Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I think I'm interpreting this correctly, but is this Rolling Skull posting from his in-car mounted phone?
wow thanks. I'm not sure which one she is stuck on. She loves getting most achievements usually though. She likes choose your own adventure books and games, so this game has her hooked. I'll pass along the guide, it looks good.
Thank you very much.
No problem, Glad someone else is addicted to the game as well. :whee:
Newegg sent an email out that they are doing a promotion giving away Borderlands 2 if you buy an Nvidia GTX660ti card.

Those cards will run you around $300 so it's not really a deal unless you were already planning to do a video card upgrade anyway, but figured I'd throw it out there in case anyone was looking for a new (mid to high end) card.
Also eVGA has the Borderlands 2 promo with their cards (660 and up) from Newegg, Amazon, NCIX, and others if you are a sales-tax-avoiding-CAG. Details on eVGA.

Mildly tempting since I'd been waiting for the 660 to evaluate my upgrade options from my GTX 260 c216 SC (which has been quite a champ).
Yeah, it's been that way for a while.

I started Alan Wake about a week ago, but haven't committed myself yet. Coming right off playing L.A. Noire, the cutscenes were a bit shockingly mannequin-ish. Also, gotta find that comfort zone, of KB/M vs controller, tweaking settings to get an optimal experience, and getting discouraged that there are *multiple* immersion-breaking collectibles for 100% in addition to needing to replay it to access the hardest difficulty setting. Mental hurdles suck.
I just finished a playthrough of the base game and will be starting the "DLC" content soon. The story is pretty interesting if blatantly derivative and depending on your skill level/restart tolerance you may want to play on "Easy," as I and a rare few others found the combat sequences could be very frustrating.

By the way, does anybody know if you can listen to the developer commentary without actually replaying the game? I'm interested but not THAT interested. I generally have to really like a game to play it more than once.
difficulty levels should go hard, extreme, nightmare, extreme nightmare, blind (no video) and extreme blind nightmare reformat your drive if you die mode.

Thanks! I won a GTX 680 and other parts from EVGA a few months ago but havent registered them. I registered today. We will see if I get a code.

I never change the difficulty levels or replay a game on hard, not even when I had time to play a game multiple times. I made an exception with Fallout 3 since it was frustrating me, and really enjoyed it for the story and exploration elements. With Fallout New Vegas, I'll try to start on Normal.

I was just looking for a 660 Ti yesterday, and no one had them listed, so this is awesome news to me. Then I can sell the game and get back $40, woot woot!

The way 2-packs and 4-packs work is that you must not own the game in the first place. Then when purchased, one is put in your game list like a standard purchase and 1 or 3 in your inventory depending on the pack size. It sucks.

When you buy a 4-pack the first copy is immediately attached to your library.

Ah, ok. Never bought a multipack before.

Hmmm, picking up Sniper Elite DLC and V1 unless Amazon price matches. Just finished V2, great game, on my second play through right now on the hardest level and can't wait to kill hitler. Great price on Alan Wake, but still passing til its 5 bucks for everything.

I read somewhere that the Hitler DLC is about 2-3 minutes and was a preorder bonus. Just keep that in mind. you would probably be better off skipping it and using it toward Alan Wake. That being said, I still want the satisfaction of shooting Hitler but would be able to swallow it much easier at $1
Any idea where the name came from yet?

Oh, Piss lets you know where the title comes from in the first minute of gameplay.

Yeah, I know it was a pre-order bonus, but like this is literally my favorite game I've played this year, so even three more minutes is worth it. Plus I paid $14.99 so less than $20 for the complete experience a few months after release is fine by me :)

How have I not heard of this game?

So I have been playing Tower Wars a ton these past couple of days and just want to note how freaking awesome it is for competitive tower defense players.

The whole third-person, no-aiming thing put me off a bit, being a born-again twitchmonkey, but I'm going to stick with the hardest difficulty available. I don't want to play this thing through 3 times. Also, it's rather annoying that they renamed the difficulty settings for the PC version but left the labels unchanged in the Steam achievement descriptions. Took me a bit of Googling to discover that after the initial confusion.

I have 2 beta invites as well, but I opted in to a client beta right before the TF2 coop update, so I'm not sure if I'm already in it or what. My cursory glance can't tell what's different aside from the TF2 game hub, which is ridiculously endless in page length. I hate those. It's Facebookization AND Tumblrization.

