The "Is This Game Rare?" Thread
I know you guys just said LE versions of games tend to gain value, but are there any examples that haven't?

I ask because I have two copies of the GTAIV Special Edition for PS3 which have languished on my TL. I have $31.79 invested in each and I'd hate to be forced to lose money on either.

I also have a black label Metal Gear Solid for the PS1. The disc(s) don't LOOK resurfaced and it's minty. But I wonder if the value of it has dropped just like the value on FFVII did a bit.
Actually, I believe that most special editions don't really hold their value well compared to their original price. GTAIV and Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway special editions both seem to have faltered. None of the Halo 3 special editions are really worth anything.

Considering how popular and hype GTAIV was, I wouldn't bet on the special editions being worth much since they likely overproduced them.
Will Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots LE be rare later? I have 6 additional sealed copies of the game, along with the art book and saga dvd volume 2 stored in a box somewhere in the garage.
Since it was a timed exclusive, there's always the chance that it will gain value but since it's the last title in the main series, it's hard to say. If the Metal Gear moniker is still used, than it will likely be worth a fair amount of money 5-10 years down the road.

Thanks. I kind of figured it'd be worthless, but it never hurts to ask. However, every offer I've received for either of them has been (insert generic game I have ZERO interest in HERE) or (insert el cheapo game that's under $10 used @ GS now HERE) or in the case of the local game shop the really insulting offer of $12 for something initially worth $90.

If I had made it to the Blockbuster I bought them from before the end of the 30 day return period, I would've gladly just returned them. I expected a bit more interest in them and offers like Ghostbuster or InFamous for a SE.

I wouldn't be worried about losing out on your $30 investment, I'd imagine it'll stay at a price for a while where you'll at least be able to make your money back, I just wouldn't count on it going up in price over the years a whole lot. Right now the game fetches about $50 shipped on ebay(that could change soon though due to what I'd imagine will be an influx of flippers selling their $25 gamecrazy copies, but the PS3 one was YMMV so you might not be affected so much).

The problem you might be having with finding a trade buddy is because, well, damn near everyone has played GTA IV by now. From my experience people that like to trade care about playing WAY more than owning, and really aren't too interested in these special edition sets when they probably don't intend to keep it.

Being the entrepreneur that I am I picked up 3 or 4 boxed copies of Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection after reading that they were VERY limited edition and were going to be sold out. After forgetting about them and now rediscovering them I was wondering if I should sell these for a loss or hold onto them hoping they will become rare. Thanks
if the game is still around it wont gain any value other than its MSRP. if youre thinking about investing, i would always wait until you can find them cheap somewhere else because youll be more comfortable holding onto them for longer than you would expect.

if you are thinking of unloading them soon then you shouldnt be investing on games at all then.

Leave them sealed and give the collection time to leave the market. It's still pretty regularly available. I'd unload them whenever the new MGS drops on PS3 and 360.

Is there any value to these games?

Parasite Eve (black)
Parasite Eve 2 (black)
FFT (black)
Threads of Fate
Bubble Bubble & Rainbow Islands (psx)
Buying games at full price as investments = bad idea
The key phrase here being "at full price."

I actually have a potential trade in the works right now for one of the SE copies I have. They have Prototype, which is another one of the games I have on my minor want list. It's still $50-60 most everywhere, so a $30 game plus $10 or so shipping is still a deal to me.

Is Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana for the :ps2: rare? The girlfriend got it for me when she stopped by Gamestop. She had my Edge card with her so she snagged it for $13.50 before tax. Never heard of it.. but she thought I'd like it because the cover looked like the games I had, according to her. Game is in great condition too.
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana
Sounds rare. It has a rare "ring" to it.
but she thought I'd like it because the cover looked like the games I had, according to her
Ha ha. I love girlfriend logic.

Edit: Oh! Ignored your question, sorry!

A quick glance on eBay's completed listings shows that all the copies say "rare" in the listing title, but they only sell in the $20-30 range. No Ico, but no Shadow of the Colossus, either.

PE2 gets a bit more than PE but not by much (looking at $10 to $15 more and doesn't seem to go over $30 on good days). I believe FFT isn't worth much either way (original vs. GH). Threads of Fate is rare and can fetch more if it has those cards. Looking at mid $40 just for a good, complete copy. Bubble Bobble seems to be going up so I recommend hanging on to it for now.

