Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

question anybody play eat lead:return of matt hazard on ps3?
It's fun and short. It's a game that makes fun of itself, and lots of other games / culture along the way. Not the end of the world if you miss it, but I enjoyed it well enough.
Ugh.

Prepack games come from distribution as prepack games. Games inserted, stickers already on. You can't "tell if the wrong barcode stickers are attached" unless you do a count on all ps3 prepacks and all ps3 copies of bayonetta and see if there's a difference, and you need the computer to do that which you don't have access to.

And why would you buy a madden with nothing over a madden with everything? No reason, unless you really don't give a F what it comes with. But when it gets down to the last copy in the store, if you want it, you have no choice. The store can't magically generate new books and covers if for whatever reason they're short, that happens commonly enough.
OK, thanks for the explanation. I'll try again tonight to see if there are any changes.

BTW, at other BBV, I was buying two
iconpsp_r2.gif
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny. 1 to keep and the other to flip. Employee A asks me "you want two of the same game" I said "yes" and he started to look for the games...he pulls out 2 rental cases and checks inside (he has his back to me, but I can see everything and I saw the UMDs). Another employee B comes by and see what I'm buying and says " Wow, this is a pretty new game and it's BOGO free...only $7.50 each, you're very lucky". At that time, employee A slides one of the rental cases off to the side and comes to me and says "sorry, we only have one Soul Calibur".

I said "it's right there in that rental case" at this point employee B is nearer to the case, he opens it and says "yup, it's in here" and hands it to employee A who says "oops, I didn't see before".

I was little upset, but I said "No problem". I was just happy to get the games.

I find stories like this pretty funny. It's amazing how many people won't look at stuff their own store is selling. Come on people, your store is having a sale, at least get off your lazy ass and see it there is anything there you want! Don't try to keep it away from customers who already picked it up.

Yeah. I had an employee who didn't realize the sale was going on. Even though there were signs up. I asked him to lump the games together to get me the best deal. He said "Why would you be getting one free?". He then told me he is normally on top of all the deals and had to check with his manager. Sure you are man.

I response to the posts about 'looks like a prepack, doesn't scan like a prepack'...a lot of my BBVs are reusing the prepack cases to put disc-only rental conversions out for sale. Raises my hopes every time I see a fairly new release in a clear case w/ a yellow lock...only to find out it's not a prepack and is $44.99.

Has anyone had any luck with their stores being restocked? I feel like this question was answered about when they're restocked (someone said Sundays, if at all), but I figured I'd alter it and see if anyone had actually seen them restocked already.

I was actually about to post this. According to an employee at my BBV, they put games out on Sunday. No, not get them in- put them out. So what that translates to is, "we've got them behind the counter, and we're getting them in periodically, but we can't put them out yet." So YMMV if your BBV puts out games as soon as they get them in.

picked up SFIV, Red Faction: Guerilla, Lost Odyssey for X360, and Phantom Hourglass for DS, all for $30. love this sale.

side note: they were running a 5 for $20 dvd clearance as well ($9.99 or under dvds) and i asked if it included blu-ray. csr said yes, so i grabbed Michael Clayton, Walk Hard, Revolutionary Road, I Love You Man, and He's Just Not That Into You, and they rung up at $50 and the coupon didn't work. they gave did a manual credit for $30 and i got 5 blu-rays for $20. its worth a try to see if the csr's at your local bb are also clueless

I checked with a couple of BBV in CT and they are not aware of any B1G1 deals for used games. Could it be that it is in the system but the workers are not aware of it? Or is it a YMMV deal? Trying to gauge if it is worth a shot of taking two games up and seeing if they have the B1G1 programmed in or not.

That is a huge YMMV

Is Killzone 2 $14.99 or $19.99? I price checked one yesterday and she said $19.99, but I keep hearing people say they got it in the sale, but don't specify if it was a prepack or not. She also said Mario & Sonic Olympics (not winter) was $29.99...

It is automatic IF it is a corporate BBV and not a franchise store.

At least half the employees are clueless so I definitely would not take what they say at face value.

Well I had already bought 1 copy of Mario & Sonic at a different store a day or two prior and it was either $9.99 or $14.99, I can't remember. I'm thinking either they raised the price for some odd reason or it was tagged wrong and had a M&S Winter Olympics sticker.

I couldn't stand Eat Lead. I platted it and then traded it in. I know it is supposed to be a 'funny' game, but why does it have to be so bad! lol
oh yeah and my bbv guy was funny, he started going on a rant about how they should have hastings(?) policy where they take a picture of the disk and if it comes back with any scratches or differences then they charge you the full price. I thought it was a bit strict but I'm like, cool dude, give me my games :)
wow, does anyone know this dizee guy from Cag? he lives in stl and he seems to be a major douche loser. He is a blight on the cag community and giving everyone here a bad name. I wish we had a kick/report button so that we could keep this site cleaner. oh well, guess he is the first to go on my ignore list.
The 2 blockbusters I have near me, both of them will ring them up in price groups 14.99, 9.99, 6.99 and so on. Then promt the discount after ringing up the first 2.

