Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'll just go ahead and answer the next 50 pages of questions:

Q: Is there a chance [X game] will go on sale?

A: This question answers itself. The very definition of the word "chance" means there is always a possibility of the game you want going on sale. The better question would be how much of a sale, but it's still not a very good question because nobody here works for Valve (...right?).

Q: Do you think [X game] will be cheaper?

A: No. Games stay at their release prices for eternity. That is why Skyrim is still $60.

Sometimes I get the feeling people don't really think about what they are asking, or even why.

Well got back from xmas. So I bought that Tomb Raider pack. I mean $15 for 9 games, god dammit. I was going to buy Castle Crashers, I was really fucking considering it until my friend gifted me it for the badge so I own it :D.

In case people haven't realized, you can just buy a game as a gift and redeem it into your library to get the badge.

Actually, you should buy games as gifts anyway, in case you feel buyer's remorse afterwards and want to trade it on. :bouncy:
Damn, I was really looking forward to RA too. Oh well.
I'm sure RA will be a daily or flash sale eventually, I think every community vote choice ended up in the sale rotation anyways during the last sale.

Yeah but I rarely feel remorse for buying a game til after I play it and it's bad or not what I thought it was.

Well, semantics aside, I asked the question re: AC III because I haven't been following the Steam thread lately, and wasn't aware of what the current situation was in regards to Steam/Ubi games.

While it's possible that no one in the thread may work for Steam, there certainly are people here who have a wealth of knowledge regarding how the steam deals usually work as well as the current relationship between Valve and a particular publisher.

Just an FYI on my thought process (yes, it did exist) when posting my question.

Pity, I was hoping for Dark Messiah, partly for the Christmas irony but mostly because I slept on it during the Summer Sale but did grab RA3 during the sale. Civ IV I just don't get voting for with the 2K Strategy Pack on Amazon, but that's just me...
I googled it. They seem to just post box art to games with no real information. I'd make one, but I don't follow the industry enough to know what's considered underrated. I just buy whatever I hear you guys or my RL friends talking about.

It would be really awesome, though, to have a list of lesser known titles that are still quality.

fuck it, I'll make a list of what I know.
I don't find lists like the one they have on NeoGAF to be terribly helpful. I could come up with a similar list by sorting the Steam catalog by price in reverse order. There's usually little or no info to go along with them either and I outright disagree with many of them as I browse through. Lots of times I get the feeling that people are just trying to get a suggestion onto the list and it ends up being more comprehensive than useful.

I'd much rather see personal recommendations on fewer games... games people truly feel deserve the attention.

Oh I got the badge by buying a game as a gift and redeeming it myself but I guess my friend was in a holiday mood. Either way I got Castle Crashers :D
YES! Dead Rising 2 Complete for 75% off. That is THE deal I was hoping for. Totally makes up for all the crappy deals.. for me at least ;)
happy for you
even if i don't want it, at least it is a good deal

That's cool, and I wasn't trying to call you out. That kind of question just seems to get asked a lot and it is starting to drive me nuts. :bouncy:

Hello Steam I missed you :D Bought!

Wait what? Capcom at 75% off?

I don't even want it but I feel compelled to buy it.

*Edit: Bought. I feel like I must encourage more of this sort of behavior from Capcom in the future.

Also on a completely unrelated note, I voted for Tropico 4 because I think it's the best of the bunch because A) Sim City is nice but dated as hell and B) Anno loses 1000 points for awful multiple layers of restrictive DRM. That and it's been on sale already for two whole days.
not sure if this is the thread to ask but it is for steam. is there a steam key trading only thread on this forum?
Theres a link on the OP
oooo DR2 for 75% off.... Whats off the record? is it DLC or a whole new game

Question to those who played Skyrim.

So 60+ hours into my game, haven't touched the main quest. Do I do the main quest or Dawnguard? Just bought Dawnguard yesterday.

It doesn't really matter honestly. Do what you feel like. Either works or do neither and wander and do other stuff but since you just bought the DLC I kind of think you might want to check it out at least.

Question! Since Microsofts GFWL is in DR2, does that mean achievements will carry over to my Xbox profile ala Batman Arkham City? It'll help my purchasing decision. (Don't judge!)

Off the Record is basically Dead Rising 2 with Frank West as the main character. It has a new area, some plot differences and a sandbox mode as well.

Yes they will. Also, even if you've already played the 360 version of DR2, you can get the achievements again since the PC version is counted as a separate game.

No im pretty 100% certain steam achievements will not carry over to the xbox.
Not sure if thats what you were asking.

lol I will agree with you on this one
on this topic, can you just log into your live account in game and get achievements? is that the extent of g4wl?

I'm tempted to buy it (and I didn't like the first Dead Rising) as a means of showing Capcom that with good sales, we'll buy stuff.

Todays deals are awesome. The deal for Dead rising 2 is awesome. Makes me regret grabbing off the record for $10 during the summer sale as I still haven't touched it. Thankfully it doesn't sound like I am missing anything but not having the orignal dead rising 2. Any of the dlc worth it? Seems just like some silly outfits and weapons.

Aww, I do want Mark of the Ninja, but I was hoping (perhaps unrealistically) for $5. Guess I'll be waiting until the Summer sale or a bundle inclusion on that one. Vote tossed to Tropico 4 which means Sim City will probably win... don't think I've voted for a single winner all sale.

Honestly I'm seriously thinking about just getting OTR for $7.50 -- I know the first game is a different 'campaign' but it's basically the same locations and such.

same except just get the original DR2 not sure if all the other stuff is worth it. I just want to run around and kill zombies.
voted for tropico I saw stratagy and simulation so Im sold :p

seriously if tropico 4 doesnt win we need to figure out where these votes are coming from and destroy them because we are having a pretty terrible run with these votes cag
there is really no justification for not voting for tropico for unless maybe you really want anno and were in a hole for 2 days
