The Official 2016 Yard Sale Thread

Hit up the Saturday only sales today from the community sales.

Didn't get any games. Most of what I saw was PS3 stuff, a few OG XBox games for $5 each that I have (Halo and Fable) and some crappy Wii games for $1 each (Dora, Nick Fit, something else). Surprised as I usually do well at that sale for Gameboy/DS and random Genesis carts. Probably dried up the place, though.

Did get some DVDs... Inglourious Basterds for $1, Sealab 2021: Season One for $1 and Never Ending Story 1 & 2 (separate cased) $1 for the pair. Also got my bro Dazed & Confused for $2 and Caddyshack 2 for 25 cents as I know he liked the first a lot.

Also got Yo MTV Raps on CD. The woman said 50 cents for a CD. My sister found two she wanted and the woman said 3 for $1. I always love a yard sale where they randomly lower prices.

Then at one sale I got an ice cream scooper (those good squeeze kinds, still sealed) for 50 cents, a wine cork opener for 50 cents new (guy had a bunch of both of those) and a 4" or so high stack of post-it notes sealed for 25 cents.

...Funniest thing I saw today was some woman bring her daughter who I guess just a kid to a sale to look at some big Fisher Price toy. I guess they went to another sale but got there early and the woman told her she wouldn't sell it until 8 am, so they decided to drive around. Apparently this guy had the same one for a few bucks cheaper.

Day started out with me finding almost nothing the 1st 2hours until the community sales got going. Will update with Pictures later today.

Found a Halo Reach strategy guide with abunch of books so asked the lady if she had any games. Only had some old Nintendo games that she wanted $1 a piece for.

Found Slim PS2 with about 10 games for $15
[attachment=21899:20160514_181911.jpg]

Wii with about 10 games $25. Just seen that the wire to the sensor is cut. Something told me not to buy it.
[attachment=21903:20160514_205552.jpg]

Pokemon Stadium Blockbuster sticker sheet corners are a little bent $1. Bag of Pokémon figures $1 for whole bag. Pokémon holo's 10cent each including Charizard and Blastoise. A little beat up but oh well.

[attachment=21901:20160514_205320.jpg]

Abunch of random PS2/Xbox 360 games $1.
[attachment=21898:20160514_181730.jpg]

Disney DVD's $1. Brand new Monster High and Barbie blu Ray's 6 for $5.

Made a mistake and went to a community sale at the Southern end of Orlando that was over an hour from me.  It ended up being a bust and only got 360 Black Ops, 360 Battlefield 3, and 360 Modern Warfare 3 for $4 total.

I hit a bunch of random sales on the way home and made my way to an advertised video games sale that stated no early birds.  I figured I would miss everything as they would have people waiting.  Instead, I was told I was the first person there to want video games and ended up with a 12 gig PS3 Slim, 1 PS2 Game (Crash), 8 DS Games (Cart Only) and 7 Game Boy Advance Games (Cart Only) for $30 Total.  Not a bad find and saved the day a bit.

Dang how much was the ps3? Any good DS/GBA games or just common stuff?

The PS3 was $20.  The DS / GBA / Crash PS2 games were $10.  The best DS Game was new Super Mario Brothers.  Also got 2 Pokemon Ranger DS games, Nintendogs, and my wife was super happy with Teen Titans GBA.

My was wanted me to find a Blue Ray player with Netflix for the 32 inch JVC LED I found last week.  When I cam home with the PS3, and we confirmed it worked, she was quite pleased.

Still shocked the game stuff lasted at the sale as long as it did.

3 community sales. Only like 45 degrees out with no sun. I felt like I walked 10 miles today

2b4nk0.jpg

Assassins Creed 2 Statue - $10 (favorite find of the day)

PS3: Ncaa Football 14 & 13( my brain was frozen and I accidentally bought it  :wall: ) GTA 5 and a broken PS3 controller - $15 (wwwwhhhyyy did I do this)

PS2: Viewtiful Joe, Champions of Norrath, Battlefront II - $6

PS1: Sol Divide & Star Wars Jedi Power Battles - $3

Cars DVD Sealed - $1

Super Mario poster - 25 cents

Time to rest up for next weekend

An update on that 50 cent GBM. It turns on and plays games after replacing the battery....but

Previous owner must have spilled liquid on it. D-pad is messed up.