Like the other day, the manager rung up 2 14.99 games first and discounted them (giving me one 14.99 free), then he rung up the 2 9.99 games I had together and discounted them (giving me one 9.99 free). This is all in the same transaction.
yup mine two. I asked if I could do two seperate transactions and the guy said " Oh, may I ask why?" . I told him because it's cheaper that way and he laughs and says " I can group them up in the same transaction. All we have to do is scan the pair, hit total then scan the next pair. We like to give customers the best deal possible so they'll come back"

I'm also not sure if the bogo comes up automatically because every BBV I went to had to scan a special upc for the sale.

Awesome sale. Part 3 of my purchase for this sale. Here's what i got today

KH 358/2 14.99
Soul calibur PSP free

Dissidia:FF 14.99
MUA 2 PSP free

These are going straight to GS. Thanks guys! Thank you for teaching me the way of the flip.

I have never found any POG games at Blockbusters. It sucks. So many people are getting like, Gears 2 for only $6.99 and BOGO...I wish my Blockbusters showed some more love. I may hit a couple more this weekend to confirm they don't have them either...

Decided to go to one more BBV located a bit further away from my office. Wasn't expecting much and I wasn't disappointed . The game section was pretty well picked over, but I ended up getting:

iconwii.gif
Wing Island - $6.99
iconwii.gif
Wonderworld Amusement Park - $6.99 (free)

Went to check the Howell, NJ store for B1G1, but it's closing. All DVD's were 4.99, TV DVD sets were 13.49 (Mad Men was the only one that stood out), Blu Rays were 14.44 or something like that.

Used Games were 40 percent off, but they only had PS3 Tomb Raider Underworld and G-Force, and 360 Transformers ROTF left.

They did have some guides, Fallout 3 (non GOTY) marked at 12.50, that if it counts as a game accessory is 60 percent off of that, also Phantom Hourglass, Assassins Creed 2 and UFC 09 guides.

Went by for what should be my last visit this week. I needed four games to qualify for the 50% extra TI deal at Gamestop with my two copies of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (clearanced for $15 @ Sears) so I picked up these:

Burnout Paradise (360)- $10
Chaotic Shadow Warriors (360)- $10
Overlord II (360)- $15
Bigs 2 (360)- $15

After B1G1 it came to 26-something. I don't have my receipt with me. So after spending just under $60 I plan on making almost $100 more in Gamestop credit. :p
that's only $0.25 more than he payed for it...
I didn't buy it....I just know the TIV because I asked over the phone on Wed night and confirm the TIV @ GS today when I was trading other games.
+ bonuses
I would have gotten $11.63 so it's not worth the flip....my goal is 2 times or more for flips...sometimes 1.9 times or if I need an extra game for the extra bonus.

Beautiful Katamari is the deal of the century! 6.99 turns into 12+ credit at GS! I have prolly spent about 75-100 at various BBV and turned it into about $300 credit at GS with this sale. I found so many copies of SSBB and a couple Mario & Sonic and Super Sluggers almost all were re-packs too meaning 3.50 => 25.

Beautiful Katamari (complete) is worth more on ebay than GS credit.
Wondering if there are still any games to be had. There are a couple stores I could go to this evening. What say you?
I just went this morning and spent about $21+tax for 6 games and went right to gamestop and got about $77 credit for it.

hmm, anyone got a list of the "best" trade in value games for this blockbuster sale??

Yea, I've been mostly finding them as prepack. Plus, since I've been flipping so many at a time from BBV -> GS, I've been hitting the tiered trade deal and getting 18 for BK.

YEs but there are bonuses, and i needed one more game for the 6/40%+edge=50%
yes borg, it will work even if the employees are not aware of it
Thanks HS, I may give it a whirl.

I stopped at another BBV store in Western CT but they had a sign up that said buy 1 get 2nd 50% off and the prices were inflated from what is being reported here - almost everything was $19.99 with a few things goning for $14.99.

On the last gen console games they had a sign that said buy 2 get 1 free. for that the only thing of note I saw was GC Mario Double Dash, Mario Power Tennis and a couple of Pokeman Games (Collusseum and the one with the purple dragon-like pokemon on it). Not much really.

I got 2 complete Beautiful Katamaris for $6.99 and I was debating the $18 TIV @ GS and ebaying them....ebay gets a lot more. If BKs are POGs then trading in at GS is the best way to go.

Stopped by BBV yesterday and got:

Beautiful Katamari (complete) $6.99
Solider of Fortune: Payback (free)

Really just wanted Beautiful Katamari and couldn't find a decent game to pair it with for B1G1F - I'll probably just return SoFP or something. :/

That's like work though and we all know that the newer CAG's don't like to earn their deals/flips and would rather just ask(and ask and ask and ask)ad nauseam until someone finally caves and gives them what they want.

But I will cave and give them a game that gets alot at Gamestop.

Madden(any year, any condition, buy all dem shits);)
