Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Just bought Livelock for $5 with the free M$ funny munny from play a thon rewards. If anyone wants to do some co-op on this or knock out some cheevos get at me.

So a few more emails are going out now it seems. Just got a $5 code.

I thought it was weird that everyone here who won had only won $25 dollar codes. They had $15 or $10 and $5 ones in the prize list as well so there may be a few more emails coming for those that had entries.
Thanks for the headsup, I wouldn't of checked that email for another month ended up with 6 more emails for $45

Anyone getting offers for Gold Memberships on their dashboard?  Mine is up on the 18th so trying to decide if I should wait and hope for a price promo or just buy now.

Got a $10 card today, up to 60, so a free day 1 game. Or hoarding for spring sale. Super bummed this is after the gamepass deal.

First post, great site.

I'm trying to get Army of Two (to XB1), which is free, but I can't download, it says ''Sorry - Your purchase cannot be completed at this time, please try again''.

Does anybody know whats wrong? I download straight to a hard drive which has plenty of space, I downloaded Brave to it last night while it was denying me Army of Two. Card linked to account is fine, I'm stumped.

Had you already claimed it and are just trying to download it now? If you're only just now trying to purchase it, it's no longer free. The free period was January 16-31st.

---------------

Also, don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but right now you can get the complete edition of Forza Horizon 3 for $47. Full price would be $156 after the current sale. It comes with literally every expansion.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/fh3-platinum-plus-expansions-bundle/9n3rzqgc6k10

Edit: I see it mentioned in Major's post, but for some reason it doesn't show up in the DWG section on the Xbox One (at least for me). Just wanted to make sure everyone saw this since it's such a great deal.

Ah, this must be the problem. I guess I'm too late. Thanks.

Speaking of movies, anyone know why my purchases on Google Play that are labeled as 4K in the You Tube app are not playing in 4K? I tested a few and max I am getting is 1080p. But if I just pick a 4K trailer or something else from You Tube, it’s full 4K so it isn’t an issue for the app as a whole.

Really tempting but I'm trying to finish FM5 and getting burned out on it.

My GS is now 22222.

"My number's 2-2-2 2 2-2-2.
I got an answering machine that'll talk to you.
It goes
'Hey, how ya doin?
Sorry ya can't get thru.
Why don't ya leave ya name & ya number
And I'll hey back to you.' "

I know it's 2 too many 2's.

Just catching up on posts, but I agree with Gamegirlpocket that the overhead for offering Movies via Xbox is probably quite low. And thinking about Groove, the movie industry is worth about double that of music, and I'm guessing movie consumption follows Microsoft's living room/xbox market a lot more closely than streaming music does. I wasn't too shocked that Groove folded, but would be surprised if Microsoft threw in the towel on movies in the near future. But what do I know, I still don't subscribe to Netflix!
I have watched ONE movie on MS video service in 3 years. My XBox is in the basement. I have watched some other movies/shows on it through Netflix (available on EVERYTHING) and recently I installed the SHO Anytime app (not available on PS4). Not being able to watch content easily on my other 3 TVs is a show stopper for their service for me.

Finally got a second controller when they slipped down to $40 on Amazon last week. Getting the gf to create an XBL account and introducing her to Castle Crashers tonight. She's a pretty casual player so I'm not sure what else would be a good fit.

If you want to get her into FPS games, Slime Rancher does the trick. My wife has been into Skyrim, etc, but never felt very comfortable with the controls in sketchy situations. After getting hooked on Slime Rancher for a few months, she could hold her own in Halo*. The constant practice chasing slimes and low-stress platforming helped train that muscle memory that we all take for granted.

*she still won't play it, but i'm sure she could.

Peggle 2 hooked one of my casual friends, she would play a lot of her own after I introduced her. Burnout Paradise went well with another because you can mess about without consequence.

Anyone have opinions on a true wireless headset? I'm not looking to spend 300$ on the Astro's. I'm tempted by the Plantronics Rig 800 since it's reviewed pretty well and has Dolby Atmos support. I missed out on the 75$ best buy glitch which makes it hard to dish out 150$. I can offset the cost by more than half with gs certificates which makes it a little better.

I had some friends over with one pretty light gamer joining us and we all had a lot of fun with Octodad. It's pretty much a one time playthrough though. Mario Kart or Sonic Allstars Racing worked too.

Slime Rancher is a great suggestion for getting used to FPS games, thanks. Portal has served that purpose as well, since it's lower stakes.

Yeah, Peggle. She'd probably love it.

I have Sonic Racing Transformed, that'd be an easy one to get her into, too.

The good news is, she isn't very concerned with being very good at games, she just finds them very entertaining. I showed her Mega Man 2 and she was dying of laughter as she got killed over and over.

The turtle beach stealth line are pretty good. I never tried the wired versions but I hear the wireless are head and shoulders better. The issue w that brand is usually the wires breaking, so no wires = decent product.

Plus I really enjoy them connecting directly to the Xbox instead of a separate jack. Go to a GS or target where they usually have a test station

My TB 420X are very good imo, got em on clearance at Target for around 50. I haven't noticed a difference using Atmos vs the free MS version of headset surround. I hear monster roars behind me.

I just picked up the Rigs 800 a couple of weeks ago, they are great. I came from Astro A50 (2013). Nice to have a completely wireless set.

