You bet. I hope people give the game a shot during the free weekend. Like I said, it's not without it's problems, but it's a really fun game at it's core - I think it's worth playing if you like TPS.

Oh! If you do give it a shot, know that the 4 different "backgrounds" during char creation don't affect anything except starting clothing and secondary weapon. They are not classes like many people think - any char can use any weapon.
What about character customization? Any good? Can you choose between Irathient, Castithan, etc?

Sorry if it's been mentioned already, but where is the Defiance free weekend?

Edit: just googled and found the announcement. Cool.

It's cheapest in the UK by the looks of things so I'll download it tonight and see if it's my thing. Could be tempted to host a group buy if it's good enough.
Wow. That seems incredible. I wonder how many/which Sherlock games?
Not sure on the specific games, this was found on Steamgifts:
News spreads fast :) and yes this will include sherlock holmes games and some others. DRM-Free, Steam, and maybe GOG
Will probably be in build a bundle format.
Sadly, I already own them all. :(
I have none of them. I'm sure the reason they're bundled is because you both bought them, so thanks :)

Woo-hoo! I wavered so many times and almost bought the Sherlock games in every Steam sale (where the pack invariably sells for $7 - $8). Glad I held on to my CAG principles!
I have none of them. I'm sure the reason they're bundled is because you both bought them, so thanks :)

What about character customization? Any good? Can you choose between Irathient, Castithan, etc?
Right now just Human and Irathient. Castithans are coming in the first DLC (soon) with the others (presumably) to come later. I think that was a mistake on Trion's part, but could be wrong... there is virtually no reason in the game to make alts, so maybe that's their way of getting people to play longer.

Char customization in general is .. just ok. Not great. I've seen far worse, but also far better. It's not as detailed as Skyrim or Saint's Row The Third, but it's not as limited as say.. Firefall. Basically there are 3 "starting faces" per race & sex. After that you choose jawline, eye, nose shape, hair, facial hair, "blemishes" (scars, tattoos, moles and freckles).

One nifty thing about the DLCs is that apparently you don't have to buy them to play through the new areas/content. They said they didn't want to split the player-base so they said things like the new races are behind the pay-wall, but not everything is.
Sorry if it's been mentioned already, but where is the Defiance free weekend?

Cool , glad to hear you're giving it a chance.

I hope I am not hyping the game up toooo much. I just enjoy it and really don't think it deserves the bad press places like IGN gave it. It's not the best game in the world or anything (and it does have it's problems) but I think many people came into it thinking they were getting a HUGE 1000 hour MMORPG instead of a MMOTPS. People blew through the main story-line (mostly skipping arkfalls, co-op missions, pvp, side missions, racing time trials, hotshot challenges and daily contracts) in less than a week and then wondered where all the "content" was. There really isn't an "endgame" to Defiance.. no raiding or things like that.. and I am fine with that. Apparently they will be adding content - both free and paid, over the next few months.

I also think the complaints that the world is 'too small' have a lot to do with the fact that they give you a mount almost immediately (which I found refreshing as hell). The map is actually fairly large, people just never walk it. :)

One thing they are adding (it was part of yesterday's patch, but hasn't been 'turned on' yet) is an entirely new mode called siege mode. They are holding it back to coincide with an event on the tv show.

Well that was a good start to the Sherlock Holmes series. Tried to play the demo for Nemesis, it spent 3 minutes resizing my windows on my second monitor while I could hear the music before I closed the task.

it's a great game and for that price you cant go wrong.... i liked it much better than any of the other AAA games that dropped this year like bioshock: infinite. that said it will definitely be 7.50 by the end of the summer.

True, most of these have been on sale between $2-$5 in the past. Just thought I'd point it out, since it's cheaper than some of the game's current prices elsewhere.

EDIT: Also, Reprisal is doing a "Greenlight promotion" where you can download a DRM-Free version of the game today only. http://download.reprisaluniverse.com/ Not bad for those that are interested.

Thanks, grabbed it.

So what is the general consensus on Tomb Raider at that price?

I just got a new job and am moving and once that all settles I will probably be able to play it but not until the end of June/beginning of July.

I feel like $13.60 is quite cheap and that the Summer Sale will see it around $15.

Opinions?

Into the Dark looks good for $1, but I already have Jack Keane from Telltale's Adventure Bundle and the other games from other, probably IndieFort bundles (pretty sure I tried to sell them on the appropriate thread).

The hidden object game got some scathing reviews on Big Fish.

It will be much cheaper by year's end.

I don't remember seeing this in the thread yet, but there's a new Game Music Bundle running.

Game Music Bundle is taking you back, retro-style, to the music of the games that inspired and shaped the gaming industry.
$1 gets you our starting lineup, including never-before released soundtracks and some good ol' favorites :

 • Myst (remastered 20th anniversary)
 • Duke Nukem 3D
 • 7th Guest / 11th Hour
 • Jazz Jackrabbit 1 & 2
 • Tyrian

Level up your bundle by contributing at least $10 to get even more exclusive content:

 • Shadow Warrior*
 • Duke Nukem 2*
 • Jazz Jackrabbit 3*
 • Double Dragon Neon
 • Major Stryker*
 • Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure*
 • Wacky Wheels*
 • Alter Ego
 • Edge
 • Magnetis
 • Lava Blade
 • Duke Nukem 3D - Remix*

I remember being fond of the Jazz Jackrabbit music back when those games were new(!).