Not unless it's sealed. It's a good RPG though.
Threads of Fate worth about $20, not rare at all
fuck got it confused with Thousand Arms. I don't know why I keep doing that all the time.

Anyway, he's right. Not rare or worth too much.

atelier iris 1 is a good game. but for some reason i think its probably the graphics that set it back from being rare or sought after because it has very very outdated graphics (though its ok, the gameplay value makes up for it).

Are any of these games rare? And are the prices I bought them at good?
:ps2:Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King $9.88
:ps2:Final Fantasy XII $8
:ps2:Katamari Damacy $6.52
:ps2:Twisted Metal Black $3.25
:ps2:Sly 2 Band of Thieves $4.25
:ps2:Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance $7.25

None of those stand out as rare to me... I dont follow this stuff though. I'm pretty sure it's Dark Alliance 2 that's the expensive one. I wouldnt mind buying FF12 for $8 though. I lost my copy a long while back.

Sorry about the bad pic but my camera isn't good for small things.

Joshua Battle of Jericho for the Game Boy. I don't see it on Amazon or Ebay.

dragon quest VIII I think is still pretty common right now, maybe in a few years it will be worth something, I have it, might not be to rare but it's a nice RPG if you loved the dragon warrior series you'll like it.

Square Enix shipped half a million copies, and it is a GH. Plus Square Enix is known for keeping their games in print.

Border Down Limited Edition (slightly different than the regular LE as the music CD comes in it's own case, and it comes with a mousepad) is my rarest game. I paid a lot for it back then, but I'm sure it's appreciated. Has anyone seen any LE's for sale? I've seen a handful of regulars on ebay, but they're usually fixed price and going for over $100.

Someone else might have mentioned it, but that's 88 pages of madness to wade through.
Thanks but I was looking for completed listings. It's easy to copy others and put it up there but not sure where it will actually sell at.
There's one listed for $.99 with 6 days left and no bids... just wait for that to end and than you'll have your completed listing.
Joshua Battle of Jericho for the Game Boy. I don't see it on Amazon or Ebay.
I found Exodus: Journey To The Promised Land & Joshua: The Battle of Jericho last year cart only and while I never bothered to look them up to see what they were worth I would guess that each of them are only worth about $5 give or take a few bucks depending on who's buying. Complete and in good/mint condition I wouldn't really know but would guess $20-30 roughly. Game Boy games don't really seem to hold much if any value unless complete, a good example of this would be Amazing Tater as rare as it seems to be the only copy (which was cart only) I saw on eBay over the last year ended somewhere under $20 shipped.

Not quite as simple as that. Look up Suikoden II completed. Auctions ending around $65 and Buy it Nows at $100.

Auctions aren't the greatest indicator and unless you have several of them to look over.

gbpackers94 the games youre posting are not rare at all. they are what you call common games that basically sells for what you purchased them for. before posting, check rarityguide.com, videogamepricecharts.com or igpc.inaudible.co.uk in the uk

You're not really asking if those are rare, are you? Or are you just having fun with us?

Not meaning to sound rude, it's just that those titles are quite obviously common, even to non-collectors.

Kind of on the expensive side. If you're looking to expand your PS2 game collection, I highly recommend Goozex. A lot of good titles for only 100 points which comes out to $5 shipped per game. Some people complain about condition but with the 8-9 games I've received, I say the conditions ranged from either great to perfect to mint.

It only has 11 rare games for PS2 because there's probably only that many that are rare. There's a ton that are uncommon though. Prince of Persia is so common it's not even funny. Hell, at one point, Ubisoft was bundling it with copies of Splinter Cell as an extra incentive to buy it.

RarityGuide's prices are heavily inflated. They seem to think I could get $50+ for Power Stone 1 and $78 for Power Stone 2.. ha! That'd be nice!

they are almost correct though. if youre patient enough you can get $70 for your powerstone 2. but for powerstone 1 you can rarely sell it for $30 let alone $50+

Is Steel Battalion worth more if I had the original box for all items?! Got it with a used xbox I bought off Craigslist a few years ago.

They might be correct if the prices they list are the highest that game sold for ever. Their listings are incredibly inflated and I look at their guide as somewhat of a joke.
