truthfully it's WWE that should be held to the higher standard.
WWE = higher standard because they're profitable? (no longer a billion dollar company, by the by.)
TNA is producing the same product, following the same format, and using the same names as WWE, in hopes that they'll hit paydirt suddenly. They're not taking the risks they need to, they're not getting rid of money sinks like they need to, they're not shedding the dead weight on both sides of the camera they need to.
WWE has established itself. We all know that, in the US, if you're a "brand name," then

in idjits will flock to you out of a perverse sense of affinity and identification (e.g., see the need for WWE to inject all sorts of marketing psychology into their product, like WWE Universe™ instead of "fans").
TNA has not established itself, and its writing, production, and execution have been done before. And, in TNA's case, it's not working. TNA's failure to catch a fire with an audience shows that WWE isn't popular because of its product, but because of brand recognition. Yet TNA does take risks - with their talent, with their business practices, with their poor treatment of workers. Where they do not take risks is in their product, where they desperately need to do something.
Yes, of course, the burden is on TNA is give me a reason to watch their show. I've watched pro wrestling on Mondays since 1988, so watching Raw is easy. I don't watch on Tues/Weds/Thurs/Friday anymore, either. So it's not like WWE has me on their hook, either. They just happen to be what is on on Mondays. That's what drove TNA to move to Mondays. They're not putting out a compelling product by doing anything new - they're aping what worked in the past, and doing a pretty weak job of it, too.
TNA has a *huge* opportunity to generate interest in their product following a pretty underwhelming Wrestlemania, as well as the HUGE opportunity to welcome wrestling fans by drawing attention to WWE distancing itself from the word and product. If TNA had anyone with guts or intelligence on their side, they'd have rolled out a promotional campaign already. But you know the truth: they won't do it at all.
Look, I'd love for the underdog to succeed. But I have to like the underdog first. TNA has not given me a reason to like them in years.
EDIT: Jaysis, looking at this TE cast, I know that I'll be safe watching the daily show or going to sleep instead. Looks like a douchebag catalog outside of the diminutive M-Dogg 20.
