The - PERSONA 3 / PERSONA 3 FES - Thread! (FES OUT NOW! $30!)

Agreed.

Still, I have been having a great time just poking through the posts on IGN and Gamefaqs boards. It's fun to see (or read?) the conspiracy theories as to why the game was "really" delayed.

It'll come out and when it does it will get all sorts of playtime. In the meantime, I'll just keep trying to hunt down a decently priced copy of DDS1 as I just found 2 new at EB for $29.99.

No, we just aren't sucking Atlus's collective penis all the time, Mr. Persona 3 avatar. They made a huge blunder and they should own up to it. I like 62t's idea of Atlus making just the game available on their website for those who want it now.

I'm not too bummed about the delay. I been buying a new game every month this summer and I could use a break this month. Maybe I'll be motivated to finally play Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire that are sitting unopened on my desk.
RPG fans are a whiny bunch.
In this particular situation, I'd say its warranted. The fact that we have to wait almost a month from a set in stone Release due to the fact that the book was staple-bound instead of glued is pretty dumb, at least in my opinion. I really couldn't care less about it--and judging from a majority of what I've seen, not many do either.

The fact that we found out about this 7/23, the day before release is the killer though.

Nothing to do but wait, but I'd say out of all the Release date shenanigans of late (including Mass Effects May-July 12th wasteland of info) this takes the cake.

Its great to see it getting good reviews, however. Now, I'm done bitching ;)
I am considering not purchasing any more Atlus games after this. Or at least buying them used so they don't get a dime of my money. Delaying a game for three weeks on the day before it's supposed to be released because of a manufacturing problem on something that should have been finished and checked over weeks ago is one of the least professional things I've ever seen as a gamer or a consumer (that was a ridiculously long sentence). Even Working Designs never pulled bullshit like this.
Yes, being concerned enough about the finished quality of a product to delay release is unprofessional. By your logic, releasing a product that requires multiple patches (or any kind of ex post facto corrections) and in essence turns paying customers into beta testers is the pinnacle of corporate responsibility. Do you work for Microsoft?

Do me and all other Atlus fans who respect a company that has this kind of integrity a favor: stick your whiny-ass head in the oven and turn on the gas.

edit: "They made a huge blunder and they should own up to it."

Your logic is bafflingly retarded. I do, however, fully support your one-bitch campaign to boycott Atlus products. I would also support a campaign for you to kill yourself and/or never produce offspring.

This has nothing to do with patching games or the like. The GAME is finished. They're holding out on releasing it because of a stupid artbook no one wants.

Do you work for Atlus?

Also, your post was extremely rude and hateful when no one was even attacking you directly or indirectly. Get a life.

I was looking forward to playing Persona 3 before I had to go back to school, but it looks like it'll be arriving just as soon as I start back for my one class.

I'm guessing the art book problem was discovered a while ago, and maybe they were just trying to still get it completed before today. They probably realized that it wasn't going to happen, so they had to announce its delay the day prior.

While its disappointing that the game was delayed, I'm glad that Atlus is actually concerned about quality (It seems to becoming a rarity these days). The art book was one of the reasons that actually drove me to preorder the game (that and its an Atlus game that'll be close to impossible to find later... and the fact that Family Video's price ended up at ~$42 after their $5.00 coupon too...), because I know that if I waited and tried to find it used, the art book wouldn't be included.

The art book, soundtrack, and box help justify its $50.00 price tag when most new PS2 games are $40.00 or cheaper.

I'm just hoping that this delay won't hinder sales too much... it would still be cool (though somewhat unlikely) if it did well enough in Atlus's eyes to release the add-on Fes down the line.

Some people just need to calm down. It's just a 3 week delay... don't get me wrong I'm not happy about it. But I don't see a reason to go nuts or boycott their future games because of it.

Yes, I assure you that if it was indeed for the quality of the game then I personally and most normal sane people would not be upset by the delay. However you make the mistake of calling packaging, which should be done a month or so before the game actually ships a part of the product. It probably can be seen as that to some incredibly anal otaku, but for the common people who just want the game, they couldn't give a fuck about a 10-20 page artbook that was stapled or glued. You're also comparing two incredibly different industries. Also what you say is incredibly retarded, because the game is complete, it's beta tested, it's been cleaned up BUT they delayed it because of staples. How does staples on an art book make anyone a beta tester? You seem to have Atlus's balls in one hand their ass in the other while engaging in a group reach around with NISA's greedy Grimgoire's price gouging. Do Atlus fans respect them for this? No. But they have their cock so deep in their throat that they got ejaculated all up in the brain.