9fFJyYh.jpg

*cries*
You can open and clean it. Wonder if they still make replacement screens? Gameboy Advance SP replacement shell seen before, but not sure about this. I wish I found one cheap.

that's what i like about this board--i get other people's thoughts on etiquette and strategy for finding stuff. the earliest i show up is 5 or 10 minutes early. even then i feel feel like a dirtbag and always ask if it's okay. i'll leave if i sense any annoyance. i also hate paying with a 20 when i only spend 2 or 3 bucks. i'm going to have to get a stack of ones later today..
At most, wake up between 8 or 9am. I go the ones that are nearby or if doing something in the area. Still kinda new to this, but do notice that anyone posts video games, I don't bother because its picked as soon as it starts. I found stuff (not great like others here) that wasn't posted on gs air or craigslist. Motherbrain, do u really get there early and camp out?

Anyway, gone to 3 yard sales. The only thing found was:

xbox one controller with the rechargeable battery pack inside the controller (no usb cord;; can any micro usb work or does it have to be the oem) $10

Crazy Stupid Love dvd $1

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition PS3 (Not sure why I got this. Never play the series. ) $1

Kinda sucks to not find any games. Only one person had games and said as soon as the yard sale open, a guy purchase Zelda Gamecube, Blue, yellow, red Pokemon GB, Gameboy Advance and Color.

The other sale was at a High School. Mostly books, VHS, CD,clothes, and boxes of jewelry.

Smart showing up 5-10 mins. Back in 2007/2008 I would just drive around to sales. These days I check garage sales on Friday Night and Saturday in the Am before I map my route. I usually go to sales advertising video games, I'll also go to community or neighborhood sales since they are bound to have something. I have had terrible luck at random sales. Also make sure you carry small bills

I have been know to write about my garage sale finds for The Gamer's Lounge. I enjoy the hunt these days

So the xbox listing didnt have any xbox games, but wii? You think it was done to get people to come to the sale or if they already so the xbox games?

Also, the screen on a Game Boy Micro can be replaced. They cost around $15 on eBay, although it's up to you if it's worth the extra work to install it.

Yea, its possible they sold them. I didnt see any where they were keeping the games. I might have been a ruse to get people to the sale

BTW I have at least 1-2 more finds articles going up this week. Nothing great and mostly stuff I mentioned in this thread already

Finally went sale'n..........and since it was at noon-1 on my lunch break I didnt find jack! I think most had packed up by then because I saw way more signs than sales. Saw some PC and PS2 games at 1 sale, nothing worth picking up. Heard the guy running the sale (looked about 55ish) talking to a guy who couldve been his dad about video games. Was gonna ask about games until I heard him say "yeah I got some Sega Genesis and Xbox stuff Im sitting on at home, I think people buy the cartridges these days. Gotta look them up and see what theyre worth first."..............

If you say so lol. Einhander, spyro and saga frontier and dreamcast games are just cases and manuals no game disc. Everything else is complete.

I left my contact info with the couple I found the lot from. They said they would contact me if they find something. I told them I just really want the disc to Einhander if they find it.

I also got a cib mickeys illusion staring Donald duck for genesis at a different garage sale for $1.

Craigslist, newspapers, NextDoor, Facebook. I keep an eye on them all.

As for me, not much from last weekend. I picked up a few things from a flea market, but my only video game find from an actual yard sale was sealed DualShock 3 controller.

Dont forget just driving around looking for sales/signs, "freestyle'n". I think Ive found most of my finds from sales that werent in the paper.......and def not on Facebook or CL. Those are the ones people hit first.

"Freestyle'n" for me, too.  I still look at CL, etc., but I can usually figure out if an area/neighborhood sale is going to get swarmed and I go in the other direction and hit those sales.  It's worked fairly well for me.

Slow start this season though.  Been going out for about a month, but didn't find any gaming stuff worth the price until last weekend.

Dragon Quest VIII (PS2) (sealed) $8

Elite Beat Agents (DS) $1

Garages Sales by Map app has been the most successful for me. I think it pulls all of the sales off of CL and puts them on a map with their listing. Very easy to use.

Had a decent day today. Found a nice gameboy lot, but I was sad to hear they had a box of NES stuff that someone else beat me to. I tend to notice things others do not, so I was happy to spot the zipped case and investigate if it was a gameboy in side. Got some good records and some comic stuff too.

Picked up a few things. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom for $5 for PS3, Kirby's epic yarn for $5 and The Dark Knight Returns DCA blu-ray for $5

Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Micro, SP?

