Over on neogaf, some folks have been discussing some recent comments by an EA technical director explaining their reasons for not bringing over Frosbite 3 where he says their initial tests of the Frosbite 2 engine on the Wii U didn't go too well.
It's been speculated that this is because of the Wii U's CPU despite Frosbite 3 being supported fine on the PS3/360. Could you provide any insight on whether this is a plausible enough reason because I was under the impression that the CPU was generally superior to the Cell and Xenon?
Doesn't seem to bode well for Nintendo. Security already breached and the weak CPU is not helping third parties trying to port games to the console.The Espresso is a nice scalar CPU but it has primitive SIMD compared to the PS3 (SPUs) and the Xenon (the extended AltiVec). Games that make heavy use of CPU-based SIMD (e.g. physics, certain types of stream processing, etc) will plausibly have more trouble running at full speed on a WIi U than on a PS3/360.
