those new dbzs are hard to watch . this was the first time id ever heard the japanese voices and they are pretty bad especially goku since he sounds like a chick. aside from that its your basic dbz.reminds you of how much anime has changed since dbz ruled the world.

Goku's voice actor is a woman in the japanese version. Please use caps.

why does it matter if i use caps or not.......
Really? I felt the art style was pretty much identical to the old stuff, it seemed like that was their goal

Hmm, I think I mean production value wise. This special episode looks much cleaner and consistent than many of the DBZ episodes. I was always perplexed as a kid when watching DBZ. One episode would look awesome. Then the next episode would look like ass.
Ep looked pretty smooth , I don't know if I would have preferred DBZ's last hurray to be some super detailed jaw dropping experience or not. They did a good job capturing the old style at any rate.

Entirely new 2008 special, story was also pretty funny. I liked the episode a lot. Series would probably work in OVA form a lot better now

They definitely should not make DBZ without Toriyama... Dragonball could work, I think -- not DBZ though. The special felt exactly like those awful Goku-and-Piccolo-learn-to-drive filler episodes.

And re: the voices, you have no taste, sir. The Japanese VAs are much, much better cast than all the raspy Funimation folks. I'm no dub-hater but Funi's cast is really really bad... one of the worst. I guess if that's what you're used to it may be weird to go to the (superior) Japanese cast, but to call the Japanese cast bad... it's not even subjective, it's just a false statement.

I just read this: http://www.dattebayo.com/pr/100

Interesting that Viz never asked DB to stop, but this is the most interesting part:

When I spoke at Otakon this past summer, I talked about the steps that anime companies needed to take to compete with fansubs. I said how it would have to be available just as fast, and free.

And though I don't dare take credit for it, that's now happening. Viz, the US licensor of Naruto, will be offering streaming viewing of Naruto for free a week after it airs in Japan.

For some small fee, you can pay to see it the same day it airs in Japan over at Crunchyroll starting in January.

I thought Toriyama did the story for the special?

You're right, wtf, why'd it suck so much...

I guess he hasn't done anything decent in like 15 - 20 years, can't expect too much from the guy
anyone else think the naruto manga was kind of all over the place this week?
It finally confirmed that the village that hated Naruto's guts all this time now respected him enough to not sell him out even to save themselves , I liked the issue a lot.

I think it all depends on the mindset you have going in, it was like a DragonBall story that just happened to take place with the cast of DragonBall Z. It was a light hearted romp not out to prove anything or have a grand fight to the finish, was just a silly outing with Goku and Vegeta acting the most casual they ever have with each other.

It seemed like it a bit, they keep flying between 3-4 different spots.

Kakashi :(, I didn't think they'd kill him off, btw, did they ever explain what happened to Rin(cause of death)?

I feel bad because I haven't watched bleach or read a chapter for awhile so I'm waaaayyy behind, so I'm curious, does it get better after episode 160?

You didn't even reach the final grimjaw fight?! At least wrap it up and watch through 167 . Manga seems to be standing still, a lot of grunt fighting lately with the major players sitting on their ass or just not shown.

You're not way behind in bleach. Your only about 13 episodes behind .Watch episodes 160-167 and 190-196 .Skip 168 -189 it's filler(and not a good one at that) .If you skip the bad filler than it gets a little better.

bleach 196 was very entertaining. i hope they keep it up and stop filling episodes with Ishida, Renji and those two retards.. anytime those four pop up on screen i have to skip ahead

I need anime recommendations (non-anime suggestions welcome, but that's not what this thread is really about) -- in about a week I'm leaving for a two-week holiday trip in Louisiana. It's dreadfully boring there, two weeks is far too long, I'll need something to do. I decided to load up my 160gb laptop hard drive and watch the hell out of some anime/movies/tv series.

Suggestions? I've never seen Bleach so I decided to give that a shot. That's really all I have so far. I was also thinking Code Geass R2.

this is just a small sample of the stuff out there to see alot of times you have to just rad a description and jump and and take a chance. theres alot of straming sites you can go to to see anime before dling it but some of the ones ive mentioned are hard to find since theyre liscensed and if thyre in mkv format you will need to downlod the codec pack for it.

one non-anime suggestion is Lost, that show is great.

I'm a sad panda. Although I've read JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in another language, the English editions have been delayed. Dang Viz, and maybe Shueisha, what's taking so long for part 3 to be finished?

I'd like to recommend The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Cromartie High School (along with most of Lokizz list).
Non-Anime atm I'm watching King of the Hill (I'm through Season 5 right now), The Office (US, but UK is really really good), and Dexter (I recommend Season 1 more than 2 or 3 (which is mid-season); but hopefully you would start with 1 anyway).
in case you didn't notice, he did ask for non-anime recommendations. ;)
Yeah, but Lost stinks.

Currently downloading:

Bleach (1 - 196)
Paprika (Movie)
Kiba (1 - 51)
Code Geass R2 (1 - 26)
Welcome to the NHK (1 - 25)
Big O (1 - 26)

Total of ~325 episodes... 20 minutes per episode I've got about 110 hours worth. I think I'm set.

