Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
wow they really did just put Quake on sale and nothing else from it, wtf Steam
Damned funny though, kind of sums up the whole sale so far...
I am glad that I am not the only one going crazy that its just Quake 1 that's on sale for 75% off and not the Collection. I'd buy the Quake Collection for $7.49 but definitely not the original game for $2.49.
Just hold tight. I guarantee that it's a glitch. There's just no way that they decided to only have the first game on sale for 75% off.

They'll have it fixed soon.
Don't start. We just become BFFs and now you want to ruin the honeymoon? I'm hurt.
BFFs? I thought we were married!
But seriously. If I want game X in Steam for whatever reasons that's my own god damned business and I don't care if other people don't like it or think it makes no sense. It's my money to spend or not spend how I want.

I'm not sure why this issue bugs some people so much.I don't try to tell other people where they should buy their games so it would be kind of nice to have the same respect.
I thought we were talking in hypotheticals all this time.
Worst Steam sale ever, bar none. Nobody tell me it's because I own everything because I don't. If you don't objectively see how this has been the worst major Steam sale to date then you haven't been following the past sales for the last few years. Fortunately Amazon, GMG, and GG (lulz) have provided alternatives this winter sale season.
I blame the economist. Seriously.

I'm just glad I got my publisher packs before they sucked.

And before I had everything. :p

Not voting for anything. Silent protest. Can't imagine there are people without Dota 2 yet nor would I enable them to make the colossal mistake of paying for it. Portal 2 and Counterstrike Derp have been on sale a bajillion times already.

Also I'm bitter GMG ran out of Alpha BROtocol keys.
isn't it supposed to be free to play?
It is. That is the reason why I voted on it, I want to see how mindless the average steam user is and if this is going to get on top 10 selling titles. Now that would be funny,:bouncy:
Cool people vote for Portal 2.
You bet your ass they do. Look how cool I am. Just watch me vote for it. You watching? You better be. Here I go! Wait I don't think you're watching . . .
I blame the economist.
i'm an entry-level economist
and you are probably right
but it should also mean that the sales will be way better the last couple days
(get people to buy stuff that are holding out while getting as much as you can out of everyone else in the beginning)

If you guys keep bitching about how shitty this sale is, they will start charging us to add mods to our games.......

In before their economist reads this thread and takes that idea and runs with it....

Who doesn't have it already?!??! I think I have gotten like... five gift copies of it. Some people have gotten dozens to give away.

No more funny than the people buying the Farcry package when the ala carte woulda saved them 7 bucks.

P.S. I don't have DOTA 2... but I figured with all those euro/pacific keys I saw on Steamgifts I'd vote for it for others :)
Who doesn't have it already?!??! I think I have gotten like... five gift copies of it. Some people have gotten dozens to give away.
I don't have it, but I don't want it either.
Wasn't DOTA2 a flash or daily sale earlier for only 50% off? And now they're offering it as a potential 75% off in a user choice sale?
This is what Steam does best. The good ol' gotcha. Ask all the people who gave in and bought Jade Empire last sale only to have that *#&!@$# go on sale right after. It was hilarious to watch the cries of foulplay.

I actually did not get a beta invite yet. Does the (nominal) stuff that comes with the early access starter pack also come if I just eventually end up getting a beta invite?
OK, so what's with two (yes, 2) Toys R Us threads being stickied at the top of the "Video Game Deal" forum, and the Steam Thread not?? Those 2 threads together only get 19,679 views, while this one thread gets 351,669 and that's damn near just 2 weeks after having started (V6 roll-over) and with one of the biggest sales of the year currently going specific to that thread. wtf? What determines which threads get stickied?
Now, they've added Best Buy too. wth?
Wasn't DOTA2 a flash or daily sale earlier for only 50% off? And now they're offering it as a potential 75% off in a user choice sale?
Yeah, it was 50% off before, weird that they are doing it for 75% off now, maybe it sold like dogshit at 50% off? I don't remember what the top seller list looked like when it was up.

Hmm 50% off for useless virtual crap or 75% off for useless virtual crap?

How about 100% off for useless virtual crap and then we'll talk.

Probably the economist told them it wasn't selling at 50 off.
I actually did not get a beta invite yet. Does the (nominal) stuff that comes with the early access starter pack also come if I just eventually end up getting a beta invite?
Nope. It's exclooooooooooooooooooosive content!
The only thing I'm hoping for is that Killing Floor goes back on 75% off and the DLC stays at 75% so I can finally buy the last few ones I need.
I highly doubt that it's going to happen.
Now, they've added Best Buy too. wth?
Looks like it's some sort of sponsored / paid sticky.

