You can't simply say "because I saw him in Dayton" and expect that it somehow makes you right.
If you want to compare him to Benoit, then the man isn't allowed to have off nights. Not even in Dayton.
Moreover, his style isn't even Benoit's. If you said Albright, I'd agree; Richards is too "kicky" and "floaty" to have a style similar to Benoit.
I'm not saying Richards is bad, but just that comparing him to Benoit is absurd. There are some decent wrestlers in ROH, but let's not overrate someone just because they're part of a lesser-known organization (and thus more "worthy" by some obscure algorithm).
I spent too many years hanging around pretentious punk-rock assholes who would flippantly disregard "mainstream" punk (which was a moving target, being as well-known as Green Day, or any "major label" Epi-Fat/Lookout band) in favor of overhyping bands nobody else knew. There's great music on both sides, to be sure, but I've been around cultures that overvalue unknown talent and blithely pan "mainstream" guys.
So this isn't anything I'm unfamiliar with. Richards may be a solid hand, but that doesn't mean he's worth going out of your way to see. He's pretty
in' vanilla, all things said: not a bad wrestler, but not someone who is memorable unless you're wholly invested in the product (as you are).