Today was raining lightly and went to one yard sale. They said since it was raining to come back next week, but when I ask for games, they had 2 ds lites, some kids ds games, and a few GBA games. The only thing good was the Super Mario Bros 3 gba cart. They were saying that they were going to post it on ebay. Didnt get nothing and left.

On the way, saw a sign and follow it to another sale. Not game related, but they had books, glassware, etc. This is what I pick up:

A Electric can open Hamilton Beach model 76600 with knife sharper

A TomTom XL GPS with the windshield mount, case, car charger

3 dvd movies (The princess diaries 2, The Ladykillers sealed, and The Last Emperor)

Charles E. O'Hara Fundamentals of criminal investigation (brown book. inside says ninth printing. Got it because it seems interesting)

All for $3.00

Anyone still use GPS? Got it to save data and power from smartphone.

Had a pretty good find today. I haven't had a NES find in awhile and that changed this morning. I hit a Community sale of townhomes as it started at 7am. The third or fourth sale that was opening had a lot of baby stuff and I asked for video games. The game asked if I bought old games and I told him the older the better. He went inside and I bought a bath toy for my 5 1/2 month old. He then walks out with a junky storage container of consoles (NES toaster, N64, Yellowed SNES and a brick game boy) and a really nice box of games. I ended up getting the whole lot for $40 and got (all cart only)

NES
Zelda 1
Zelda 2
Double Dragon 2
Super Mario / Duck Hunt w/ manual
Mario 2 w/ manual
Mario 3
Joust
Road Blasters
Turtles 1
King of the Beach
Dragon Warrior 1
Tetris 1 w/ manual
Final Fantasy
Contra

SNES
Super Mario Kart
Star Fox
Super Mario World

N64
Goldeneye
Star fox 64
Perfect Dark
Ocarina of time

Game Boy
Double Dragon

Also got a NES game doctor and a NES controller Doctor

The rest of the day was slow. I actually went back to the above Sale and x360 Need for Speed Most Wanted

I ended up hitting 2 other Community sales. The rest of the games I got were

3x Mario Kart wii (one from Friday) - $5, $5, $4
New Super Mario Wii (in pack in sleeve from Friday) - $5
Kingdom Hearts GH - $2
Star Wars Battlefront GH - $2
Model 2 Xbox 360 no wires - $5 (no idea if it works, with the new lot I figured I could take a chance)
GBA AC adapter - $1

Today I was only able to get a couple of hours of 'saling  in.  Not a great day.

This week's finds:

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 (Xbox) for $1

XBox 360 Wifi Adapter for $1 (remember when these stupid things cost a hundred bucks?)

The Wire Complete Series (DVD) for $2

Last Sat was a bit better:

1. Gamecube w Soul Caliber 2 and Odama for $20

2.  Last of US (PS3) for $1.  I'll buy this game every time I see it for a buck.  Best game of the last gen IMHO.

3. The following for $50 - around noon at a community sale

NES Console w/ 2 controllers

N64 Console w/ 2 controllers and Red Memory Pak

Top Gun (NES)

Wrestlemania (NES)

RBI Baseball (NES)

Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest (NES)

Goldeneye (N64)

Track & Field (N64)

Duke Nukem (N64)

Star Wars Shadow of the Empire (N64)

Cruisin USA (N64)

Ready 2 Rumble (N64)

Star Wars Pod Racer (N64)

WCW Revenge (N64)

Game Genie (Gameboy)

Game Genie (Nintendo)

Super Mario Deluxe (GB)

Extra NES AC Adapter

..and the mystery game inside the NES I forgot about until heading home?  Friggin' TETRIS.  Why is it always a crap game like TETRIS or GOLF?

4. Mario Tennis (GB) 25 cents

5. Super Mario 64 (N64) for $5.  probably offered too much on this, but i didn't want to buy yet another console and the 3 addl. shovelware games.

i don't think arriving 5 mins early is camping out. but i always ask if they're setup before bothering em. if they're not, i'll hit up another sale down the street and come back. i've been told by folks hosting the sales that "the video game people" will sometimes get there 30 mins early.

Thanks for the reminder. I probably won't bother going out for the holiday weekend since there never seems to be many around the last few years.

I did that once and when I came back, I sadly watched someone else pay for a NES/SNES/Genesis game lot.

Recent yard sale pick ups!

$10 PSP lot: PSP has some issues. I have to use painters tape to keep the UMD slot closed but it works good enough for me!

wu3wur.jpg

$40 Gamecube Lot: Some good controllers and great games & 2 memory cards :) but console is missing power brick but works great

(Burnout cut out of pic)

I have more pick ups but running out of time for pics and such. I got a $10 AGS-101 GBA SP lot with games and some other things. The past couple weeks have been good to me. Good luck out there!

