I keep hearing rumors (mainly coming from that VC reviews site) that Hudson is going to reduce, if not drop, support for the VC to focus on Wiiware.

I haven't heard it from anyone reputable though but I would be pissed. Sapphire, Ys III, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Cotton, Dragon Slayer, and a couple of others need to show up before they focus on shit like "Derby Racing 2009".
I'm just trying to understand their rationale for doing that. I thought it was easy money (unless they want to release a remake or compilation).

Hudson didn't do all those games. Konami would be the one to deal with Rondo of Blood. Sucks that we might not get Ys III though, I've been dying for the US version but I'm not willing to pay the actual TG-CD prices.
so is the new pool game worth it? the best out yet? everything about it sounds great from what i've read.
I picked it up a few days ago and I'm happy with how it turned out. It feels like a more fleshed out WiiPlay Pool. The tables are full sized and it has several different types of pool(8 Ball, 9 Ball, Rotation, etc.) to play. It also has online play and a trick shot mode to keep you going. It's not perfect, but I doubt you will feel ripped off since it is only $5(500 Wii Points). Here is a pretty extensive review of it from Wii Ware World. They gave it a 7/10.

Sapphire, Ys III, and Dragon Slayer were all published by Hudson. Sapphire in particular was developed by one of their former teams so it is still their own.

Dracula X and Cotton would have to be dealt with separately though...I'm sure we'll see Dracula X come down the road at some point. Not so sure about everything else.

I really want some star wars games from the snes. Also the 2 rogue squadron games from the 64. I want to see a lot more 64 games. The 64 wrestling games were great, but I wonder how many blocks they would take up. I bet Wrestlemania 2000 would be like 800 blocks but man is that game awesome.

Hmm I just blazed through Startropics 2. What is the best game on the VC that is close to it that is not Zelda, I already have all the Zelda games.

I want more of these type of games to play, heh.

Check out Neutopia 1 and 2. Though that's running dangerously close to your "not Zelda" rule.

First update of the new year:

A new year means even more new games at the Wii™ Shop Channel, starting with a pair of imaginative titles to kick off 2009 in style. Anyone who loves Kirby™ can keep the confetti flying to celebrate the release of the classic Kirby's Dream Land™ 3 for the Virtual Console™. And if you're already desperate for a warm mid-winter getaway, check out Sandy Beach, a sand castle game on WiiWare™ that's loaded with sunny fun.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Sandy Beach (Konami, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Comic Mischief, 500 Wii Points): Enjoy a fun day at Sandy Beach as you build elaborate sand castles. You can work peacefully on your sand castle or enter into a battle with invading crabs in Crab Battle mode. Players will strategically build their sand castle and use cannons to defend it against an army of destructive crabs. After successfully defending your sand castle, discover beach treasures and additional cannons with your metal detector to customize your castle even more.

Virtual Console

Kirby's Dream Land 3(Super NES™, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Kirby, Dream Land's resident hero (and everyone's favorite puffball), must once again save the day when the mischievous King Dedede starts causing trouble. Kirby must travel through an assortment of levels, battling an exotic array of enemies (both new and familiar) determined to stop him from completing his mission. Always armed with his trusty ability to swallow enemies and gain special attacks, Kirby can also unite with some of his animal friends and make use of their particular talents. Featuring detailed graphics, challenging boss battles and the distinct charm of a Kirby game, it's no wonder this title is considered a classic.

Holy crap Kirby's Dream Land 3

You know what? I don't care that we've only got two games, or that the WiiWare game sounds like a piece of shit.

Kirby's. fucking. Dreamland.

I never had an SNES, so I've never had a chance to play this one. I'm fucking THRILLED. :D

Did you read the description? You get to build sand castles! There's also Crab Battle Mode!

The only thing good I can contribute to Wiiware (for a lot of its titles) is that it keeps these crappy games off store shelves. One less shovelware to fool the average consumer.
How similar is Kirby Dreamland 3 to Superstar Ultra? (Which one was that the re-make of again?)
It's more of a step-child of Kirby's Dreamland 2 than Superstar.

In either case, this will actually be the first game I've bought myself (gifts aside) since World of Goo.
Did you read the description? You get to build sand castles! There's also Crab Battle Mode!
I'm really psyched about KDL3 (never got to play this one) and I was half expecting them to make a DS version and get denied once again on VC a la Superstar.

I must say though, the sand castle game sounds half interesting. The concept anyhow. I imagine the game is pretty terrible. For some reason 'Crab Battle Mode' brings to mine the Katamari crabs.

Dream Land 3 is alright. I played it a few years ago never realizing it existed. It's no where near as good as the GB Dream Land 2, but it's the nicest looking in the series.

Kirby's Dreamland 3 was an insta-buy for me today, thats 2 weeks in a row :D.

