The Darkness - Gen Discussion & Info
Isn't your monitor displaying the colors and stuff messed up though?
No, it's actually not. Playing my Xbox 360 on it through VGA = perfect. But through HDMI it's weird.
The visuals in the PS3 version of the Subway does not even compare and come close to this. The lightings in this screenshot is way much more brighter. Can someone confirm if that's how it looks in the 360?

that's how it looks on my PS3. def your monitor.

I noticed you said you were playing in 1080p-- people are reporting that it looks much worse in 1080p. try 720p

I'm thinking of exchanging my copy for the 360 version...but I'm already like 3 hours in.
Damn you game nerds..I never noticed the AA in the PS3 version until I started looking for it
I didn't notice it much until the "night vision" effect kicked in...then it's really obvious.

Thats what I was going to say, I'm really noticing it in the dark.

Eh, still not enough for me to get all up in arms about the PS3 version though. And my subway does look like that pic from teamxbox.

yeah, it's not "poke your eyes out PS1 block people" bad.

this game is so amazing in so many other ways that I'm not thinking about the technical side at all.

Probably one of the best scripted and voice acted games out there. I'm not cringing at all, like I usually do listening to pretty much all games :)

True that, I pick every option talking to people just to hear the voices.

Eh...guess my monitor can't support HDMI as well as I thought it was even though it is HDCP compatible. Oh well...off to get X360!
I'm supposed to believe now that i've warped into the past, into the civil war era? or is it the future? the underworld? And I'm living multiple lives because of the Darkness?
... continue playing, and you'll see that it's not
the Civil War (!?). Although I think you mean WWII. Even so, it's not that, either.

I take it you haven't read the comic... even then, these are some cool sequences.

Do you have HDMI RBG set to FULL or LIMITED under 'display settings'?

If it's too dark on FULL, even with contrast and brightness up, then your TV doesn't support it, and you should put it back on LIMITED.
Should fix whatever black crush you're getting (ie. too dark).

yeah its
WWI
Anyone know how many hearts I have to eat until I get the tenticles thing at level 2?
I got it at I wanna say 90 hearts.
damn thats a lot, Im in NYC fighting the cops who ran the truck into the restaurant and I only have like 25
That's when I got to level 2 :p

What happens when you get to level 2 exactly?

You just get more lasting power in the light-- so you can use creeping dark more in lit areas. I'm assuming that other powers rank up a bit more too-- atleast the Demon arm power seems to level up like that-- at first you can't do much with it, but after a few levels you can impale guys and throw cars around.

I've gotten mine up to the "impale guys" level, and thats pretty fun--- Gunplay is keeping me hooked-- Lovin' these executions even though that means I die quite a bit more due to running in.

Now, if anyone knows this--- How the hell do you take down the helicopters? There are achievements out there for doing so, but last I checked Jackie doesn't have any rocket launchers.. (as of yet.)

I think you have to hurl cars at the helicopters with The Darkness' tendril.

I haven't tried it, though.
looks like you get the demon arm just for getting to the second chapter, it has nothing to do with the number of hearts.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's when you devour a bosses heart that you get the special powers. I know that's how you get the Black Hole.

This game is bad ass, although from the reviews they said that the difficulty was pretty easy so I decided to play it on Hard and fuck its hard.

im sittin on jenny's couch right now. so far this game is excellent. IMO its an "A" level game and at $50 this week i think a definite worthy purchase.
played a match of ctf. has a prey/unreal twitchiness to it, not a fan. though the darkling switching is cool.
edit - had 5 players join the match in progress, no lag, no slowdown.

Very cool story elements thus far. The ammo seems to be very limited, at least on Medium, which really encourages use of the Darkness powers. I love just sneaking around with the snake creature and getting kills that way.

Can't get the aiming quite right yet, though. The laser pointer seems to jump erratically ever so slightly when I'm going for headshots like it's trying to auto-aim, but I turned that off already. Jackie moves kinda slow, too.
I was thinking about this game but it's just too creepy potental.
Hell yeah, it is. Just for background, I got past the first level in Condemened and I haven't put it in since. I couldn't get two minutes into the FEAR demo, either since I kept thinking that damn girl would be at the bottom of the ladder.

