The Steam discussion topic! Joy and happiness, right here, folks.

How the hell do you set the high score in Chime? I've gotten WAY over what they ask on the Paul Hartnoll level, yet it still says I haven't completed that challenge. Am I missing something? I don't see an "easy" mode. I've just been doing it in timed (in both three and six minute stages).

the chime achievement is super easy. Although if you have any issue with seeing the outline of the blocks, try restarting the game a few times.

Just makes me wish 1 vs 100 was still running. As fun as YDKJ is (Or rather was, don't know how well the new one will hold up) I doubt they're going to do constant question updates for it. Whereas 1 vs 100 was almost always new so long as you didn't constantly play the generic extended play list. Damn you Microsoft! Daaamn yooooou!

In today's age of DLC, and considering how cheap it must be to record these questions, I can't imagine that they won't do at least some extra sets of questions. Yeah, it probably won't go on for years or anything, but surely they'll do something.

Anyone else think that this treasure hunt should've been done with games that were just in the sale? That way they reward those who bought a lot of stuff instead of going "hey, buy more stuff". Not particularly an issue with the games that are like $1-$5 or in todays case, the one you can just play the demo for. However, Ruse was $30 and Fallout is $50.

Pretty lame that if you want that TF2 hat for completing all 28 objectives that you're probably going to have to spend a lot of money since it appears each day will have one objective for a relatively newer/more expensive game.

I think the 28 objective hat will be super-rare, and that's fine with me. People who own those newer, expensive games or are willing to buy them are rewarded for doing so. I understand why Steam would want to actually sell some games at or near full price occasionally.

Everybody, don't forget we have a Shadowrun gaming night on Thursday!

Ok so I even more strongly take back what I said about Super Meat Boy before! This game is great! It just takes some getting used to and I really think the first world was the worst! I have put in a few more hours and really enjoy this game!

so I've been reading the FAQs on the topic and I'm a little confused by the reference to retail CD-Key. I'm just curious if that would apply to my digital registration code as well.

Basically I bought Plants v Zombies from PopCap and since that only allows 3 license I won't waste one of them on my sisters netbook but if I can register it thru steam I have no problem putting my steam account on there while I'm not using it.

if Plants vs Zombies isn't listed on the page I linked (and it isn't), then you cannot add its key to your Steam account.

Can you guys stop doing it on Thursday? That's the one night I have night class :bomb:
I haven't done one of these in a while, but here's a new "coming soon" tidbit: The new You Don't Know Jack game is coming to Steam next month.
Ho.

Lee.

Shit.

I did not know they were doing a new YDKJ game. I friggen love that series, had most of the PC versions and played the crap out of the weekly Dis or Dats they were running for awhile. This is mine, day 1.

Anyway, Undergarden is really, really fucking annoying. It's basically a version of Pixeljunk Eden that controls like shit. The menu requires you to use the keyboard (click on "Back", nothing) and then the game tells you things like "Hit Warp to take this portal!" Okay, fine. What one of my 110ish keys is "Warp"?

Also, when I went to quit the game (from play), it loaded up a "Buy now!" screen, okay, whatever. I then skipped that and it went into a loading screen. When I hit escape to try and skip the loading screen, it brought me back to the "Buy now!" screen. Frustration mounting. Skipped, took me back to the loading screen. Waited, that loaded the main menu, hit quit game, then it loaded the "Buy now!" screen AGAIN.

fuck no, you are not worth my money you annoying shitpile.

Edit: Just played the YDJK promo game and the very first question was about Rachel Ray, Paula Deen and 2 girls 1 cup. Love it.

Spacebar is warp. F is grab. You *can* go to options and check, I'm pretty sure. It also supports Xbox 360 controllers.

I do agree that it's lame how it doesn't let you exit the game when you try to.

The Undergarden was interesting, but not $5 interesting. The demo was enough for me.

And Poker Night is all kinds of bullshit. Example: I went all in on a flush. The heavy gets a full house. A couple of hands later I go all in on a full house. The heavy gets 4 of a kind. This is on normal difficulty. I've played 2 1/2 hours and haven't won a single game yet due to bullshit like this.

agreed on undergarder shit controls. I tried the demo a while back.. I think the warp turbo was right mouse and you had to hold it and move the mouse cursor outside of the range of the circle or or some crap I cant remember.
And agreed about the buy now shit, I couldn't exit out of the dam game without going through like 30 loading screens and a bunch of Buy now! crap.

I've played for like 7 hours, and I think I had 1 bad beat like that. Even when I ramped it up to hard, their betting/bluff patterns seemed very predictable.

I think Raptor/Jesus is mad at you. :booty:

The Killing Floor Twisted Christmas Event is going be fucking awesome. KF is more or less my favorite FPS going, and I'm always glad to see more content for it, and this is a pretty huge update. I am, however, utterly dreading and loathing the guaranteed influx of stupid TF2 whores, since that (the itemwhores, specifically) is becoming one of the most intolerable gaming subcultures this side of Call of Duty tough-guys.

Should be fun. Plus I like the look of both that pyro skin and the TF2 hat, cool beans. Actually preordered that on Steam, and they have supported the hell out of it. Only other non-Valve game I've picked up on Steam and seen that kind of long lasting support is Nation Red.

Also, gasp! A non-Steamworks/achievement game during the treasure hunt sale! Maybe there's hope for an Age of Wonders bundle, Fallout bundle, or Bloodlines sale. Not bloody likely, but I'll hope.

Hey guys, remember how three months ago, I said that something would be happening with Steam, and the Humble Indie Bundle?

