Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
Well, like I said, sunshine, I'm looking for a copy to play; sealed or not makes no difference to me. Even if the price doesn't go down significantly, the fact that there will be more copies circulating means it's less likely that to get one I'll have to head to eBay and get gouged. It's all about avoiding the worst case scenario.
All that's moot now. Grabbed the last copy of Nocturne from the Melrose Park (shudder) TRU after a series of phone calls. Yippee.

edit: Cripes. Muchos gracias to the original poster and others for making me aware of this deal. Cheapassgamer.com kicks ass!

Picked up Intellivision Lives! and Second Sight today. Only picked up Intellivision Lives for nostalgia but I don't know what I want to do with Second Sight yet. Is it any good?
Sept 27th it goes to 70%.
is that confirmed? i don't need a link, just for someone else to agree with him. please don't bitch at me to read the thread, because I'll just hate you for it.

People are reporting thats the date that it will go to 70% off because originally the activity for changing to 50% off was listed 8/14 - 9/27. There is no guarantee/confirmation that is the date and I am extremely skeptical of it. TRU originally stated they only had a date for the 30% and 50% off sale and anything after that would be decided based on how well the stuff is selling at the current percent off.
I just got back from TRU and bought Twisted Metal: Black. However, the lady behind the register asked for my license. I'm thinking, no worries because i'm 17 and "M" rated games are 17+.

Anyways, she looks at my birthday and actually starts counting year by year to see if i was 18. I stood there for a minute listening to her count and then she tells me, "Sorry, but i can't sell this until your birthday." WOW. Beyond the fact that she could sell me it, my license has lines where it says Under 18 until... and Under 21 until... which would have saved me time from watching her count her fingers....

I was calm and had my brother show her his ID. He's two years older but she does the same thing! She actually starts to count the years until 18... At least i can see why this 40ish year old woman is working at TRU.
It is indeed 17+. The cashier is misinformed. Just look at the M logo on the game. It should say 17 and over I believe. It's the AO (Adults Only games) that are 18+

That's the word at my store too, tubtub. Everyone's hoping for 70% soon, but we all think it'll be near/post Christmas if anything.
is that confirmed? i don't need a link, just for someone else to agree with him. please don't bitch at me to read the thread, because I'll just hate you for it.
I asked a TRU employee when green tags are 70% and he told me it would start on September 27th.

Even if prices will drop to 70% on the 27th... will there be anything decent left by then? I'd imagine anything good has been snagged up now or even when it was at 30% and whatever is left by this drop will be nearly worthless (not even trade-in worthy). Will the list expand to include new items or will TRU just get a new supply of green taggable stuff from some source? I wasn't wise to this the last time it happened though so if someone could fill me in I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks.

At least at my store, pretty much everything that was in stock at the start of the green tag sale has at least one copy left. Other than the cheap trade games I've already picked up. Thats probably a result of me being in a very CAG-less area though.

i went to TRU and didn't find shit. almost none of the games that were supposed to be green tagged were, and when i took them to the register they rang up full price. i did score some old starburst jellybeans for 44 cents, so i guess i can't say i walked away with nothing.

Also, I forgot to mention - I had the cashier scan a PS2 memory crd and it scanned at $25 but it also said PROMO. So I told him to complete the transaction (or whatever it's called, rather than just scanning it) but the total was over $27 after tax! I thought all PROMO items were part of the sale?

They scan at full price, but you'll see "PROMO" on the register. If you ask them to check the price, they'll just do this, and then tell you what scanned.

The discount isn't applied until they hit the Total button (lame, I know). So you almost have to pretend that you're buying them, regardless of if you are or not.

Anyway, I got:
Ghosthunter (PS2): $10
Nightshade (PS2): $10
Broken Sword (GBA): $10
Gekido (GBA): $7.50
FF Tactics (PS1): $7.50

Not necessarily.

PROMO can mean 8 million different things, from the Green Tag sale, to "Buy a PS2 and get a free memory card". I would assume that there is some obscure promotion regarding the memory card, but the Green Tag ain't it.

My TRU had 4 copies of Phantom Brave (not special edition) and 3 copies of Street Fighter (PS2), 3 copies of Gradius V (PS2), and 3 copies of Amplitude(PS2). I believe they are $15 each after discount. PM me if anybody needs them.

Did you have them total it? Sales prices aren't reflected until the item is totaled.

here is my haul:
legend of dragoon PSX 7.50
GC Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance 5.00
GC Batman Vegence 5.00
GC Timesplitters 2 5.00
GC Activision Lives 5.00
GC Defender 5.00
GC Phantasy Star Online 1 2 Plus 15.00
PS2 R Type Final 5.00
PS2 Trivial Pursuit 5.00
PS2 Katamari 10.00
PS2 Gradius V 15.00

Not too bad of a haul

I wouldn't mind Legend of Dragoon - but my TRU has about 25 copies - i think i can wait until 70 or even 90% off if that comes along.

