The Official PS3 System Update Thread - 3.10 Available Now

Did this specific update also include DTS-HD? After the update, I went into the sound settings for HDMI, and it does not list DTS-HD.

EDIT: To clarify, I don't have an HDMI 1.3 reciever to use DTS-HD, but I know a friend that does, and will be taking my PS3 over there soon, so just checking to make sure.

Still in the process of DLing/installing the patch (and wife has the TV for CSI Miami repeat), but I checked the AVS forum and users confirm DTS-HD compatibility is available, minus the bitstreaming of course. Now I gotta check which of my BRs has this audio to see what my SR605 can do with it.

I found the answer to my question over at the AVS forums. They say you have to set the audio output to HDMI Linear PCM. Apparently it decodes the DTS-MA inside the system, then sends out PCM to the stereo receiver. It needed this internal decoding because the PS3 cannot itself send out a bitstream signal of DTS-HD or TrueHD. Then, when the movie starts, it will still show as DTS-HD on the display function on the PS3. Because it decodes DTS-MA in the system, and only sends out PCM, it might still work on HDMI 1.1 receivers, as the receiver itself is already receiving the "decoded" information.

The store definitely loads faster. I can't say the same for the icons though. You can click the buttons before the images pop up, which is a good thing, because if you had to wait for the images, it'd be slower than the original store.

only took me 5 minutes to dload the update.
I like the new layout.
Little slow at loading the pictures though. Dunno if thats a first time thing or not.
Hopefully it is.

Looks great though.

Now if only sony would add 1000 items a week to the store instead of 10.

Supposedly, if you launch the web browser and erase your cache, it'll help the store load icons more quickly and lessen the broken images that appear.

Like the new look, downloads may or may not be faster.

They do need to fix the image things, but I'm sure after a couple of days we will. There also needs to be a download manager inside the store.
Download manager?
You have to exit out of the store to see the status of your download if you do it in the background. I'd like to be able to see it without having to exit out of the store.

store isn't bad.. almost on par w/ Marketplace now minus several key features. I like how it's not really web-based anymore but rather it's own entity.

In my case, I just get what I want and exit the store anyway.

I'd like to see Live get the video preview thing. (it probably will now)

Live does have video preview. At least it used to.

At the PS Blog site there's a video walkthrough.
I don't have the link though, a google search should bring it right up.
They should only load slowly the first time right?
Then the drive caches them.
That's how it should work, but I've seen others say it doesn't matter - loads slowly no matter what.

Let me raise my hand as one of those people who will say that. I let the entire alphebet load on the "View All" pages. I then went into a letter and into a particular title and when I backed out again, it had to reload all of the pictures. And I'm talking about almost a full minute before loading them all. It is so painfully slow at loading the pictures, Sony should be embarrassed for such a sad rollout of the store.

I like the new design, but if this slow loading persists than I would rather have the old store with its clunky interface come back.

anyone notice if it is from this update or what, did the play/pause button change from "X" to "START"? I don't like it LOL wonder why.

As for a feature. I would love to see downloadable/custom avatar for your PSN name, fast scrolling, and a "spotlight" type thing.

They do have a "spotlight" feature. See those big images next to the smaller icons. Those are spotlight items.

I suspect we'll see more PSN customization with Home. They really need to update the way you input your profile info anyway. I know for user accounts on the PS3 you can use part of a picture on the PS3 as your icon, but so far in the PSN it's only the set list on your profile page.

They'd probably have to do something like in the 360 where if you make your own profile pic, it's viewable only to those on your friends list.

Lol. Sony should be ashamed of having slow loading thumbnails? On its first day launch?

Wow... I could see if nothing worked but not seeing some thumbnails is not a failure.

Even if they're not planning on a custom avatar feature, I'd love it if they would at least add to the current (mostly lame) selection. I've had my PS3 for almost a year and I don't think they've added any. I wouldn't be surprised if it's been that way since launch.

I love the new store it's great. And i'm glad to hear they icons load problem will be fixed soon! Can't wait to DL MGSOnline.

Although, I wish more games had he preview option, super fast and great quality.

Hahah, well I don't think it is a failure (and never called it as such), and I'm sure they will eventually speed things up. It's just sort of disappointing that they have been making such a big deal about the new store and its launch and yet it takes tiny thumbnails forever to load.

A simple fix for Sony, and a good way to save on bandwidth costs for them is to have the store set aside a certain amount of hard drive space as a cache for PSN Store images. Then the store could do a quick check to see if any images in cache are old and update only as necessary.

They also need to put a loading icon, that little revolving arrows thing, on items that are still loading into the store so people know there's stuff to look at.

But even with all the problems, it's so much better than the previous store.

Heh, I completely forgot about the MGO beta that'll be up two days from now

I can see it now:

OMG! First large game install files, and now I have to save PSN Store data on my precious HD space!?

I wouldn't mind it, just for the record.

Hmmm, regarding HD's, how would I go about transferring my data from one to another if I wanted to upgrade my HD?

I'd hate to waste time re-downloading/backing up data/games/audio/video just for a larger HD :/

live doesn't have custom avatars so to speak, but certainly you can find new ones to download and use, a much larger selection as well. There isn't a section for that on the PSN store, they just have those that are originally available and those suck lol

there is a "spotlight" feature? I mean like what's going on in the Sony community and such that's seen on Live? news, release info etc?

You can backup your old files (completely mind you) onto an external drive, though it does have to be formatted properly, (fat I think)

and then restore everything back onto your shiny new HDD.

(Btw, when i did my upgrade, i just used a 2gb sd card.. )

That would be the information board, though it's not used to that extent.
