ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

How long have you been following the GR/BB threads? You obviously have not paid very much attention to the sheer volume of games kunaied by DJKunai. I don't live very far from Kunai (about 45 miles away), but I know that the area in which he resides is GR abundant (not even counting the Blockbusters, just GRs). I have ventured there once or twice, and most stores are pretty carefree. I'm not saying that everything Kunai says is true, but you better believe it's damn well possible.

Spent $148.64 at GS (2 stores) on Saturday and got $292.60 in credit at BB (2 GR, 1 non-GR).

Also grabbed :ds: Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. They had 4 copies on the shelf. I was in shock as my stores seem to hate the DS.

All 3 BBs oddly had Grammy CDs by the registers. I saw 2008 Grammy Nominees, Ultimate Grammy Collection: Contemporary Pop, and Ultimate Grammy Collection: Contemporary Country. The price was $13.99 (or was it $12.99?). Amazon is $12.97 so I guess the price is decent (considering I would be technically paying half price).

Is darkness still 33 for the ps3, check the wiki and it was alittle while back, can anyone confirm this because toyrus has them for 9.90.

Which games did you get from GS? That's a lot of cash to be spending in GS in the first place.

How did ya find that out? Is there still a toysrus clearance thread around here somewhere? This would be a great flip if it pans out :bouncy:
Went to some Gamestops and picked up marvel/forza bundle printed new covers and took them to BB and they got flagged and then they opened the game pulled out the printed paper and Said we do not accept printed covers. So I left went to another one and Traded in Only 1 game and worked, went to another one traded in the another and it work. So it looks like when you trade together they are getting Flagged but apart is ok. Happen to me 3 times till I figured out how to work BlockBuster ^_^. This is in Indiana. Thanks
This is strictly YMMV. Two Blockbusters I tried last night wouldn't accept the games without the insert (that has the UPC), even though they have copies readily available that they could scan. I was told they needed the inserts to prevent people trading in bootlegs, which is kind of funny cause I can't see anyone failing to see a difference between a real disc and a fake.
They also won't accept printed inserts, and I'm going to save myself the embarrassment of trying to slip one past them and getting called on it. I've decided to return the Forza/Marv combo back to Gamestop and pick up another Hour of Victory.
Having said that I think Blockbuster's trade in policy needs to change. It makes no sense that they'll sell preplayed games with only a disc in a generic case, yet refuse to accept a trade in that lacks only an insert.

Traded in the following yesterday:

Hour of Victory 360 ($19.82 + tax @ Walmart) ---->($32 GR credit)
The Bigs 360 (~$16 @ Gamestop after discounts) ------>($32 GR credit)
The Darkness 360 (~$17 @ Gamestop after discounts) ------>($32 GR credit)
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground LE 360 ($14.50 @ Target) ------->($25 GR credit)

I ended up with a new copy of Burnout Paradise and enough extra for GTAIV! Thank you Gamerush thread!

Also picked up another 2 Forza/MUA from the same store along with a Motorstorm. I'm pretty new to this and was wondering if Blockbuster/GR get suspicious if you start bringing in multiple copies of the same game like the Forza/MUA bundle.

EDIT: Will Blockbuster deny a game for being in a black case apposed to being in a green one for the 360? If not does anyone know where to pick some green ones on the cheap?

Also traded a few games I don't play/beat. They also are no longer accepting '07 sports games but games but gamestop took them for $7-8 each.

Forza 2:...............$22
MUA:....................$15
Kameo:................$8
Virtua Tennis 3:...$15
Saints Row:.........$12
Crackdown:.........$15

I don't think they care about the case as long as it's got the barcode on it to scan. As for multiple trading it seems to vary store by store some people can do it carefree some people get busted when they try.

Hit up GS today got HoV and Motorstorm. Totally forgot about the The Bigs that woulda been better then MS but oh well. Made sure to grab one without the Not for resale tag on it as well. Gonna check this Darkness as well and see if it's on sale or not before I dump tomorrow.

Couple TIV's I think got missed from the thread change over.

These prices are 2/5/08

:ps3: Virtua Fighter 5 - $16
:ps3: Full Auto 2 - $20
:ps3: Resistance: Fall of Man - $30

Well, found out today that the Marvel:Ultimate Alliance "Gold" edition (360) goes for the same $15 trade-value as the normal addition. Also traded in:

X-men:eek:fficial game (360)-$8.

Anyway, I have $23 in credit and plan to get Lost Odyssey on friday. I have only about $9 more in cash that I can put towards it, so I'll have to trade something in my collection to cover the rest (as all the GS's have apparantly ran out of HOV). Here are my possibilities (all 360)- I just need some help deciding which of these options I should rush through within the next 5 days (of course taking into account that the assumed trade values hold through the next week.)

Assasin's Creed (which I'll assume should net about $35)

The Darkness (if holds at $32)

Jericho ($30-$35?)

or both Spider-Man 3 and Bioshock (I'm guessing around $40 for both)

(I also have Mass Effect, but I'm under the impression that the title holds some long-term play value. And then there's Turok, which is probably the most expendable to me of the bunch; but due to how recent a purchase it was, is probably best to hold on to for credit towards GTA4)

Thanks for the reminder on the Bigs. I maxed out on copies of Darkness and HOV to trade, but the Bigs will be a nice flip. Need to get some Xbox live points cheap.
Also check Toys R Us tomorrow, it was mentioned on their thread that the PS3 version of Darkness is dropping tomorrow to 9.90 on clearance.
I've only trade 360 versions, so I should be good on some of them.

