Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Thanks! I'm working on moving the hosting at the moment so it might be down for a few hours :( It started as a template but I've customized the color scheme / css / buttons / etc to make it not suck. ;)

Also, this:

I like the 'purchased ' info. Maybe add retail (ie not bought on Steam) vs bought on Steam?

Sometimes I find myself going. Wait, where did I get that from again?

I suppose with the keys it's technically activated on X date since you can always hold off on adding the keys for a while.

Yeah it's basically just pulling the information from the "Store Transactions" tab at

https://store.steampowered.com/account/

Then matching the title and pulling the date from that row. Again this would be nice if Valve would implement this, as I'm sure they have this info and it would be super easy for them to do. Some stuff won't work, for example the Humble Bundle keys etc. Some stuff activated elsewhere *should* work, as it'll be taking out the common terms like "comp", "retail", etc.

I also wish Steam separated multiple purchases on that page instead of lumping them together. Otherwise (if purchased on Steam) I could put "Purchased Oct 5, 2012 for $14.99" but since I purchased it along with a few other items, it would incorrectly say "Purchased on Oct 5, 2012 for $23.99".... oh Valve...

EDIT: Also, you and Spoony will be happy to know that I finally got it working to where your owned games will highlight on your wishlist page, making them easy to identify and remove.

Thank you! That was a HUGE pain in the butt going through that wishlist periodically and figuring out what the hell was on it that I already owned.

should be changed to:

"purchased on . Hours played . . . zero. And you were going to buy it again?"
Unless that're using an awful drive, it should be faster than any USB2 version.

The 2.5" externals usually use drives similar to those found in low/mid-range laptops, so it should be fine. However, it will be slower than a 3.5" USB3/eSATA external (more so if compared to with the Seagate 3.5" ones which AFAIK don't use slower "green"-type drives like WD does.)

As long as you have a USB3 port on your computer, it should be fast enough. If you don't, then it will just connect at USB2.0 speeds and will be slow.

Right. Don't assume because your drive is USB 3 that the PC you connect it to will be. At this point 90% of PCs don't have USB3. If you check the USB slots on your PC and they aren't blue then it's probably not 3.0 compliant.
Thanks guys! Dont have a gaming desktop. Only have macbook pro 2012. it has usb 3.0. Tired of playing games on mac os x. so i finally got to buy windows 7 for bootcamp. Brought alot of windows based games during the recent sales abd will finally able to try them out once i get the drive. Hehe!

Ah okay. Maybe more Macs have usb 3.0. I know Intel was being a pain in the ass about it and dragging their feet for years because they had some other crappy format that wasn't backwards compatible and nobody wanted that they kept trying to promote.

Is this feature live now in 1.6? It's not working for me on Hotline Miami, which I own and also have on my wishlist.

Admittedly, it could be timing out because I have so much crap on my wishlist.

It's gonna be in version 1.7 which I'll probably be posting up to Google soon. I'll keep you all posted - it's going to be a pretty good update.
With a little more work jshackles, you could probably get a job at Valve.
You'd be surprised how many people have told me that lately! :D

I already have two jobs
(one in the gaming industry, actually)
and kids in school etc etc so I think even if they wanted to hire me, it'd have to be for some pretty awesome amount of cash. Unless they were willing to let me telecommute - then I'd have three jobs! :bouncy:

Just realized that Valve is only about 2 1/2 hours away from where I currently live... For some reason I always thought they were in southern California.

So - maybe... ;)

They do have a history of hiring people who modify their products in interesting ways.

This whole thing where I make it to the end of the thread and later come back and refresh and it's still at the end of the thread seems alien and unnerving to me.

Yeah I've been noticing that too. It's strange to come back and check the thread and there not be multiple new pages.

Alright everyone, Enhanced Steam has been updated to v1.7 with the following changes:

 • Wishlist pages will now highlight games you own
 • (Some) of the games you own will show the "purchase date". If you didn't purchase the game on Steam, it will be the date you activated the key. I know there are some bugs with this, but I thought it'd be best to push out what I had and let people test at this point.
 • I've updated the logos and links in the options page to point to www.EnhancedSteam.com
 • I've updated the extension's icon

These last two items were to try and minimize my risk of using Valve's trademark logo-handle-gear-thingy.

