Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

anyone tried redeeming the 3 month game pass code on the screen on xbox for the 5000 points to see if it triggers completion?

I'm curious if it would work before I decide what to do with my code
On reddit, I've read that it worked when purchasing a 1 month plan only, and that even purchasing the 3 month deal didn't work. So in the end, it doesn't really seem worth it.

The affiliate links on Major Nelson's page for the weekly sales are coming back as not secure and blocked by network security. WTH?
That started happening to me last night with the affiliate links here. Cisco doesn't like microsoft.msafflnk.net. Hadn't checked the Major's links yet, but the same thing is happening with those as well.

I wasn't trying to throw shade at PUBG. I LOVED that game on PC, but I think half or more of my enjoyment comes from who I am playing with and this guy I was doing the XBOX version with was brand new to the game, and was just not having a good time at all. I'm pretty decent at shooters, but he really struggles sometimes and he said the entire time we played PUBG he didn't even see another player before he died and so the long matchmaking queues just made it even more frustrating. Also in fortnite, there is so much more to do like the building, resource gathering, completing challenges for exp etc. and PUBG is just shooting other players and that's all.

I can totally see how people who are good at shooters would prefer PUBG because that game is a better test of those skills where in Fortnite most of the time I die simply because dude had a shotgun and built a higher ramp than I did.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I was slightly surprised PUBG managed to gain as much ground as it did on consoles, but it had such a strong boost from the PC buzz that it didn't matter, and Fortnite was just barely getting into the genre when it came to Xbox. The large importance of bullet drop is not something that was really a factor in popular shooters on consoles, other than a bit in Battlefield, and the snail pace much of PUBG's matches have wasn't common.

Fortnite really won out primarily because Epic have decades of experience. They were able to make a much more stable and reliable base game much faster (on the same engine even), and realized that having extremely frequent updates will make the player-base much more interested long term, as well as the challenge system the BattlePass brought. I think everything else is just a bit more appealing to the masses and that did the rest of the work. Seeing other players that are good at building is a hell of a lot more exciting then fully grasping bullet drop on all weapons, and I'd say easier to grasp and learn yourself.

I still think one of PUBG's biggest weaknesses is Player Unknown himself. He has said multiple times that he isn't really a gamer and doesn't play much other than the simulation style Arma and the mods he made. I'd guess good chunk of the questionable decisions with game design and to a lesser degree monetization come from him. That combined with the known to be kind of scummy BlueHole have led to where the game is now.

Yep, it's a Cisco error I'm getting. Very obnoxious.

We've gotten a few of them to go BC, so surely they aren't holding out on the big ones? I like to think of them as wanting to release all three at the same time and there being a LOT of content to test before they do.
I'm still under the assumption that Square-Enix has some kind of understanding with Sony that Xbox can't have any games the PS4 doesn't. So we're getting all those FF games 2-4 years after PS4 did, and big titles which cost a lot to develop (FFXV, KHIII), but nothing before Sony.

The IPs they have from Eidos are no big deal, they fully support BC with Tomb Raider, Just Cause, etc., but I'm skeptical we'll ever get FFXIII and its sequels. I'd love to be wrong.

For anyone that still cares, Mass Effect Andromeda is now Xbox One X enhanced.

I guess that's one of the rumored "surprises" for N7 Day tomorrow.

Well that's a surprise. I will continue to defend this game, it has been patched for the tech problems for a long time, and it's a perfectly good space RPG with great combat. It may not live up to the greatness of ME2-3, but on its own, I had a lot of fun with it.

I started this months ago because it was on sale. I played the multiplayer and got sucked into that mode for a while which I was really surprised by. Haven't gotten far in the story but now that it is enhanced maybe I will get back into it.

I agree the coverage was all about the many technical issues, and now that many of those were fixed it is totally playable. Again, I'll say that there is something really cool with the multiplayer so I suggest people try it.

I don't really know if there is much else they could do. I'm curious as to who did this enhancement with the studio dead and Bioware Prime likely crunching on Anthem. I hope we don't get bullshit announcements like an N7 skin in Anthem or something.

The delayed sequel book came out today to zero fanfare, and apparently the male Ryder's voice actor narrated the audio version, and also said he expects this is the last time he'll work on the series for a long time. I guess advertising the book and X enhancement could be all they have for tomorrow.

Yep, the MP was very similar to ME3, class-based horde mode. Would have been better without micro-transactions but if you know what you're doing, you can get plenty of stuff just from playing the game. Only thing I hated was the random class upgrades, but Gears 4 did the exact same thing, and it does actually encourage you to experiment with different classes. I'm guessing the MP is pretty dead now though.

I was actually referring to the other RPGs published my Squeenix, but I appear to have been mistaken. I generally think of all of these games interchangeably:

Infinite Undiscovery - Published by S-E, not BC
The Last Remnant - Published by S-E, not BC
Lost Odyssey - Published by Microsoft, BC

So, in conclusion, never mind. :p

If I wanted to split hairs, then I'd say the studio isn't dead but rather got merged with EA Motive. But yeah, for all intends and purposes, Bioware Montreal is truly dead. I'll buy the book later down the road as I do want to know how they give the story closure.