Imagine my shock then as I heard the damn Darkness voice come out from the rear surrounds the first time. I thought to myself, "Shit, another game I won't be able to play." You get used to it, though, and you're rewarded with a great experience (at least thus far).

FEAR and GoW were awsome even though there was parts that bothered me. I hate spiders or things with lots of legs or squid like stuff so I ain't havin it. I tried the AREA51 blacksite demo and thought it was good but there's just no way in hell I'm buying it. Same will probably go for this game too unfortunately.

FEAR scared the living shit out of me, the last 30 mins of that game on the last level was probably the most I have ever sweated, more than when I play sports. Condemened I got about halfway through to the Museum place where the sculptures came alive and I said fuck its not worth it, though I still have it I want to beat it. This game doesnt scare me at all the only thing is the voice of the darkness is kind of wierd/ creepy.

I am hoping that your are between the age of 7 and 9.

Ah, just finished the game a bit earlier today. Wow, great stuff. Already ready to go through on hard mode now.

Oh and I definitely love games like this, FEAR, Condemned and etc. And that last part in FEAR definitely was a rush hah. Not knowing what's going to come at you in these games is exciting

:puke: I'm done with this game. the technical problems that weren't so bad in NYC are extremely annoying in the 2nd chapter.

I like a difficult game, but when I can't see anything because of a weak draw distance, when the enemies respawn and constantly get head shots off, when the aiming is spotty and collision even spottier, I give up. the gun-play just sucks all around. or maybe I just suck at this game :)

Yea, I really didn't like the second part of the game because of the weak draw distance...but I just sucked it up and got through it.

It's official...the Xbox 360 version is WAY superior than the PS3 version in terms of graphics and controls. The graphics are cleaner and smoother, the colors are brighter, the controls are tighter. It wasn't my monitor after all with the PS3 version lacking in the graphics. Xbox 360 version has no jaggies, PS3 = jaggies galore. Go with the Xbox 360 version guys.

I agree with Riceboi. I didn't want take a chance with opening the game and regretting it so I went and rented the PS3 version just to see first hand. Shortly after I returned the PS3 version and picked it up for the 360. The game is jaggy but not PS2 bad but it definately keeps you from fully enjoying the atmosphere which this game has in spades. The lighting is also very inconsistant in the PS3 version. I don't know what it is but if you're in a dark alley with all the lights shot out it should be...you know....dark? Frame rate was solid for a PS3 game but not quite like Resistance because it did have a few stutters in it. Controls were good on the sixaxxis so I can't complain there. I was definately bummed because I really wanted to add a new title to my small PS3 library. I guess I'll have to wait for Sigma next week. BTW my setup is a Samsung LNT4661F 46" 1080P LCD with both my PS3 and Elite hooked up through HDMI.

Thanks, Pyro. That was EXTREMELY helpful. I too wanted to get the PS3 version, but I suppose now I'll shoot for the X360 implementation.

if decide to revisit this game, i'm getting the 360 version for sure.

looks like I'm the only who thinks the action sucks. otherwise, this is game is a great accomplishment as far as atmosphere, story, and dialog go.

This game and Riddick are anti-action FPS. A lot of detective work with gunplay peppered in, here and there.

I've always liked that.

Call of Cthulhu is another FPS that is similar to these two.

What about me? Didn't I help?

whats wrong with it? i turned up the sensitivity a little and left on auto aim. i have no problems
whats wrong with it? i turned up the sensitivity a little and left on auto aim. i have no problems
Maybe it's the hit detection, but sometimes when I aim for a headshot, it doesn't seem to register. Other times, when I'm making a smooth motion towards a player's head, once it gets anywhere near him, it'll jump and seem to center itself like it's auto-aiming, but I have that all the way off.

It just feels off. But then I've been playing R6Vegas a bit, so I'm used to the aiming speed and sensitivity there.

Riddick was definitely anti-action, objective based with some detective work and interesting situations. This is more go from point A to point B, then the whole second chapter is action, not sure about the rest.

guess I'll hold out for the Riddick remake. that's going to be amazing.

Question about how much further I have to go

I just
Did the part where I chased after the police cop, but he escaped on the helicopter
