Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

I was able to trade-in some copies of Duke Nukem at Liberty, MO and Independence,MO stores at the $17 price.

At one store some guy came in with what looked like four copies of Duke Nukem, but they turned him down because I guess he was banned in the computer to trade any more copies.. I figured after I had traded in some copies of KA a few weeks ago that I'd be banned, but luckily I was good to go. :D

Most of the stock at Independence stores was bottom of the barrel for flipping and a lot of games that had been there since the sale started (no restocking apparently). Took what I could find since I figure after a few weeks it's fair game at this point and flipped it at Bestbuy (no ban for me). Liberty has decent stock, and I know Blue Springs (last time I was out for KA stuff) had a decent selection.

I've been waiting to get access to post replies on CAG, so I can finally say thanks to everyone for posting this information. :applause: THANK YOU!
 
what would you do with bulletstorm cheapest, my bbv has like 10 of those left. They have tons of stuff left but im only grabbing what I know I can at least get 10 for.

weird story, my bbv guy went off talking to me about everything they have been doing. apparently him and his manager go to cag and they were cool with me trading in 6 dnf's today and i did get some movies, but the dude started telling me how they were going to walmart and buying $8500 worth of movies and flipping it to the store themselves and how his manager made $1500 last month flipping to his own store but stl was a test area and one store was $600 short in the trade in cash so they shut it down recently. but wow, i thought i was doing stuff and this guy was flipping like mad, no wonder he could give a shit when i come in with lists looking for flippable games and lil tiv flips to bbv like rfa, brink n now dnf. the kid even said when i walked in again to flip more that he thought the games in the back were mine and asked where i got them and i told him 5@bb, lol. he said he was busy at work and didnt check cag...im surprised he doesnt steal all the flips in the store, but they are cool. runonwalloftext
 
oh yeah lol and i ended with like 120 in bbv cred and the girl at the register was like whoa iv never seen that much credit thats crazy... if she only saw my amazon/bb credit ;)

I was actually going to re-buy Bulletstorm to play.:razz:

Either way, I predict that DNF will have a $0 value in the system within a week, just like KA did after people went way the fuck overboard with that flip.:whistle2:#

Nah, they'll probably just Brink it down to the $4 range and then eventually drop the sale price in-store to $9.99. That's what I'm expecting...
 
^ :lol: at "Brink it down". I thought that was a flip from the past (don't think I ever did it myself though) and was surprised to see it in BBV for $9.99. I almost picked that up as one of my 5 tonight - glad I didn't given the BBY sale (it is $5 new today). But even for $5 new I don't think I want it...


So, anyway, my story for tonight:

Well, I picked up my DNF and decided to be super extra ultra risky so I traded one 360 copy and one PS3 copy. That got me in trouble (and temp banned) a couple years ago with Beowulf or some such stupid game, but I figured what the hell.

And this store actually had some decent stuff to buy. I picked up Dead Space 2 PS3, Lord of the Rings Conquest PS3, Two Worlds II PS3, Raving Rabbids Travel In Time Wii, and Resistance 2.

They couldn't find Resistance 2 and realized it was a rental (though it had the $14.99 tag on it). So they converted it to used right then and there and let me get it. The only one mislabeled was the Rabbids game (marked $19.99). LotR Conquest I would have completely passed up if not for my iPhone. The game is a pre-trophy game and I already played it on the 360. But, lo and behold it is somewhat rare on the PS3 so it was worth grabbing.

I passed up NFS Shift 2 Unleashed, Bulletstorm (many copies), Diddy King Racing DS, and several other games. I felt a little bad dumping 2 DNF's on them as they had 4-5 of each system already on the racks.

So I left with the 5 games and my $5 gift card and $4 left over on my account. Who knows, I may never use it and I'll probably forget about it since this store is kind of far away. Tomorrow I'll probably trade just 1 DNF into my local store - I need to be more careful there. They may not have anything to buy but I can use the credit there eventually.
 
io I thought lotr conquest was ok, but stupid EA turned off the servers so plat is impossible, ugh.
it does have some trophies tho, if im thinking of the right game. i got all offline trophies.
i liked those starwars battlefront games, so its similar to that... and two worlds 2 was pretty fun ;)

Neither of the BBV's I went to yesterday could get it to ring up correctly. Kudos to the employees for knowing about the promos, though - but 15-20 minutes of dinking around for a $5 GC approaches my limit...

I don't know what the heck I'm going to do with those gift box/thing/whatevers...any ideas??? :idea:

No - they look like an old record sleeve with an insert that holds 5 CD/DVDs. I felt bad taking it (they ring up at 2.50 each), but they seemed so happy to be giving me one I couldn't say no.

Oh. The ones I got had a snowman on the outside and just looked like the old large popcorn cardboard boxes. The "sleeve" is an insert in mine that can easily be taken out.

Yeah, I was thinking of Battle for Middle Earth II (which may not even be out for PS3). I haven't actually played LOTR Conquest and I do have it for PS3 already. So I'm selling this used one (it gets more than you'd think). But LOTR Conquest is one of the many games on my backlog...

I just told them to keep the box ;). It seems it didn't ring up correctly for me either. It charged $5 (each) for both the box and the gift card. So they just credited $10 back manually.