Easy everyone, Easy. Some of us are more upset than others, sure-- but lets not get this thread locked or people banned because of it. We will get the game eventually.

how come nobody posts about how Atlus removed a dungeon from the original side quest simply because they didn't want to translate it and were running out of time? Note this is for the first Persona game for the playstation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persona_(video_game)

A section of the game was removed from gameplay, though it was still within the disk. Said section was an alternate quest where, rather than pursuing SEBEC and Guido, the kids find a strange mask in part of the school and learn from Ms. Smith of a legend that it used to belong to the Snow Queen. Trying on the mask, Ms. Smith becomes possessed by the spirit of the Snow Queen, and the entire school becomes a frozen maze with four strange towers growing from the ground at the corners of the school. Though little translated dialogue from this quest exists, Mark was apparently named "Sean" at the time of the Snow Queen localization attempt. Yuki vows to save Ms. Smith, and the teens take off to find a way to save their teacher. The names of the places and characters in the game were also changed in an attempt at Americanization.

Also:
* The main character's look was nearly entirely changed. His facial traits were generally altered, as well as his hairstyle and haircolor. His skin was also changed to be paler/whiter.
* The character, Mark, who was named Masao Inaba in the Japanese version, was changed from a freckled Japanese boy to a token African American character with somewhat offensively stereotypical dialogue.
* Both Nate (Kei Nanjou) and Ellen (Eriko Kirishima) had their hair colors changed from a dark shade of purple (Ellen)/blue (Nate), to blonde. It should also be noted that their faces were much paler, similarly to the hero's.

Dead of Knight: You didn't have to go to the trouble since I thought he was talking about Persona 3. Paco edited his post just before I posted.

Absolutely ridiculous. So now it gets crammed into the busy buying season instead of having these few weeks to dedicate to playing it. All for a fucking art book.

I don't care if they send me the game in a brown paper bag. I just want the game!

:applause: Can't believe we agree so much on this! Will this be the first game ever that we BOTH LIKE? ;)

I agree with Dead of Knight and Rei, this 3 week delay for a stupid artbook is retarded. I was planning on spending the last weeks of my summer playing P3 but thanks to the delay I only have a week after the game ships to speed through the entire thing before college starts for me and I'll have barely anytime to play at all.

They better bring FES to the US (some time later) after making fans wait just for a bloody artbook.
RPG fans are a whiny bunch.
Why? Because nearly every game this year has been complete garbage and now that we have something halfway decent, it's delayed? It's not a matter of people being overly whiny, it's that Atlus has given us a huge disappointment so they can include a completely worthless art book of all things.

It comes out on the same day as Lair and Two Worlds, and a week before Stranglehold and Bioshock now. Four other games I'm getting. Lovely...

I don't know. I have a feeling one of us is going to be complaining about this game when it finally comes out XD

:applause:

This year has been incredibly, incredibly shitty. The only really decent RPG that has come out so far this year is Rogue Galaxy, which is sad (even though RG was an awesome game). And it's not even a true, turn-based RPG. The rest of the year doesn't look too great either, depending on how good certain borderline releases are (Wild Arms 5, for example).
I don't know. I have a feeling one of us is going to be complaining about this game when it finally comes out XD
I hope not... I've watched tons of videos and read a lot of info on it. The one random dungeon for the whole game and the AI-controlled partners bothered me at first, but from the videos, it doesn't seem like they detract a lot from the game. There's a chance I might not like it, but you take that risk with any game.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go replay yet another game that came out years ago so I don't get bored to tears waiting. :wall: God this summer has been terrible for games.

The summer has been great with RPG so far with Tales of the World and Riviera. GrimGrimoire was also enjoyable even though it is a bit short. Brave Story is coming out next week and is looking very good.

Tales of the World- Namco's table scraps given to us for putting up with them not releasing Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Rebirth here.

Riviera- Port/slight remake, doesn't count.

GrimGrimoire- Didn't play because I'm not spending $40 on a 12 hour game.

Tales of the World is good though! And don't forget Ar Tonelico came out this year. One of the best RPGs I've played in awhile.

Also I'm not worried about RPGs this year with Mass Effect coming out. There's still a smoking crater in my basement from where my jaw shot off my skull after viewing the demoing of that game at E3.

I still want Persona 3 now though >.>

Couldn't have said it better myself--- I forgot about Stranglehold! Damn! Hard Boiled on BluRay ;).

I am having as much fun with Tales of the World as any of the main Tales games. I do agree Riviera is not worth it if you already played the GBa version.

The rest of the year should still be good with Jeanne D'Arc (level 5 so it should be great) and Soul Nomad & the World Eaters if you like the NIS formula. Luminous Arc also looks interesting. From square there are Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings and Front Mission which should at least be decent. Phantom Hourglass should still be good even with all the changes. Overall not as good as the last 2 years but not too bad

I'm not even a huge Atlus fan, although I like Disgaea 1 and the other SMT games.