Well, as of today, you can activate your Humble Indie Bundle keys on Steam, to get all the games there. Pretty friggin awesome, right? It's amazing to still be getting new bonuses from the Humble Bundle, 7 months after it initially went on offer.

If you've lost or forgotten your Humble Bundle key, you can have it resent to you here.

Enjoy!

Hey CAGs. If you guys could add me to your friends list because I can not download steam on these computers then I would appreciate it. I hope I don't have to confirm it or I can do it online. Thanks in advance.

Those Wolfire guys know how to impress, I'll be picking up Overgrowth soon thanks to this stunt (And because Lugaru was awesome)

I'm also excited for this: http://www.humblebundle.com/

fucking sweet! I bought that! Now to see if I can find what I need to activate it.....

Agreed on the negative sentiment regarding UnderGarden--only checked out the demo, but for some reason could not figure out how I could use my xbox360 controller for 1st player--only allowed it for 2nd player for some reason. Seemed to be a neat concept with lackluster/boring gameplay, or at least, nothing impressive about the demo inspired me to spend $5 on it, let alone $10. Good thing the treasure hunt requirement was demo or purchase of the game.

Also glad to see more content coming out for killing floor, as well as a cross promotional item making its way into tf2. Not that I'm complaining about the neat way valve has handled steam and tf2, but I'm starting to feel a little tf2 promotional item fatigue...but that may be from spending all those hours getting the 4 (probably pretty common items by now, given the price of the game and the price of items in the store) unlocks in poker night at the inventory.

edit: also excited about the great news regarding YDKJ, I have my original big version, or whatever it was called, but couldn't get it to work on windows XP. Fun game, surprised it sort of went out of style, or at least, it wasn't mimic'd by someone else.

Is there a way to separate people on your friends list? I have had like 30 people add me in the last two days and its making it very hard to find my actual friends. I do not want to remove all the cheapassgamers that added me yet since some may be cool people and because I know part of why they are friend requesting is for an achievement....but I dont want to have to sift through like 40 people to find the friends that matter!

I don't think so. However, you can sort your list to show people by the groups you are in - If you are in any.

So for example when I am going to play Alien Swarm...I only see the Alien Swarm groups that I am in

Hmm if there is not a way they really should fix that. It would be nice to be able to put people in to folders like friends, family, alien swarm friends etc etc.

I was just talking about this the other day. To get scrims in Black Ops requires I go into IRC and get peoples Steam names so I can add them. Since the game has come out, I've got probably 15+ new people on my friends list that I just scrim with. I'd love to be able to make a separate group for that so they don't mix in with my regular friends.

Seems pretty dumb that there's no way to do this.

Well maybe someone at Valve actually reads these forums and will implement the feature. I do not understand why in this day and age its not in place already.

I have a question. Have any CAGs won any of these Steam events? Like the free games from the last Thanksgiving sale or this sale?

Just curious if anyone has heard of anyone winning and how does Steam notify them?

Maybe. But consider that a few hundred people, out of over 30 million Steam users, have won either of these. What are the odds that not only would any of them be here, but that on top of that, any of them would want to go around blabbering about winning?

Just curious if anyone has heard of anyone winning and how does Steam notify them?
Yes, someone on Half-Life2.net posted evidence that they won. You get notified by e-mail (the one associated with your Steam account, obviously). The rules for the giveaway state that much ("Sponsor will contact each winner via email to the address registered to the winning account."), if you'd bother to read them.

Sometimes reporting you won something can lead to extra hate sauce. While it's cool to see people self mutilate, cry and lament about it some others may not want to divulge that info....especially if they win free stuff back to back.

Well, I guess I don't see why people would get all peeved about it. But, then again, never underestimate the crazy in people.

I think it's cool if a CAG won some sweet swag from Steam. I would be curious what 5 games they picked from their wishlist. Or if there is a time frame for the 100 games. Do you have to get then all at once? (This is me just talking. I haven't researched it yet)

I heard they would give you games on your wishlist that haven't come out yet. That would be pretty sweet.

You said it yourself: people are crazy. And also, stupid. I guarantee you that if one of the winners of 100 games goes and tells people about it, that they will get absolutely flooded up to their eyeballs with people (who haven't read the rules and don't understand that the winners can't give away any of those 100 games as gifts) begging them to give them free games. That, and phishing/hacking attempts, no doubt.

If you can add it to your wishlist, you can win it.

Unlike the wishlist prizes, the 100 games prize must only be games that are available as of December 20th.

Valve posted what people won during the Thanksgiving giveaway, but not who got it. They might do that again.

I don't think anyone with any kind of social skills would get annoyed or feel resentment at a fellow CAG winning a contest. That would be good news all around. I'd certainly prefer CAGs to win stuff rather than non-CAGs.

That news would travel, and if they left even a trace that could link them to their Steam account, I guarantee what I said above would happen. Yeah, CAGs are great or whatever, but the Steam forums are pretty astoundingly stupid, sometimes.
I agree with you guys. I wish Xbox Live had friend sorting also.
oh yes PSN that's what i was trying to remember. the last friendlist i have that doesn't let me filter. I hear even facebook let's you filter now. Considering that people have way too many friends i'm sure it's necessary.

Resentment? No. Jealousy? Hell yeah.

Though after hearing it doesn't work on unreleased games, it's a tad bit less desirable as I can't possibly think of 100 games I'd want, but I'm sure I'd manage.

A friend just told me that Greed Corp unlocks on Steam in 13 hours. I knew it was coming to PC but hadn't heard anything in ages.

I bought this a long time ago on PS3 and LOVED it, unfortunately there was never anyone online to play. I highly recommend this one, it's a fantastic game. I'm definitely re-buying this one.
