Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

The Still Life games look good... I don't know anything about the other ones, though. Any thoughts?

Also, here's the link to the CAG thread on Bundlestars, in case anyone wants to check it out. This thread is much more active, of course.

All of these games are cheap.

Chrome is a pretty bland FPS with stifled design. If you're a die-hard fan of guns, you might be disappointed with it. Watch the video to get a feel of what I'm talking about, bearing in mind that it was released in 2010. The bundle of Chrome + Chrome: SpecForce is normally $1.99 during a sale, with each game being $1.25 individually.

Tank Universal is what you'd get if TRON and Frequency had a baby. It doesn't have a MetaCritic score. It also normally comes in the Action Indie Pack (RIP - Trilogy™, Space Trader: Merchant Marine, Penguins Arena: Sedna's World, Larva Mortus, Tank Universal) for $3.74 during a sale.

Vigil: Blood Bitterness is very much an abstract, artsy game. Reminiscent of Edmund McMillen's work, only without the taboo topics and not as good. You can buy the Puzzle Indie Pack (Gumboy - Crazy Adventures™, Vigil: Blood Bitterness™, Obulis, Chains) for $2.49 during a sale.

Still Life also comes in a bundle (Still Life, Still Life 2) for $3.74 during the biannual sales.

All of these games, aside from Chrome, have been offered at the Galastore and maybe in a bundle, too. The point is that for $5 more, you'll get all of these games plus 10 more during the Steam sale. There's no huge discount for these games because they're all bargain bin titles.
The Ennui Bundle is launching later today. It's a bunch of games that you already own but can't summon the interest to play. It's also launching tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that.
Will the games activate on Steam? I can't be bothered to check...

Still Life is the only game that caught my interest, Still Life 2 however seems to be a bad sequel according to some reviews.
Steam not working for anyone else? Both the website and steam itself are not working for me.
It was down for me for about an hour or so. It just started working again.

Still Life was very good. The story was very interesting but it does end with a cliffhanger. Still Life 2 was okay but it felt more like playing a Saw inspired torture porn game. It does close up the loops that left you hanging in Still Life so there's that. My biggest issue with the game was that it stayed in the same house, I like some variety in my adventure games but going from room to room to room got a bit boring. Both Still Life and Still Life 2 are sequels to Post Mortem. According to Steam it took me five hours to finish Still Life and 10 hours to finish Still Life 2.

I find it a bit amusing that Magic only put it's content DLC on sale and the early unlock and cosmetic foil crap is still regular price.

That's actually really useful though because now you can tell at a glance which is worth buying and which isn't.

Enhanced Steam sort of helps a little with it's DLC categorizing but it's a pain in the butt because you have to check every page individually.

I had Still Life 2 from a long time ago in a bundle. I was trying to remember which Bundle I got it from and then once I figured it out I threw up in mouth a little.

Oddly, they put Still Life 2 in that bundle but not Still Life 1. I ended up grabbing Still Life 1 for $1.49 with Gala Points (yeah those) when it was on sale at one point there but it's not now.
I have a Defiance beta key from Raptr that I know I won't have time to fool with before the game goes live in April so if anybody wants it, just PM. I'll send it to the first person to request it.
PM sent

I looked it up, it was in Indie Face Kick. Yeah, that bundle...

Also, I think Galastore had a Chains, Still Life, and Still Life 2 bundle for $3.99 ($2.99 if you BTA'd a Gala) a month or two ago.

Humble Bundle is doing weekly sales with their store items.

Up now is Bastion for $1+. Beating the average gets you bonus content. Paying $25+ gets you merch.

Awesome. I loved Bastion, and still listen to the soundtrack often. If you don't have it you'd be stupid not to pick it up for $1. Steam says I have 6.6 hours on record, and I believe that was a single play-through.

I'm tempted to pick up the bandana, CD, and postcards for $25. Thanks for sharing!

In for the $1. Already own Bastion on X360 but for $1 I can pick it up on Steam as well. Sold.