Personally the level design is kinda bland in my opinion. I bet the 1st world and part of the 2nd one and the level design seems kinda bland, and has a very basic feel to it. It really brings the game down several notches for me. Other than that the rest of the game is fantastic, I love the animals and how you can attach yourself to them.

How is Neutopia? I want a startropics like game but I already own all the Zelda games.

Neutopia 1 and 2 are fairly good ripoffs of Zelda games.

I'd kill for Crusader of Centy. Now that was a stellar Zelda clone.

One thing that Dreamland 3 had going for that was challenge. Although the main game itself was fairly easy like most kirby games , getting all the heart points in the game was more difficult as it required some thinking to complete the puzzles , especially in the later levels.

Mentioning Zelda clones , I'd like the see Crystalis show up. I never did beat that game , and I never picked it up a few years ago when it got ported to the GBC (partly because the GBC port wasn't supposed to be that great).
I don't know but 27 holes for $9.00 dollars is one hell of a deal!
Heh, I would've expected that comment from lilboo.

This week, Europe got Donkey Kong 3 - NES/500 Points, and Enduro Racer - SEGA Master System/500 Points.

USA is getting two WiiWare games on Monday: Jungle Speed - 1000 Points, and Planet Pachinko - 500 Points.

Super Punch-Out! and Ogre Battle rated by the ESRB
I don't know anything about Ogre Battle. What's it like?

I've never played Super Punch-Out! because I didn't have an SNES, so that'd be a day one buy for me.

I never did get around to getting the original Punch-Out! for VC. Not that I need it - it was one of my first NES games, and I've played it to death - but I've still never managed to beat Mike Tyson. I should rectify that. :whistle2:k

OB is sort of a real time strategy war sim - you have an overworld map where you tell your armies to go to certain points. If they run across a city, they liberate it. They might find items or special areas. If they run across an opponent's army, they fight. I don't think you control the actual fight, though, but it plays out like any other RPG where your characters attack or use items or something. There's more to it than this, but this is the basic idea.

The VC version of Punch-Out! doesn't have Mike Tyson. So, you know. Dreams crushed and all.

Mr. Dream is just as good.

Yeah. I'd probably hold off on getting it for a while, but that'd be one to buy eventually.

I'm still holding out hope for Harvest Moon 64. :)

If I'm not mistaken, the Ogre Battle 64 cartidge sells for ridiculous amounts on eBay, so the VC version is a good buy even if you have a 64.

Ogre Battle is a tough game that takes quite a bit of playing to truly get the hang of. Since you don't actually control the fighting , just where the units are going , it takes a bit of planning to make up good teams that are effective , as well as being specialized (a team for liberations , a team for clean-up , ect.). Once you start to get the hang of it though its quite fun and challenging. It also has a fair bit of replay value since the campaign is kinda lengthy as it is and has multiple endings. I've never actually even beaten the game :(

Ogre Battle 64 would be great as well. My friend had the game , but I never really got the chance to play it. From what I've seen though , the game is just as challenging , but a bit more streamlined and easier to get into.

WiiWare™

Jungle Speed® (Playful Entertainment Inc., 1-8 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Jungle Speed is a lightning-fast card game for the entire family, where quick reflexes and a keen eye will put you on top. Flip your cards, watch your opponents and grab the totem at the right moment to win the game. Just when you think you've got it down, a new card can temporarily change the rules and keep you on the edge. Play starts when the first person flips a card. Moving around the table, symbols are revealed until two of the exposed cards match. Players with matching cards must then scramble to grasp the totem in the middle of the table; the loser gets the winner's cards and anything in the pot. With paws flying, be the first person to get rid of all your cards and win the game.

Planet Pachinko (Allied Kingdoms Inc., 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): Can you survive the Pachinkeet Temples of Planet Pachinko? In the future of the future, an ancient civilization has sealed away its riches in elaborate temples dedicated to the game of pachinko. Now the Robot family must fight through these dangerous temples in search of their lost puppy. Using their rockets, lasers, grenades and slime launchers, will they be able to survive the challenges? They aren't the only ones adventuring through the temples. The pirate Vile Vill and his minions are looking to loot the temples and take on the Robot family. Play in single-player mode or with a friend in exciting two-player co-op.

Virtual Console™

Castlevania® III: Dracula's Curse (NES™, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone—Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): This is the third game in the popular Castlevania series and the last of the franchise released on the original NES console. Take on the role of Trevor Belmont, forefather of Simon, and battle Dracula in a time long before the events of the first two Castlevania games. In addition to his trusty whip, Trevor has a previously unseen power—the ability to transform into one of three different companion spirits that he meets during his quest: Syfa, a young vampire hunter capable of powerful magic; Grant, a ferocious pirate who can climb on walls; and Alucard, forgotten son of Dracula, able to shoot fireballs and transform into a bat. Use an assortment of weapons (some specific to each character) as you choose which path to follow in your fight against Dracula and his army. Loaded with replay value and featuring some of the best platform action ever, this title is not to be missed.
