Okay, I got what I think is a pretty good score tonight, as well as a pretty good sale. First, I sold a bunch of Blu Rays that I had picked up over the course of the Gamestop 75% off (85% off with EDGE card) clearance for $10 each that were dupes or didn't go into my collection for whatever reason. They originally cost me around $1.50-$2.50 each. Stuff like the Resident Evils, Spider-Mans, etc. So not too shabby, especially since the guy came to me and paid cash.
Now for the deal. I was browsing craigslist and came across the following ads for a Gamecube and DS (I believe I was searching for "gamecube wireless", as an alternative for "Wavebird"):

The jist of the ads:
Then I find the separate ads for the DS alone...he's asking $30 for it:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/tag/1056438372.html
Hmmm. All six ads within a half hour of each other, first two with the price at $50 (for a Gamecube with SSBM and 4 controllers, 3 wireless AND a DS) and two with the price at $40 (for the Gamecube with SSBM and 4 controllers, 3 wireless only), and the last 2 with a DS for $30.
I figured, with the DS and hopefully at least 1 or 2 of those wireless controllers being Wavebirds (platinum???), I could definitely get my money back and then some. IF it was still available.
I contact him by phone, and he tells me he still has everything. I tell him I've got cash and will pick up, but since nobody is buying Gamecubes now because of the Wii and nobody wants original DSes because of the DS Lite and the new DSi, I will give him $40 cash for everything, take it or leave it. I figure, with that many ads all within a half hour of each other, dude is desperate for cash.
He agrees, and we set up a meet for 6:30 this evening.
I get there, take a look at everything, and hand over the two twenties. This one had a few bonuses so I'm glad I jumped on it. Dude was a young guy and I had to laugh, wondering if he was selling this stuff so he could just buy some booze (didnt seem like an addict or junkie though) or who knows what. He had the meet setup in a Ralph's parking lot, so I'm guessing he wanted to use the cash to buy some booze. Also wondered if this stuff was stolen, since the DS has no AC adapter. Maybe he stole it from his little brother considering the bonus Pokemon game, LOL.
Here's what I got:
- Platinum Gamecube with Digital Video out (i.e. component video capable)
- 1x official Black Gamecube wired controller
- 2x Wavebird Platinum controllers and receivers (cleaned and added to personal collection already)
- 1x Gamestop wireless controller and receiver, black
- Super Smash Brothers Melee, disc only, lightly scuffed (in the Gamecube...will need to print up a new case insert and/or find a case for it).
- the normal AV cables and power supply
- some crap third party "16" memory card
- DS, original fat version, silver, has its stylus (no AC adapter though...I was worried when it wouldn't start up, but figured I'd give it a charge when I got home and see then - for the price I was paying, I'd take the chance). And in the DS are:
- Pokemon Ruby version for GBA
- GT Asphalt Urban for DS
----------------------------------------------
When I got home, I used my GBA SP charger to charge the DS, and it works beautifully. Screen has a few very minor scratches, but all in all it works great.
I'm probably going to go buy another GBA SP charger from Gamestop, a used one so I can resell the DS with it. Any idea what these old models go for? videogamepricecharts.com lists them at $83.xx, but I wasn't thinking of getting that much for it. Maybe $65 on craigslist, including the new AC adapter I'm gonna buy and the GT Urban Asphalt game? Or maybe I should trade it in to Gamestop...I think they have a trade-in deal going on with bonuses for DS/DS Lite trade-ins or bonuses if you trade one in toward a DSi. Any recommendations? I basically paid $20 for it.
I'm also wondering whether I should keep the Gamecube, since my black one is boxed up in storage and I can't recall if it has the digital AV output like this one does...but I'm pretty sure it does. I was thinking about selling this Gamecube along with the Gamestop wireless controller and the official black wired controller on craigslist, and list it with some of the higher demand games I have like Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, NCAA 2K3, and Pikmin 2, though list them all with separate prices (not as a bundle). It would be nice to get a case/instructions for the SSBM when I resell it, but I can always get the printout of the case insert from the cover project.
Anyway, that's my score for the day...
