Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Another huge game transfer this week(80 pieces). They have to have a b1g1 sale soon with all the stock we have now. Maybe it will coincide with the b2g1 that Gamestop will hopefully run soon.

Not many price drops but 2 good ones. Brutal legend for both systems will drop to $9.99 and star wars the clone wars: republic heroes for all 3 systems will be $9.99 effective mon 3/1. Last reported value at gs for star wars was $15 for the x360 so good flip and im sure stores have an abundance of that game since we have 17 copies across all 3 systems in our store.
Yeah, Gwen, that seems unusual. What most of us are seeing is a (relative) glut of used games at our local BBVs, meaning it is a perfect time for them to implement a B1G1. Even my little local store is well stocked. Now, don't get me wrong, "well stocked" for this store means they have about 40-50 used games.
Well, fiddle.

Even the store on Lost Mountain (I think it's Lost Mountain) which used to have tons of games (albeit totally crappy and unwanted titles), had nothing yesterday. I saw three POGs at the Hiram store, which was three more than I've seen anywhere else. They've scaled back Game Rush's here to be almost entirely rentals, and have closed the Douglasville BBV store on Hwy 5 completely.

I have Game Rush envy.
I picked up legendary for 360 for $10. Does anybody know how much fallout 3 is going for? That should be $10 by now!
Fallout 3 for the 360 was still going for $19.99 as of a few days ago at a store I went to.

There is a 50% off sale going on?

Assuming Gamestop doesn't change the 'trade 2, pay $20 for God Of War III/Final Fantasy XIII' eligible list titles, one could buy Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes for both 360 and Wii and end up getting either game for $40(plus tax).

However, after 50% bump(60% w/EDGE), the TIV's might be better if you just take in both games to seperate stores and trade them in individually.

Unfortunately, there's no TIV listed in the GS thread for the Wii version of the game, so that may be a crapshoot. But the total after EDGE n promo for the 360 version would be $24($15 base, $7.50 promo, $1.50 EDGE), assuming it holds up till the prices drop Monday @ BBV.

wow or an east coaster could just call and get the TIV instead of posting about a crapshoot...;)

I could but my Gamestop stores are the crapshoot when it comes to whether or not they'll give out a TIV over the phone.

I was kinda shocked the TIV wasn't in the GS thread's value post on the first page.

Thanks. I just saw your post in the GS thread and was going to mention it here, Nintendo.

So after 50% bump and EDGE, it's $24 a copy. Not a bad flip. Then you only need to pay $12(plus tax) for an upcoming game. Sweet deal.
Only valid until Monday and may not make sense...
Basically titles traded are worth $25 ....
Perhaps there are cheap PS3 MX Vs ATV Reflex or ?
Trade 2 titles on this list and buy any $59.99 preordered game for $9.99
If you can find some of the POG's that people have mentioned(Bayonetta, for one)for $10 this is a tolerable deal, but otherwise they're raping you almost as bad as Gamestop with their current 'trade 2, get a game for $20' deal.
This is what I got today -- Prices are after the 50% off presidents day sale

MGS 3 Subsistence $4
PS3 beatles RB $20
GameCube Super Smash Bros. Melee $3

Sadly all of them had stupid sharpie on the manual and disc ( but atleast they were complete )
im confused prez day has past right? is this sale going on this weekend?
im confused prez day has past right? is this sale going on this weekend?
They're having a New Year's sale next weekend.

Just got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness for $6.99 and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 for 14.99 both used. Obviously YMMV

I just checked my closest BBV and they have about 5 copies for each platform(PS3, 360, Wii) of that Clone Wars: Republic Heroes. I'm debating if I wanna hit them up on Monday for 1-2 copies each and flip 'em to GS for $24 a pop. Who am I kidding? I'll probably be there bright n early on Monday hoping they updated.

I feel like towelie, I have no idea whats going on.