Picked up two copies of Hour of Victory for about $11.69 at Gamestop (after coupon and edge card), and traded them in to BB for $64. Now I've got my GTA4 money.

Found no Darkness at ToysRUs.

However, did the following trades today:
Jericho (PS3) $26
Spiderman 3 (360) $15
Orange Box (360) $32
Halo 3 (360) $28.50

nope, 26.99 @ GS. not really worth it IMO, mua/forza and HoV are still the best kunai's now. I just traded in:

Madden 08 - 28.50
Forza 2 - 22
Forza 2 - 22
MUA - 15
MUA - 15

Tomorrow I will trade in 2x Forza 2/MUA and The Bigs to bring my grand total to: $556 + tax on the trades....

I also pre-ordered SSBB, as they had about 5 different signs up urging me to do so.... Now I just need them do get a damn Wii.

Hm..how much is the Forza/MUA set at GS? I don't really have any DVD cases lying around, so is there a place where I can buy a set? Also, do you guys just print out the Forza/MUA covers on regular paper?

EEEEKKKKKKK...... Do a simple search next time

1. 19.99
2. ask for them when you buy forza/mua
3. YMMV (some people need to print, some don't) I do not, lucky me
EEEEKKKKKKK...... Do a simple search next time
Thats like asking people to make a simple phone call, it goes against the lazyness factor.

Cant wait to dump these games tomorrow, im driving up to the GameRush thats half an hour away...here is hoping for a used ps3 or a 60gig.

I did read the thread, but I've always just see the trade in values for the bundle, and I've only read that you can use old dvd cases for the bundles...

Anways, I guess I'll start flipping some games tomorrow.
Pinebarrens posted that it was around $17 though...hmm.
The $17 price is for Darkness AFTER the two discounts are applied. So, $26.99 -> $17 or so -> $32 Credit. The Bigs is similar. Hope that helps.

Did 2 more HoV flips today...one to the same GR, same clerk as the first flip ;) and had GC match for the other. So I've converted 3 used HoVs into new copies of Endless Ocean, Professor Layton, and Geometry Wars Galaxies (DS). Happy.

Probably time for me to rein it in, as there's a limit to my available funds...
I got a Nintendo Ds Lite Cobalt/Black they had 2 at a local GR ^_^ Whoo hoo for me. Gonna Resell on ebay
I had no idea this was rare? Is it? My local Gamestops have plenty of them behind the counter in the glass case.
I had no idea this was rare? Is it? My local Gamestops have plenty of them behind the counter in the glass case.
Out of stock everywhere my friend. GREAT way to convert GR/BB credit to cash. They ebay for ~$160+shipping.

I was trying to print out Tony Hawk cover & the chick in Staples wouldn't do it...Said its illegal...I've printed things out before & had no problems...Is it illegal?
I was trying to print out Tony Hawk cover & the chick in Staples wouldn't do it...Said its illegal...I've printed things out before & had no problems...Is it illegal?
No. Go back in and tell her she's stupid.

Yeah i tried explaining to her, actually a pretty long argument...She said that she can't print anything with a bar code? I told her i own the game, i just want a freaken cover for it...She said that she cant do it...I told her i'll just come back tomorrow & the she said i'll be here tomorrow..WTF?

Yeah, I find it hilarious some of my experiences at Blockbuster. The first person I traded to, I was able to get all the credit onto a gift card. The second time I traded, they told me I can't do that and I have to put it in store credit. The third person said it was no problem at all (with the manager close by), and the fourth time the woman said I can't and the person should never have done it, with only a senior worker nearby agreeing.

So which is it? lol, not that it really matters, since I'm spending all the credit on (hopefully) Lost Odyssey. Let me know if you guys see it in the stores this week! :D

I'm new BB/Gamerush Flipper.

Since there's only BBs in my area, i'm forced to do BB flips.

First flip today, I netted 110$ BB gift card(for future use)

Because I'm extra paranoid, I wanted to spread my flips throughout several BBs in the area.

Couple quick questions:

1) My BB account was opened on 2/10/08. Would this draw a red flag to any BB employees?

2)I'm maxing out on 2 copies of HOV, or darkness per trade. I feel any more will draw attention to the clerk.

3) Flipping to managers vs normal employees.... does it make a difference?

4) How long grace period should you give yourself between store flips?

5)Can BBs track whether you have trading accounts with other BBs? I wanted to open multiple trading accounts to spread my trades without, however, didn't want to draw a red flag.

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Confirmed $30 trade in value for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (1st / AO Edition).

I just scanned the cover art so you guys can grab some copies from wherever, print out the cover and get $30 for it. The difference is the UPC on the back as opposed to other versions- perfect to combine with the 25% coupon at GameStop this week. One rule: no sharing with vgmben since he didn't share with us. PM me for link.

All of your questions are very very and I mean VERY YMMV. You just have to try shit out and test out each employee, store, and get a feel for how nice, rude, or pleasant they are with you. It is always a good idea to spread your kunais around though. NO, they can't track your other trades to other stores.

How much is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas at Gamestop? I'm assuming this is for xbox right?

I'm confused, I've never heard of Gamerush and my blockbusters I've ever been to rent games, never thought they ever took games as a trade-in? Occasionally they sell games too but they told me not until like a year they've been released lol

$19.99 used it looks like from what the website says. $$$ for a last gen game that wasn't rare or limited print, almost as bad as Halo 2!
