Wii $250 - Nov 19th - The Nintendo 2-Day Press Event Thread!
1:36 AM EDT: Virtual Console pricing revealed! 500 yen for NES games (around 4 USD), 800 yen for SNES (around 7 USD) and 1000 yen for N64 (around 8.5 USD). You can pay via credit card or a "Wii points card". Stay tuned!

I don't want to pay $4 for an NES game I already have!
Cheaper to just go buy the physical cart(unless it a rare). Thats lame.
Source: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157572.html?tag=breaking_news;link

Well, looks like playing Twilight Princess on the 19th with our new Wii isn't going to happen.

I was really hoping for a $199.99 price-tag, but I guess it's only $50.00 more. I just wish the pack-in game was something a bit more interesting.

So about $4.25? They will just round it up to $5.00. That is really, really disappointing. I was hoping for at least less than $1.00 for NES games. Come on, Nintendo.
if Twilight Princess is not a launch title, I refuse to buy the damn thing. I know quality is important, but enough is enough. There will be no Nintendo AAA launch title at launch. This is with Prime 3 being talked about as being delayed as well.
i still am not a 100% convinced. I will wait till tomorrow morning before i start cryin into my plush mario
Exactly. Nintendo said they didn't want a simultaneous launch, so Nov. 19 could be Japan, leaving us somewhere else.

Also yen rates rarely convert 1:1 when it comes to gaming. So I don't think that $250 has any weight to it either.

I'll wait until the US announcement in the morning before I start judging. :)

Again... I'd rather pay a little extra and physically own a game (say Kirby's Dream Course for the SNES) than the convience of downloading a 'virtual' game.
What about people who don't have any old Nintendo games? This is just the thing for them.
It would still be cheaper to buy the real thing. While it would be cheaper to get a rare game through the VC, I highly doubt any rare games will even make it on there. We'll probably end up with the standard classics that pretty much everybody has (SMB series, Zeldas, DK, etc.).

Ok, seriously.

$250, launching after the PS3, and no fucking Zelda at launch?

This is goddamn MADNESS.

Edit: Dec 2 launch in Japan.

I guess Nintendo really honestly doesn't fucking care.

I'm really upset with people. Nintendo has positive buzz and then when they anounce a price WITHIN the range they gave, and anounce a date WITHIN the range they gave (Q4 2006) everyone is pissed off. Meanwhile, Sony has consistantly failed every promise they have made. I will buy a Wii at launch with no qualms. Do I wish it came out earlier, YES. You can be assured, that when the Wii launches, there will be a big supply of consoles, accessories and games. As far as the price goes, besides the fact there will be discounts (Overstock.com), the two controls and two nunchuks that are probably included have to cost a considerable amount of money. Wireless controls with full motion sensing capability and nunchuks with similar technology, not to mention the built in speaker AND rumble, and its what supposed to be cheap? Would $180 have made me happy? OF COURSE ,but they have to make a profit. If you take a business class you learn that the average profit made on a product is about 5%. On $250 thats $12.50. They probably aren't making shit from console sales but they have to get penetration. And saying that the late release and price will make people get a different system is stupid. PS3 is more or less unavailable and the 360 is not in any way similar to a Wii. If one console is the same as another to you then you should try a GBA, they're cheap, they're out now, and there's tons of them available.
Ok, seriously.

yea.. that is fucking bullshit. I preordered 2 games, red steel and zelda. If one of them is not at launch ill fucking shoot my self. :bomb:

Now people are posting in comments that it's 25000 yen... which is like $210 bucks... what the fuck goes on.

$215 in Japan....don't we usually get our systems cheaper over here?

*prays for $199.99 pricepoint for US*

I bet they're doing this to tick everyone off then later on in the next day or so they'll say its at like 200 bucks so everyone is relieved and wants to immediately rush out and get the Wii.

Okay, the price isn't that big of a deal to me. I was hoping for Wii Sports and 2 controllers for $229, so whatever. The virtual console prices were about what I expected also - a little steep but pretty much in line with XBLA.