Posted this in the Flea Market thread but it's too good of a find to just post there:

Might be one of my best finds ever. Went to our flea market that I just found out existed last weekend and didn't find anything and was driving away when I saw this older guy put this out. I stopped the car and ran over asked how much he replied "$10 I just sold one last week for $10" I opened my wallet as fast as I could  :D/ Got home and charged it up and it does work like he told me  :-({|=

Not much going on this weekend. Saw one and they had nothing but clothes and kids books. There was one not listed, but looks like they setup in the afternoon. Nice people. Guy got a new job and moving to Cali so he was selling some stuff.

Picked up:

Rockband 3 wireless guitar xbox 360 (New in Green box) $5

(A guy already picked up the rockband keyboard and the guitar hero 5 guitar stand alone box $10)

Final Fantasy 13-2 with booklet comic ps3?

Wartech: Senko no Ronde xbox 360

Sengoku Basara: Samurai ps3

Total: $12

Not many sales today, as expected.

I found a great game sale in my neighborhood but they did not pull the games out on my visit and they did not call me.  I went to the sale twice and they told me they would call me when they brought the rest of the games out.

Overall, I ended up with

4 PSP Games with case for $1 Total

NBA 2K5 X1 for $1

Battlefield 3 X360 - $1

Resident Evil 5 X360 - $1

Sonic Mega Collection NGC - $1

Jimmy Neutron PS2 - .25 Cents

And a $10 Lot on the way home that included

A N64 w/ 4 N64 Sports Games

A Dreamcast w/ a disc only Sports game and VMU

Borderlands Handsome Collection X1

The Seller of the Console Lot said all the Dreamcast games and quality N64 games sold early in the day.  I was surprised the consoles were still there and the Seller was in get rid of everything mode.

Didnt have much luck this weekend. Saw a few macbooks for $100 apiece. They were 4-5 years old, seemed to be that price on eBay.

One sale had video games, but another person pushed himself to the front and demanded to look at the games first since he had called the person running the sale.

It was all shovelware Wii/360 games. He can have them

Im in the middle of trying to complete the entire gamecube library if you guys run into cheap shovelware, I might be interested. Have to be complete. Mostly just shovelwear. I already own almost ever other good title.

It's been getting rough in my area; the heat must've blew a couple of minds because I was seeing longboxes of comic books for $5 each and a Vita that didn't power on for $100. I've been having more luck actually with going up to the obvious collectors with my trade boxes, not all of them price crazy and I was fortunate to run into a guy who was willing to trade an NES console + 4 games for my ps1 Wing Commander 3 and Saga Frontier 2.

I hope you bought the comics! If you need help with value there are a few of us in this thread that collect them. You guys on the east coast are getting some nice stuff!

Yard sales for me were a bust as far as games go, though I did give out my information to quite a few folks over the weekend so hopefully something will come of that (it probably won't). Sunday night, though, I had a pick up from a guy preparing for yard sale that I met, and considering my ill luck lately I'm gonna count it ;). I got everything below for $150, and the items in the box are two mostly complete Wiis.

I assumed from his post that he was saying they were selling longboxes of comics for $5 a comic not for $5 a box.
My bad on the flawed grammar of that passage; these were indeed $5 each comics for (mostly) early 90s overflow. Worse than convention prices...

Some quality titles in there, nice pick up! I've been looking for Prinny, Clash of Heroes and Chrono Trigger for awhile.

Had a strange day today. Missed some good stuff by seconds (a boxed 80s GI JOE vehicle), got some other decent stuff anyway (records for 10 cents each, stainless steel sawhorses in the box for $1 each, misc board games for .50 each-including "stop thief"). Ended up getting a woman's phone number that I didn't ask for. She was cute, but just had a baby, so I will not be calling her. I think she is pretty young too. Probably at least 10 years between us. Went to another sale and a woman had VHS tapes for $1 each. I was interested in 6 of them, so I asked if she would take 50 cents each. She said "No. They are a dollar each.", so I left them. Cool story slow...I just found it odd she wouldn't deal at all especially since she was a pop up sale, with no customers late in the day, and since she had things like video games for 50 cents-$2 each. I also made a joke on FB and got over 500 likes (from strangers. none of my friends liked it). I guess it is validation that I am funny on occasion.