Phantom Brave is part of the sale?
Phantom Brave is part of the sale?
Yes, yes it is. I can get this if you are interested. I think I added it to the list. It comes WITHOUT the soundtrack though.
GC Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance 5.00
I paid $7 a few weeks ago, but they didn't have any left this week for $5.

went to TRU yesterday scanned some stuff and it said video game promo. does that mean it is on sale? picked up a couple of green tag games nothing special.

Most of the time, yes, but its not guaranteed. I picked up one game that apparently wasn't on green tag, so I'm guessing it was a bargain bin game.

yeah, she said she did. i took the megaman collection up there and it rang up full price but it said PROMO. i asked her to total it out, she did and nothing happened. a lot of the games that are on our list were there, but there weren't any green tags on them.

That's really odd. It's company wide. Do they have any green tag stuff at all? Not even crappy action figures?

Fellas, the PROMO you are seeing right now is the free giveaways-Pokemon books, copies of Arcade's Greatest hits, DDR CD's, and anything else the RZONE has that has been pennied out except for strat guides(these have to be destroyed). Also I can confirm that 70% and 90% are realities. The sign packs we received have dates and the signs already included....TUBTUB should be able to confirm this as well...

Yes! Hopefully some of the un-marked green tag games at the local TRU are around to see 90%.

Has anyone in the metro Detroit area come across anything really worthwile? I'm really short on time and cash so I haven't been able to check more then one store (the one on Eureka in Southgate since that's on the way home from work). Mostly looking for cheap worthwile GBA stuff, since I bust that out at lunch, though something really quality XBox is welcomed as well. If anyone sees anything they don't pick up and could let me know that would be so awesome, I'm especially looking for Iridion 2 and Tony Hawk 4 for GBA. If I can't find them in a couple days I suppose I'll just grab them off the web site, I really just don't want to pay the $6 shipping off the website. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes a moment to scoop anything for me. :)

Hmm but surely they're going to need room for the Xbox 360 stuff? I'm thinking they will want to be rid of all the clearance crap before November...

The Southgate store had Gradius V and Astro Boy for the GBA.

Call me an idiot, but did you just say you have the date of the 70% and 90% sales? If so, when?

The Gratiot and Masonic TRU (St. Clair Shores, across from Macomb Mall) had at least 5 copies of Iridion 2 in stock as of Yesterday

I can get Iridion 2 if you are interested. Shoot me a PM. I don't recall seeing TH 4 though for GBA but they may have it.

Depends on what you're looking for, really. The TRU up by Lakeside Mall (Schoenherr and...Hall, maybe?) had at least fifteen copies of Mario Golf Advance Tour last weekend, and they still had copies of Broken Sword and both of the Metroid games in stock on the same visit.

Haven't seen Tony Hawk 4 for a long time, though. You might actually be better off getting that one used.

You guys looking for Iridion 2? My stores has about ten copies left. Along with Astro Boy and Metroid Fusion. We have just about everything left minus Gradius, Street Fighter AC, La Pucelle, and Nocturne.

Whitehall, PA.

Sorry if this was answered before. There were a few items that were not green tagged at my store, and I tried them at one of those price-check machines that scans the barcode. Some items said VIDEO GAME PROMO and then REG PRICE ___
Does that mean they are part of the sale and not properly tagged? Or is there another promo going on?
Thanks!

How are you guys taking stuff out of the electronics dept. to scan it? Every TRU I've ever been too has been in a seperate area of the store with it's own security alarm preventing you from taking stuff from electronics out of the department without buying it first.

Yep mine is like that. I asked the cashier to scan them for me. Obviously this works better when it's pretty empty in there.

well my TRU doesn't really have an R'zone. they just put the stupid R'zone stickers on random items. the video game section at my TRU is just like the rest of the store. a whole aisle of video games that you can scan yourself and do whatever. no security except for in and out of the store.

went there yesterday looking for some carrying cases for xbox ... no luck, they had the pro gamer one, but it was marked as 59.99 then 50% off...

about 90 percent of the games on that list arent green tagged at my TRU..i cant scan them because those security things and seriously there is never an available cashier when i go..hopefully i;ll have time tonight to actually bring up a stack of games for the cashier tonight and update you guys

I've never had a game on the list not ring up as green tag. There will be a 'carrot' next to the item that is green tagged (on the register monitor) so ask them to look for them while they are ringing you up. Just ask them to take off any games that are not green tagged. But like I said. Everyone on the list has worked even when not tagged for me.

Depends on your location, I guess. I went to one in Nashville the day it hit 90% and was able to find Fatal Frame on XB for $4 or so and a mobile monitor for $5.
