Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
i havent heard about us sending any ps3s or x360s back. all we carry at our store is the $500 80bg transformers bundle. i think that is the only version that bbv stocks at least in our area. we used to sell the 40gb but not anymore(do they even make those?)

that is a lot of flipping to get to that point. good luck.
Since it appears you work at BBV....have they given any indication when the "end" may be? I'm curious if I pre-order something at BBV goes under, what would happen. I'm looking at NCAA 10 or Madden 10 or maybe even that DJ game.

This might be the wrong place to ask so I am sorry ahead of time but can a BBV employee tell me if I rent a DS game and want to purchase (how it says for only $xx.xx you can own this game) how would I go about doing that without NOT returning it and having them charge my account. See I want to pay for it with my giftcard that I have. They don't sell the DS game (Poke Platinum) at all at the 5 closest stores. Thanks in advance and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

So the clearance sale is officially done? Because I had planned on checking out some BBV since I couldn't find anything at the Best Buy sale.

Is this a question or a statement about buying the giftcards?

You'll need the manager. Go in and rent the game and ask to speak to the manager before you check out. Ask them to do a "lost checkin" (POS command is lostckin) and you will have to pay the cost of the rental plus the used cost of the game. Some managers won't do it, but if you explain your situation they may help you out. I know I would. Shrug.

Good luck.

Thanks! I will do that! :) Do you know if I could get the box as well or would that be asking for too much? :p

actually, using lost check in command usually charges use the highest price. If you just rent it and keep it, it will charge you what is the on the recepit, which is usually the used price.

Also, just ask the for the box art, BBVs are usually sent multiples of them.

As I've had it explained to me several times:
If the store has ever had a used copy of the item in their inventory, then the "you will be charged" price is going to be the used price.
If they have not ever had a used copy in stock, then the "you will be charged" price is the new price.

I doubt any store has yet stocked a used Pokemon Platinum. You need a valid credit card on file to rent games, and that is what they will charge automaticly if you don't bring the game back. I suppose there are creative ways around this if you want to keep a rental and pay store credit, but it seems a lot of effort.
So all the games are gone huh? I knew I should have went and picked up some titles. Procrastinaton has got me again.
that is hilarious
Has anyone attempted to trade in the Singstar Country bundle? I'm curious to see if it goes for anything close $38. I picked up a couple at Sears, and the extra effort to buy Singstar (PS3) at GS is just not worth it to me.
Just for the record, I asked about Singstar Vol 2 bundle (PS3) TIV and was told there was no value for that. As for Singstar Country, I think I inquired last week and the bundle TIV was really low like 7 or 8 bucks, but more importantly see below.
I reported yesterday that one of the two new directives with regards to trade-ins was that they do not accept games with bundled accessories any more (the other being that they don't accept games without cover art). These were the only recent changes to the trade-in program that the manager of my local store was aware of.
I've noticed both of those directives in the last two days, however, I encountered a new one today that seemed to come from a knowledgeable employee who thought it was a recent change. She said:

Blockbuster will no longer accept trade-ins for PS2, Xbox1 and Gamecube games. This seems new cause only last week I got a trade-in quote for Singstar Pop vol 2 for 4.xx.

Anyway, I had some trouble trading in Singstar bundles today. First girl I think was just incompetent bc it lacked a barcode, second store they did the transaction with a Rock Revo as well then another guy came up and said they couldn't take ANYTHING anymore and that the transaction had to be reversed. Next 2 stores there was no problem. Luckily, there's tons of BB/GRs on my drive home.

As far as the clearance games go, at the incompetent girl's store, the full sale rack was still out, but I passed on REUC and HOD2&3R thinking more stores would have them still (thought games were to be shipped by end of the week). The selection of games was complete as if nobody bought any. I wonder if maybe the rack was still out with cases, but the actual games were long gone. Will check it out tomorrow. At the GR by my house I saw they only had 2 360 games left: Lost Odyssey and Ninja Gaiden 2. They also had a handful of PS3 games and for Wii there Wii Music, The zelda crossbow/game and Super Mario Sluggers or whatever. May get mario. I was hoping to start my new Wii collection with this sale, but after I got the Wii I didn't have time to research what games were good.

Then other then "lost check in" how am I able to pay with my giftcad instead of them charging my credit card dys006?

