Mine is finally installing.

EDIT: I don't see any cosmetic changes/additions, and they didn't change the battery/clock overlapping. Ugh.

I always watch the credits the first time. Never after that.

Well, I take that back. I watch credits again if they've got something good (either music or videos) or if they're unskippable.

I think 2.42 gives you a bit faster in-game XMB. Also, notice how they say PS and PS3 software and never "Playstation Family Software"? Makes me think something's up.

supposedly the new firmware also loads up tropihes quicker... seems like an overall optimization of the xmb. probably takes less memory now.

Yeah, sounds like background stuff.
Wonder if Life with Playstation stuff will be a download on Thursday and this helps with it.

I noticed that they have fixed Playstation 1 compatibility in 2 recent firmware updates now. Is there any way to see which titles had their issues ironed out? Also anyone know of a way to alert Sony of problems with certain titles? Final Fantasy Origins freezes my 60gb PS3 every time I have to raise one of my fallen party members.

Still trying to download this dumb thing after it lost connection twice. I might even leave my PS3 on for a while in fear of not being able to log back in.

I tried out this download link someone posted in the PSBlog comments. It doesn't work any better, but at least I can play Soulcalibur while trying to get it.

Also a commenter on qj.net says the patch includes a Bluetooth headset fix. It doesn't sound 100% like the problem we've been having in Warhawk and GTA, but I'm guessing that will be fixed as well.

Urgh. I want this damn update already. Just wanted to play some CoD4.

Is it just me or are West Coasters the only ones having problems getting this new update?
it gives you XMB that only let's you see your friends now, can't see the whole main menu anymore
Here's another link to download if anyone is having problems. I tried yours metaly and it's either taken off or busy.

EDIT: O yeah it might take a little longer than a normal download but I think it's because a lot of people are downloading at the same time. It is MUCH faster than downloading from the official site or on the PS3 though.

I'm afraid to update =P

Anybody experience 2.41 updating then at 50% it just jumps out of the progress bar screen and resets? scary stuff...

Man... OP hasn't been updated since 2.2

This is why CAG needs wiki posts available in threads like this.

Is it safe to download from my PS3 and update, or should I hold off for a bit longer?

Also, I hope the PS playback issues they fixed were FF origins and Chrono Cross, doubt it, though.

Anyone else having an issue with random resolution changes? Movies, arcade games and Drake's Fortune play in 1080i for me but as soon as i put in Hot Shots or Eye of Judgement it switches to 480p very annoying!

Some games say 720p on the back only, but support 1080i/1080p, but it's weird and sucks sometimes (UT3). SC4 supports 1080p through turning off 720p/1080i, but I've yet to see how it looks.
They need to eliminate the automatic pause at the end of videos .

I have no idea where the need for this originates from .

Yeah, it should send you back to the XMB. But it might have something to do with the fact that you can make custom icons for videos.

this update pissed me off. I couldn't download it through the PS3 like always so I had to go to the playstation boards to get a download. First one failed as I got a corrupt file message. I had to redownload it again from another link and it scared me because it hung at the same place as the last download. At least it's over with now. I just wanted to play some Team Fortress 2.
They all just say "supports 720p" on the back
Make sure 720p is checked under Display settings.
You may have to "un-check" 1080i when playing those games.

Since I'm still so new to the PS3, can anyone tell me if you HAVE to actually download each update as they come? I'm asking because I'm fine with how my PS3 is NOW, so unless 2.42 ADDS something significant to the operation of the PS3 I'd rather NOT download it.
Damn .. I'm a solid 10 minutes in to the dl/install process. This is redonkulous.
I only have a wireless signal, which is off of my 768 kbps speed DSL line and it took over 30 or more minutes for the dl/install of the 2.41 firmware. Either way, I just go someplace and do something else while it dl/installs.

I think the moment you try and get online (Store or game), it will force the update, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

It does. Try to play an online game without updating.

Yep as soon as I powered up my system it made me update (mine is set to automatically sign in). When I ran the update this morning it took like 10 min to get to 50% then it finished about two minutes later.
If you don't care about getting online, you're free to not download it.
How do you even check which FW you have installed currently? I ask because I had the jump from 50 or a higher % to 100% and then the PS3 reset. I'm just wondering about this, since I've found out how to do everything else just about.

Tried that, i just get a black screen.

Im all out of suggestions then. Sorry dude. Someone else around here should be able to help.

I downloaded the updated but not my PS3 doesnt want to sign on. I don't know whats going on?! I havent changed my settings since I last turned on my PS3 and the internet is working fine...(I am on the internets now typing this)
ANyone experience these problems?
2.42 definitely does not fix the Bluetooth bug. 2.43 next week, please.
It's not isolated to BT...my USB headset conked out mid-game tonight, too.