Bought Dust: An Elysian Trail. Wont get to play it until Sunday/Monday but I am excited for it. Looks awesome.

I played the demo and about 5 mins in, I knew I had to buy it.

Also hell of a deal for Giana Sisters. What a great plartformer.

Tomb Raider is easily one of my favorite games that's been released in the last 6 months. I imagine it will be one of the "daily" deals in the Summer sale at $12.50 and will probably get a price drop immediately afterwards, but that's just my guess.

It's easily worth the $13.60 though. I took my time, gathered all of the collectible things, explored, etc and the initial play through took about 14 hours. Obviously, it could be done a lot faster, but I had a great time with it.

Defiance finally has the free weekend active, but my work schedule prevents me from playing any. If they had the free weekend set up yesterday I could have been playing now, their loss. We need free weekdays as well for people who work on weekends.

I'm waiting for 75% of Giana... at GMG. As for Tomb Raider, the patient will be rewarded. Personally I'm hoping for a deal on the updated TR collection since I have none of the games (although GMG still has the old, 2013-less version, hopefully they'll update it.)
But it won't get bundled until you buy it.
Ha! Good point. Any chance this sale is an indication of it being bundled next week?
I always feel the "Free Weekend" is a misnomer since it ends at 1 PM PDT (10 AM EDT) on Sunday. Double dumb when Monday is a holiday.
I agree with this completely. I have no idea why Steam does this.

Still... I hope some here (who have any interest) give Defiance a chance this weekend. Chivalry has had at least 2 or 3 free weekends so far (I think?) so hopefully this demo will get some more people playing. :)

Edit: I am finally playing through Dishonored and am enjoying it a lot - thanks to those who recommended it a few months back ;p
After I am done with that I'm jumping right into Tomb Raider which I just got from GMG (this way I don't feel stupid for not playing it before it hits $7.50 lol)
That's a new low. I highly recommend it. It's a AAA-quality platformer with an awesome soundtrack.
It's definitely a beautiful and fascinating game. My only complaint is that it eventually turns into a "memorize this level flawlessly" exercise of precision timing and it isn't very forgiving. I played it about halfway through and then got to a point where it was more frustrating than rewarding.

My tolerance for difficulty has gotten rather low over the years, and by difficulty I mean the kind that requires a lot of repetition to master. I'm a big fan of the Mario and Sonic difficulty level progression and this is a few notches above that. I know there are some fellow older gamers out there that have similar tolerances, so I thought it worth a mention.

Having said that... if you're a platformer fan and you don't mind putting in the work, this is a fantastic game.

Weird, while I wouldn't say it's easy, I would say it's forgiving. It has frequent checkpoints, and unlimited lives. This allows it to be fun-but-not-faceroll (I hesitate to say challenging). The only parts that I could see people getting stuck on is the boss fights... but once you see the patterns it's simply a matter of executing them twice and then once more, faster... that certainly accounts for Hansel & Gretel (World-1) and Octor Freud (World-2). I haven't faced Gurglewoky yet.

TL;DR: I feel it's quite forgiving. I cede that it can be seen as challenging (but to me that's part of the appeal, esp when linked with "forgiving").

As for the TV show.. I'm reserving judgement so far... but I can say the game is far better than the TV show....
I watched about 4 episodes, and one of them had the ever so slightest hint of a Firefly episode, it was a heist scene, and it made it so clear to me that Defiance is shit in comparison. I gave up on the show after that. It's okay if you have nothing else to watch, but it's a shadow of what a great show should/would be in my opinion. I couldn't respect it after thinking about that contrast between truly great and incredibly average.
So what is the general consensus on Tomb Raider at that price?

It's my game of the year so far, and better than most if not all games last year. That's a great price. I really loved it.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. I haven't played Giana Sisters but your description reminds me of Hamilton's Great Adventure, which is a platform game that reminds me a lot of Disney's UP! in terms of story and whose presentation is wonderful, but whose mechanics don't merely encourage but virtually require repeated playthroughs of levels because you may walk on some collapsing platforms in the wrong order the first time or fail to push a switch in the correct order the second time, et cetera. My tolerance threshold for this kind of frustration-inducing design has always been low and age hasn't improved it much. Because I enjoy the story and atmosphere of HGA, it sat on my hard drive for a long time, leering at me from my installed games list, until I finally conceded that I just wasn't going to finish it.

venum likes it ;)

But yeah, I agree. It's a generic scifi crime drama procedural.. there isn't really anything else to it. No continuous storyline yet either, which is disappointing. Continuum is currently the best scifi show on the Syfy channel IMO, better off watching that.

The characters... when I thought about the characters of Firefly compared to the characters in Defiance. I said man, forget this show. Not worth my time.

I watched about 5-6 eps of Continuum, it's good. My favorite is Orphan Black, if you can call it sci-fi. I love it. The performance by the lead actress is unbelievable.
