Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Top Spin 3 PS3 - BB $9.99 -> Amazon 8.00

Wall-e wii - Amazon DROPPED to $5
Baja PS3 EOC - Amazon DROPPED to $5.25

For those of you who are saying that your store isn't running this sale, as long as it isn't a franchise store, then your local BBV is most certainly doing this sale although the employees may not know it. I picked up Ninjatown (been wanting this game for a while) and Mario & Sonic Olympics Wii (wanted another solid mini-game compilation) at my local store, and the employee who rang up the purchase had no idea about this sale. However, when he hit "total", the 2nd $14.99 game was credited.

To a poster a couple above, yes you can buy anything in the store you want without a membership. If you're 17+ then you can get M rated titles fine too, if you are like 16 then an account can be nice because it say YES to restricted rentals, so you could buy M/R rated material on it as well.

And yeah, as of last night I still didn't see anything for the sale except 3/20$ on used movies going up today. District manager was even in but I didn't want to ask him to make sure because then it might look bad on my managers if they knew and didn't say anything, which I don't think they know anyway.

The first BB I went to today, had stacks of used games behind the counter, so I went up and asked if they were still selling used games, and she said no, but directed me to another BB down the road. I hit that one, but they didn't really have anything worth picking up (as luck would have it though, I walked to the pawn shop across the street and picked up mint and complete copies of COD4 (360) and Twilight Princess (GCN) for $9.99 and $4.99)

I hit one more BB on the way home and they didn't have any signs up yet. I asked about the sale and the girl called another BB and confirmed the sale and got the code. This store definitely had some good trade fodder for the FNR4 deal, but I already snagged a copy. I ended up grabbing Bioshock (360) and Baja: Edge of control (360). The girl couldn't get the code to work, so she just did it through a credit and somehow they only came to $12.21 after tax....no complaints here:D

Was able to pick up TWEWY and Viva Pinata pocket fun for 10 bucks. BBV didn't really have much else. Thanks to the OP and everyone with the price updates! :)

Unless I missed a bunch, there's only SIX games from this B1G1 list that qualify for the Gamestop FNR4 promo and FIVE of those are on 360:

:360:
007 Quantum of Solace
Bioshock
GTA IV
Shellshock 2
Spiderman Web of Shadows

Thanks. I knew I must've missed a few. I have both of those in my personal collection, though I think Folklore is going for the FNR4 promo, assuming I can find copies of any of the other ones that qualify.

The way it is, I plan on getting a gift receipt and trying to grab a spare DS 3 by returning FNR4, since I can't stand sports games.

I just went to 1 BB near my job.

1 DS Ninja Gaiden
1 DS Locke's Quest
1 DS Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
3 360 QoS
2 PS3 Folklore

Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayer for the Wii is available @ 14.99

Just got back from my BBV. Most of the games are in decent condition except for GTA 4 and missing the manuel or slip covers. The guy working there was cool he let me look at the games he was getting ready to put out to sell.

Spider Man Web of Shadows 14.99
Quantom of Solace - 14.99
MX vs ATV Untamed - 6.99
Viking - 6.99

I have been told at more than one store that MX vs ATV and Spider-man WoS were $19.99 and $29.99 respectively. Could I be pricing the wrong versions? I think I priced MX for 360 and Spidey for PS3.

EDIT: Now I see MX for 360 in the post above for $6.99. What's up with that?!

PS3
---------------------------------------
Battlefield: Bad Company - $14.99

Xbox 360 - 007 QoS

BBV Store 2 ($30)

PS3 - GTA4

Xbox 360 - Spiderman Web of Shadows

BBV Store 3 ($7)

Xbox 360 - Condemned 2 (6.99 w/original case + manuals)

Since I don't have a PS3, I traded those 2 PS3 games and Spiderman for free Fight Night Round 4 at Gamestop. I still have 3 more for possibly another FNR4 by 7/12. I'll keep the rest. I might play Battlefield and trade it for $6 by the end of this week.

That was me! :) Sorry about that! If you said something I would have handed it over. Plenty of BBs where I live to pillage. I just happen to be down there for work.

Nabbed that GTAIV and QOS.