Sadly, I'm not sure if the purchase date thing will ever fully work
unless Valve offers me a job

Remember, to update go to Menu -> Extensions -> (make sure developer mode is checked) -> Update Extensions Now. It should also automatically update the next time you restart Chrome.

Thanks for the update. This extension is getting better :)

the biggest bug I could find that most people will run into: The purchase date cannot account correctly for sequels of games. Things like Darksiders and Darksiders II look almost identical to the parser, so they're likely to return an incorrect date for at least one of them.

Additionally, not everything on Steam has the same naming conventions there, so for example Skyrim shows up on the account page (for me at least) simply as "Skyrim" but the product page shows it as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim", which means it won't pull the date at all. The same goes for most games that have a TM at the end of their name.

Anyway, I'm interested to get a feel from people as to how much of a hit and miss this is with the games they own.

Also Motoki - I expect to see your wishlist shrink considerably!

Figured I'd ask this here:

Is there a site that tracks which indie games appeared in which bundles? I think I may already have a game but can't remember where I bought it, and an email search turns up nothing. Thanks in advance.

I believe you're looking for this site: http://indiegamebundle.wikia.com

It'll also be added to Enhanced Steam soon!

EDIT: Ninja'd by fox!

^Thanks to both of you! I keep a spreadsheet of every digitial purchase I have made since 2007, but this past year there were so many that I just got lazy. :D

I actually only had 3 owned games on it and Enhanced Steam caught them all. The only reason I didn't have more is because I went through the painstaking process of 'Wait do I own this game? Let me check' 'Wait do I own this game? Let me check' one by one recently.

And I still missed a few apparently.

Anyway, this is a huge help, thanks.

Search the game title here. Doing so tells you which bundle(s) the game was in. If there are no results, then the game likely wasn't in any bundle. Alternatively, you can search "X indie bundle", where X would be the title of the game.

For instance, typing "Super Meat Boy" yields this. Skimming through the results, you'll see the bundles it was in.

Usually, I'd just search for "Super Meat Boy Indie Bundle Wiki" in Google and it'll usually be in the first 5 results. However, that's just my personal preference.

Anyway in case anyone is wondering, http://www.EnhancedSteam.com (as a webpage, not yet as a service) is just about 100% finished. Feel free to tell your friends about it. I also tried to explain all of the major features with screenshots and an explanation, which I hope answers some people's questions. For example, check out this feature description. :whistle2:#

Awesome! That annoyed me too! I used to delete stuff from my wishlist because it didn't have a picture. You don't have a picture? Well off you go! I don't wish for you anymore!

Just spent an hour and a half playing Don't Starve. It's really cool. It's a survival game, where you're exploring your environment and discovering how to hunt, gather resources, and understand your limitations.

For example, there are rabbits in abundance. You can construct things like an axe and pickaxe, but unless you
corner a rabbit or get between it and its hole, they're going to get away from you 90% of the time. I'd found a few carrots in the world which my starving character had eaten, but suddenly, it dawned on me that I might use carrots as bait. After putting the carrot down and backing away, the rabbits slowly approach. Once they begin to feed, you can walk up to them and slay them victoriously, claiming precious, life-giving meat.

I've been impressed with the game. You start with a randomly generated world, and you can get a new world at any time. Although you will die frequently, you retain some of your intelligence (which allows you to craft new items) so that your previous sessions aren't a complete waste. Also, you gain XP, which appears to be used to unlock two unlockable characters.
For example, check out this feature description. :whistle2:#
This is mind-blowing. All this time, I'd assumed that it wasn't showing icons for specific items (usually pittance DLC or games that have been delisted from the store that I keep on my list for yucks) because said icons didn't exist. So it's a bug that Valve just hasn't bothered to address? Huh.

Yeah it annoyed me enough to fix it. :) That fix has actually been in place since 0.4 I believe.

