I hope it is Paper Mario. I never played the 64 one and loved the GC version. Hopefully Nintendo will create a more traditional paper mario for the Wii in the future. Or one for the DS!
Joystiq's saying Paper Mario, Balloon Fight and Silent Debuggers this week, although there's nothing up on Nintendo's press site as far as I can tell.
I'm pretty sure that Nintendo sends the official press release to blogs and news outlets sometimes before they even update their website. I know that gonintendo.com had the VC updates before Nintendo's site a couple weeks ago.

I'm hoping to hell this is true because I need something to play before Strikers.
How does Paper Mario compare to TTYD?
More ambitious.
Excellent game still.

I'm crossing fingers for Paper Mario.
I'll download it tonight.

Since we're finally getting Paper Mario, I'll be more than happy to wait awhile for SMRPG now.

In fact, I'll have no complaints with the VC at all for the next few weeks :D

I might just start the "Where's my Ogre Battle 64, Nintendo?" campaign. And then proceed to not buy it for a while after it is released.

Glad to get Paper Mario!
Haven't played that in so long!

Still waiting on Uniracers!!!

I'd rather that go to PSN and Live for online play though.

Yes, I will buy it. I'm not a fan of RPGs, but I liked TTYD a lot. I never played Mario RPG. I'll give it a shot.
paper mario is amazing, i mean how many games lets you go to a penguin village.
Not enough, I'm afraid.
:D

Finally. I beat this game last year but I think I'll pick it up again for $10. So far the only VC games I've bought have been N64 (Mario Kart 64, Zelda OOT). I feel they are the only games truly worth the money right now.
Just downloaded it. Now it's time for me to complain about Kirby Super Star.
Agreed. That and Super Mario RPG

Ok, now that that's out of the way, can we please start complaining about a game I'll actually get? I'm thinking Super Metroid...

Paper Mario is a great game, but I've already played through it at least 3 times. And I could easily just pull my N64 out if I really want to play it again. It's a good game, but I can already just play TTYD on my Wii, and TTYD is the better game.

Mother fucking splendid.

But.

Where the fuck is SMRPG, Kirby's Dream Course, and Kirby Super Star?

:D

I've never played TTYD, but I own it. I think I'll dl and play Paper Mario (for like the fifth time) before I play TTYD.

Yay! One less game to whine about! Too bad the Wii isn't hooked up because we moved recently (and there's no internets yet in the new place). *sigh*

Downloaded it on my lunch break and played around 30 minutes. Just getting into the actual gameplay but it looks like it will be fun. I never owned a Nintendo 64 so this is my first time playing it. I really liked TTYD and SPM so I'm hopeful that I will like this as well.

It's a great game. :)

I think I'll hold off on Paper Mario. TTYD was too slow for me, I'd imagine this would be the same. Even though I did enjoy Super Paper Mario because it was a bit faster paced and more platformer like, it felt like it was wearing a bit thin and I put it on hold near the end.

I picked up paper mario today;which I've never played before, I never had a 64.(the only nintendo system I never did getbecause I finally had a reason to redeem my 2nd wii points cards from gaming lagoon.

Just downloaded Paper Mario and I have a question, is it possible to do all the pressing the button at the right time stuff that you can do in TTYD.

Things like dodging your enemies attacks and making your own attacks stronger, I tried but couldn't do it. Maybe they only introduced that stuff in TTYD.

Anyone enlighten me ?

For what it is worth, I thought TTYD was slower than the first one. It may have just been that I was more excited about it or because I played it first (or because I used to be more patient), but it didn't seem to have the tedious parts that plague TTYD and SPM. I have been pretty disappointed with SPM, actually; I figured it would be much faster since it was purported to be part platformer, but it still feels slow like TTYD and the combat is not as interesting.

I think the only significant change in the combat was the addition of "stylish" moves. Well-timed button presses should still reduce the damage you take. Also, I seem to remember that you could use the A and B buttons to reduce damage in TTYD, where B was stronger but required more precise timing or something like that...I think that was new to TTYD.

well with paper mario im going to have to buy two wii cards instead of 1 now, just as soon as i can bring myself to go to the store.
Can someone update the OP?
hes out of town1

"A" reduced the damage, and "B" reduced it by a lot more. I was never a pro at the timing for the "B" press, so I stuck with the safer method.

Did anyone ever seriously use Flurry in TTYD? I remember having to use her to solve puzzles, but aside from that......nothing. It was all about Koops for me, anyways.

It has been quite a while since I have played TTYD, but I think there were certain enemies I busted Flurry out for. The cloud enemies maybe?

Anyway, I am enjoying Paper Mario quite a bit. I just started Chapter 1.

Maybe this is a stupid question but is the VC version of Paper Mario different than the gamecube paper mario game?
Maybe this is a stupid question but is the VC version of Paper Mario different than the gamecube paper mario game?
Yes. Paper Mario for the Gamecube is the sequel to the N64 game.

Yeah, I know I'm late... but: fuck yeah! Paper Mario is on the VC! :D

I bought it, and played it for a few hours yesterday. I'm really enjoying it so far, it's my first time playing it. Also, has anyone noticed how crappy the Classic Controller is for N64 games? I'm using a Gamecube controller for now.

Wow, I guess I haven't been subbed to this thread in a long time. I saw the Paper Mario release in Ship's Foreplay thread and wondered why no one was talking about it in the Wii forum. Sometimes those stickies make threads even harder to find (I tend to look past them to the most recent "real" threads ). And like I said, I assumed I was subbed to this thread - it must have gotten redone at some point quite a while ago. I had just thought no one cared about the VC any more.

Anyway, I may make this my first VC purchase in several months. But I really don't have the time to get into it. I might as well play it at some point to complete the "series", such as it is.

Darn it! I actually bought the N64 cartridge of Paper Mario on eBay a few months back and I just finished playing it, if I had known it'd come out this soon on the VC, I would have waited!:bomb: Great game, took me about 28 hours to beat it, I'd definitely spend the $10 for this game....considering I paid more than twice that amount for the actual cartridge.

Maybe you were only subbed to the last thread and not this new one?

Devils Crush coming Monday.

If you enjoy pinball games, I highly recommend this game. To me it defined pinball video games because of all the variety, the game has a fucking password save feature! I played this so much back in the day, the sounds are great and its kinda creepy too.
