Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - (use spoiler tags please)
I did my first match today! I had a blast... went in as a level one and came out a level 5. I'm on my way to becoming a man.
I started playing online recently. What's up with the players who grenade you as soon as the co-op level begins? Is this their way of trying to end the game because it's not what they wanted (and thus no penalty for quitting)? I thought it was just an idiot not knowing what he was supposed to do until it happened again! :bomb:

Really? Never had that happen. Though a handful of times I had teammates who were absolutely stupid and played worthlessly. I like co-op a lot when you have a good team... otherwise it is the worst.

I hated playing Coop with random people. It is the sole reason why I never play that mode unless its with people I know. Its a drag when you unfortunately forced to choose between two Plunder maps, and the other two people never go for the treasure. Of course, not to mention the Survival games where no one makes an effort to try and rez one another. So yeah, your pretty much bound to be teamed up with idiots.

Prior to my PS3, I never owned a Sony or Microsoft console, and never had a gaming PC. I've enjoyed getting up to speed on "hardcore" gaming, and because of the reviews, UNCHARTED was one of my first purchases and the first game I put the time into to beat.

I'd give UNCHARTED a solid B. I played it on hard, logged about 16 hours (give or take a few unrecorded hours for those firefights I attempted a few times without success and so never reached the next checkpoint before quitting for the night). I enjoyed seeing what the state-of-the-art third-person adventure game looks like. I admired the design, especially the way that the same physical location would be revisited multiple times, and I liked how they stitched it together into a story, and it was handsome to look at. But I wouldn't play it again -- it's just alternating jumping puzzles and gun battles -- repetitive, and not that creative. And I wouldn't be interested in the sequel ... except it got such raves.

So I'm going to be borrowing Uncharted 2 for a couple of weeks (yay, Wisconsin public libraries). I can only put in so much time into the game, and so I've considered ratcheting the difficulty down to speed the game up, but I'm not sure what the dificulty settings do. Do they give me more HP? Give bad guys fewer HP? More ammo? Automatic targeting?

If I had to pick the way I'd like to speed the game up, I guess I'd just as soon not replay the same gunfight 15 times to get it right, especially when one gunfight is so much like the others. But I'm also not looking for a cakewalk -- I was pretty good at the original, and I don't need auto targeting or infinite ammo or one-shot kills or anything. But I'm not going to get a big sense of accomplishment out of beating it on Crushing (and I don't care about trophies).

I just want to fully experience the game. If Hard means that in order to drop a mercenary you have to shoot him 8 times in the torso, and Medium means 4 times in the torso, and Easy means 2 times in the torso, I wouldn't mind Easy. But if Medium means 1 shot to the torso and Easy means automatic headshots, I'd want to play Hard.

Well... if you want to run through it, easy is obviously best. If you actually want to play, I would recommend hard mode. It is not as hard as the first Uncharted on hard, IMO. I didn't die a ton of times and didn't find myself redoing too many things... it is paced better than Uncharted 1 too.

So, do what you like. Easy is the same story and what not... just a joke difficulty/challenge wise. Hard is solid and not too tough. It feels right.

EDIT - and any difficulty a head shot drops them... and stealth melees are one shot kills. So... if you are good at getting to people's backs and are good enough to hit them in the head... you still mow through people. Biggest difference to me is how many shots it takes for yourself to die.

Uncharted 2 is quite a bit easier than Uncharted, mainly due to the better controls and enemies actually die when you shoot them. Notching down the difficulty will allow you to take more damage and kill enemies quicker, depending on what difficulty you knock it down to.

I'd recommend knocking it down to normal if you're having trouble.

Anyone wanna play co-op? I'm tired of multiplayer and until they fix what the patch did, I'm not going back. I got a mic (and am a lvl 51 if you're wondering). Would love to play the objective co-op on crushing. Just send me a FR saying CAG co-op :D
Isn't there an Uncharted 2 thread? What is the point of this?
It's mainly about multiplayer now (with the 1.05 patch) so don't blame him.

I would go normal to enjoy the game without too much difficulty, but just enough so you dont get bored with easy. Don't do hard your first time.

My library only has Wii games :bomb: (even though I have a Wii)... they haven't really updated their catalog recently.
Anyone wanna play co-op?
I will next week when playing it counts towards the trophies. I would play regardless, but since they are adding MP trophy support, might as well wait until then to beat stuff.

Ditto. Well, I don't mind the trophy stuff, but I really want to get back into the co-op stuff. I have one friend who was supposed to play co-op with me, but he barely plays any game as is, let alone co-op in any game (he bought RE5 just for co-op...and we played it once for about 30 minutes). I really enjoy the U2 co-op mode, but I'm not a huge fan of random matchmaking.