Oops, Teh. My bad. I'm not too keen on Lost, but I thought you were just randomly putting it out there. The failure is mine. ;_;

Good gods, sir. All of Bleach? I recommend you save NHK for last. It will be more relevant.

I usually like filler... depending on the series. It needs to be a light hearted series for filler to be good.

One Piece filler is great, Naruto filler is not.
Currently downloading:paprika (Movie)
Might I recommend Paranoia Agent? A very good, weird anime. From what I know Paprika was sort of a part of Paranoia Agent, but it became too much so Satoshi Kon made it into a full movie.

You know, I bought the first two DVDs of Paranoia Agent like a year ago and still haven't open them. Maybe I'll give those first few episodes a shot to see if I should DL the rest.

Please don't take this post the wrong way...

I'm not trying to be a smart alec, but it is hard to read posts when someone isn't at least trying to type properly. I'm not saying I'm perfect, I make mistakes like anyone else, but it takes minimal effort to hit the shift key at the start of a sentence.

can anyone give me a suggestion on what to watch next? Here's what I have seen so far.

Loved- Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell: 1st movie and SAC 1&2, Yukikaze, Rurouni Kenshin OVA 1, Akira, Wolf's Rain

Liked- Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Death Note, Various Gundam series

Hated- Bleach, Rurouni Kenshin series, anything cutesy

Seems like you love 'thinker' anime (GITS). You might like Paranoia Agent, Ergo Proxy, and Paprika. You also seem to like noir-ish anime (Bebop, Champloo) so you might like Darker than Black and Michiko e Hatchin.

I think you might also like:
Code Geass (Seasons 1 & 2)
Black Lagoon
Moonlight Mile
Melancoly of Haruhi Suzumiya

Based on your list you would probably enjoy Monster. It's pretty easy to find online. It has a very dark and serious tone, and it's quite dfferent from most other animes I've seen.

wait is he just downloading Code Geass R2 without watching the first season?

that doesn't seem like a good idea...

has anyone else here finished kiba? i still can't say enough about what a shockingly well-written piece of shonen that is. no matter how stupid i thought the setup was my friends and i simply couldn't stop watching.

i will also toss in a recommendation for Monster, but I might recommend the manga over the anime so you get through it much faster.

i read about half the manga then watched all of the anime and at times i sort of wished i could just get through certain parts quicker.

Kiba was pretty good though I was annoyed by the ending.
Why was there no closure? Him showing up in what seems to be 'our' modern world is kind of a cliffhanger ending suggesting there would be more only to find out that was the last episode. That particularly frustrated me since I thought the series would continue.
It's very much the same thought I had about D. Grayman.

Naruto Manga 427
God will they just say whether Kakashi bit it or what?! Tsunade either recognized Pein from the past or just realized it was Jiraiya's killer, either way I hope she does something interesting. I'm liking that Naruto is getting stronger but hating he is doing it with clones so much, keep thinking well if you could do that with a clone why didn't you just have it sit with a dozen books on jutsu and memorize them all?

Naruto
I'm still hoping Kakashi isn't dead, its's too early for him to die, especially since Tsunade needs to die in order for Naruto to become Hokage. Naruto is too dumb without a teacher. And since the frog can't fuse on him why doesn't he just make a bunshin, have it stand there and collect the nature chakra(since he loves using clones.)

If dattebayo really stops subbing Naruto they'll probably die.

I believe he may end up doing that, since it seems he figured some way around it when he said "Oh!"
I hope Kakashi isn't dead either, it just doesn't seem right if he kicks the bucket :/

I am curious as to how the Pain/Tsunade standoff will turnout :D

naruto
Also hoping Kakashi isn't dead he is my favorite character. I don't think that Tsunade needs to die for Naruto to become Hokage, I think there can be two at once. Didn't the 4th die before the 3rd (I thought Sarutobi was the third and Naruto's dad was the 4th but I could be wrong) Also, why the hell did they introduce Sai, he has not done jack shit.

Naruto
It is being set up big time for coup to happen, my guess is Tsunade is going to bite it, Dozuo takes over and the final story arc of the series will be one more timeskip and Naruto fighting to get the title of Hokage away from a war monger tyrant. To be fair about Sai, he Sakura, Kakashi and the majority of Konoha have done jack and shit for a long long time. Manga went Sasuke crazy for a bit with him getting 3 super high profile fights and everyone else sitting around eating Ramen

Ya but Sai has never done anything, I was hoping he would have one fight where he would go all out and we could see what he can do, but nothing. Plus his outfit has a bare midriff so he sucks.

Well he did do a pretty gay speech about bonds so that counts for something right? Seriously though as part of Root I expect him to play a role in the upcoming events.

It would be nice to see Tsunade at full power since we've already seen the other two sennin go all out. Her last fight she was a medical ninja afraid of blood or something ridiculous like that.

I don't see it happening
She blew a lot of chakra by having those slugs go over healing people, she is vulnerable and facing a guy who killed Jiraiya and swatted away Kakashi like a fly.
