The Black Cena Wrestling Thread

You know what....us internet fans hollered for a damn youth movement

And Vince finally gave us one. With Miz, Lobster head, Nexus, Kofi, Drew, Cody & Ted, Morrison, Evan Bourne....a slew of young guys who can hold their own (Well, a lot of Nexus needs work)

...And do I see a face Miz?

*I guess Evan Bourne was in the back taking a shit when the music hit. Dude was mad late and throwing up his arm bands and adjusting his pants...

A lot of that came due to the top stars being injured/retiring/etc. but eh, gift horses and all.

I say Vince only started giving the youth movement a chance because all of his vets keep getting injuries left and right. Not that I'm complaining though. Definitely good to see.

I really hope they let Miz hold onto that briefcase for about...5 months. Just play into the whole anytime thing, have him come out and tease a few cash-ins. I know, ultimately, he will probably be the first guy to lose a cash-in but it's still good to see him have his shot.

Edit: Looks like Purple Flames beat me to it, but still valid.

On another note...what's the purpose of the US title right now??? Once again it's on Miz...who isn't even remotely in the picture of defending it.

I think he used his salary to just outright buy it and let R-truth borrow it on TV for a few weeks! He's going to just wear it again like he's done all year just for a great accessory!

Might as well let Evan Bourne get that title and defend it against Nexus members and such...

Now that...was....AWESOME....

Great booking tonight. That had me for a second

Yeah. I'm going to have give them credit for tonight. I expect they will screw it up somehow. Definitely had me going for a little bit.

That was a great tease just now. It was filled with tension and anticipation. I'm guessing Miz'll drop the belt to R-Truth so they can make him seem more legitimate for being in line for a world title run.

Three matches in 90 minutes (if you count a 60 second shitshow b/w Maryse and Eve as a full match, and if you count a match b/w Seamus and Evan Bourne where *ALL* the focus was on Miz as a match, and if you count a three-way with only one probable winner as a match) and y'all are bending over backwards to praise WWE?

They're not doing a bad job of following up on the PPV and preparing for Summerslam, it appears, but if this is as good as Raw gets such that y'all are going to gush over it uncontrollably like your name was jaythegamefan, then you've lowered your collective expectations pretty significantly.

That triple threat was a really good match, regardless of only being one possible winner. The rest of RAW has been damn good as well.
That triple threat was a really good match, regardless of only being one possible winner.
No.

EDIT: It wasn't "really good," but I'm not saying it was bad. It was decent for a "tee-vee" match, but if that's as good as it gets, I stand by my statements. Y'all are gushing over a dramatic program with little to no in-ring content. You're validating Vince Russo's philosophy.

We got Nexus *so far* looking strong enough to have two vets bickering over who they would do dirty work for, and crushing both of them.

Sheamus looking more like a coward heel champ. Miz getting huge pops...only to lose it the moment R-truth music hit, Evan Bourne showing once again why he's going to be the next Rey Jr, and 4 midcarders getting TV time.

Plus, Morrison and Ted Jr getting positive reactions

And while it probably won't happen, there's a hint of a heel turn that got the audience moved.

While there hasn't been much matches...the storylines are firmly in place to at least make it a SS that you might go to the bar to watch instead of stealing it online. Or at least it's like that in my case...

If my standards are higher than a grown adult who threw down the "flat as a board and easy to nail" line, I'll sleep easy tonight.

 Quite the ringing endorsement, inn't it? The stories they've told tonight have indeed been presented well. I'm not arguing that. Yet, again, I'd make the point that you're validating Vince Russo's philosophy - wrestling matches don't matter. Don't mistake me for saying his booking actually meets his philosophy, as he's a fucking abysmal storyteller. But the point is you're interested in a product without really getting much of the heart of the product. If you like it, great. You're enjoying your Monday night more than I am; but I'm checking out Raw for the first time in awhile, and I agree with you on the storylines (and I'll even give them credit for masterfully disguising their PG programming). But for me, the matches have to be there, and they have to make sense. There's been nothing entertaining about the matches tonight.

That'll screw up your back pretty quick. Looks like he barely had Henry up there.

I'll agree that the matches may not have been great but after months of stale shit on Raw, this is a very welcome change. Get rid of the email GM and things would be even better.

You're expecting a show full of 5 star matches a night after a ppv... yes, your standards are too high.

Of course tonight's show is going to be mostly story driven, they have to explain what happened at last night's ppv, and set up fueds for Summerslam.

I don't know how old you are, but since I've been watching wrestling in the early 90's its always been about storylines. I can't think of the last time where Raw just had a mainly all wrestling show...
Edge looks like he's been using Raven as his gym partner.

