I think we just need to get a Marvel thread going.. Didn't we have one before? Been a while, I can't remember.
That Reign was a letdown, for the first issue anyway.. I hope it gets better. Unfortunately, I'm sure the artwork won't. It kept getting compared to Dark Knight Returns in previews and I just don't see it quality-wise.

You got to read Reign? The comic shop I go to had to send them back because of a mistake (Outline of Parker's package). Hmm.

Aha, yeah, I do remember that panel..
Could be because I got it like an hour after my local store opened on release day, but I don't think they've sent them back over here. I've got a friend who bought it as well.
Can I just say this was an awesome week comic-wise, especially for a week with no Civil War stuff? Seriously, there was some quality stuff I ended up reading.
Both X-23 and New X-Men were great. I seriously am starting to love X-23 as a character. At first, especially when she was on Evolution, I hated her. But I'm really growing to love her. The artwork in the X-23 mini-series that started yesterday was amazing. Like, it may be some of the best artwork I've ever seen. I can't wait for more of the series just to see some more of the artwork. And I love that New X-Men was another issue that dealt more with the social aspects of the team. I love the fights, but these characters in it are great. Hellion is another of the characters who I've grown to love.
But I think my book of the week is EASILY JLofA4. At first, I really was disappointed by the series. The big three were sitting in a cave, looking at pictures, while B-listers and C-listers ran around doing shit. Well, it's all made up for by 4.
The reveal of who has been controlling all the villains was just jaw-dropping. When I saw the fist that punched Red Tornado out, I jokingly said to myself "What if it's ing Grundy?" and then I turn the next page, and not only is it good ol' Solomon Grundy, but he's apparently learned to speak beyond "Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday". I mean, that was beyond unexpected to me. I only recently read The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, and I loved Grundy in those, so this was awesome. Plus I really love the dynamics between Black Canary, Roy...I mean Red Arrow, and Hal. They're so awesome. I can't wait to see how they interact with Bats, Supes and Wonder Woman when they get there.
Easily my favorite book this week.
X-Factor was pretty damn awesome too. Plus I loved their "Previously on X-Factor" page this week. X-Factor is definitely one of my top X-books anymore. Though like I said before, I personally love almost all the X-books I read anymore (Astonishing, New, Adjectiveless, Uncanny, Factor...There's probably some more I read).
I felt like X-Factor's previously on... page was channeling Deadpool. It was fun.
From last week, I absolutely loved Detective Comics. It was hilarious, it had a great story for a 1 shot issue, and it even had a christmas theme. Paul Dini does a brilliant job with Joker.
As far as Reign goes, it seems to be just sitting on shelves but (and maybe I'm overly optimistic here) I'm thinking it might end up being one of those series that as issues 2 and 3 hit people realize that its worth reading and everyone will scramble to get issue one. I think people just don't want to give it a chance right now cause there's so much stuff hitting right now. I guess maybe I just want it to be good because it seems interesting and like there's a lot of potential here for something fun.

Definitely loved it.
All I even picked up of this week's releases were Wolverine 49 and Bullet Points 2. I can't bring myself to just pick up all the mags out there.. and I'm definitely not a DC man, though I try to keep up with Supes and Batman. Generally if I get hooked on a series it's by pure accident, minus the obvious ones like Wolverine and Amazing Spider-man, which have been musts for me for a long time.
I bought a lot of stuff today and last week, but can I just say that this week's Nextwave may have been the single most crack-inspired issue of anything ever? The endless 2 page spreads of Nextwave fighting the most RANDOM things ever was genius. It's sad to think next issue is the last.
Wow. I think it's safe to say Brian K. Vaughn is one of my favorite writers at this point. I can't think of anything of his I've read that I haven't instantly loved. First there was Runaways, which I'm gonna be really sad to see him go on, but I expect Whedon will do great on it. Then I started reading Y, which is great stuff. And today I started reading Ex Machina and that's also amazingly great. I wonder what Vaughn's gonna be doing now since he's leaving Runaways in two more issues, and Y is going to be ending in a few months. I can't remember if I read anything about what his next project is gonna be. All I know is I'm so gonna be reading it.
CW #6 = Still waiting for shit to happen. At least Amazing Spidey was good.
As far as brave New world goes...
Martian Manhunter - Confusing, not sure where its going, still reading because it makes you curious
Trials Of Shazam - I like shazam. I'd be picking it up if it was crap..which its not
Omac - Some issues are good, others have no point in existing
Atom - Sorry...really havent read it. I'm getting my size changing fix from Kirkmans Iredeemable Ant Man
Creeper - Dont care, didnt read
Uncle Sam - Just waiting for a few more issues before I read them in a row
On a side note- If you at all like DC... buy Justice Society of America... one of the best first issues ive ever read, and the sneak peek at the rest of the year has me more excited than anything else out there

