buy it at 30 or 50 off.

Unfortunately, it seems you are unaware of how Target's clearance system works. Target basically keeps reducing the price, first 30% then 50% then 75% and very rarely 90%. The only reason games don't get to 75% is if they sell out. Posting what the low price is at a particular store in another area doesn't help you get that price in any way. I think the information is kind of interesting from a brag perspective and raises hopes and maybe encourages people to visit their local Target location, but it also leads to tons of postings by people complaining that the prices aren't the same at their local store. I think the name of the game, the format, and the DCPI is all we really need in the OP.

That was kind of the idea - the schedule for drops or how low they get at your individual store is very much YMMV, but the standard percentages they discount their clearance is standard across all stores (unless someone knows something I don't). Just give up on trying to track "the lowest price seen" and let everyone know the general rules of thumb for marking down clearance and the original prices so people can figure it out on their own.

Really, just looking for something that might make it easier to keep the OP updated as I'm sure it can be time consuming to keep up with all this.

Ninja edit: I also think it would help some people if the first sighting date was listed just so folks can adjust their expectations of finding something that was put on clearance 6 months ago. Just my 2c, hopefully I didn't start a wild fire.

Unfortunately, it seems you are unaware that I've been price watching clearance games at Target for at least 4 years. :) Brag perspective is useless to me; what is useful is understanding the "clearance market". If something hits 30% and there is still ample stock, then that means one can wait it out. However, if it hits 50% off and all of a sudden stock starts dwindling, then one knows that they need to buy now or risk not getting the item at all. To your point, of course game, format, and DCPI are crucial; they are the basics and should be included regardless.

There have been no reports of it hitting 7.50 yet... just plenty of reports at 12.50. So, best buy it now before it disappears (have not seen it in stock anywhere at this point.) ;)

How does posting the lowest price found somewhere else in the country help you understand the "clearance market"? You have no idea how many copies a store started with and demand varies by location. We all have stores in our area where stuff disappears immediately and other stores where it lingers or even reappears at the 75% mark. All we really need to know is the name of the game on sale, format and the DCPI. Everything else is completely irrelevant.

You guys are just lazy, subscribe to the thread and just read your emails and the last few posts each time you visit the thread. Once a game has been declared as a clearance item, the rest just happens naturally. Posting aggregate information in the OP just allows for predatory practices from other sites, the same argument happens in every other thread. There are only maybe 2/3 threads that have an op worth monitoring, and they are for keeping track of retailers such as GS

I think he views target clearance like futures trading, personally I'll just watch my crystal ball, and visit every target in a 20 mile radiance on Monday. If you show up on Tuesday, then it's just tough titty.

just my 2 cents....I really like the current format. I have found it be very accurate with my local market. If not the current week, then usually within a week or so, they hit the lowest prices reported if they haven't sold out. I like hearing lowest prices reported...

Bingo. Some games sell-out at 50% like hotcakes. Others sellout at 75%. Or the really good ones go at 30%. To me, I don't know which is which; e.g., surprising to me that RE5 for PC even hit $12.48 so many months ago in one part of the country, but I had to wait till now to get it. The key was that I knew I could wait it out because of this information.

For things like this I tend not to bother PMing mods. To continue the police analogy, I assume they'll get to these issues when they do their neighborhood walkthrough, as opposed to a 911 emergency call.

People talking about trading in the target thread isn't as dire as racist posts or spam.

I've been using goozex for a while now, using Target clearance as the fuel. That way I'm guaranteed to get what I want eventually, without really worrying about finding it at target. If you get a 15$ game at target and trade it for 600+ points on goozex, you quickly build up a nice surplus of points which will get you just about any game for approx 20$ (or less if you choose to wait). I find trading locally in the forums to be too much hit and miss, sprinkled with negotiations.

When I actually wait for a game I really want to hit 75%, I'm most often disappointed, so I by treating target as YMMV, I'm changed things around to now being happily surprised to find something I want, rather than frustrated when I don't.

Thanks, Shrike, but I posted DPCIs for months and a lot of them are out of the system by now. Maybe we can start a clean slate for 2010.

The coupon is in the electronics section on the second page.
It expires the 26th so act fast. Just went to a target to pick up star wars force unleashed (wanted to pick up assassins creed but they didn't have it). I just brought the microsoft points, game and coupon to the register and they didn't ask any questions. They just scanned it and I was out :bouncy:

I don't understand the appeal of new threads, but that's just me. If anything, new threads get more cluttered with people posting "Yeah, new thread smell!" and "Tagged to check on later."

Exeter Target has a copy of :psp: Monster Hunter Freedom United for $7.xx.

no luck for me, cashier actually read the coupon and wouldn't scan it. I never been a cashier but it seems to me like you would only read it after the register gave you some type of error. Anybody here a cashier know if they tell you to read every coupon you are given?
It expires the 26th so act fast.
Actually, it expires on the 24th.

