(Apologies in advance if this is threaded elsewhere; a couple searches turned up nothing.)

I had no idea that Target accepted trade-ins of electronics, games included, before today, but I swung by my local Target and saw an ad in the story (that I neglected to snap a pic of) and then looked it up online.

Lo and behold, there's a Target trade-in program. The interface is clunky, and not gonna yield TIVs all that easily, but it appears that Target accepts 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, Xbox, PS2, PS, DS, Vita, and PSP games -- because the program's powered by NextWorth (much more searchable interface, FYI), which buys the games.

You're not going to get a lot for them, especially the older games (I nosed around a little), but this might well be a sign that Target actually wants to compete in the secondary market. And, if this is important, you apparently are getting cash, not credit, for the games.

Just had a decent trade in today, walked out with $155 after 8 ps1 games XD. I had traded in my old 360 that gamestop wouldn't take for $47 at a local game store. Used that credit to buy as many of the high value games I could. Ended up with $1 left over and the credit above. NFL Blitz and NFL Blitz 2000, Nascar Legacy, NBA Shootout 97, Need for Speed II, Need For Speed: V-Rally, Grand Slam '97. Honerable mention at $17: PGA Tour 97 (PlayStation).
I didn't have time to look for all of these at my local retro game store, but I will be back soon, these trade ins are fantastic!

 
It's really hard to find the high value games because you have to click each individual item and the high value games are so random.

Like ps2- smack down shut your mouth gets $19.28...
 
Damn...any chance we can get a comprehensive list of the games with high value trades compiled by system in the OP? I think I'm going to raid some local game stores for as many of these old nigh-worthless PS1/PS2/Xbox/GameCube sports games etc. I can find.

I doubt it, but has anyone seen Kindle cards at Target lately?  I'd love to get some to get some camera stuff off Amazon.

Target declared war on Amazon by disassociating their website from Amazon & by removing all AZ gift cards & Kindles from stores about 2 years ago.

I remembered that, but I found the online product number for the $50 ones via google, and used the lookup tool from the clearance thread and it shows a few Targets as carrying the $50 ones still. Strange, I know.

 
So has anyone had a bad experience yet? Like the employees had no idea they had a trade in program? This all seems to good to be true.

I remember with the "trade any game, get a $20 off $30" coupon, one of the local Target's cell phone rep was never around. Supposedly, they come in at 1 pm around here. Another Target was fine, but I wouldn't expect many of the phone reps to be as smooth with trade-ins as a good, experienced Gamestop rep.

Holy crap, I have some of these $20 titles.  I think I know where I'm going after work.  This is as good as that radio shack trade-in a while back!!

 
*sigh* Of all the times for my entire PS1 collection to be composed of JRPGs that either don't have much of a TIV or are too important to me to trade in... :wall:

Assuming this is still active over the weekend, I'll try to stop by a local retro game store for the big-value ones then go to Target the following day.

 
I was checking the trade in site as recently as this morning and Gran Turismo 2 was trading in for $17.  Now it is saying for it and several others, "this item has no cash value".  Is that just for the online trade in or will Target now say that too?

 
Had a friend request a trade-in through the Nextworth website using my referral link and I received this message:

Is it me or are a lot of the games suddendly are "Sorry this item has no cash value"? I'm really hoping that this is an error...

Just noticed this too. Earlier I checked NHL Faceoff 97 in it was about $17 or so now it says no cash value.

 
I would certianly hold off, it looks like they adjusted their vlaues, many of the games listed currently have no values, others have had their values deflated significantly, i hope no onr jumped and snatched up 100 old sports games they can no longer trade in.

 
Well, as I was obtaining more games to flip to the site, I put in my Nextworth order to lock in the value. It's a very good thing I did too! @___@

 
I'm positive I figured out how this whole super trade-value for old PS1 games started: BAD PROGRAMMERS! Search for Madden 97 on Amazon. "$89.99, only 1 left in stock". Nextworth was giving $20 for it. Search for Lucky Luke, $75.00 new on Amazon. They gave $19 trade-in for it. Re-Loaded is $99.99 for one copy on amazon, nextworth was giving $20. Etc Etc. Every garbage $20 game on nextworth had some idiot collector trying to sell his one copy on amazon for a ton of money. So that means that some lazy programmer at nextworth said "How do I figure out legit trade values for these games? OH I know! I'll just have my macro/program/whatever scrape amazon for their price. That'll save me a bunch of work, and I'm a genius!". Except that they ended up assigning value to old sports games that wouldn't even trade for .25 cents at your local game store.

I know that from adding up what I read here, plus my own personal adventures, that they lost thousands on these games. I doubt anyone's getting fired over this, but if they knew WHY it happened (hiring the community college dropout nephew of the boss, who does his job by googling the code of other, actually smart people, to do his job)(At least, thats how I imagine this scenario), I wouldn't be surprised if some heads were rolling at corporate. LOL :p

Do you think they will honor the price quoted after locking in the trade-in value? The site says the price is good for 21 days.

Amazon actually does pay you $0.20 ($0.25 complete) credit for old sports games no one wants... just saying =P

They would certainly have to if they value their Better Business Bureau icon they have displayed on their front page. Imagine if every gamer goes nerd rage reporting them to BBB for not honoring trade ins.

This sucks.  Saw this post a few days ago and figured it was YMMV and it was not worth the hassel.  Since the thread is still up, I figured I'd go for it and spent like an hour last night going through games to sell, only to find that the values have tanked. 

 
The only thing I'd worry about at this point for people who locked in games that lost their value, is dishonest employees/managers who will now say "honor only what you have to, be SUPER picky, and reject as much as you can for "too damaged"". I'm not saying that they'll do that, but if they did it'd be kinda hard to prove it (since you aren't there as they do it). HOPEFULLY it won't happen, but this is the exact reason I took my stuff in locally to target. A gift card today is better than +%10 bonus to a box of rejected games later.

 
I will take a photo of every single thing I ship out to them. Let's see how they argue with me and my $2000 disc resurfacer.

 
Wow, I'm glad I didn't buy a bunch of stuff on Amazon now to trade in for this promo. I was only able to lock in a trade for NHL FaceOff '97 and buy a complete copy from eBay for $5.00 w/ free shipping last night, so hopefully I can send that in.

Thanks for the list but beware some of the JRPG's & Mega Man X you would get more selling it direct on AZ/EBay as those games can be really rare.

But everything else, DUMP!

Even worse, it doesn't matter anymore since 95% of that list is dead. The only ones still giving high tradein value are the games that would actually sell for $50+ on ebay anyway.

 
Nooooo, I had about $400 in trades!! Well, atleast I got $150 yesterday for 13 ps1 games. But today woulda been epic! Why couldn't they have squashed it tomorrow!! Grrrr
 
Wow, glad I jumped on this when I did before it tanked. I ended up trading is ~30 junk games that were taking up space for $105 in Target credit with one of those gems being a complete copy of Madden '97 for $20. Ended up getting a Wii U Pro controller with some of the credit.

He lied to you, most likely. I traded in at target twice yesterday. The thing is, it takes them forever to look up each game individually, and then for every game that you trade, a seperate paper prints out, and its a lot of work, etc etc. He just didn't want to, you know, do the job he's paid to do. They prefer to stand around while texting on their cell phones and not actually helping customers.