Maybe I haven't been keeping up w/ WWE much at all, but I honest-to-goodness didn't know Edge was a Raw dude to begin with. He doesn't strike me as important or relevant at all, much unlike he was 2-3 years ago. Which is odd given the lack of top-tier talent right now.
The face turn was going okay, but not great, and then they reverted him back to the same heel character he was for the past 6 years. There's only so many times he can steal the championship. He also said in an interview that he probably only has 2 years left in him, which I can't imagine went over well.
Turn heel already! Your act is staler than 6 year old white bread with mold and spores on it.
The only problem is, if Cena "joins" them they would just do a fake heel turn for him. Two months of him just playing a part and then turning against them at a major moment.

Not that it matters at this point from the looks of this. I think I've lost interest in this whole thing.

....Bret Hart?

I was thinking it would be HHH. But Hart? I guess it's going to be 6 on 7....

*how much longer is ezekial jackson out???

**Great Khali????

Khali and Bret killed this new development. The only way they could have messed that up any further is if two spots were taken up by Mae Young and Hornswaggle.
Damnit, thought Danielson was gonna be the 7th. Typical WWE
That didn't cross my mind as I was waiting for the last member, but it would've definitely been awesome.

I figured it was going to be HHH. A part of me was hoping it would be Michaels, but I knew it was highly unlikely.

I was expecting HHH. It's not really 6 on 7 though, more like 6 on 2 1/2. Barrett and gabriel are the only 2 who can do anything worthwhile.

While it made sense, the Hart reveal was disappointing. This may the first team ever where Khali isn't the least mobile.

I admit, I would've marked hardcore if HHH's music hit, and I'm sick of the guy.

Yeah, at this revelation I've pretty much just lost interest in this particular story. I mean, Khali, seriously? What the hell not a fan of R-Truth's either. I was hoping Danielson was the last guy but knew that wasn't happening. My main thought was Triple H, but just didn't seem likely because he wouldn't be able to wrestle. Neither can Bret so I guess Triple H wouldn't have been that far off either. Triple H's character is just blah anymore, but it still would've been awesome to hear that music hit.

Don't mistake what I'm saying. The matches are periphery to the product; they're of little importance or consequence. It's not that there are so few - two of them went over ten minutes. That's movement in a positive direction. But the three-way was uninteresting because you had Edge, who is as flat as week-old-soda right now, and Jericho, who is halfway out the door. The winner was never in doubt; that shouldn't happen in a wrestling match of "consequence" (i.e., with a PPV title match on the line). Evan Bourne vs. Seamus could have been a good way of showcasing Bourne (and it kinda was), but Miz was the focal point, and Bourne was lost in the shuffle.

The other two matches - Maryse/Eve and the Santino tag match - those were bathroom breaks totalling 4 minutes of a 90+ minute program excluding commercials.

Storyline-wise, the show was a massive hit, and Bret Hart's return was well hidden (I think, it certainly surprised me). But I don't think that automatically makes the show so praiseworthy. Part of me thinks that you all hold WWE to a different standard compared w/ TNA.

EDIT: Oddly enough, I can see the reason for putting Khali and R-Truth in the group. They're not busy, and they're already established that a lot of the other guys on Raw will be in other programs leading into Summerslam. Evan Bourne instead of Truth might have been nice, though, I suppose.

Bryan Danielson as the big reveal? Please. This is WWE. When dude comes back (and he will), there won't be shit for a big reveal. He'll just show up one day and wrestle Chavo on Smackdown.

Or Bourne instead of Morrison since they seem to be pushing towards Dibiase/Maryse vs. Morrison and probably Melina when she comes back. They really need to get the US title away from the Miz - he no longer needs a belt.

This was a very good show overall. It was strange to see Orton-Edge-Jericho open the show, but it did set up stuff later on (like Orton confronting Sheamus backstage), so it made sense after the fact. I didn't like the Miz MITB cash-in tease at first, but after the show, it made sense to put Truth in the main event mix to prepare for the main event angle of the night. The Sheamus-Bourne match that preceded the Miz deal was good, although I don't think it's possible for Bourne to have a bad match with Sheamus. Barrett-Henry was short, and Barrett managing to hit something resembling his finisher on Henry despite Henry being so massive was incredible. It didn't look good, but he still did the best job he could on it, and the announcers put it over as a massive feat of strength.

The show-long deal with Cena joining the Nexus was built up well, and while some members of Cena's group stick out like sore thumbs (hello Morrison, Truth, and KHALI!), Bret coming out was a huge, and pleasant surprise. I was hoping it would be Danielson to get revenge on the Nexus for turning their backs on him, but I'll gladly settle for Bret. I bet the Hart Dynasty will too - now they can possibly be over again.

