The Steam discussion topic! Joy and happiness, right here, folks.
Haven't played many, you mean?

They're really shitty games, dude. You'll get a gem like Cave Story every 100+ games or so, which makes ~99% of those games shitty, and that's still being generous.
Yeah, accidentally a word there.

Anyhow, off the top of my head I can name a bunch of top quality games. Nexuiz, Soldat, Alliance of Valiant Arms, Teeworlds, Quake Live, Little Fighter 2, Runman: RATW and those are only ones I've personally played and thought of on the spot. I mean obviously with any list of anything that large you run in to quite a few duds but there's tons of quality in there. If you don't like it (The list), there's no need to trash it everywhere he goes. And clearly no need to drag out ragefests for pages and pages in an irrelevant thread.

Anyway, to keep this shit on topic, what do you all think the Valve secret will be for E3? I think it's been said it won't be Episode 3, I hope we hear more about the Icefrog project.

Jesus Christ, enough with the back and forth please. Getting back on topic if you missed it in the Deals forum, The Midweek Madness sale is Batman: AA GOTY Edition is on sale for $19.99. I'll pass since two extra maps (I got the Insane Map pack from GFWL for free) isn't enough for me to buy this twice.

On another note, anyone know when MTG: DotP will go live?
Not sure what that's supposed to mean. I suggested a decent game for your shitty list, okay? Your point? That's supposed to change the fact that the majority of the games on that list are awful and are free for a reason?
Anyway, to keep this shit on topic, what do you all think the Valve secret will be for E3? I think it's been said it won't be Episode 3, I hope we hear more about the Icefrog project.
Not Episode 3 but rather HL3. As long as its not L4D3.
Not Episode 3 but rather HL3. As long as its not L4D3.
95% sure they've said it'll be a 3 part episodic series, dunno why they'd break that. L4D3 would make me rage wicked hard though. There's always the possibility of a new IP for another compilation 'box'.

You mean mostly duds and few games of quality. The thing is, he goes EVERYWHERE saying they're good games, which they're not. It's just trolling. I don't know why he needs to nerdrage over shitty games, though.
With more and more freeware games going retail a lot of these cats are all kinds of lost with their emotions
What does that have to do with anything at all? And referring to "these cats" as "lost with their emotions," yet you're the one losing it and raging? Uh...... okay, bro, whatever gets you off (which are shitty games).

Well that's not 100% true. You care enough about 'Eversion" to defend it with your afternoon and keep me amused :)

You gotta learn how to read time stamps

A new IP would be pretty cool. There are some people speculating that it could be TF3, which I think would be absolutely stupid since they're doing a bunch with TF2 as it is.

So, I just remembered really liking a newsground game: Redder a lot, due to a surprise twist at the end: Eversion has this kind of twist? The steam deal of what, $0.50? wasn't much of an incentive to purchase it, but if I was to play it, I'd definitely buy it--might as well support the developer, plus get better graphics....so, wondering if the twist definitely makes it worth it? (sorta like the twist at the end of 6th sense makes the whole movie...)

Well, you want to get the bad ending first and then the real ending. Neither one is an ending I've seen in a platform game before.

Keep in mind there's no dialogue during these endings. The game may look 16-bit, but they play out like simple 8-bit cinemas.

And yeah, $5 for a game you want is really no big deal.

There's a thread on the steam forums that claims June 15th with a link to someone's twitter about it. Take it with a grain of salt, but it does seem kind of plausible.

I ended up pre-ordering it yesterday because of the added expansion. Since I haven't played MTG in about 15 years, it should be fun to basically start from scratch and get my ass handed to me.

I was thinking about this the other day, why aren't there things like PSN/XBL cards available for Steam? I know you can gift games, but it just seems dumb that something like this isn't available.

I prefer just paying for what I want at the time.

Did the idea of gifts ever cross your mind?

"Hey Grandma, download and install Steam. Create an account and purchase "x" game. During the checkout process, select that it's a gift. Add me as a friend, then send me the gift."

Or

"Hey Grandma, get me a Steam giftcard from Amazon."

You would think that Valve would do something like this to make it easier for gifting. But whenever this question comes up on the Steam forums, the hardcore Steam fanboys say that it's a bad idea or that this isn't needed. I don't quite get it either.