Also holy fuck at the IAA stuff. I don't really care for awards and all that, but the sheer amount Uncharted won had me looking. Uncharted was apparently nominated for 14 categories, and won 10 of them. Figured for fun I'll list what it won and lost.
Won:
Outstanding Achievement in Animation
OA in Visual Engineering
OA in Original Story
OA in Original Music Composition
OA in Sound Design
Adventure Game of the Year
OA in Game Direction
Game of the Year

Lost:
Outstanding Character Performance (to Mark Hamill as The Joker)
Outstanding Innovation in Gaming (lost to Scribblenauts)
Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay (lost to Modern Warfare 2...at least I think it did considering Infinity Ward's joking comment toward Naughty Dog)
Outstanding Achievement in Game Design (to Batman: Arkham Asylum)

I can definitely see how Uncharted lost out to Mark Hamill as the freakin' Joker, but that must have been incredibly tough to decide.

I'm not a big matchmaking fan either, namely because of the guy who grenaded me when the game began then chased after the other guy and killed him too.

But when matchmaking for co-op arena, is there a way to avoid gold rush? I only like survival, but sometimes gold rush comes up as the only choices.

Only real way to avoid gold-rush is to play with two other players your know, and set it up in custom match. Otherwise, its random.

I hate getting paired up with very low level people in co-op... I wish ND made a system where they would pair other players relative to your skill.

Level =/= Skill.
Level =/= Skill.
Indeed. I've been owned by noobs and have handed guys twice my level their asses. That's one of the best things about this game's MP, it feels a lot more balanced than most games even with mismatched levels. I'd say most people are average (including me) with very few being really good or really bad.

That's why I really like this game MP.

One complaint I have with it though is that I never feel urgency in the MP. When I was playing it a lot I would have considered myself really good.
I wish they would change the weapons back to the way they was to start with. I really hate one snipe kills.
yeah its pretty damn cheap that one hit anywhere with it gets an instant kill. i also getting annoyed with the automatic shoulder aim switching. ive been playing over the left shoulder since i started this game and its annoying that at random times in play your aim goes from one shoulder to another.

someone made a good point over at the nd blog that with every new update they do to "fix" problems they tend to always make things worse. i give them props for tweaking the dc/quit penalties and i hope thvye fixed those glitch spots but some of these changes are ruining the fun of the game.

if they were doing these to give new players a better chance at playing then fix the matching system or keep level 20's and lower in their own designated servers. i still cant believe a majorty of u2 mp players were for the health drop.

I like the new medals and I like how they kick people that idle. They should have left how the game plays alone and just added the extras.

the new medals are cool i just wish they didnt move the spot where they pop up at. the idle kick i heard was implimented due to those people joining those mp obective games and not playing but still getting money for it which is cool i wonder if you get a penalty for it though.

i also wish at some point they will up the aount of money you can earn. it sucks to use those dark boosters and get stuck at only getting 50,000 when you know you could get more. still hoping for new weapons too.

One way to balance the Sniper Rifle is to reduce the amount of bullets stock. I would say 2-4 bullets, but keep the 1 hit kill.

But it generally gives you a good idea. If say you get paired up with a level one guy, chances are that he doesnt know the map and all the enemy spawn points and could get owned from enemies that spawn behind him.

Of course there are some people who make a new account (one of my friends did it) and start playing multiplayer/coop on that account again, but then you cant predict that.

PLUS, beginners don't have Hard or Crushing unlocked so it's annoying to play easy all over again.

The shoulder aim ajustment they made is the worst thing about the new update. People can still do corner shots and shoot me through walls so I don't know what it fixed or why it was put in. Gotta love those laggers that punch you once from 10 yards away and you die. I wish Naughty dog would fix that garbage and put Way of the Warrior out on psn while they're at it.

Just started playing MP and so far it's very solid stuff.

A lot of it depends on your knowledge of the map and where the hot spots are so after a couple of rounds I really got a hang of it. It's really fun and I cant wait for the DLC.

We’re right on the doorstep of releasing the “Drake’s Fortune Multiplayer Pack” – our latest set of downloadable content which includes six character skins and two new maps available separately or as a bundle for use with UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves. A common question we’ve seen from our players is how we will add these maps to our matchmaking system.

Purchasing either the maps or the bundle unlocks an option in your online profile, which is accessible by pushing the square button on your controller.

As you can see in this set of screenshots, the new option is called “Matchmaking.” The option has two available options: “Default” and “DLC.”
Leaving the option at “Default” essentially tells our matchmaking system that you want to get into matches as quickly as possible. The matchmaking system will then prioritize your matchmaking based on the installed content.