Blockbuster TIV sometime is really great but the employees are just urrrrggghhhh about this trade in stuff. They act like you committed a crime when you trade in too many game in a few weeks >.> (wasn't that many to be honest only around 20-30 games, they were different tittles too). They said I was suspicious for having too many games. What a joke. Made a complain to the corporate and they emailed me apologized and said they'll work it out with the district mananger but I'm still on the blacklist for trade in. They're only smile at me when i rent/buy stuffs. I haven't been in a blockbuster since they said I'm suspicious for having too many video games lol.
Then other then "lost check in" how am I able to pay with my giftcad instead of them charging my credit card dys006?
My thoughts involved something like temporary cards or pre-paid cards. Basicly giving them a card to file that passes validation, but will decline the charge when they try to charge for the unreturned game. I don't know how possible it is.

I know before when my card they had on file expired, the charges for unreturned movie would just go to my account at the store. But they wouldn't let me rent a game without giving a new credit card.
I think I'm going to be investigating this further myself.

Are there any places that BBV sells gift cards to that might carry the game? Or could try the Vanilla Visa.

Sent my g/f back to return a few clearance games I changed my mind on. They wanted to credit my debit card but she didn't have it with her...so I have like $50 on a Blockbuster gift card now. Probably just buy a couple Wii point cards or something. Used game selection isn't bad at my GR either, so that's an option. Hoping for a Buy 1 Get 1 sale for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Made my first "post" sale (more on that later...) visit to Blockbuster and thought I'd go out with a BANG! My first trade of 2 identical items to the same store at the same time since Monster Madness...

Rock Revolution (360): $19 (x2)

They still had display copies of all their "previous" sale games, and their used section didn't seem much smaller than my last visit. I picked up a display copy of a "New" 360 Incredible Hulk but... it wasn't in stock. I noticed when they looked that there were plenty of new game boxes still in the draw, but couldn't tell if these were the sale titles or not. Ended up getting a used copy. Also picked up the just released vol. 2 of the X-Men 90's cartoon for $20. And finally, noticed a new varient on their used DVD sale: 2 for $10 on $10 titles, I think.

Stopped by the store that had the clearance racks out still, but when they looked in the drawer for House of the dead 2/3 it was gone and the girls were shocked at how the drawers could be so empty. Guess they were clueless. In the Wii drawer I did spot Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sluggers and STFU.

Is it really truly over. I just picked up a PS3 and there are a handful of games I'd like to get that nobody else can beat the prices on . Guess I'll go and check, hoping.

Just a heads up that Gamestop seems to be offering some new kind of 360 Elite bundle that includes Fable 2 and Halo 3:

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74538

Does anyone know yet if the games come in a single pack like previous bundles? If so, since Gamestop's used section tends to be flooded with these things, there might be a small chance for a flip on these (depending on price, TIV, and packaging restrictions, of course.)

Even though I absolutely can't stand Gamestop, why haven't you looked there? Their used copies are $29.99.

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73548

I'm pretty sure that the cost for keeping the game from Blockbuster will be either comparable or possibly even HIGHER.

I know when I said I wanted to buy/keep the one game for the PS2 about 2-3 years ago from them, the cost was more than I could get it for NEW.

The only problem I could see with ordering, should you go with GS' online site, is that you may get the cart ONLY and have to return/swap out in store for a complete copy.

Made a complain to the corporate and they emailed me apologized and said they'll work it out with the district mananger but I'm still on the blacklist for trade in. They're only smile at me when i rent/buy stuffs. I haven't been in a blockbuster since they said I'm suspicious for having too many video games lol.
Same thing happened to me and many others. Blockbuster sez "Better Safe than Sorry." Besides, gamers shouldn't be playing more than two titles a year, let alone OWNING two of them!

I busted blockbuster's balls off by trading in rock revolutions for PS3 and 360 together at 5 different locations (An easy $100 -> $200 conversion). Bought an XBOX 360 arcade bundle and it was like gettting it for half off. I like to call it my own personal clearance special! How sweet is that???

GoVols - now that my Elite just got the RRoD (just minutes ago, exactly 2 years and 1 day after I bought it) I'm tempted to do the same ;).

Just curious IO, what game was you playing when it RROD'ed and also is it best to set the xbox flat or sideways???

I had been playing Oblivion (about 80 hours in) and the last few nights it froze occasionally but not too much and they seemed like "normal" freezes to me as they happened during loading transitions and such. But then today my son was playing GHWT and it froze multiple times, then finally just went to a screen with blue vertical lines. When I turned it back on after that time, I got the RROD. We've always kept it vertical but I've heard it is better to lay it flat - it just doesn't fit well where we have it when it is flat. Ours is out in the open with plenty of ventilation and is never touched/bumped by anything or anyone. It is also an Elite (though one of the first one) which were supposed to be made a little better. So much for all that though. MS screwed this up big time - I will definitely not be buying their next machine until it is out for even longer (I waited 1 1/2 years this time, maybe 3-4 next time). My Wii is also hosed up (corrupt memory). I guess I'll go all PS3 for now - that is only about 5 months old, though, so it has plenty more time to fail on me too .