Someone traded in a mint Disgaea (Black Label). Picked that up too.
Question to everybody who got The World Ends with You. Are your games complete with original cover art and manuals? I really don't want to walk in my local BBV if I can't get a complete copy. They think I'm a criminal for trading in 3 copies of Rock Revolution back in April.
I went to 6 stores today and 1 store had TWEWY with the original artwork and manual. I don't even have a DS, but I kept track of nearly all the games at each store.
That was me! :) Sorry about that! If you said something I would have handed it over. Plenty of BBs where I live to pillage. I just happen to be down there for work.

A bit off topic. How can you tell when someone at the store is a CAG too? I'm always curious when people say they ran into someone. Is there like a secret handshake?

Went to 6 BBVs, 3 Targets, and 1 GS.

Bought:

Bioshock - ps3
Folklore - ps3
GTA - ps3
and traded these in for FNR4

For every1 thinking of doing the FNR4 deal, I can give you an optimistic rundown of what I saw so far. Out of 6 stores, 4 had multiple copies of GTA (2 to 5 copies), 5 had 1 copy each of bioshock - ps3, 3 stores had 1 copy each of folklore, all 6 stores had 007, and I didn't see any copies of MX vs ATV.

I also bought
Mario + sonic
Samba de amigo
Army of 2
We Ski
Quantum of Solace
Mercenaries 2
Frontlines

Then I went to GS and bought Tenchu Shadow assassins and Race Pro to flip cause I'm nearly out of credit.

Someone once asked at a TRU in the morning if I was a CAG. I said "yeah" and he said "me too".

And that was that.

If they looked they haven't showered in a week , carrying a handful of cheap games games, and a list printed of cheap games ... then you can assume they are a CAG.

Just kidding... I have never met a CAG ever...

picked up

Pokmeon darkness 14.99
ninjatown 14.99 (so 7.50 each)

locks quest and madden 09 for the ds for 9.99 (or 5 each)

Dupount has nothing for the ds or psp worth buying (wall e and iron man and high school crap)

A funny thing i noticed today is how spread out the games are. An employee looked up on the computer that out of 10 stores only 1 had any mario vs sonic at the olympics and that store had three copies. Only 1 store had iron man 360 and they had three copies. I have more examples of this because I wrote notes at each store of they have.

Thank god for employees being able to look up other stores' inventory. It helped me save time today.

I went to 2 stores and they had some ok stuff but I decided not to part with any of my money.

I found Fear 2 (PS3) marked $14.99 but it rang up at $40 and the manager wouldn't cave. Bummer.

As for the condition of the games, I saw every possible combination. Disc-only. Disc and manual with no case. Disc and case with no manual. Most 360 games were in black generic cases rather than the distinctive green ones. Most PS3 games were in their original cases though.

I got these:

sonic and mario olympics wii: $15
army of two 360: $free it was $15

Viking 360: $10
the club xbox: $free it was $10

Poor selection compared to last year.

I picked up:

Wii:
DeBlob
Samba de Amigo

PS3
NBA 2k8
GTA4

for $25

I thought my wife would like Samba De Amigo - she doesn't. Anyone want to trade it for something else of comparable price? I'd be interested in

PS3 - Dark Sector, DMC4, Virtua Tennis 3, Fracture
Wii - SSX Blur, MLB Power Pros, Incredible Hulk

Nothing great at mine. Definitely dissapointed that not a single BB is selling mirror's edge where I live. Forgot to ask about Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Picked up

Bioshock (PS3) - $14.99
GTA 4 (PS3) - $14.99

flipped them at gamestop for trade 3 select games to get Fight Night 4 free (added in my own MX vs ATV (360)).

Quantum of Solace (360) $14.99
Army of Two (360) $14.99

overall today i got 3 games for $30+tax very good day :)

Some TIVs at Gamestop
Wii
Okami:8.50
Alien Syndrome 2.25
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground 5.75

also Okami was only 6.99. 6.99 -> 8.50 is pretty nice + its b1g1. Race Pro still trades in for 19 at BBV. The cashier rang me up paying for all the most expensive games I bought. I had to explain to him that I could just do seperate transactions. So he just refunded me.