I'm sure they dropped it to 75% because no one was buying it at 50% of course it's a nice slap in the face to those who were stupid enough to buy it at 50% off... or to pay at all.
Now, they've added Best Buy too. wth?
This site is 95% consoles and they don't give a shit about us

That and Cheapy ain't gettin no money from Valve.
I actually did not get a beta invite yet. Does the (nominal) stuff that comes with the early access starter pack also come if I just eventually end up getting a beta invite?
Nop, but the items are not worth anything at all. They are merely cosmetic and I believe most of them can be got for free just by playing.

If you want a beta invite, throw me a pm with your steam id ;)

You know, it just occurred to me that the Sonic franchise pack made a return as a flash deal the other day and it was glitched
(many of the games in the pack that were there when it was a daily weren't listed in the store page when it returned as a flash deal. Supposedly the pack still contained all the games, but the store page only listed half of them)
for the entire run as a flash deal. They either were unable to fix it, or they didn't notice.

It's just possible that they wont fix the Quake discount either.

They just don't care. Too busy selling copies of the Far Cry franchise to people who can't add.
Here's Binding of Isaac + DLC 5FJHZ-V3QXV-RP7VI
And here's Cave Story+ HPH4M-HMWL3-DG2A2

I hope your kindness comes back to you. Good Sir.
Thank you very much.
I mean... I held out hope that they would start putting in some new games the next few days but I don't see it. My guess is the next five or so days are just going to be games that have already been put up for sale. I'm thinking they've cycled through everything by now but I'm sure that's not the case so you'll see stuff like... Gianna Sisters as a daily and uh... KOTOR as a flash, etc. Probably also have dailies for Snapshot and Closure, too.
You're probably right, but there are a few things I haven't seen yet that I had expected:
Risen (1&2)
Gothic/Arcania
Heroes of Might & Magic

Anything else?

Fallout games haven't appeared yet. We might also see a return of Dragon Age as a daily. Possibly even Crusader Kings.

Couple of questions: Is Endless Space worth it?

Are there any other games like FTL on steam? I am so angry at this game but I can't stop playing it...

And how do people keep getting DOTA2 invites? I can't decide if I'm jealous or relieved I've never gotten one.
Any lists of games that I should buy that are under advertised, appreciated, rated? Usually see one ore more this time of the sale
+1

And also maybe addictive?
My most addictive games on steam for me personally are Terraria, New Vegas (mods omg), Civ 5, Skyrim, and Sims 3. I love time sinks. Especially ones that cost me 5$.

Appears to be a hidden flash sale on Frozen Synapse for 80 percent off. Given the last glitch that means there are likely two other glitches somewhere.
WTF? It says I already own Dota 2? This is my first time visiting the page to even consider buying it. How do I have it?
This just happened to me too. No idea how, and I was the one who was just wondering about the Dota 2 beta keys.
Appears to be a hidden flash sale on Frozen Synapse for 80 percent off. Given the last glitch that means there are likely two other glitches somewhere.
Thanks. Just bought the Red DLC. I wish I had caught the 90% glitch during the Summer sale. But I wasn't gonna pass up 80% again.

I have noticed that this happened to me. Seeing as how I am not an avid PC gamer who does not know what DOTA 2 is I am not too concerned.

Oh great... that'll probably be one of the next flash sales... unreal.

Quick catch up skim and didn't see anyone else mention it, so a quick PSA for the Need For Speed Flash sale: Shift 2 is also 75% off, I mention this because I got burned on the Summer sale buying Shift 1 because they didn't include Shift 2 with the rest of the NFS titles on the sale screen even though it is part of the flash sale. So yeah, if you are considering it NFS: Shift, just get Shift 2 Unleashed for the same price.

Also Hot Pursuit is actually a lot more fun than I expected it to be. Think of it as Burnout 4 or 5 or whatever number it left off with before going all sandboxy with Paradise and I think you'll have a good time with it. Well worth the $5 in my opinion.

Shift 2 is entertaining and a reasonably well done "sim" racer, but if you have a console and access to Forza 4 or Gran Turismo 5, it's pretty unnecessary in comparison. If you're PC only though, could do a lot worse than $5 for it.

Even better....Doom Rails is current showing as a daily for today at $0.74 with 36 hours left. Means it will most likely actually be one of the Daily Deal for tomorrow