Yep it's just a bug. When Valve loads those icons for the wishlist, it loads them from http://media.steampowered.com/steamcommunity/public/images/ and when they're loaded onto the game page they're loaded from http://cdn.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/

So it was easy to just pick out the wishlist items that use this image: http://media.steampowered.com/steamcommunity/public/images/avatars/33/338200c5d6c4d9bdcf6632642a2aeb591fb8a5c2.gif

338200c5d6c4d9bdcf6632642a2aeb591fb8a5c2.gif

And replace it using the correct image from the store. I'm pretty sure that bug has existed for years, and why Valve hasn't fixed it yet is beyond me. In the script, it's 9 lines of code. Granted, this is a kind of "long way around" patch.
That seems like way too long in rendering. Sounds like someone needs some cloud computing, or at least a Beowulf cluster. Buy a bunch of shitty computers, quick!
I will never pay per cpu to outsourc my rendering. I built a 24cpu render farm for my work. It's just the joy of a 1 man operation and deadlines these contractors seem to always bump up on me. They get billed time and a half for these late nights.
As if anyone could fall asleep to Season 5 of Atlantis!
The end of Season 5 has been..well random. Episodes thrown in there with no real context to story. It also seems they are just shrugging off other story lines.

I got in 30ish kills of The Warrior between last night and this morning and saw 3 e-tech shotguns and I finally had a Conference Call drop for me. I'm not sure how to quantify that other then that's a lot better drops then I have ever seen from it before. Hrmmm, I'm not sure what grenade to look for today tho.

some other games, too.

I spent four hours on I Am Alive, and the game is breaking my damn heart. It's not the story, I haven't found one of those yet. It's the volumes of wasted potential. It's like the developers would brush up against something awesome, and immediately pulled back.

The designated climbing areas are the biggest sin. You can't just explore anywhere, there are very specific areas that you're allowed to platform. To make it more upsetting, they sometimes use art assets from places you can climb in places you can't. So when I see a metal bar sticking out, I hit the controller to take me there, and nothing happens. Meanwhile my stamina bar is almost empty, and I'm screwed if I don't end the climb in seconds.

If it had been open world, I could at least enjoy climbing around exploring, but alas, that's not the case. You walk around on the streets (usually choking on dust, draining your stamina) looking for pipes that you can use to climb to the roof of a building. That's it. Walk around looking for stuff that you'll probably use up trying to get to different stuff.

Also, as far as I can tell, rescuing people only gets you a retry, and some hint about the game itself. You can't horde the retries, either. If you know you're at a save point and you die, they force you to use the retry instead of letting you load the save, even though both are going to take you to the exact same area.

The combat is repetitive. You stand there, waiting for them to walk up on you with a machete, then you slit one dude's throat, and point your gun at the other. This is one of the cool aspects, as the AI will become intimidated by your gun and back off. But, of course, they had to mess that up also. After twenty or thirty seconds, the AI will just magically know that your gun doesn't have any bullets in it and charge you. There's also zero chance that you can survive a three-on-one encounter. So if you don't do something in those twenty or thirty seconds, you might as well reload. Oh, and if you engage in a struggle kill with one AI, the other AI's will come up and knife you to death from behind before you can finish killing the first guy, so don't bother.

If it was me, I'd have made it so you could sneak to avoid combat scenarios. In a survival situation, I imagine I'd be much more likely to run and hide than risk injury taking on three guys at once. Then, to facilitate the emphasis against combat, I'd have made it so you could climb anywhere. Thus the heart of the game would focus on climbing to avoid enemies and find resource. As for the resources, it would be more about searching through buildings, not walking the streets looking for a glowing object in the back of an alley. I would keep the intimidation by pistols, but dump the QTE combat, if you had to fight, you better hit and run.

It just could have been so awesome, and instead, it's lame. I haven't been this disappointed since Brink.

I don't love that it's just 50% off, but $2.49 is a nice price if it is a decent game.

I might have to check this out soon. I have been enjoying Tokyo Jungle (animal survival rather then human survival) on my PS3 and the concepts sound similar although possibly more complex in Don't Starve. My pomeranian gets a lot of mating action though so there ya go!

I played the first (Gravity Bone) and enjoyed it (it's free on the developer's website, BTW). It is EXTREMELY short (supposedly 30 Flights is also very short), but I really enjoyed my 20 or 30 minutes with it. I would recommend downloading the free Gravity Bone... if you like that, you will like 30 Flights (which I started, but then it got lost in my backlog). The games are intriguing and all about the story. 2.50 is a good price, but see if you like Gravity Bone first (it's a small download).