I can vouch! Read a buddy's copy and I think I'll be picking it up from here on out.
Sorry to barge in like this but can anyone recommend some good graphic novels? I just picked up the last few issues of Justice and it made me want to read something good.
I want to check out Marvel Zombies and the New Avengers, anything else out there worth checking out?

100 Bullets. If I had the money I would pick up all the trade paperbacks released.
I knew Penance was Speedball, but that whole scene when he put the new costume on was great, as was his explanation of everything in the suit to his mom.
I can't wait till next week when Ellis' run on Thunderbolts starts to see some more of that character.
100 Bullets. If I had the money I would pick up all the trade paperbacks released.
Kingdom Come.
Preacher Vol. 1-9
Superman: Red Son
100 Bullets was great at the start, but lately I have had a hard time getting into the story. I don't want to stop to see how it goes, but it has significantly declined in my eyes.
I want to check out Marvel Zombies and the New Avengers, anything else out there worth checking out?
New Avengers is good, Marvel Zombies is bad. Marvel only?
Superman: Birthright was really good, I thought. Kind of a retelling of his origin, but not from when he grew up.. It tells about some things he did after he was out of school as a freelancer, and then his starting out in Metropolis.

No, not just Marvel. I just pick up whatever seems to be worth reading.
I liked Wanted, 30 Days of Night, Y: Last Man and Dead Walking. Not really big on the main stream stuff but I checked out the first few issues of New Avengers a few months and thought it was interesting. I'm gonna stop by Borders today and pick some stuff out...so please keep the recommends coming! Thanks!