I'm guessing this kicked off with them because the trailer for their next game, Transistor, hit today. The postcard at the $25 level might be a good draw for people like me who really like the art style of their games.
Saints Row 3 is on midweek for 66%, and received a price hike from $30 to $40. Looks like Deep Silver likes 66% as I haven't seen anything published by them go below 66% in awhile (coupons not included in that).

Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters is a hidden midweek sale. Again for 66% (Deep Silver).

Magic 2013 is 50% for the other frontpage advertised midweek.

Daily is Port Royale 3 for 75%.
they did on gamersgate 70% of sr3 full package and 75% off sr2 but most of time 66% off is main one

And now to get back off topic, re: BundleStars

That Jazz game looks interesting so I went in for the minimum.

Also the Society of the Serpent Moon Bonus from BS #4 looks like a pretty solid bonus. In case anyone doesn't know, you can still buy this one by clicking the link on the BS front page.

None that I picked up, although I vaguely remember...was it in an Indie Royale?
lol I didn't really notice, but that's awesome. Was this in a bundle at some point?
Not that I know of. It's been on mobile platforms for a little while and received some buzz there.

I think Steam needs an option to hide just Rocksmith DLC. :p
Organ Trail, not Oregon.
I made that same mistake a while back too. When someone pointed it out to me I went 'Oh I thought something looked a little different than the Oregon Trail I remembered'.
And now to get back off topic, re: BundleStars

I was kind of interested but it being (clientless) DRM Free kills it for me. I already have most of the rest of the games.

*Edited to add: I just noticed it's on Google Play though, now that I can live with. First two levels are free there and then if you want the full game you pay $2.99 to unlock.

*Edited again: And it's in the Windows 8 store for $2.99.

Oddly enough, the PC DD is on Gamefly (for $10) but is neither on Desura nor Steam Greenlight.
Not that I know of. It's been on mobile platforms for a little while and received some buzz there.
It started as a browser game. I played it a few years ago, I'm pretty sure.
Organ Trail, not Oregon.
Oh man that game looks AWESOME. Instead of dysentary you die of dismemberment. Seriously, that game looks great. There isn't enough Oregon Trail in the world to satisfy me - and when you add zombies, SOLD. If anyone got a key from HB I'll take it off your hands.

I'm glad I didn't bite when it was 3.XX$, thanks for the heads up :applause:

Not like it was $3.75 for the first time a week ago... more like a year ago. Anyway, it's got good art, nice music, but a bit too console-ish for my tastes. I actually never finished. Got bored of the combat. Plays more like an early NES game than an ARPG (not that it was billed as an ARPG).

Well after spending the day getting fleeced by the mechanic (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!) I see a few bundles have popped up.

Unfortunately, I have so many of the features games I'll like pass on Bundlestars. I somehow have Crash Time 3 on Gamersgate, so Crash Time 2 just doesn't appeal to me!

Bundle in a Box looks slightly better at the minimum entry point mostly for vampires, but I will wait to see how much it will drop for that second adventure game in the BTA tier.
Agreed. Shadow Complex was my favorite Xbox 360 exclusive game of all time. ALL time.
It was probably mine as well. My second was Dead Rising.
you ever played shadow complex? that's the route i wish modern castlevania took.
I'd like to see Shadow Complex one day get a PC port...

Have you played FTL? Its like a modern version of Oregon Trail with spaceships. I had been skeptical about it from the start, but after playing it for a while I am hooked.

While you're entitled to your opinion, what you said is quite inaccurate. It's actually a very solid, very challenging isometric RPG-platformer, with a good story and multiple endings. And let me tell you, New Game+ on the hardest difficulty will annihilate even the best. It's so intense with all the Idols activated that you'll most likely cry.

I highly recommend Bastion, as someone who played it through multiple times for all the endings (as opposed to someone who never finished it). The art is good, the story is good, and the music is great, but the gameplay is what makes it unique.

me too, it's too bad the team that made it only makes iPhone games now

they were making a sequel and got pulled off it to make infinity blade

When you redeem something on Steam, does it redeem automatically like Xbox.com does or is it like PlayStation where it shows you what you're redeeming and give you the option to redeem or cancel?

EDIT:
thanks for the answer

It's like Xbox.com. Automatically redeems, doesn't let you cancel. Not like PSN.