To keep this relevant to the BBV thread - I had installed the GotY content for Oblivion when that was a good flip a few months back. Now, since it isn't really DLC, how will that behave when I get a new/refurb system? Am I going to have to obtain another GotY disc? I think the one I traded in to my local store just got sent back with most of the other trade-in games... (And no, the GotY edition has never been available for rent at any of the BBV or Hollywood stores I've ever been to so that's not an option).

I'm not sure how it'll behave with a new console, but if you do need to reinstall it, why not just buy from GS (on trade credit, no doubt), install, and return?

The oblivion content will stay on your hardrive. You can't download it from xbox live but as long as you use your same hard drive from the old console it should be on there. Think I'm gonna go on a rock revolution frenzy this weekend and fully pay off infamous.

Hmm. I have all 3 Halos and have hardly played them. Every time I started playing Halo, my original xbox died and I went through several that I took perfect care of.

I'm gonna keep feeding them Rock Revos to get half off on Wii/PSN/XBLA points, maybe a classic controller, Madworld if they still sell it.

A friend and I traded in about 16 Rock Revolutions to various BBVs today. I'm really gunning for a PS3, but I keep going back to Best Buy to buy more copies when I happen across a BBV that'll sell Vanilla Visas.

I really hope I can hit my goal of 300-350 by Sunday, that's my goal. Whether I'll manage more Vanilla Visas, I don't know.

We were informed at one of the first stops that emails had been attached to our accounts and that we would never be able to trade in games again...This was prior to me buying the Visa cards, and I was shocked. I've really never had a corporate douchebag talk to me like that, kinda just curled up in a mental ball and continued on flipping. (I'm just now coming down from the addictive high of flipping)

i dropped in tonight looking for new games. I did not see an aisle or shelf with any new 360/PS3 games for sale. So I guess it is over. I did however, see some new wii games on clearance, but I think they're expected to be cleared out by 5/2? They also had a bunch of PS2 games on clearance. I found MGS3: subsistence for $9.99

I traded in Kabooki tonight, still getting $16 :)
I tried trading in Rock Revolution to 2 seperate Blockbusters and both rejected saying they had to many in stock.
Looking at the post immediately before yours, I wonder if Wooster is anywhere near Cleveland

So let me get this straight, you traded in games to one store and after that, they told you they were not going to allow you to trade in games again.

or

As you were going to trade the games in, they told you they could not accept your games because your account said that you were banned from trading in at EVERY store or just that location.

ALERT!!! I went to the temple city, CA store during the day today and the employee there told me that they only give $4 for either system of Rock Revolution!!! I hate franchise stores...

Are the Vanilla Visa cards easily used online for Amazon gift certs? I've read some horror stories so just wanted to make sure as this would be a great way to get rid of my BBV credit

I dumped one of the three copies of the GTA IV SE I bought from Blockbuster back on my closest store last night.

They tried giving me the bs line about 'you have to go back to the store you got it from', but I was in no mood and argued and they credited my debit card the $31.79.

I checked at that store and another local one and yes, the sale is over.

They sent out their games earlier this week and that's why they tried giving me that line of bs.

If anyone wants it, it's at the Blockbuster on Meridian Ave in Scranton, PA.

TIV of 4/30
Infinite Discovery $15
Rock Revolution (360/ps3) $19
RE5 (ps3) - $30
QoS (360) - $8
They dont take disney sing it (360)

My store was void of new games as well. The worker thought they may have been in the back, becuase we cant just stop selling new games....

So I missed out on BoomBlox and am kind miffed at myself for not grabbing it new at $20.

If you already have Vanilla Visas, sure. But if you don't, then you won't be able to get them with BBV credit anymore.

When purchasing Giftcards using your Visa Vanilla, do it in increments of $50 or less... anything higher might have them put an authorization charge on the card and leave with without enough for the transaction. Happened when I tried to buy a $100 Amazon gift card.

I went into a BBV really quick yesteray....most was cleared out. They still had overpriced USED games and a select few NEW games (Battlefield, Little Big Planet and Metal Gear Solid if I recall). I'm hoping LBP drops to around $30 one day :)
Anyone purchase a Vanilla Visa with credit (on a card) lately? I may just do that.