If you haven't read it, I really recommend Ex Machina, especially since you liked Y. It's written by the same author, Brian K. Vaughn. His other series, Runaways, is pretty damn awesome too. It's in Marvel and it takes place in 616, but you never really feel like it invades the story and takes it over. I'd highly recommend checking both series out.
I sat down and read Civil War 6 (my store got only 1 copy) and all I can say is WOW! Another great issue was All Star Superman. Morrison was born to write Supes. And it all seems to me that Frank Quitely is the only man who can bring Morrison's offbeat ideas to life.
I'm hoping to catch up on my other reads as well, Justice League of America, Justice, and 52.
I really wish Bill Willingham could have gotten his hands on Peter Pan for Fables. Here's part of his interview with IGN:
"In that topsy-turvy version, Pan was going to be the villain. I mean, come on, a guy who comes and steals people's kids? So maybe Hook wasn't the pirate Pan claims him to be. Hook was always getting on his ship and sailing to Never Never Land to rescue the children. He would have been a good guy"
He was originally planning on Peter Pan being the Adversary. In that version of Fables, Bluebeard was actually Hook and that's why if you look in issue 2, Bluebeard's desk has a hook on it.
In an update to the shipping dates of their January/February titles at their website, Marvel has officially moved the in-store date of Civil War #7 to February 21st, 2007. The new date is a move from the previously announced in-store date of Janaury 31st, 2007.
The solicitation for issue #7 reads:
COVER BY: STEVE MCNIVEN
WRITER: MARK MILLAR
PENCILS: STEVE MCNIVEN
INKS: DEXTER VINES
COLORED BY: MORRY HOLLOWELL
LETTERED BY: CHRIS ELIOPOULOS
THE STORY:
It all ends here! The startling battle that will determine the future of the Marvel Universe!
32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$2.99
PRICE: 2.99
IN STORES: 2007-02-21
It's unknown at this time if Civil War #7's delay will result in other titles being pushed back as well. Previously, both Amazing Spider-Man #538 and Fantastic Four #543 were due to be released on January 31st along with #7, while Captain America #25, which is set after the conclusion of Civil War is now slated to be in stores on March 7th. Currently, Civil War Front Line is scheduled to be in stores on February 21st as well, but that is the issue's originally solicited in-store date.
Yeah, that was the plan, with 7 being released 1/31. But I guess them adding more pages to CW7 without changing the price has made them have to push it back again. Then again, I expected all along 7 wasn't gonna come out 1/31, so I'm not too disappointed from this, only that it might push all the tie-ins back again including the post-Civil War stuff, like Captain America.
Believe me, I wasnt surprised in the least that it would be delayed more (why have the #1 and #2 comic in one month when you could have #1 two months in a row).
I feel like I'm tech support for Dell... I dont get paid by them, but I have to deal with all thier ups.
That being said...
I went and read Frontline 10 finaly... that suit is hardcore.
What is a few good marvel TPB's to get from buy.com with google checkout?
Im looking into X-Men Deadly genesis but other suggestions please.
Deadly Genesis is a great idea, Marvel Zombies would be a good choice as well. I'm not sure what crossovers you've read recently but Avengers Disassembled was pretty good. House of M has a really fun build up to a pretty cool all out battle at the end. E is for Extinction was a great New X-men storyline, if you haven't read it yet, I don't want to spoil it but its pretty massive. Another good storyline for the New X-men line was Planet X. Great twists and turns and definetly worth reading if you're a Magneto fan.
Apparently Spider-man Reign #1 has gone up to $10-$20 on ebay. The only information I could find was that it hasn't been officially recalled but Marvel is accepting returns on it and has said the "little peter" panel was printing error so you can pretty much assume the second printing won't have that in it.
I still have at least 10 copies...of both covers... left on the shelves.
We decided to not send them back.. at all. We've sold most of them, and even though its slightly misplaced in a spidey comic, we dont like the idea of censoring comics.

You read any of Runaways? It's probably one of my favorite comics at Marvel and they have extremely nice hardcover trades that are out.
As for this week's comics, I absolutely loved Thunderbolts. It's a change of pace and everything from when Zemo was in charge, but I think it'll definitely prove interesting with Norman Osborne running the team. Runaways was pretty damn good this week also. New X-Men continues to prove to be one of my favorite X-titles, although I love pretty much all four of the major ones (Astonishing, New, Adjectiveless and Uncanny). Hellion is by far becoming my favorite character in New, although I have a fondness for X-23/Laura. 52 was pretty good this week, since I prefer the space story over some of the others. I'm really glad this horrid Batman arc is over. Grotesk was cool at first but it eventually grew stupid. I picked JSA up, but maybe I should find issue 1 first. It was good but didn't blow me away since everyone said it was so great.

Somedays I wonder about DC's choices...Yet again a major reveal happens in 52....And they put the answer on the cover. This is at least the third time they've done it and I wonder why they would choose to spoil the issue right on the cover. Plus they did it on Manhunter (I didn't read it but I heard about it) last issue with Blue Beetle.
Bought all of the digest editions of Runaways.
If you like Vaughn check out Pride of Baghdad...my favorite comic of 2006. Y the Last Man and The Hood. As far as other trades:
Sandman
Spider-man Kraven's Last Hunt
X-men Dark Phoenix, God Loves Man Kills, Mutant Massacre, and Fall of the Mutants.
Preacher
Fables
Batman Year One, Year Two, Hush, Long Halloween, Lonely Place of Dying
Walking Dead
Infinite Crisis
Captain America Winter Soldier
Teen Titans Future is Now
Those are just some of my favorites. Karsh, I really really like JSA!!! it's like a DC mid 80's- early 90's fanboy's wetdream come true! The X-titles used to be some of my favorites, but the only ones I enjoy anymore are Cable and Deadpool, Astonishing, and X-factor. Althouh, I am never disappointed in New X-men and Exiles recently.