The release date (after PS3??) and reports of no Zelda at launch, however, are fucking WEAK.
Wow.

Miyamoto had better come over here and personally wash my balls for all this shit.
Imagines Strell's new sig of him pionting and smiling down at a sad Miyamoto washing his balls

I just don't get it. They had so much going for them and then this happens. I mean I'm literally shocked at how badly Nintendo seems to have fucked this up.

:whistle2:#

This is all evidence of the fact that Nintendo hasn't been keeping quiet to generate "buzz." They just had no idea WTF to do or say.

I'm starting to see the strategy in releasing after the PS3, assuming they're banking on PS3 manufacturing/supply problems. I don't agree with the release date strategy, but I could come up with an argument for it if forced to.

But the pricing on everything, from the console to the Wii games to the VC games, is strange. I don't see the pricing reflecting the desire to provide access to non-gamers. This looks like another Nintendo $99 Micro cash grab.

I can't wait to see the Classic controller with an MSRP of $79.99. That will make my day.
if it's going to be packed in with Wii sports, it should definately have an extra wii controller packed in. Otherwise, it's a great dissappointment.

I think nintendo was thinking right on the launch date tho. There will be people wanting a ps3. But when it sells out, they can use those 600+ dollars that they have towards the wii.
If this is Nintendo's thinking they better shove their tales even farther between their legs and go into software only. For all of you saying this price is better than the PS3 you're correct, but anything below $500-600 looks good. Nintendo has basically gone against everything they've been preaching the past year. How do you expect to appeal to the older/non-gamer community when you can't even satisfy your core market. A true CAGer would be outraged by this seeing Nintendo's track record of launches.

Sure it is only $50 more than the NGC at launch, but as many have stated you don't get too much with that $50. Wii sports should be $29-39 at most, but I guess Nintendo is going the way of SONY and force feeding us now. I'm very disappointed with this news and hopefully it won't be true. Nintendo is what got me into gaming and I have supported them since their infancy, but this is a slap in the face. If this info is true maybe Nintendo will finally take the blow that will rid them from the market. Videogames are not for kids anymore and old people die, so fucking focus on the community that is carrying this market. Greed gets you nowhere, yet Nintendo feels they'll make a quick buck on with the "niche market". I guess my GS credit will have to wait for a price drop or go towards SONY/MS products.

:hot: fuck Reggie and fuck Nintendo :hot:
If you take a business class you learn that the average profit made on a product is about 5%. On $250 thats $12.50.
This is true, but traditionally (at least the last couple generations) it has been common for the company to take a loss (sometimes major loss) on a console to get market penetration. If MS and Sony can sell their consoles for a loss, it is almost expected for Nintendo to follow suit.

Sony can say they are launching Nov. 17, but they are only going to have like 5 systems available, so can you really call that a launch?

Let me see if I got this straight:

The Seattle Post Intellegencer leaks an article from the New York Times that is a leak from a press conference which takes place tomorrow/today.

The leaked article says $250 and Nov 19.

The leaked article has since been taken down.

The ongoing yesterday/today press conference in Japan has confirmed one fact about the NYT release (VC prices) but not the actual price of the console (Off by about 20%).

And I'm not sleeping at 2:00.

WEEE!

No Twilight Princess at launch? Well, you can kiss the Gamecube version goodbye now.

Seriously, what the fuck is causing this game to be pushed back so far. Wasn't it originally talked about as being out a year and half ago?

1:55 p.m. [update 8]: And the other shoe drops. Famitsu is reporting a December 2 launch and 25,000 yen price for Japan.

Clairfy this is the JAPAN releasedate

1:58 a.m. EST [update 9]: Nintendo will be posting a Japanese press release momentarily and will have full text of Iwata's speech in about an hour. Also, wii.com will go live in Japan in about an hour

2:06 a.m. EST [update 10]: The press release is up. It lists the contents of the Wii box: Wii console, Wii remote (w/ strap) Nunchuck attachment, Wii AC adaptor, Wii A/V cable, Wii console stand(?), sensor bar, sensor bar stand and two AA batteries.