Also vouching for Portal/2, Peggle, and Slime Rancher. Wife loved these. She also can't get enough Breath of the Wild right now, so if that's at all a possibility, it could do the trick. That last one was a complete surprise.

I have no doubt she would love running around and exploring in BOTW, especially since it's really user-friendly in terms of not punishing you too much for dying. I'm mainly looking for stuff we can play together, but that's a great suggestion. Until recently we've both been so busy in grad school (she's in the same program) we haven't had time to find something.

My wife loved the humor in Castle Crashers. All of the Lego games are pretty good. (Of course, the newer, the more improved, although Lego Star Wars Complete Saga still holds a special place in my heart) If you want to yell at each other all night, Overcooked is a fantastic co-op game. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hate each other a few times, but when you get that 3 star, it's so nice.

For sure, that makes complete sense. Some of these market 'battles' are global though, and 4 TVs with the space to house them is a pretty US-centric issue. Totally agree that cross-platform compatibility is better, so as chnandler_bong was saying, hopefully Microsoft' is trying to get involved in any platform sharing arrangements. One way they can do that is to maintain a presence, and build some meaningful market share to negotiate with.

We're still in the early stages of digital distribution so who knows what will happen. More competition is generally preferable, so I hope they hang on. Movies are probably not even a footnote on their financial statements though, and they may decide it's not worth diverting their focus; heck, even the entire xbox division is not worth pursuing in some people's eyes.

I'm a terrible customer for any of the digital movie offerings, and still prefer physical media for the films I really love (in order to get the best quality,) Would be kind of cool though if GwG came with a free movie license each month, or if they devised some sort of MoviePass offering for Gold users to get a rotating collection of films. I think pricing is the main issue for me - I just cringe when I see digital MSRPs equivalent to retail ones.

I love Overcooked, but the people I've played it with get impatient and won't pursue 3 stars or give up on hard levels. I have the Lego games from GWG so that may be on the list too.

Just a reminder that the gift cards won from the Free Playathon expire near the end of May. If you do the 5 for $5 movie deal, that credit expires at the end of June, so it's a good way to extend expiring credit, plus you get five great, old movies.

I noticed that Xbox Giftcards are finally back on Microsoft Rewards for Canada (and it’s a hot deal). So just wondering, how long do hot deals usually last? I’m about 2000 points away from a $25 card.

Finally got a second controller when they slipped down to $40 on Amazon last week. Getting the gf to create an XBL account and introducing her to Castle Crashers tonight. She's a pretty casual player so I'm not sure what else would be a good fit.
Consider Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 split screen or online. I play it with my wife, usually survival mode 10 rounds. Also it is free with EA Access and cheap via redbox right now.

The Brave game that just went GwG has a coop mode. And it pretty easy to get into. I'm actually enjoying it a lot!
She likes Disney a lot so I was going to suggest Brave to her anyway, so even better!

Cool, will look for it.

Anybody use credit to buy the 5 Movies and get a $25 credit promotion? I've seen people in this thread say they got a email within a day but it's day 2 and nada.
I Used my XBox Gift Card Balance two days ago as well and still got nothing.
I used credit to buy mine and received the promo credit the next day. Maybe the program is picking up steam and the credit is taking a little longer to distribute.

Also for 360 GWG you need a credit card linked to your account to get the free 360 games. I have a Visa GC with a penny or two on it on my account which works fine.
Well I dont know if it makes a difference but if so, I use a XB1.

My regular card is linked, that's what i use to purchase digital games. But I'm trying to understand if your comment implies it's safer to have a pretty much empty card linked to your account? But what do you do when you want to buy something that costs money?

I use those empty cards too, they come in handy for creating accounts that you might not want to link your card to. iTunes for example has a glitch with those cards and amazon too, where you can get 1-4 songs for free, but I digress...

I am not a big fan of linking my credit card. I use Live credit to buy games. If you remove your credit card it will not let you claim the free GWG 360 games.

How does that work?

And could you or anyone else tell me how Bing/MS rewards works? I just started buying games and i'm seeing this stuff on slick deals and i want in but dont know about it.

I buy mostly from traditional retailers. Both physical cards or codes. Sometime places run promos on Gift Cards. I also use trade credit at Best buy and Game stop. I stay away from most "no name" online store deals. Some people report if you buy stolen codes (originally bought with a stolen credit card) you can get your Live account. Or did you mean something else?

Go to bing.com make it your home page. Sign in with your Microsoft account. Any time you use the internet type your site into the bing bar instead of the address bar. Click on the news stories and pictures each one counts as a search. Searches gives points. Use points to buy Microsoft credit. Use Ms credit to buy games on sale every week. Free games for doing what you were going to do anyway.

Also use your phone to search more points.

No, this straightens me out, thank you.

And thanks to Mr_hockey66.

Requirements for the new achievements coming to Gears 4 in next week's update :

https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/community/whatsup-mar1-2018

School of '08 could be tough.  Sure, there were no fortifications back in the original Horde, but there were Boom Shields (still useful even after they patched in the ability for enemies to kick over planted ones) and no bosses or enemies that could get around on the map in ways that you couldn't (e.g., flying Guardians or jumping Juvies).

Beside the grind for another 5k kills, the other achievements don't look too bad.  Non-US / NA players may have trouble with the competitive wins, though, given the gripes I've seen on forums about finding matches.

Traded in my Battlefront 2 thinking I would go digital. Now I’m wondering how long it will be before it hits the EA Access Vault. Hmmmm....