Guys, guys...it's AVWW (A Valley Without Wind) and not AVVW. ;)

Got two invites to the Steam Community beta access and redeemed one for myself. Anyone else from this thread who wants one, just send me a PM with your e-mail address. And I have a 75% off Portal 2 coupon for the first of my Steam friends to ask for that on my Steam profile page. We have to be friends to send and receive coupons.
Got on Steam today and randomly had a 75% off Portal 2 coupon. Not bad!
Yeah, i just had one of those coupons show up in my inventory too. Unfortunately, I already own Portal 2, so it's of no use to me.
Yeah, i just had one of those coupons show up in my inventory too. Unfortunately, I already own Portal 2, so it's of no use to me.
Same here, plus I have an extra copy in my inventory for a friend. XD Maybe I can buy another copy and try and trade for Half life 2 or something, we'll see.
Is AVVW similar to terraria co-op and how is that game? The music sounds so nice from the trailer.
I'm assuming. I've never actually tried the mutliplayer. I don't know anyone else who has it that plays it.

I'll have to see if I can launch it in a second window and connect to myself like I can with Terraria.

If it goes on sale soon that would be AWESOME!

I was hoping to get another copy for my secondary account but was only going to spend like $2.50 for it. If it goes 50% off then the coupon stacks that would be nice.

Even now if it works on a two pack that makes each copy $4.xx

The same supports multiple windows open at once. At least the non-steam version does. I ran a stand-alone server in a seperate window that I ran from the game client and opened a second window to connect to it.

Battle vs. ChessCheck vs. Mate is back and 25% off ($14.99) until August 23rd.

Commanders, assemble your armies! CHECK VS. MATE calls for an interactive feather duster, chartering the successful chess game principle into the present day multi-media world. Animated fantasy figurines assemble in magical worlds and await your command!
Genre: Action, Strategy, Casual

This was listed and pulled pretty quickly a week or two ago. I believe people had trouble getting their keys for it at the time. The Steam news post even lists it as Battle vs. Chess. Oops.

Apparently everyone who owns Portal 2 gets a coupon. It's valid between August 16th, 2012 through August 30th, 2012. I just got mine after it finished downloading the update.

Odd that the community beta is not tradable, but says, "This gift will become tradable on Aug 16, 2012" - which is today.

I didn't get one... I updated and accepted into the new Community Beta, but no Portal 2 coupon. And yes I own the game.

Ubisoft selling rootkits for $1, lol. I can find those for free!!!!!! Surf porn for an hour and you'll get at least and possibly several more all for free!!!!
Think I'll pass on the Ubisoft crap and its convoluted digital rights management.

Also I need to check my inventory, see what the powers that be deem me worthy of receiving.....

Wow, no coupon for Secrets of the Magic Crystals.
But for the two people out there that don't have it, I have a shiny new coupon for

Same here. No coupon for my copy that came from a PS3 key.
wow someone in steamgifts is now selling Portal 2 coupons for $5. Cream of the crap over there.
Gross.

I may need one myself but I am testing it out first to see how well it can even run on the girlfriend's laptop.

All I know is that they said, "so we're giving everyone a coupon to pass along to a potential co-op partner." So 'everyone' (that owns it) should get one regardless of key or direct purchase. Maybe they're giving them away in batches or something - no clue though.
I didn't, but I suppose it could be because my copy was from a key and not purchased from Steam.
That could be a possibility. Maybe it's suppose to be just for those that directly purchased it from Steam.

Genre: Action, Strategy, Casual

This was listed and pulled pretty quickly a week or two ago. I believe people had trouble getting their keys for it at the time. The Steam news post even lists it as Battle vs. Chess. Oops.
Hmm, hopefully it actually works this time. I'm assuming it still has the same crappy DRM.
wow someone in steamgifts is now selling Portal 2 coupons for $5. Cream of the crap over there.
The logic behind selling coupons for something more than 10-15% of a game's value is beyond me.

But for the two people out there that don't have it, I have a shiny new coupon for
75%
OFF
Coupon
For
Skyrim
Portal
2

Pm me if you want it through Steam (Pm me on Steam and I'll give it to you.
Crap, I have two beta community crap things, anyone want them I'll pay you 1 cent for your trouble.
Edit: Gone

Back to A Valley Without Wind. The developers have good communication over at their forums, blog and the Steam forums too and they've been really open to feedback. A lot of the feedback was that people didn't care for the art, and I kind of agree. They are planning on redoing the artwork and some other things with a big update soon. Originally they thought to maybe sell it as an expansion or do a Kickstarter but they said that neither of those things sat well with them so it's going to be a free update.

They also said that my key would eventually register to Steam. Hasn't happened yet.

Yeah I remember that and holding off on getting it from them because of it.

Supposedly, they are having troubles getting it from Valve or some such but seing as other developers are able to do it, if that really is the case they should lean on them harder.

Seems so; though now after learning about the whole issue over Interplay and the court battle, I'll pass. I mean why settle for some Battlechess knock off when BattleChess is actually getting remade by Interplay
