Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Well, we did see Mass Effect make it to PS3. I think it just really depends on what the deal is.
I was just reading about that, and I think the whole Mass Effect thing came down to the buyout of Bioware by EA and a deal between MS and EA, as Bioware had a contract with MS that preceded the buyout.

Mass Effect 2 also came out on the 360 almost a full year ahead of the PS3, which I'm sure was also part of said deal.

Honestly my biggest issue was that I had to have the Xbox One on all the time if I wanted to watch TV. I really hope at some point they add a by pass for that. I know I could just get a switch and do it that way but I already have to many switches with a PS4, PS3, Wii U, Cable and 360 lol.
I agree. I want a low power pass through mode. My wife wants nothing to do with the XBOX, so if I could leave it out of the equation for her, but I would be able to use it, that would be great.

...and 3D BluRay. They really should beat Sony to the punch on this.

how do you get x1 controller connected to pc does the play charge kit work diff then 360 one that did not transfer data? n/m it just uses a normal mini usb cable

Yep, when cable is plugged in it transmits data and charges/powers the controller if the rechargeable battery is in place. Wireless 360 controller didn't transmit data over the cable when plugged in.

Yeah I understand that. Maybe it's an age thing.

I'm 34, my "media" stuff is basically the center of my time when I'm not working or exercising. There isn't much I can ask for at this point, other than Apple buying the Xbox One and my phone iPad and Mac also running through it lol.
I'm 35 and none of that stuff really appeals to me. I don't watch much live tv, no YouTube, no interest in twitch streams etc. I like to just focus on one thing at a time, so snapping things doesn't appeal to me. I prefer my cheap Harmony remote to voice commands.

That said, I totally get the appeal for people like you that like and make use of all those features. I just don't have any use for them personally.

I also try to limit time in front of the TV anymore to just gaming or watching stuff with the fiancé and spend more time working, reading and doing things out of the house. So I probably would have been more interested in it a few years ago.

thanks for info i might have to get mini usb to play with it on pc. i use a 360 rockcandy controller now for pc gaming but i hate the buttons on it.

It's worth noting Phil Spencer said they needed to bring more games to PC. I doubt this means a PS4 version is in the works, I'm pretty sure Microsoft funded and published Dead Rising 3 so I'm sure they had some say for a PC port.

yeah just like titanfall ms gave tons of money to help make dr3. only dead rising game to come to ps 3 was dr2 which had nothing to do with ms what so ever unlike first game and 3rd game.

The new Smartglass is pretty amazing. Giving you a universal remote to control your TV, Receiver, etc. Baffles me why people still shit on the X1, it's such an awesome overall device.

Anyone know how to edit your pins in smart glass? Can't find it.
Hmm, it should have prompted how to do it, at least that's how it did it for me. In any case you should be able to press and hold an icon and move it just like a tile on their Windows Phone. I was able to move all my pins around to what I wanted in less than 30 seconds. Very cool your Xbox One will sync up to your changes. It's quite an appreciated feature. Remote is a cool idea too. I don't have live cable (do have Hulu+/NHL through cable Internet) but if I did I would definitely be using it. I think smartglass' main strength is whenever a game uses it as a companion app. I think it's really cool to play with the Dead Rising 3. Glad that's coming to PC, I've had a rocky road with that franchise but DR3 is great, a lot of fun.

Considering it's published by Microsoft, I don't see that happening. Windows was always a possibility, though, as it's still an MS platform.
I was reading on GAF and it appears the PC version is published by Capcom, so unless Microsoft put in a no PlayStation clause then this appears timed and could be coming to other consoles. It'll be fun to see how well it performs on the PC since it ran pretty poorly at times on the Xbox One. But with this announce and PVZ Garden Warfare, Xbox Ones exclusives are eroding away, making fewer reasons to own one. E3 is going to be interesting.

That Thorton picture was no where near his likeness. Which means another year of piss poor models. However, the arenas they posted have been looking good and you can see they finally added 3 more refs to the game. I have bitches a long time about 1 ref. It's something stupid but it bothered me, besides the horrible AI and stupid physics. Time will tell however.

Not to start a fanboy war here but I'm almost positive the PS4 isn't looking that healthy exclusive wise either. Figure Knack, Killzone, and Infamous then the rest is mostly made up of Indie games and MMO's you can find on PC.

yeah seems like 2015 is the first legit year for next gen gaming to be honest. let's be honest xbox has never had exlusive after exclusive on 360 and most people would agree ps3 had better ones. This day and age people get system their friends have and we are almost past the point hardcore gamers getting systems. E3 will be huge for ms and it needs to be with sunset overdrive which i think will b esystem seller for x1. With the order being delayed for ps4 as of right now i don't think it has any big game coming only for ps4 this fall as of yet.

