WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

This week's additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel will have players setting their sights on a wild variety of targets. From solid walls to wriggling fish to fierce samurai warriors, you'll face plenty of fresh and unusual challenges as you master these distinctive games, each featuring an inventive twist on a proven formula. You'll also notice the ongoing expansion of both WiiWare™ and Virtual Console™ offerings, bringing you the best of what's new along with classic titles that hold fond memories.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Block Breaker Deluxe™ (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Suggestive Themes, 800 Wii Points): Prepare for the frenzy of the coolest block-breaker game ever. Block Breaker Deluxe is a reinvention of the classic arcade brick-breaker game with a trendy graphical style, fun atmosphere and an exclusive multiplayer mode. Lively characters and amazing graphics provide distinctive settings of the jet-set nightlife, including a cool bar, dance club, casino and more. Special bricks, multiple bonuses, secret weapons, paddle size options and ball-speed variations make this fascinating game even more challenging. The Block Breaker Deluxe rage has arrived.

Cocoto Fishing Master (Neko Entertainment, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Welcome to the adventures of Cocoto, Fishing Master. Get ready for a completely new experience on Wii. Play the role of Cocoto and travel the world to find five millennial fish. Only they can stop the magic cauldron from overflowing with lava and prevent the world from being destroyed. Thanks to Cocoto Fishing Master for Wii, fishing has never been such fun. Use the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers like a real fishing rod to catch more than 30 different fish. Discover five enchanted lakes in five different worlds from Cocoto's universe. Confront gigantic bosses to collect each fragment of the statuette that will allow you to wake the great god Geo from his slumber. Meet Cocoto's friends, sell your fish to Baggy and buy new fishing equipment from Neuro's shop.

Virtual Console

SAMURAI SHODOWN (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen-Animated Blood, Crude Humor, Violence, 900 Wii Points): This first entry in the extremely popular and revolutionary fighting-game series was released in 1993. Choose from 12 swordsmen with highly individualistic characteristics and fight furiously, ultimately confronting the evil Amakusa Shiro Tokisada. Each character wields his or her own specific weapon, but you must be careful not to lose it during the heat of battle. Some of the fighters also bring an animal companion into the fray, offering a unique aspect to the quick-paced action. Another significant feature of the game is the anger gauge, which indicates the level of anger felt by each of the combatants as they suffer repeated injuries. If the anger reaches its maximum level, the attacking ability of the character increases, leading to even more intense confrontations. Through it all, the refined camera system smoothly zooms in and out of the playing field, presenting the frenzy of the battle while showcasing the lively background (watch as the referee scores hits). Awaken the samurai spirit within and get ready for a new kind of fight.

Well, whatever. Time for work. I'll see if I want anything later.

Luckily I know nothing about any of these games, so I will remain joyfully ignorant as to whether this is a good week or a bad week. Don't ruin it!
When is earthbound coming out?
Never.

When will people realize that just because the ESRB rated it doesn't mean it will come out. Several games have been rated before and vanished from the list of upcoming releases. One of those games was Super Mario RPG.

Nintendo NEVER said EarthBound was coming.

Block Breaker Deluxe is actually really fun. I've been playing the JPN version for the past month or so. It seems to have some sort of story to it, about sexy ladies and bikinis and jewels. The music and sound effects are really awesome. I'd describe it if Breakout/Brickout/whatever you want to call it took place in Vegas, sexy Vegas. Also has a lot of cool power ups.

Is Samurai Showdown for NEOGEO much better than the Sega CD version? It's the only version I own.

Because compared to most other fighting series, Sam Sho on Sega CD is pretty dated.

Ripping off the VC is one thing, but ripping off WiiWare is just wrong.

How does that logic work, exactly?

This seems like a decent week. I don't really get all the complaining. The VC release is maybe overdue, but still a classic game from that era (even though I hated it in the arcade because the guy with the giant anal beads destroyed me every time).

The two (yes two!) WiiWare releases are interesting at least and are the first in a couple of weeks that I am really curious about. At a glance, they could have the simple appeal of Pop, or they could be intensely terrible. I probably won't have a chance to get either until at least tomorrow night, and when I do I will report my impressions. I'm most curious about the fishing game.

Holy shit are you KIDDING ME?

That fucking Cocoto shit makes it into Wiiware?

What the hell are they trying to pull here - reverse psychology?

Exactly, this is the same reason there is no solution to the storage problem. Nintendo doesn't give a fuck about us. I will go back to the Pro Wrestling. Rated for over a year never came out.

Another shitty week for me. God if Nintendo keeps putting this fucking shit out, I will not be buying anything for the Wii all summer.

You misread the intent of my post. I was replying to Courageous who was saying that he had been playing the JPN version of the Brick Breaker game. Since I know he is into the Wii homebrew scene, and I know that the VC and WiiWare encryption has been cracked and that every release is put onto the internet, I am assuming he is playing a pirated version of the WiiWare game.