I am anticipating the game too, but I like that the company is putting effort into the full package. Spending 45$ on a game makes me wary, however getting an OST and art book with it make it much easier to swallow.

It bugs me that the main character has no official name ala SMT Nocturne. What are you guys going to name your dudes?

Sorry guys, "Persona noobie" coming through.

I was browsing the PS2 forum and saw this game. Interests piqued, I checked out some trailers, and it looks pretty good. I've no experience with this series, unfortunately, so I have some q's.

1) Is the series connected? I see there's two for PSX. That meaning, do I have to play those two to understand this one or can I just pick it up as an individual entity in the series?

2) Any current deals on it? Preorder or whatever?

I normally name all of my nameless heroes 'Larkin'...

1) Plotwise? No, not really (a few links, but nothing you'll get lost on). But there are themes that do carry over in the Persona series (and the SMT series overall).

2) Best I've heard of is a slight discount at Amazon w/ free shipping. Best bet is see if Fry's drops the price the week of release (managed to snag both DDS game at release for $37, I think).

I am going to use his name from the Japanese manga.

You mean one of the worst RPGs I've played in a while.

Don't get me started, Rei no Otaku. You know my hatred for this game, so much so that you shouldn't have brought it up. You know better. ;)

And I'm currently planning on naming the main character in P3 Hiroshi Yamauchi, though that may change. I have three weeks. :wall:
What are you guys going to name your dudes?
Way to lighten the subject. :applause:

I'll go with either 'TLP' or 'Hero' (being a translation from what the Japanese fan community called him, as I understand it).
How long is P3 supposed to be?
Depending on how you play-- I've heard its between 45 and 80 hours long. Most people will probably fall somewhere in the middle. I can't wait for it-- although now its going to be splintered with the great games coming out the week after. I just got my notification e-mail that the date has been changed from Gamestop.

Which is? I used Kazuma Kaneko in SMTIII. Came up with a name for P3 but have already forgotten it.

Minato Arisato. If you ever get stuck thinking of names just use Shujinkō, which is japanese for protagonist

My Nocturne character was Tetsuo. I forget what the last name was... but Tetsuo was all that was important.

Obviously, an Akira reference.
How long is P3 supposed to be?
Took me 51 hours to beat the US version(I was rushing too)... but I ended up doing MOST things in the game.

Ack! so many pages! Sorry, I just stumbled on this thread and have a question that may have already been answered, but I didn't see it in the OP.

So does every copy of Persona 3 come with the art book and cd, or do I have to preorder it for that stuff? I would like to walk into a place like Best Buy on release and pick up the package if available. Thanks!

Well sure they could have just added 3 months to their launch date and added in more time for troubleshooting. No one would be bitching now if the launch date for the game was in December.

Sure delay's suck. But i'd rather have a delay then a faulty product. It's not like Atlus physically makes the art books, they outsource to a company who makes them and that company screwed up.

Every copy is going to come with an art book and CD in a big box ala DDS. It's their way of thanking fans for waiting 8 years for a sequel.
Didn't Persona 2 come out in fall 2000? It's less than 7 years, plus we got a million SMT side stories.
Indeedy. It actually was in stores on Festivus, 12/23. I remember it being a nice thing to have a game release so close to Christmas.

You're stubbornly stupid. "A stupid artbook no one wants" is simply a false statement. Atlus has been in business for over 20 years, probably longer than you've been alive, if your level of intelligence is any indication, and companies don't survive that long by selling products that no one wants.

Me, get a life? Wah wah, I can't refrain from bitching and moaning about waiting an extra 3 weeks for a sequel to a 5+ year old game. To wit, kill yourself.
Yes, I assure you blah blah blah
Unsurprisingly, both of you failed to recognize the analogy. Of course there is no beta testing involved in this particular situation. What is at issue is selling a completed, quality product versus selling one which requires the customer to take additional action after the initial purchase to obtain the completed product. Still over your head? Still not surprised.

Price gouging? You obviously have no idea what that means outside of the colloquial usage. It's also quite irrelevant, as Grim Grimoire was readily available to purchase without the extras.

You can kill yourself too.
I like how you insult their maturity, and then say things like this. Real mature yourself. You can discuss opposing viewpoints without resorting to insults or being an ass. Lets try and keep it clean in here ok? No reason to start flaming people over a video game.
Why is Atlus saying 8 years?
Because "7" isn't an even number. But honestly who knows, it was released in Japan earlier the same year so they can't be pulling from the Japanese launch date.

And lets keep it nice. Persona is a clean, friendly game, so we should be clean, friendly people.