Good episode of Podcast Unlocked (#143) this week. They're hoping for a Crackdown 3 reveal and I have to agree there as I would love that and again think the cloud boosted physics would be awesome, a solution to the frame drop when everything was exploding with the previous ones). The industry has grown so much that we're pretty much have timed exclusives or early timed DLC, as in regards to Call of Duty on Xbox, but i laugh when anyone says yeah but it's also on PC. You do know who Microsoft is right?
Yeah The Witcher 3 - Pre-E3 Trailer: http://youtu.be/hJlkMAZTEPI

Wow, The Witcher 3 looks amazing. I couldn't get into 2, but I may have to try it again before for this game. And the CE looks damn good too.

Fizzie spotted at e3.

MS better drop some bombs at E3, from a exclusivity stand point losing Dead Rising 3 is a huge blow.

But I'm past the age of fanboyism. Owning all the consoles and a half decent pc along with a a beastly android/iphone is the way to go. OWN EVERYTHING! lol.

I'm starting to get sick of the Xbox One's slot loading drive. It happens way too much where I will put BF 4 or a Blu Ray in the drive and my xbox will sit there and do nothing. Then it will say. Sorry we can't play this disc. Why don't you try inserting a Xbox One game or Blu Ray. Really?

I feel like it's the launch of Titanfall all over again. So when a Microsoft title, whom foot the bill/resources, is also available on PC that means it's not an exclusive any more? Microsoft's territory is Xbox and PC so this is standard fare imo.

Its not a console exclusive anymore when its on more than one system. Using that logic are you going to start listing all games that are PC only as apart of Xbox One exclusives?

hard boot fixes that it's just like putting pc in standby things get mixed up. If you don't like it turn off the fast start option.

xbox one = ms

pc (mostly) = microsoft

at this point no one would buy a x1 for dr3

if Capcom is publishing it for PC its making no money for Microsoft. Its not like they get a cut of every PC game that gets sold on Steam, etc.

Honestly I just find it funny how people have been saying for the last several months Microsoft wants to kill PC gaming, and how Sony backs it stronger than Microsoft like when the PS4's controller worked from the get go.

Now Microsoft is apparently starting to push more of it's exclusive (And funded) games to PC, and the internet blows up with talk about them giving away exclusives, not caring about Xbox, etc etc.

I understand that. But its not making them money is it? Do they get a cut from it?
I'm not sure if they get royalties since it's technically their API but pretty much every PC game uses Microsoft's DirectX code, also worth noting they do make money off of Windows licenses. It would be foolish to say that doesn't contribute anything. I mean pretty much anyone who plans to build a gaming PC is going to get a copy of Windows to go alongside it.

Seriously, Microsoft could announce dollar bill dispenser on Xbox One.

Oh come on, who uses cash anymore, gawd useless paper, plus I could just go to anywhere that has an ATM to get money, pssh. Microsoft isn't a gaming console, it's an ATM now.

Forza 5 and the Car Pass have been updated for Games With Gold discounts. They're both 33% off making the game $40 and the Car Pass about $34. Not bad discounts but I feel they should have done 50% for at least the game. I know I would have gotten in at $30.

Prices are still updating on the store.

Think I'll be getting that SP with the Live Currency I got from BB today.

Fable Anniversary got confirmed for PC...not going to lie kind of annoying that this gets announced for PC before an Xbox One collection. I hope they don't completely over focus on PC here.

Well the Fable game for Xbox One is Fable Legends. As of now it's only coming out for the Xbox One, not 360, nor PC. It's prob a 2015 title though as we've only just seen a concept trailer.

An Xbox One collection of the Fable games would be an insta-buy for me.  There are two series that I'm stupid for, Fable and Mass Effect (and maybe Alan Wake)

That being said, I HIGHLY doubt Fable Anniversary would port to the X1 outside of some kind of collection.  Microsoft is keen to put high fidelity stuff on their shiny new system, not just any old (in this case, quite literally) game.  They'll get their sales on the 360 with that game.

Anyone can make software for Windows and Microsoft doesn't have to know about it and they receive no royalties for it as it's an open platform. That's why with windows 8 they are pushing the new closed side of Windows, the Apps and App store because they get a cut of all software sold through it. Also I think the point Deader was trying to make is the more games on Windows the less reason for people to buy an Xbox One, which is the entire point of an exclusive, to get you to buy the platform the software is exclusive too.

Their sudden push for PC gaming is actually weird as it would appear they gain almost nothing financially from it as they get no royalties and they can't push Xbox Live service on it either and it takes sales away from a product that offers them these financial benefits. I almost think this sudden surge is to prevent people from thinking about Steam Machines and moving to Linux as their operating system especially if they use their PC primarily for gaming.