So I was just saying that I understand why people rip off the VC since the ROMs are already freely available online and most people think the VC prices are inflated. But the WiiWare stuff is coming from a lot of small developers and pirating those is just wrong, IMO.

So that is what I was talking about. I wasn't commenting on the actual releases.
Well I'm sure Cabela's "Huntin' Stuff" is next.
I would probably buy that too.
I totally read that as "Costco Fishing Master"
So did I.

I didn't misread your post. I was questioning the exact logic you outline above, where you are able to draw an arbitrary line through various kinds of piracy, despite both scenarios being on equal legal ground. I see it as an all-or-nothing proposition with lines like that being little more than a way to rationalize guilt. I'm not passing judgement on piracy, just logical fallacy.

OK, now someone buy or pirate the fishing game and tell me if it's any good so I can spend some points on it.
I guess we can only hope for good things next week.
I've been saying this exact same thing for months now for the VC.
I've been saying this exact same thing for months now for the VC.
you and me both.
next week plz!
Both of those Wiiware titles are horrible.
You got and played them both already? Please post more detailed impressions!
I am NOT looking forward to tomorrow's releases

(Let's hope this works in order to get some good, decent releases)

If lilboo's wacky sexcapades can't do it, do you really think your lowly reverse psychology will? :nottalking:
That didn't work, Where is Lilboo? He did post the press releases but didn't reflect that on the topic. Maybe he's on that wacky sexcapdes...in Europe...infamous for "geeks and otaku"?

I disagree. I haven't played that fishing game but I encourage everyone to give Block Breaker a chance. It actually gives some charm to the type of game and I'm sure the US version will be even better since you can read the menus. I'm sure most of us are well aware of how to "try" it anyway.

I'm right here, sorry.
I was at NOA office today.

Let's just say..5 assholes later, we're getting Mario RPG next Monday for 200 points. ;)

What? Even better if you went to NOE and rape Laurent Fisher.

Not good enough. Go back there and get it down to 0 points.
OP updated.
MAJOR EW'AGE at Cocoto Fishing Master. 307 blocks
I was slightly interested, but 307 blocks??? NO.
That's what turned me off as well. I was ready to buy it, but I'd have to delete quite a few games for that.

Watching the video on Block Breaker Deluxe..it looks pretty good. I might have to try it..
The fishing one, well, not so much.

My god, thats horrible. To think they could push out 2 of these a week with such insane block requirements but don't push out a 40-70 block SNES game, that everyone wants, lol. Did they ever think that people would be buying WiiWare to care about storage, lol?
I've been saying this exact same thing for months now for the VC.
I think everybody has. So much for Super Smash Bros. coming out w/ Brawl, amirite? So much for Mario Party droppin' with MP8, amirite?
you and me both.
next week plz!
Lets cross fingers and give each other eskimo kisses.

Maybe then, JUST MAYBE, we'll see something decent next week.
You got and played them both already? Please post more detailed impressions!
Yeah, the building blocks game is cool for 10 minutes, and the fishing game is just trashy. No point in wasting any points on 'em unless you dive in your millions of Wii points daily like Uncle Scrooge (lilboobear) over there.
Nintendo says they are working on a storage solution.

Of course they don't say anything about what they're working on, just that they're working on something.
As hopeful as that sounds, I will remain skeptical at this point. Nintendo also said, "...[new stuff] that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3".

I know Nintendo needs to do it, but I can't help but remain cautious until I actually see a product on the shelf ready for me to buy (or a firmware update for me to download). I would rather be presently surprised, than to get me hopes up only for disappointment. I know better than to do so with Nintendo.

Any more reviews of BB Deluxe? I love good block breaker games.
I can dig it.
The gameplay looks very fun (if the controls are good) but the characters look like they are out of Miami Vice.
Pi is exactally 3!

Sorry to do that, but no one has posted to this thread in over a day.
ummmmm....
Europe got no VC games this week, instead two WiiWare games, Block Breaker Deluxe - 800 Points, and Cocoto Fishing Master - 700 Points.
Posted just 2 minutes before you.;)

Finally got around to playing Lost Winds (yeah I'm behind just a little , I also just got Smash Bros. Brawl this week too:whistle2:#) and I'm enjoying the game. Took a few mintues to get a feel for the gust movement , but I got it now and can't wait for the next chapter , once I finish this one of course.:)

i only played about 5 levels last night. but so far, the levels are fun. there are often certain blocks that you have to hit to open things up. or other blocks that will cause explosions. i thought all of this was pretty cool.

i haven't made up my mind on the controls yet. it seems pretty natural to just use the cursor. and it's nice being able to cover ground as quickly as the cursor can move.

so those are my thoughts so far.