It has been a VERY good coupon. :) That coupon + x-mas shopping has cleared out all the good stuff. :( It was a good run tho.

Lol, i tried going back to the same Targets i went to last night and tried to use another MS point coupon, along with buying Wolfenstein for 29.99, but apparently i ended up with the manager, who promptly turned me down and confiscated my coupon >_>. Had to run home to print out a few more, and about to check out some other targets in the area.

Off Topic-

Shrike has always been very quick to help me with any problem I have encountered. You NEED to contact Mods in order for them to help.

Back on Topic-

Picked up

Tiger Woods 10 (psp)- $10
MX vs. ATV (360)- $5
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (psp)- $7.50

Someone who's more active on the forums should take over as the new OP. All the other huge threads get daily updates while the Target thread (my favorite one) should be lucky to get an occasional one.

Oh, Cupertino Target has zilch. Got wiped out of the good stuff from last week.

I know that Cheapy closed down the old ECA cancellation thread because apparently really large threads put too much of a load on the servers. That one was at 203 pages when he locked it, and this one is now at 189. So by that logic, a new thread should be needed soon, if for no other reason than to keep the servers happy.

Now, I have heard that thread size does NOT have any impact, it's not like every time you refresh your browser all 200 pages are retrieved. (I'm a programmer, so I know what I'm talking about). I suspect he closed that thread for some other reason, probably the tone of the thread in general.

If the op is done with this thread, then another person should start a new thread, I personally hate new threads because I loose my prior subscription.

Eh, I seem to remember the OP noting on past Target threads that Cheapy had asked him to close the thread and open a new one because it was getting too large as well, though I can't find any of the specific posts right off (and don't care to search all that hard). I'm a programmer as well, but I don't claim to know the intricacies of the forum software that Cheapy is using to know one way or the other what it's doing. The problem probably doesn't lie in the page retrieval in and of itself, but rather in the database queries (maybe the database isn't optimized well, or the queries are poorly written and are doing things like a count on all entries in the thread each and every time a page is loaded?). Dunno.

Looking way back (to the 2007 and earlier threads), it appears that threads used to be shut down long before they got this big.

I think ppl get stuck on old/outdated information, and just keep repeating the same behavior. I've also noticed some ppl just seem to like the word 'NEW', it's like a switch is flipped that says this information is now more valuable than the exact same information in the old thread.

I upped my grand total to 8000 points by scoring a second :360: Assassin's Creed and my much-desired copy of Wolfenstein :360: for $14.99. If you're getting hit by the cashier, I recommend handing over the game and the card, and then when the cashier is about to ring out, say "OH! I've got a coupon" and put it right on the scanning glass. That's what I did today, and the cashier didn't even look at the coupon.

I'm pretty sure we already covered this in the thread which was closed. You are clearly advocating fraud here and that is not an acceptable topic for discussion. A deal or even a "glitch" doesn't require sleight of hand or other confidence game techniques to work.

If Friend of Sonic is MIA and no one else is willing to throw their hats in the ring I'd be willing to maintain the new thread if it's the moderators-that-be think it's necessary. It's a good distraction at work and I could just do updates in the morning when I'm updating the amazon trade-in thread.

Currently in Southern California on a Disneyland trip. Had time to visit the surrounding Targets. Gathered the following:

:psp: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite $7.48
:ps3: Sonic Unleashed $9.98
:360: Rockband 2 $12.48

Also saw :360: Bionic Commando, Resident Evil 5 for PC and Godfather 2 for :360:, and Buzz Quiz :ps3: for $29.98, $12.48, $14.98 and $29.98 respectively. These were at the Cypress, Seal Beach and the Disneyland location Targets.

Haven't had the time to use the coupons that everyone else used but would've been nice.

Oh boy, another backseat moderator. Awesome! As for deals not requiring elbow grease, I disagree. Coupons are always, always, ALWAYS YMMV. Doesn't matter if they're manufacturer's grocery coupons or store branded printouts for housewares and electronics, I have them both accepted without comment and denied outright pretty much every day.

ALSO: second handsomepete's nomination. Let there be newthread!

She had to manually enter the coupon, but it was hardware so it should have qualified.

If it doesn't work with the HDMI cable, then point out that the cable IS hardware, and the coupon simply says hardware, not consoles.

I was so happy when they was a thread for the coupons so that I could peacefully read the clearance thread for discussion of clearances and not have to wade through all this bitching, bickering and bragging.

And, yes, I see the irony of my bitching.

Don't think anyone wants to replace him unless I'm missing something. I think he does a stellar job.

Too much side conversation. I went to 5 Targets this week and they were all pretty much cleared out - nothing left save one or two NBA '09s.
