The Official Fry's Clearance Thread

Update 11/01/09: I have been filtering out a lot of games that do not exist on the website anymore and removed many of the games that have jumped up to a normal price again. Many of the clearance games are starting to make their way out of Fry's system and some are making them back in but at a more standard price, for example $19.80 now. So if you don't see a clearance game on this list but you have seen it before, and if you go to the store and see it marked up at a much higher price now, it would be appreciated if you can post your finds and let me know. I am just trying to get an idea how the pattern works because as of right now, it is very inconsistent, and every little bit of help is great. Thanks everybody

Update 10/23/09: Lot's of the clearance games are beginning to get phased off the website in order to make room for the upcoming games coming in for the holiday season. I will leave them on the list for the time being, and if they still aren't there next week, I'll start taking off games that aren't listed anymore to keep the list cleaner.

After getting the okay from Guinaevere, I present to everyone the official Fry's clearance thread.

I just wanted to thank sinksand as well as others who put forth the work the previous Fry's clearance thread. Thanks everybody.

This list is just a preliminary list. Most of the games that I picked out from the list, the majority of them are listed on the website. There are also many games that are not listed on the website that I have seen in stores that are also on this list, so if you find a game on your receipt you got from Fry's that was on clearance and it's not on this list, it would be appreciated if you can post it here (and the locations for the benefits of fellow CAGs),and I will do my best to update the list.

You may also notice that this list does not include most of the previous gen console games yet nor does this list include pc games or accessories yet, so I will try and get them up as soon as possible.

I heard somewhere that SRT OG Saga doesn't work on DSi. Is it true or just bs?

Wow, the people at Fry's can be jerks. If you ask to be transferred somewhere, they don't acknowledge you and you just hear a click after they transfer you. A minor quibble, and I don't really mind all that much. But today I called asking if an instore pickup could be transferred. Basically I called in today asking if they could transfer Suikoden for DS to my local store and they couldn't find it. So I placed an instore pickup order and of course the game is ready for pickup. So when I called and asked the phone answer-er guy if I could get an in-store pickup order transferred. He asked me, "You want it transferred?" So I explained why I placed the order in the first place then in the middle of my sentence I hear a click and I was dumped to the software section! So I had to re-explain it and the guy asked for my name. I gave it to him, he left, and then came back saying that it'll be transferred to me. I asked if he needed my number since they normally ask me and he said they don't, that all my information is in the order. O_O Hope that's the case and I'm not getting BSed.

Honestly, I don't have problems with them, but their phone etiquette blows. Good store otherwise.

I think you might be getting BS'd. Generally Fry's dread the word transfer, unless it is a transfer of a $5000 tv, then they will gladly do it for you, but for a small game like this, I am surprised if they follow through with it. Best of luck FoS. Let us know how it works out. And if worst comes to I can just pick an extra copy up now and see if it drops in next 30 days to a price you are comfortable with, since if I send it to you, you will have to cover paypal fees and shipping, so did you want me to do that? Worst comes to worst I just return the second copy within 30 days if it doesnt drop low enough . But let us know how the transfer goes.

Well, if they are buying bootleg versions of it off ebay from some seller in hong kong or china, then yes, that is true. Just like Tetris not working on DSi rumors. And Atlus games are notorious for being bootlegged from sellers on eBay. Specially the newer ones.

Well, I've done it twice now with no issues. Here's hoping! Today I'm just going to call in and see if it's still there (since it was supposed to be sent out yesterday). If they find it, I'll rexplain the request for transfer and then maybe it'll get done.

I don't think there's any official time, but I've noticed the most changes on their site Friday nights after stores close (9 PT). As others have commented, if you see something you want, it's probably better to buy now and price adjust later.

Sweet! Some of the new DS drops bring games into the range of what I'm willing to pay. I need to make another trip to Fry's and see what they have left that I didn't buy last week because it was still too high. I did buy Ghostbusters DS at $12 because they only had 1 copy and I figured it would sell at that price.

Well it depends. Best Buy will technically match anything. I don't think in my 5 years that I worked at Best Buy a manager ever turned down a clearance price matching, except if it was not in stock. I've seen managers match some crazy clearance prices on TVs before, and they still do it because they want to hit budget, so it depends. But the biggest thing is, it has to be in stock anyways for Best Buy to price match anything, so if its not at your Fry's, then this is not an option anyways.

It varies. Drops sometimes generally start on Thursday, but normally on Thursday nights there are very little drops. The majority of the drops begin on Friday and Saturday nights and then goes past the weekend. I have seen drops as late as Monday and Tuesday. It is very inconsistent, but if you see a game you're afraid that won't be there next time, just pick it up earlier if you are there. And worst comes to worst, you could always get it adjusted within 30 days.

Wow. That is the first time I've ever heard of a store price matching a clearance price on an item. Sale prices, sure. Clearance, never.

$5 is about where I will try anything, plus I've been wanting a fishing game on Wii. I haven't played a Spyro game since the original on the PS, it's not supposed to be any good but I'll give it a shot. Should be able to get it's price adjusted later anyway.

I guess I could trade some in, and probably get it for free...
But, GameStop ran out of copies, and Game Crazy is closing.
Maybe I can go to Rasputin, or Amoeba music...
There should be a trade in thread for those places, even though they are small and niche, like Fry's.
The nice thing is, they pay you cash, instead of credit.
But, on the other hand, they do give you less money, then you'd get in credit.
They go by the quality of the game, not by what game it is.

But, anyway... back on topic.
Has anyone else noticed that Animal Crossing for the Wii, is actually cheaper with the Wii speak included, than without?
It's $29.90 with Wii speak, and $34.97 without.

Yeah, I have noticed the same thing with the majority of bundles that go on sale, it tends to be way cheaper than the game by itself. Whatever floats their boat I guess XD

Must be nice. My Fry's has a strict no adjustment policy on all these clearance games since they are "discontinued". Recently I was able to sneak a few adjustments in with a cashier who wasn't up on their latest policy (she in fact offered to do it when I was just trying to return) but more often than not I just get shot down. So what I do now is simply return the pricier copy when I pick something up cheaper (assuming it is still in stock of course). But I've lost a lot of $$ on not being able to price adjust things that are no longer in stock.

Thats normally the logic I use with my Fry's. When they hesitate to do it, I just explain to them I could easily just return the game since its within 30 days and repurchase it anyways, so why not just make things easier? At least I am not trying to get it adjusted outside of the 30 days like some other customers that I frequently see next to me when I go to get my games adjusted. But my Fry's is nice anyways, so I guess that helps.

That argument only works when the item is still in stock. Most of the time, the games are long gone by the time the 30 days rolls around. Having said that, every one of the four Fry's locations I visit regularly have been very nice about the adjustments. If I get shut down at some point, however, I'm not going to feel bad because the games are already a great bargain and the price adjustments are just icing.

Nah, I meant I literally return my copy and then repurchase it at the new price. Not the way io was talking about. I generally don't open the games I buy from Fry's partly because I am greatly backlogged, but also just in case I need to return it for some reason. It's not like these are new games and I just have to open them right away, so I just keep them sealed for the time being.

Yeah, thats one of the games that they took off. But when I got my adjustments earlier, the person who helped me actually pointed it out that it dropped, which was really nice of them.

I was in Fry's to pick up Overlord: Dark Legend for the Wii at $13.65, when I noticed Wario Land on the clearance section for $18.99!!! The game is a cult classic and uses the Wii remote quite well. It's a decent price as most places still have it for $50!!!

Doesn't matter. I have 8 stores within 83 miles of me, none of them have one according to the site.