Also, the Microsoft Game Studios twitter account posted that they'll be streaming ME1 tomorrow. So I guess that'll be for N7 Day.

Is there any chance these tom Clancy games will be added to the digital marketplace? Has it been done with any games besides mass effect 2 and 3?

Splinter Cell Blacklist, Rage and just last week, the original Just Cause had digital versions added.

Alpha Protocol was added 4 years after release but that one isn't BC.

they have sweepstakes stuff for amazon credit but nah

Sweet. I only knew about the mass effect games off the top of my head. I'll keep my hopes up that they go digital. Trying not to add anything to the physical backlog, especially since I won't be getting to either of these games any time soon.

Could just be a stream to celebrate since that isn't Bioware or EA mentioning it, but having any of the older games X enhanced would be pretty awesome. I was watching something recently that had ME 1 on PC running at high resolution and there was a ton of detail you missed on 360.

Last Remnant just received an HD remaster that isn't on Xbox, I'm not sure if it was PC exclusive though.

Dead Space ... sequels?

I only remember the one glorious game.
Yup.

So let me get this straight. The game was a console exclusive :)360: only) as the :ps3: version never released, and now the game will release ONLY on :ps4: ten years later with upgraded graphics and for only $20.

That seems about right.

I never really heard all that great of feedback on Last Remnant, not as bad as Infinite Undiscovery though I guess.

Dead Space 2 was still good, come on guys.

And how could you forget this masterpiece?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kTqHIFV8ZE

So Road Redemption is out today on PS4 and is supposed to be coming on Xbox One. Wonder if it is being held to be announced with GamePass this weekend?

Motorcycle combat game that looks pretty good and has decent (but not great) reviews.

They included this with Dead Space 2 for the PS3. I played the Wii version before, but I wanted to try it in HD. It really is one of the better rail shooters, although it's a bit complicated for a game in that genre. Certainly a high point in the often iffy Wii library.

I heard good things, honestly. And 3 sounded like an interesting coop experience. I just really love the first one, lol.
DS2 is fantastic. DS1 - > DS2 is Alien -> Aliens. Very different, but both excellent in their own ways.

And maybe DS3 -> Alien 3 in the sense that... some good ideas, not terrible, but not really want fans of the first two wanted in a third entry.

Dead Space Ignition is the only backwards compatible game that won't work for me on Xbox One.  I can download it on Xbox 360 and play it, but on Xbox One it won't play and asks me if I own the game.  Won't let me buy it again, says I already own it.  Microsoft support said I need to contact the studio to re-issue the game to me, you know... Visceral Studios... the studio that closed...

In honor of using our freedom and voting, I'm going to give away one free digital copy of  fuck A Legend Reborn! All you have to do is like this post and I'll pick someone from the pool of likes. The cut off time is 8:00pm tomorrow.

So Road Redemption is out today on PS4 and is supposed to be coming on Xbox One. Wonder if it is being held to be announced with GamePass this weekend?

Motorcycle combat game that looks pretty good and has decent (but not great) reviews.
hopefullly is like the older road rage games

I played Road Redemption on Steam on and off over the last 4 years from Early Access to release. I had a blast with it. Can't speak to the console ports though. It's rogue lite where you play until you die but you earn experience points to power your rider and bike up for the next run. Lot of neat weapons and a procedural generated track makes for lots of replayability

Anyone have wwe 2k19? Is there a showcase mode?

I generally have to buy this game every year for my son on his birthday. Id rather not buy the season pass if there is no showcase mode. He never knows the old guys anyways. If there is showcase mode then I may buy for me to use.

There is a Daniel Bryan showcase mode. The season pass is just wrestlers, moves, and a stats boost for your MyPlayer. No other showcase other than the Bryan one.

Live is fucked up now and it's a gamble  getting digital games to even load. This is like the 3rd this month this happened and it's only the 6th.

And for some fucking reason, people want an all digital future.

Really surprised to see Mass Effect Andromeda get the X1X treatment. I have that one sitting on a shelf still.
It's worth a playthrough if you enjoyed the rest of the Mass Effect games. I love the first three games in the series and while it's definitely a step down from the original trilogys highs I still had a lot of fun with it.

I liked this because of the voting aspect. Not so sure about Shaq Fu though ...

Forza Motorsport 7 Update

Prize/Loot Crates have been replaced by the Race Shop.

You can now buy Mods, Driver Gear, and Badges. Seems to be 7 mods, 4 Driver Gear, and 2 Badges at a time. The items will sell out as they are purchased but the shop changes/restocks items every 6 minutes.

Mods seem to max at $10k. I've seen Driver Gear from $10k to $300k. Haven't seen any bandges over $1k.

Update: just saw a legendary badge for $4k