To me, it wasnt the reveal, but the how. That issue kicked all sorts of ass. Me and my employee were decoding that paragraph for the better half of Wed. afternoon.
Also, if you add up the main barcode numbers (not the 0XX11 part) it equals 52.

You NEED issue 1. So much set up in one issue...I can see why #2 on its own would'nt blow you away. Check Borders/Barnes and Noble for stuff from a month or two ago.

I've wanted to check out Pride of Baghdad but I just haven't had the chance yet. Like I've mentioned before, I've come to love BKV. He's just such a great writer. Y: The Last Man went from something I never heard of to probably one of my top five comics out there. He just writes so naturally that it's awesome. I'd definitely second his suggestions of Sandman, Fables, Batman: Hush, Batman The Long Halloween and Captain America. I recently read Sandman and it blew me so away that I immediately started picking up Gaiman's actual books. And Fables is just so great.
I'm in love with Adjectiveless X-Men for some reason. I completely agree that C&D, Astonishing and X-Factor are pretty much better, but there's just something about Rogue's team I like. I really want them to keep Lady Mastermind and Omega Sentinel on the team. They add a dynamic that is needed. Sure Mystique and Sabretooth are there and add into that dynamic of former villains, but LM really does feel like she should be on the other side so having her on the team seems that much cooler. I also love New X-Men. I'm surprised not many other people here seem to read it. The teams is great and I love that the authors really have no qualms with killing people off. Ever since Decimation I've loved the title, and it doesn't hurt that I've come to love X-23. I didn't like her originally, but she's really grown on me as she's much more than just Wolverine's clone with breasts. I just started picking up Exiles with Claremont's run since Psylocke has always been one of my favorite mutants. I almost wanna check out some of the stuff before since it appears Claremont is going to still be building from it.

14 (18 w/ WWIII) more issues left!
I'll definitely agree with you on that. The reveal wasn't as large as the how, but it still seemed weird to smack that character right on the cover. But it definitely was an amazing issue. Probably one of my favorites. I can't wait to see how some of these stories end, although I figure Charlie and Renee's story should end with
Charlie dying and Renee taking over the mantle of the Question.
I wasn't sure of 52 at the start as I didn't know much about DC, but it's slowly turned into another of my favorites. WWIII should be awesome.

After picking up issue 1, I can totally see why. I may not know who a lot of these characters are, but it's definitely an amazing story. JLofA and JSofA are definitely staying on my buy list as I try to cut some comics out.
On a related note, my Borders Express was going out of business and everything was 40% off so I ended up picking up Identity Crisis and Kingdom Come. Since it appears JSofA is going to tie-in to KC, I figure I should read it. I also picked up Superman Red Son from my local store and that may single-handedly be the coolest graphic novel I've ever read. I loved how they tied so many things in with this alternate universe. From all the Green Lanterns to Batman to Brainiac to Wonder Woman to Brainiac, it was pure awesomeness. That proved to me that Mark Millar is a genius. I wanna find some more Superman stories now to read.

Nice! I had no idea there was a comic base of people here at CAG.
Anyway.. Civil War has been awesome IMO, and I'm very happy with the exposure it's given Frank as of late, even enough to spark a new second ongoing.. makes me reminisce back to the days of Punisher, War Journal and War Zone!
Anyway.. the final battle is set to happen, and how convenient was it that JUST before the big showdown, Cap and Frank have a spat, causing Pun to be out of the picture?
Well... the thing is this: That 'spat' was a plot device. I can't give away any more info, but I'm highly excited to see the epilogue of Civil War.