The twitter in question is that of the Brand Manager for the Magic The Gathering franchise. I'd imagine they know what they're talking about.

So, June 15th is now a pretty reliable date.
I was wondering if anyone here has any idea as to when the Left 4 Dead games will finally become playable on the Mac side of things?
No word yet.

That sounds incredibly dumb. How could a Steam gift card ever be a bad idea or not needed? Like, there is no possible argument that would ever be able to justify it as a bad idea.

I beg to differ... Gift Cards require that a cut be given to the company facilitating the GC, be it Fast Card or whomever. If the overhead for the GC is too large, then there is no incentive to setup a system.

I assume Valve thinks there are too few people interested in a Steam GC, combined with the overhead, plus the already deep discounts they give, that the entire thing isnt currently worth pursuing.

Now, if Valve were to create their own system ala Apple, this could change.
Anyone on a Mac going to start Team Fortress 2 tomorrow?
As long as Valve introduces a "Mute All Mac Players" option as well tomorrow, I'll be fine. I'm really not looking forward to hearing a bunch of hipsters talk about how much superior their Mac is to a PC.

Yup...I realized that after I posted. I was just too lazy to edit.

Lol.

In other news, Fallout: New Vegas will use Steamworks. Link

Good news as retail copies go on sale much more frequently and sooner than on Steam.

EDIT: And wouldn't you know it, Steam's having a Bethesda extravaganza to coincide with that.

I just found out something cool from another forum. If you have Gunman Chronicles game and input the CD key into Steam you can download the entire Half-Life Platinum pack, LOL. So for like $3.50 TOTAL off eBay (even including shipping), I got Gunman Chronicles game, and then on Steam Half-life, HL: Blue Shift, HL: Opposing Force, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Ricochet, and Team Fortress Classic.

A lot of good old games I've never played before. :)

You also get it with an original HL key. It's a kind of appreciation for loyal customers post-2004, HL2, Steam. Never heard of Gunman Chronicles before, though

Ah cool, I didn't know what the deal was. Ironically, Gunman Chronicles isn't even a game in the package, it just downloads the HL package. I've been trying to pick up some old Valve games and trying to trade off some of my other digital distribution games, like with D2D, for Steam/Valve games. Someone gifted me HL2 for free off Slick Deals, all I need now is Episode One & Two. :p

Team Fortress 2 available on Macs now. Can't even start my game up now because the servers are getting pounded. Lets hope when I join the next game that there is not any OS flame wars.

Oh, there will be.

Anyways, same problems here. The update wouldn't even download for me at first (about an hour ago). I had to change my location to Singapore and it finally just now started downloading.

I have a gift copy of HL Episode One that was for the CAG Child's Play raffle but it was never claimed. It's yours if you want it!
New TF2 interface = GAY

Did they really have to noobify everything? Training? Offline Practice? Are you kidding?
You don't HAVE to use those features you know. And what's wrong with letting people learn the basics/classes offline before they hop into a game?
You don't HAVE to use those features you know. And what's wrong with letting people learn the basics/classes offline before they hop into a game?
Yeah seriously it took me months to get the basics of the game down.

Agreed. Come on, Seh. Too much complaining.

The overall layout of the interface sucks though. I don't get why a text-based menu was too hard to understand in the first place.

I'd also like to add that I've already run into some Mac elitism. First game I played after the update had two people in it shitting on PC users, all while accumulating a total of like 3 points in a full round.

Yeah, douche bag noobs. I opened up so much cans of whoop ass on these guys. It's like no matter what you do they just wont shut up. u__u;;

Wow I sucked at TF2. Trying it out, and I'm not really a PC gamer at all, and I can't get the hang of the controls at all. People really use the a/s/d/w keys to move around??? Sheesh, I played a little bit of the offline mode and one game gives me hand cramps and I can't get beyond rudimentary moving around like that. I feel like a 4 year old playing Super Mario Bros for the first time or something, LOL. I'm sure I could get better if I got into it, but it seems like the sort of thing that you have to invest a lot of time into to get good at.

I hope your using the mouse with WASD. Using a mouse and keyboard is probably the easiest way of playing a FPS. Ever.