Not as good a profit, but, you could still get them for $10 at Walmart. I actually bought extras at BB yesterday to "replace" the ones I bought at Walmart last week. Returned $5 BB copies with the $10 WM receipts.
 
I went to my bbv to do one more 5/30 deal. My bbv is officially out of flips and there won't be more comming anytime soon as the only transfers they have done latley have been copys of gears of war 3. At least I got as much out of this great deal as I could

Same with the 3 BBVs near me. I was actually going down to $5 BB base TIVs just to burn up KA credit. I could only put together 4 sets of 5 this week. Oh how I wish they were giving the $5 GCs when this deal first started. I would have like $100 in BBV GCs right now.

I keep going to the 3 BBVs around my house (randomly) and it finally paid off today. I snagged five games, signed up for the Combo Pass, got my $10 - then flipped the games. I doubled my money. Not as good as when I was getting 3x my $ but I had already flipped the other games they had and I'm trying to stay under the radar as long as possible!!! Anyway, the five I grabbed were - PS3: Splatterhouse, Tron, Star Wars FUII 360: Mindjack & Wii: Madden 11.

Hawaii Boy should be nominated for a CAG award next year! :applause:

Crap, I misunderstood this deal. I know you can mix and match games and movies for this sale, but I thought the additional GC only came if you actually bought 5 movies.

Damn, my nephew wants a Wii football game for Christmas. I'd be a hero if I could snag one of those. I was so busy with Best Buy and Target today I forgot to go to my local store to trade in a Duke. Though I'm thinking maybe I saw that at the store I went to yesterday but it was tagged so high (like $30) that I didn't think it would be that far mismarked. Good call on signing up for the pass - I might just do that tomorrow as well and hopefully I can snag some stuff for the $10 GC. I can always get movies I guess - though the selection seems still to be mostly stuff I already got for $4 (or even $1 in some cases) each at that summer sale.

I did notice that they bumped up the max value on the new movie deal to $19.99 (from $12.99). I don't know if that is system-wide or just this one store (or if HB mentioned it already) but just in case maybe there's deals to be had there.
 
@ bgame2 - I'm still not sure if it actually does but here's how I did it:

Walked up to counter w/ my 5 games and CASH in hand. (Me asking worker) "So, if I sign up for the Combo Pass, I can get $10 in gift cards?" (Worker) "Probably."

And that's all it took!!

Combo pass is no longer half price ($7.49) for the first month. It's $14.99 since they started the giftcard offer

Grabbed my two $5 Dukes I ordered for in-store pickup from BBY (with credit I got for like 1/4th the cost due to previous BBV trades, lol).

~$34 of credit. I snagged:

MindJack
SvR2011
Goldeneye
Dead Rising 2
Dead Space 2

Not the best flips; but basically all my BBV has left. So long as values hold tomorrow at GS, I should snag a good ~$55 of credit.

I still have $5 on my account and a $5 GC. Might just drop another $10 out of pocket if it'll bump up my credit significantly. Either way, I need to find one game of my own so my games are divisible by 3 ;p

you could take the email in and they might give it to you but they stopped that offer once the gift card deal started on thursday. another possibility is some stores may not know it stopped so you could get lucky that way.

That's my understanding (but Hawaii Boy knows best).

(2) $5 GC for 5 @ $30

(1) $5 GC for 3 @ 20

Since your up HB I had a question that no one seems to know the answer to, even my local DM.

1 store shut down in my area that I had credit in. That store rolled it's customers to another close by store, but my credit didn't go with it. I contacted the store manager and DM and they said that they don't know what to do and will get back with me. Been a week now and heard nothing.

I'm worried since another close by store that I have credit on is shutting down also. Do you know the procedure or can I ask to get a GC in the amount of credit I have before the store closes to make sure my credit doesn't end up in limbo?

Hmm dunno if it was asked before, but can you use store credit to buy GCs since they are selling them again? I think it was asked a while ago and got a no, but forget if my memory is right lol

I don't know if the employee's at your store will know how to do this. You might try doing it Monday when the manager will be there.

You get a $5 giftcard on ANY pre viewed bundle OR new retail bundle. Only combo pass members get a $10 giftcard when purchasing a bundle this weekend.

Thanks HB. I'm actually a CP member. I hate netflix now. The stuff they have available for streaming is poor. I'd rather be able to browse BB's movies and have my 5 year old burn some energy by walking through the isles.

Thanks for the info. Speaking of Duke Nukem, I got a pick up reminder from BB this morning about 2 copies I never picked up from the DOTD. How did I forget about these? I passed that BB 4 times since Thursday. It's on the other side of town where I pick up my daughter from school M-F. I was about to make the drive since the BBV TIV is likely to drop by Monday, but then a light bulb went off over my head. Pick up 2 from Walmart for $20, trade in to BBV today, pick up BB copies Monday and return to Walmart. Before I left for WM an even brighter light bulb shined. Get the 2 copies from GS along with a third game the kids and/or I can play (rent) with the B2G1, pick up BB copies next week, and sit on them until we are done with the "rental" then return all to GS. Works even better with the GS extended holiday return window.
