Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
While I've never used it myself (so I'm not officially endorsing it) a lot of people on SPUF mention SAM as a way to unlock/relock achievements - usually for TF2.

Needless to say, some caution is advised. But I've seen it enough on the forums to know that it must be mostly legit.

Hope that helps.
Yeah, I've used it to successfully lock/unlock achievements on TF2. It's really easy to use, you can find it here. McAfee gives me a warning, but I ignore it, because I know it's legit as I've used it before (McAfee also gives me a warning for Blizzard LOL).
Awwwwww!!! That's adorable! I wonder if my girlfriend would play it in bed with me. That would be really fun.
If she says no then just pretend a few times you are stuck on a few puzzles and ask for her help. I guarantee next thing you know she will be agreeing to just play it in bed with you. Seriously that game is crack for most people, especially when played together.

I'm still debating about Starscape. The demo was fun, but I'm just wondering if it would ever go any cheaper. Plus i've had my eye on Space Pirates and Zombies...
Try Professor layton. Lay in bed and play it every night for 30-60 mins before bed. Seriously Layton played as a couple = gateway drug for non gamers.
That sounds like a good idea. Time for me to start looking outside of this thread for that, I guess.

Heh you guys will have to let me know how it turns out for you guys. For me it was a matter of an hour or so before she started taking the DS from me to manipulate the puzzles herself vs instructing me how she thought it would be solved ;)

And then, here's the random comment from a female gamer that her husband actually delighted in helping me solve puzzles I was stuck on.

Because I wear the gamer pants in this household. ;)

From what I hear, Kotaku is writing articles with Arkham City spoilers in the headline, so you may want to avoid that game's page on Steam, what with that utterly stupid Kotaku RSS feed they have.

I am really sick of journalists doing that. Gameinformer spoiled two major points of the third Professor Layton game in their review and preview.

+1 on using Layton as a gateway drug. Unfortunately, her next hit came from Puzzle Quest 2 and the long length and lack of concrete ending basically undid all my hard work. Now I am just waiting for the next Layton to come out as all my efforts in the interim (docomodake, ratatouille, trace memory, phoenix wright) have been unsuccessful.

Try the Blue Toad or Puzzle Agent series. They are both similar to Professor Layton and you can find them on everything from steam to IOS devices. My wife and I just recently went through Puzzle Agent as our before bed game and while it was kind of short we both really enjoyed it.

I have a hunch Portal 2 will be the next Midweek Madness deal. The new DLC is coming out Tuesday -- the same day Midweek Madness begins.

And didn't L4D go on sale during DLC releases?
Trauma has been added to the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle. If you've registered FS with Steam, it should already be in your library.
The downside of these HIBs is that you do get your Steam window cluttered with crud like Trauma

Just stick them in a category called "Crud" and keep it closed. :whistle2:#

Bummer dude. My wife went from Layton to Puzzle Quest and it was a flawless victory. PQ2 was such a piece of shit.
Transformers worth it? Was it lower during that summer sale?
My husband is a big Transformers fan, and he enjoyed the game. The environments are a bit bland, but the voice acting is spot-on. Multiplayer is a bit sucky, as there's no voice, IIRC.

Yeah iv got my steam library seperated in to 4 catagories.

1. Favorites
2. Games I play from time to time.
3. Games I will never play again
4. Games I have yet to play.

Tnx, I wish that all previews had game play in them right on the site for those times when you dont want to invest time in the demo or travel to the web searching for game play footage. Hard to tell what games are about with CGI like trailers.

I enjoyed Puzzle Quest 2. If Puzzle Quest was Puzzle Final Fantasy Tactics, Puzzle Quest 2 was Puzzle Diablo 2. I figured that the differences from the original were intentional.

That's not to say that it isn't flawed. Having a finite number of battles and virtually zero replay value are definite detriments, and these are things you should really know going into it, but that single playthrough and the weapon customization involved was fun and hard to set down. That is, until it ends abruptly without closure or reward.

I'm not sure I'm helping its case any.

So if you finish a game that's only OK, is that play from time to time? I use that for puzzle games since I don't play those for long periods of time.
Transformers worth it?
I would say as far as single player goes, no. The game does have a fairly long campaign, but if you are doing it solo (it can be played in co-op if i'm not mistaken) it is extremely boring. It really felt like mindless shooting for the 45+ minute missions. And there is barely any time that you aren't shooting and the only reason I felt like beating the missions was because they only time they added story was actually between the missions and not during them.

The visuals were cool, and the game play was pretty fun, but the campaign was to me, worse than games like Call of Duty. I would rather play their 4 hour campaign than this 8 hour one. At least the pain stops sooner with Call of Duty.
Avadon The Black Fortress $4.99 50% off

Demo on Steam
I'm gonna have to check this Demo out.

I still ain't played much of Escahlon Book 1.
Ain't touched Book 2.

These Indie RPG companies like Spiderweb and Basilisk....they want my $, don't they? :p

Lol... Well that sucks. About 2 months after its release and it goes on sale... Bummer. Haven't even touched it yet... Ah well, at least I supported a good cause. ;)

I liked Avadon pretty well for the first 8 hours or so. Then the bladish environments and giant areas to explore started to get to me. I'm about 12 hours in, and I keep trying to convince myself to go back and play...

It's probably terribly dull but, ah, what the hell.

I am truly blessed in that I have reached the point where I can look at a $5 game and just buy it.

Passed on Transformers because it looked more like a generic Third Person Shooter to me. Also going to pass on today's deal because I do not need another RPG in my life. My DS RPG backlog is already bad enough . Not to mention Skyrim next month.

We all look forward to your scathing comments on it the next time it goes on sale

If I ever get around to playing it, I'll be sure to let you know what I think of it.

I swear though, NOBODY notices the games I praise. :p

Fate of the World: Tipping Point?

Seems to have to original game and some expansion stuff. I'm surprised they didn't offer like, a DLC option to those that already have the original game.

As for me, who has never played it, I guess I would want to get Tipping Point now.

Got Blood Bowl. I would of got Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 but $10 is more than I would want to spend on that game. $6 and we are talking. Not that I can't afford a $10 game, I just have too many games to play.

Actually if you already own it and go to the store page, it gives you an upgrade option. The cost to upgrade is $5.19, which isn't too bad when you consider that the DLCs cost 12 bucks together. Although one of the DLCs was available for free during the summer sale for tickets (the Denial DLC) and the Extras pack is just dev notes and a soundtrack.

Also, it seems like people who already own it can buy the game at that same upgrade price for gifting purposes. That's 73% off the total cost of the game plus DLC.

Still going back and forth on Blood Bowl...

I highly recommend Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 if you're into theme park builders. I loved that game back then and I still find myself returning to it now and again.

If you've been eyeing this game at all, I'd say today is the day to buy it. The last time I recall RCT3 go on sale was the Winter Sale of '09 and the Summer Sale of '10; again, it was for the same price reduction. I doubt it will go any cheaper either.

Alternatively, GOG.com has RCT1 Gold and RCT2 Gold (both includes all expansions) for $5.99 and $9.99 respectively.

It was very nostalgic to be able to play these games fully optimized for Windows 7 (RC1 was my first PC game).

Yeah I've been eying up RCT1 and 2 on gog.com all week, but now I just found a demo of RCT3 so I'll fire that up and check it out. I have a feeling I'll pick up one of the three today :)