The matchmaking system will first attempt to place you in matches where all players have the new maps installed – up to 10 players in competitive modes and 3 players in cooperative modes. If it cannot find an open slot for you, your party or create a new full match within a reasonable amount of time, the matchmaking system then expands its search and attempts to place you in any match using the original on-disk maps with open spots.

This does mean that you risk the chance of not playing the new maps very often until enough players with the new maps installed have entered the matchmaking pool.

Choosing the “DLC” option tells our matchmaking system that you want to be matched with players who also have the new maps above all else. This means you are essentially forcing yourself to ONLY play with players who also have the new maps installed. This can potentially mean long waits if there are no open slots in existing matches or if the system cannot create a new match where all players have the new maps installed.

If you have a party of friends who all have the new maps, have the “Matchmaking” option selected to “DLC” and THEN a new friend joins your party without the new maps, the system will recognize this and only place your party in matches playing the original on-disk maps to ensure that your party does not have to break up.

Whatever setting you choose, we hope you’ll find “Drake’s Fortune Multiplayer Pack” worth your hard earned cash. Choose wisely and see you online!

These kind of split communities are always unhealthy and I can't fathom the reasoning behind charging for maps. I've never paid for a map pack and never will because that just tells me they aren't trying to support the community and keep it alive -- they're just trying to support themselves. It's funny how the smaller devs who could stand to make a few extra bucks always release free map packs and SDK's for creating new maps, while the large companies charge for maps.

Pretty ironic.

im still not happy with the changes they made to the game. ive adjusted to the energy but that damn auto shoulder aim switching is killing me. that aside im going to get the dlc its fairly priced considering you can have both the skins and the maps for 5.99 or you can buy one or the other. considering how much other companies charge for dlc this to me is a bargain. and if youre able to game share it its even cheaper.

Well, that kind of sucks.

I thought the Navarro skin would look a bit different from the pre-order skin. I hardly saw anyone rocking the Navarro, now a lot more people will have it. u_u

Aww that's a bummer, I was hoping to still have some kind of exclusive look to my Navarro skin.

i wonder if these skins will talk. i remember someone saying that first set of skins from earlier in the month dont say anything.

I figure it would have been a hassle to get and pay the original voice actors to come on and just say 'incooooming.'

I remember Arne from the ND blog stating that the skins will have their original voices.

I wish they would change Flint's voice when he says that.

I've just been playing with my UK friends helping them get the trophies. I hear the new maps are excellent.

for those of you getting the dlc dont expect to play on it anytime soon ( at least for deathmatch) i had to go through alot of games on the old maps before i finally got in a 4 on 4 match in the new level wheres its raining. but that said it was worth it that thing seemed huge but i can tell already it will be a campers paradise with all the high up areas you can hide and snipe from.
Wow if someone joins your party without the map, you can't even do the new maps in a custom game -.-
Obviously. Why would they get to play the DLC for free?

I experienced the opposite of your issue, because my group had frequently received the new map DLC as a choice when voting. I love the Flooded Ruins map--it had me in awe when first seeing it. I like the Facility too, but it feels like I'm traveling on a 2-floor running track.

Ahw man, I loved going on and being the ONLY one with the Navarro skin in every game. It really made it more enjoyable, total bummer it is widely used now =(

I really liked flooded ruins and thought facility was just ok. Now if they would change the guns back to way they was. It would be perfect. I did way better before than I do now. :bomb:

Earlier this week, we blogged about how we are listening to the conversations in our player community about our recent Title Update 1.05. To close out the week we wanted to share some of the things we’ve been looking at and testing internally within UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer—all based on feedback from our community.
Just to be clear – these are some of the adjustments and refinements we’ve been talking about and we’ve been testing internally to date.
By no means does this mean any of this is guaranteed to happen.
And now the list…
Auto-shoulder switching
We’re thinking about removing this entirely and/or adding a toggle to your online profile.
Medals being obscured when you have been killed
If you happen to get medals right as you’re killed, the scoreboard comes up and you can’t see the medal and cash award. I think it’s safe to assume we’ll address this.
Limb damage
We’ve been testing out changing the hitboxes so that shots to the limb require require damage than torso hits or headshots to dispatch your opponent.
Grenades
We’ve been looking at different adjustments to grenade damage and radius to see how those adjustments fare.
Boosters
We’ve been playing around with balance adjustments to some boosters.
Glitches and exploits
This is a little bit of an on-going process, but addressing these are definitely things we’re working on and have been updating consistently over time.
When we’ve made more solid decisions regarding any adjustments or refinements to multiplayer, we’ll be sure to let you know in detail.

As much as I like Fort--that map should just be removed. There are too many glitches on it. Grenade damage seems fine to me, but the radius is random at times. The limb damage requiring more damage is sounds neat.