Doesn't it make more sense for VC pricing to be in line with iTunes pricing? $0.99 for a NES title, $1.99 for a SNES title, etc? I mean, maybe that is too optimistic, but it seems more in line with what the most people would pay (I assume, who knows?). I'd easily blow $10 if it meant 10 NES games. But for 2 1/2? It doesn't seem like a great deal of value, especially when services like GameTap let you play current gen titles for $19 a month or whatever it is. I know it is more in line with XBLA, but then I always thought $5 for Galaga on there was ridiculous.

fuck Reggie and fuck Nintendo :hot:
Between the $250 Wii launch and the news that "top tier" (anything with Mario in the title) Player's Choice titles will cost $30 and Nintendo has completely blown away their bargain-ness.
I just don't get it. They had so much going for them and then this happens. I mean I'm literally shocked at how badly Nintendo seems to have fucked this up.
Ah, come on. It sucks, but it's not THAT bad. It's not like, Sony E3 2006 bad.

Anybody think it will really be released here two weeks before Japan?

I know the DS was released two weeks before Japan got it.

Interesting that the date in Japan is so far from PS3's date, but not so here...

I would agree but Sony is the market leader and Microsoft's resigning CEO has x billion dollars to throw around. Nintendo has been losing for a while now and doesn't have the kind of money to throw around like this. I could see this reported price not being true though.

I am a lil pissed there arent 2 controllers. They want people to have fun and play together but they arent are forcing people to play extra for what the system is supposed to do.

bah even dumber "Gemaga reports 3,800 yen cost for the remote, 1800 yen for the classic controller, and 1800 yen for the nunchuck attachment." the controller is sold seperatly than the nunchuck, wtf are they thinkin

So looks like the console may have the expected price after all.

And the controllers shouldn't be too bad (Nunchuck 1800 Yen, Classic Controller 1800 Yen, Additional Wiimote 3800 Yen). I can get over the Wii games pricing.

I guess it's the VC title pricing I'm disappointed in. What a fleecing.

Too bad the launch date is so far off. G'night, all.
Also [ronchitaitoru] of Wii became announcement. Simultaneously with substance from 10 corporations 16 titles in sale. In line-up '[zeruda] (THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: Twilight Princess)' And 'also Wii sport' and so on is included. Furthermore 'as for [zeruda]', with including tax 6800 Yen. As for the price range of the software, the possibility that it becomes 4800 Yen ~6800 circle.
Twilight Princess info.

Wii Sports too.

Hard to say what the price will be in the US, but I'm happier after hearing 25000 Yen for Japan. As for the release date, I'd like it sooner, but I don't think it's a big problem for it to be after PS3. What's important is who can produce the most systems before Christmas, and I think that will be Nintendo.

'Nintendo Co. Ltd. revealed that Wii's various controllers would be available to buy separately at launch. The Wii remote will cost 3800 yen or about $40; the nunchuck 1800 yen or about $20 and the classic controller 1800 yen or about $20.'

Holy fuck.

7editeurs20060914_080329_2_big.jpg

~$32 Wiimotes

7editeurs20060914_080329_3_big.jpg

~$57 Zelda TP

~$15 VC Controller

~$15 Nunchuk attachments

So ~$47 for the Wiimote + Nunchuk.
Holy fuck.
its more like 32 and 15, still way too much. 47 for a complete controller is insane...if this info is correct they have completly lost it

I'm going out on a limb here and saying as far as I can make out:

1) The Wii is coming out in the US about 2 weeks before Japan.
2) The Wii is priced at about $200.
3) The Wii will be packaged with a game in the US for $250.
4) The Wii will be packaged withoug a game in Japan for 25,000 Yen.
5) Virtual Console games will run $5, $8 and $10.

Correct me if I'm wrong... anyone.