Cole - THE VIPER IS COILED IN POSSIBLY THE RKO POSITION!
Cole - THIS IS WHEN ORTON IS DANGEROUS! (Orton hits a powerslam)
Cole - ORTON HAS NO HOPE! (seconds later, Edge saves) EDGE WAS THE ONLY HOPE HE HAD!
Edge - JERICHO, THIS HAS GONE ON BETWEEN US FOR TOO LONG! This is gone on for 11 years now! HOW MANY TITLES HAVE WE COST EACH OTHER? HOW MANY INJURIES HAVE WE INFLICTED, HOW MANY YEARS OF OUR CAREERS HAVE WE TAKEN OFF EACH OTHER!? IT HAS TO END HERE, TONIGHT!
Jericho - GIVE ME THE MICROPHONE! You want this to end tonight, Edge? FINALLY, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 11 YEARS, WE AGREE ON SOMETHING BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO END TONIGHT. For you. I don’t know if you’re too stupid to realize it, but last week, Wade Barrett admitted that I’m the reason Nexus has achieved the success it’s achieved. He admitted that I told him to do all the things he’d been doing and I think if I snapped my fingers, they’d come out here. We won’t just take years off your career, we’ll end it! DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M SAYING TO YOU RIGHT NOW?!
Edge - NO, BECAUSE I DON’T THINK THAT NEXUS AGREES WITH THAT. IF THEY KNEW WHAT I COULD BRING TO THE TABLE, THEY’D LISTEN. ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS TO TAKE OUT A GUY CLAIMING THEIR SUCCESS FOR HIS OWN.
Barrett - Edge. Jericho. Please don’t argue amongst yourselves, because the fact is you’re both veterans and to be honest with you, Nexus would be lucky to call either an ally. You’ve had successful, hall of fame careers. But Edge, Jericho is right. Nexus wouldn’t just take years off your career - we’d end it. (they beat Edge up)
Jericho - GET HIM! GET HIM! TAKE HIM DOWN!
Cole - SPEAR! EDGE’S OWN MOVE BY SHEFFIELD!
Jericho - YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS!?
Barrett - Chris, Edge was also right. Because we’d like to shut up the guy claiming to be behind Nexus’s success.
Barrett - WHAT DID YOU TEACH ME!? NOTHING!
Barrett - YOU’RE MY PRO!? YOU DIDN’T TEACH ME A THING!
Mathews - Mr. Barrett, there’s no doubt that you have the most powerful group in the history of WWE. Every superstar and person from the timekeeper on quake in their boots when you’re near.
Barrett - Josh, are you quaking in your boots? I ASKED YOU A BLOODY QUESTION. ARE YOU QUAKING IN YOUR BOOTS?!
Mathews - Yeah…
Barrett. You mentioned the history of WWE. Well, I’m about to write a new chapter in WWE history, and it doesn’t end well for the world’s strongest man.
Sheamus - Yeah fella, I just came here with a proposal that I think you’ll want to hear.
Barrett - Step into my office.
Sheamus - I’d rather wait out here.
Barrett - Suit yourself.
Cena - Nexus says that you’re either Nexus or you’re against us. Well right now, I’m saying if ya can’t beat ‘em…
Cole - WE’RE BACK WITH THE SMART, SEXY, AND POWERFUL WWE DIVAS!
Ted - I’m 27 and a self-made millionaire. Well, it was all given to me, but who cares?
Cole - Maryse is an upgrade from Virgil.
Ted - You got that right, Cole. Maryse is NOT a gold digger.
Ted - King, you get your crown at Kroger.
Ted - Maryse isn’t a gold digger - that’s just a rumor started by guys like John Morrison and these…WWE Universe.
Cole - TELL US WHAT YOU THINK OF THE NEXUS ON FACEBOOK!
Sheamus - Let the record show that I have beaten Cena in a tables match, a fatal four way, and now a steel cage! When I beat Cena for the first time, you all called it a fluke. The second time was luck. But the third time? THAT’S DOMINANCE! What now for Cena? Well, he’s in my past and he won’t be getting a shot against me any time soon. He shoulda done what I did earlier. I found Barrett, I walked up to him, looked him in the eyes, and said, nay, DEMANDED, a truce. I explained to him that a year ago, no one had heard of Sheamus or the Nexus, but like it or not, we are both now the two most powerful entities in the entire dubya dubya ee. We don’t have to like each other - I stay out of their business and they stay out of mine. The truce is in effect, but what’s good news for me is bad for Orton. Them interfering is the only way he could beat me, and now, he doesn’t stand a chance. He’ll suffer the same fate as Cena and be forced to sit back and watch as I become the longest-reigning WWE CHAMPION OF ALL TIME! (Mizoney in the Bank comes out)