I tried to buy SW Clone Wars on 360 and it was $30, no discount. I thought that was supposed to be 50% off or something?

star wars the clone wars: republic heroes for all 3 systems will be $9.99 effective mon 3/1.
Hmm, interesting; now I just need a few GS to BB flips so I don't have to spend any real money (if at all possible).
Thank you once again hawaiiboy for the update. Your helpful information is very appreciated here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I really want a copy of Brutal Legend and Star Wars for myself. If I can find any extra star wars games to flip, that would be nice also.

If they end up having a B1G1, would it make sense that it might be at the end of their fiscal quarter if they want to boost profits? When would that be? The end of march?

Thanks I actually kinda wanted to play that game, if I can do that and still trade it into GS for a profit that'd be nice too :)
as well as a Ghostbusters game guide for $10 (missed out on the penny drop). Nice... I don't remember seeing any used copies of either of those for sale. Are you saying these will be pulled from rental on Monday (as well as price dropped)? Cause, uh, yeah, there's no way there's 17 copies of anything at my local BBV (even across all systems). My baby is coming then so it will be tough for me to get out there (especially to any other stores besides my lame little local one) - hopefully they last a day or two. I beat Brutal Legend on a rental already but the kids would probably like to play through the Star Wars game (though the reviews are not good). Plus I could always flip them too ;). (First goal is one for the kids though).

IO, I had a major game pull from rental to used today and I had no brutal legend in mine. We already have a few used BL's out on the floor.

So basically, whoever is planning on doing the SW flip has only monday to do it, because with that game being traded in by one thousand people across the whole US, its going to drop big time come monday.

I'll be doing research tomorrow, and setting my alarm early.

Nice for Brutal Legend....I want to paly that, so maybe I'll pick up 1 for me, 1 for Gamestop. Is this USED copies or new version of the game?

Everything is automatic so I'm sure most stores won't get the price changes done in the morning so just ask them to check the price and it will show $9.99.

Of the 17 copies of star wars among all 3 platforms the x360 version should be the easiest to find. We have 13 x360 copies, 2 wii and 2 ps3. We did a few additional today but most of them were done over the last month or so so there should be copies at most stores.
sorry to ask but does anyone know how much brutal legend tiv is at gamestop?
There's a Gamestop TIV thread in Video Game Deals with the info you're looking for in the second post or so on the first page.:D Good luck.

Got KH 358/2 Days ($14.99 with booklet and case in like new condition) and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: EoD ($6.99 without booklet and like new case) this morning.

I used to be an avid "flipper"..bbv-gs gs-bbv.....is gs to bbv pretty much completely dead? I wonder if the kabooki game still held it's value....i must say it's a weird asian game and the way you have to "jerk" your wii-mote makes it even more odd......

I used to be a sadist necrophiliac into bestiality until I realized I was beating a dead horse...

I'll call and ask for a TIV or two if anyone has any ideas on potential flips. I was thinking Halo Wars may still do ok (possibly even).

The closest thing I could find for an even flip would be halo wars and rogue warriors which is $26.99 at gs and trades for $22 at Bbv. They are small loses but worth it for me since I have so much gs credit and none at Bbv.
Halo Wars gets 15.00
Where are you getting it for less than $15!?

Is it just $16.19 at GS with Edge -> $15 at BBV? That doesn't sound like something I'd go out of my way for...

I think he means it trades at BBV for 15, and its 17.99 used at gamestop (before edge) so its almost a 1-1 flip

Hey anyone place a pre order for Final Fantasy or God of War At Blockbuster. I went in their the other nite and they had a sign telling you that you would get a 5 dollar gift car instantly for placing a pre order for it. I placed the pre order and they told me i couldn't get the gift card until i picked the game up and paid it in full.

That's probably to stop people from doing like many(myself included) were planning on doing at Best Buy by putting a meager $5 down on Red Dead Redemption to get the 250 bonus Reward Zone points they're currently offering with pre-order of the game.

The way it was explained to me is that you had to pay off and pick up the game before the points will post.
