ZUNE and your X360 - ZUNE HD Now in 64GB - Latest Update Now Supports AVI/XviD

The ability to easily watch divx is the only thing keeping me from buying a Zune HD. Same with the all you can eat monthly payment plan not working with tv shows.

The all you can eat plan for $15 is a pretty friggin amazing value shows or not IMO. I mean, at the end of the month you get $10 worth of tracks for free, so for comitting the equivalent of one CD per month + an extra $5 you get unlimited music download...

That works on your PC...

...which also works on your Zune

...which also works on your XBOX 360

...which also works in your car if you have Sync, with voice command music search

I have a 2010 Mustang w/ Sync, X360, and Zune - with the whole ecosystem going its pretty much music bliss w/ the $15 plan! :D

What happens to the songs at the end of the month ?
Do they delete themselves from your collection automatically ?

I'd hate to have a bunch of phantom songs showing up .

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

My Zune works....it plays music, syncs to my PC...but there's no longer a fucking display. It just has a backlight. I've looked around and have tried a couple methods to try to reset it, but nothing works. The one last thing I could try is to completely erase all the content and have it reset back to factory settings, but I'd like to save that for last if possible.

Anyone have the same problem I'm having? If this is the point of no return, I guess its time to upgrade to the HD.

Hmm... My Zune HD is having trouble when I try to unlock it from screen lock mode, or sometimes it doesn't want to get out of black screen mode at all (won't turn back on, etc)...damn and I have had this thing for about 2 months now :(

I've had that problem too and I JUST bought the thing. I might exchange it this weekend if it keeps happening. That's very shitty though....1 day and it has issues already.

Don't make me go back to the dark side MS.

like it or not, that's just the way it is. mine does it too, i'm sure all do. wait for an update or something. its not that big of a deal.

Not related directly-My computer I registered and synced my zune 120 on is gone and not usable anymore. I have registered it onto my other computer but not as a guest(whihc I later found out I should have done-too late now). So I dont lose the media can I "copy to collection"the stuff on my zune and then sync that back onto my zune? Thanks

That tends to happen to my Zune HD as well. I just tap the home button or the power button on top several times and it'll "wake up" after a while. I'm guessing the OLED screen takes a bit longer than usual to get going again.

Thanks for the tips guys. I got this as my b-day present back in October so I can't exchange it :(

Anyways how about tips on cleaning? Any good chemicals I can use? I thought about using an LCD cleaner but since this is an OLED screen it might not work as well. Suggestions?
just a paper towel moistened with water. shouldn't need more.
I was using a micro fiber cloth for glasses, but I want clear up any smudges still left behind.

ok I am literally 1 click away from purchasing the Zune HD but I have 1 question regarding the Zune Pass. I have a daily commute on train (underground) and I was wondering how would I be able to have access to streaming music from Zune pass when I wont have a wi-fi connection? Is this possible?

No, it's not possible. I'm pretty sure that's not even what the Zune Pass does.

You'll have to refresh the library of music on your player before leaving the house.

The Zunepass doesn't stream anything on your zune, afaik.

You go to the zune marketplace on your pc at home. Queue up all the music you want. Sync to your Zune and go.

I'm pretty sure when I did the 14 day free trial, i could stream full songs from the marketplace when I had wifi. This was almost a year ago though...I was hoping the on-device marketplace interface and browsing would be improved, making the zune pass awesome at home and on the go. But I don't remember reading about this feature in any Zune HD reviews...hmm

Oh yes! If this is correct then it would work in my situation

Hey humidore, you aren't really "streaming" per say. You go the marketplace on your Zune, hit "play" for a song, then your Zune is basically downloading it temporarily. I was pretty sure "streaming" referred to the idea that data is constantly being fed to your Zune which is not the case here, but you are correct in the way that it works when you simply hit "play" instead of adding it to your cart and downloading it. Oh, and I know the whole hitting play thing works because I have a Zune HD myself. The only thing I'd like to mention is that the screen, while responsive, chokes up on me more than I'd like. I'll hit the button for the volume/forward/back buttons to pop up and usually I'll just get a black screen. It's irritating, but not a deal breaker. I hope MS does something to fix this as it happens at least twice a day when it shouldn't be happening at all.

A big plus for me would be if you could queue up songs from the marketplace (using "add to now playing" maybe?) on the device. Is that possible on the HD?

You can go to the marketplace on the HD itself, browse music, add it to your cart and download it for free (with zunepass). I did it a ton last night.

You can also just play music from the marketplace at will as long as you have a wifi hotspot.

i just got a zune hd [ i also have the 1st gen zune for years now ] and can't get the 1st or 2nd generation FM transmitter to work with it. note that the transmitters work with my old zune.

any one have any ideas on how to get it to work?

I could be wrong, but I'm thought I read that they changed something with the connector, that makes some peripherals not work with the ZuneHD. Thus making you buy new peripherals.

Ok I am having this very strange problem.

Recently I have been converting SD-DVD's to the zune and playing around with handbrake to keep the quality very good and under 1 gb. I cleared up some space and I thought I had enough room to put a 1 gb movie since the zune said I had about 6gb free.

The zune software is saying that I have ZERO space left. So I checked the zune outside of the software (in it's storage settings) and it says I have 6gb free. I deleted all videos and the only thing I have on there is 23gb of music.

What could be causing the Zune software to think there is 9.39 gb of VIDEOS on there when there is NO videos on the device! I have even deleted the old videos from my hard drive where it was snycing from and it's still saying I have 9 gbs of videos on the zune software when the zune hardware is saying I don't have any videos!

HELP!

On the Zune software there's some settings to adjust the backup storage space, at least I think it's called backup. But it's space that you set aside on the unit for performance and updates...etc. I believe you set it up by percentage...maybe that's what's taking up the space?

It's actually called "reserved space". Just connect your Zune and adjust.

I don't keep videos or pictures on my player so I have them both set to zero.

That's what it was...thanks for the clarification bmachine. I'm hoping they announce a price cut to the HD series soon as I've been Zuneless for too long.

I actually just noticed that you weren't in my Social feed anymore, Link...that sucks! I'm trying to unload my 80GB Zune...if you're interested, just shoot me a PM.

I'd love to go in for an HD but I can't get a player with only 32GB of storage. I'm content with my 120GB for now.

Nope my reserved space is set to ZERO percent. Software still showing 9 gigs of video on the zune but the zune hardware is saying there is NO videos and 6GB free.

Something fishy is going on here.
Interesting...I wonder if that would do anything for my dead-ish Zune. It plays like one or two songs and then it freezes.
Can't hurt, right? ;)
That fixed the problem! Thanks Bmachine!
No problem. Happy to help.

seriously folks what are some of your settings for Handbreak? I have tried the "recommended" settings I have read online, but that usually makes anything in the background all pixelated and so on. I have played around with a few of the settings a few months ago and got like a 2h30m movie under 1gb for the Zune HD. I tried to recreate the settings from memory but that ended up either making it unplayable on the zune, or pixelated crap :(
which screen protector do you guys use?
I bought a hard plastic case with screen protector combo on ebay for roughly $15 shipped. It does its job well ;).

I was just going to ask what protector to get. Man the invisible shield store in my mall wants $35 to full shield with install. That's steep. But I feel like I don't use my Zune as much because I don't want to scratch it up.

Can anyone speak to how easy the screen or backs scratch?

Invisible Shield come with lifetime warranty. So if you ever need to replace it, it's covered. That's the main difference.