Miz - Congrats Sheamus on getting rid of your Nexus problem, but now you have a bigger one - a Miz problem. Sheamus, you don’t control the fate of the WWE Championship - I DO! And why? Because I possess THIS! MONEY IN THE BANK! I can cash this in any time I want for a WWE Championship match, so any time you’re in this ring, I’ll be watching you. Lemme put this in perspective for you. Say you beat Orton, but as you’re getting your hand raised, he hits you with an RKO. I’LL CASH IT IN. Maybe you’ll be doing an interview TALKIN LIKE A TOUGH GUY FELLA, BAM, I HIT YOU WITH THE CASE, DRAG YOU OUT TO THE RING, GET A REF, AND BEAT YOU ON THE SPOT. Or maybe, regardless of who’s champion, I wait. I wait. I wait for the moment that my entire career has been leading to - MAIN EVENTING WRESTLEMANIA! Or maybe I cash it in tonight. Either way, you can call me your celebrity stalker, because every move you make, every breath you take, I’LL BE WATCHING YOU. BECAUSE I’M THE MIZ AND I’M…
Sheamus - NOTHING. I’M SHEAMUS AND I’M THE WWE CHAMPION! (e-mail bings)
Cole - I’VE RECEIVED AN E-MAIL! Should the Miz want to cash in his contract tonight, I suggest he takes a seat at ringside because Sheamus, you will be in action right now against this man… (Bourne comes out)
Miz - R-TRUTH JUST COST ME THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP. I HAD SHEAMUS KNOCKED OUT WITH HIS BRIEFCASE. There will be other opportunities. I have an entire year, so whether it’s tomorrow night or July 17th, 2010, I will take my rightful place as WWE Champion.
Cole - Next month will be our 900th episode!
King - Santino’s dream team shows that you should always follow your dreams. Except the one you have about being naked at work, Michael.
Cole - Raw is brought to you by TWIX BRAND!
Barrett - Cena, you wanted a meeting with us? Well here we are. GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!
Tarver - Cena, we already made one truce tonight, but because of what’s already transpired against us, we give you our word that we will at least hear you out. IF you acknowledge that we, the Nexus, RUN THIS SHOW. IF YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CONTINUE WITH THIS REFUTILE RESISTANCE, WE WILL END THE LIFE OF WHAT’S LEFT OF YOUR SHORT CAREER. Show some remorse for assaulting Darren Young and assaulting me and every other member of the Nexus with the steps. If you do, then maybe, JUST MAYBE, we will consider it. This is all on you.
Cena - Thank you guys. Wade, thank you for meeting me out here. Ladies and gentlemen, since Nexus has arrived, I’ve had 2 WWE Title matches. In the first, they cost me the title, and in the second, they prevented me from winning it back. Apparently, I’m not in their bigger picture, so I don’t know why. Sheamus made a truce with you tonight, nad that’s something I should have done a long time ago. Sorry guys. I’m looking at you all man to man and asking you for the same thing.
Barrett - Our answer is no. I’m not interested in a truce, and Tarver, I’m not even interested in an olive branch. I’m not looking for peace, I’m looking for something bigger. I want you… (Cena chants start up) No, no, no don’t listen to them - listen to me. I want you to join us. I want you to become part of the Nexus. Think about it, everything you’ve achieved on your own, you could achieve ten times that by joining us. Face facts - the Nexus is the present and the future of WWE and together, we’re gonna be unstoppable. This isn’t much of a choice, because you’re either Nexus, or you’re against us. It’s up to you, John, if you want to join us and make history together.
Cena - Nope. Can’t do it.
Barrett - How unfortunate, because now you have 2 choices. 1, you can leave this ring with your tail between your legs and show the world what a coward you are. Or secondly, you can stand there and we will give you the most vicious beating the Nexus has ever administered. (Cena leaves)
Cena - Wade, I just wanna say one more thing. It’s something you’ve heard me say time and time again. Whether I do it myself or whether I have help - I WILL TAKE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU DOWN! Tonight’s peace offering was a test - you said no - and I’ve got me some help! Ever since ya came here, I’ve quietly been forming a team. A TEAM THAT WILL TAKE DOWN THE NEXUS AT SUMMERSLAM! You wanted me to join the Nexus and make history? Tonight, I WANT YOU TO MEET MY TEAM AND AT SUMMERSLAM, THE NEXUS IS HISTORY!
Cole - BRET HART HAS JOINED CENA’S BRIGADE!

i was also expecting either danielson or hhh to end the show. hart was a surprise, khali was just disappointment

edit: you could also see some genuine happiness on the face of edge when hart came out, had to be a fun moment for him to be on the same side hart

Now that Bret's back they'll probably send the Dynasty over to Smackdown for the month to feud with the Gatecrashers or SES.

I, for one, at least hold out hope that Khali bludgeons Darren Young with that Easter ham of a right hand. I'm also somewhat intrigued that he'll Biel toss Slater into third row.

Screw you, Khali. You're fucking eight feet tall and have a jaw like Oddjob. Either murder someone already or get out of the ring.

Khali HAS previously ended a human life in the ring.
