UPDATE: May 26

Yeah...still no list, BUT

CAGs have been mentioning lists received by stores and new price markings taking place. Its all a matter of us drilling employees for info or attaining the list.
-----------------------------------------------

Just noticed the Game days sale ad in the latest game informer. Last year's sale was pretty decent so its worth a thread. I'll try to post the ad and coupon later. Best part is the coupon doesn't say anything about being void if copied. No specifics yet on the sale.

"Hundreds of games and accessories up to 50% off"

Things to note:
- Should stack with edge (assuming there are used deals).
- Offer ends 6/30/08
- If you know the specifics, let us know!

Canada's Sale ( not known to be the same as the one here in the states)
I'd love to have a sealed copy of Odin Sphere and Katamari. I hope that's true :)

Also, do any of you know: Do Gamestops ever sell their games sealed in plastic? It seems to me most open them, keep the discs in the front of the store and put a ton of ugly yellow stickers on the front/back/insert (I hate when they put it on the artwork directly!). Also, if you order a new game from Gamestop online I assume it should come factory-sealed? Any help would be great. Thanks for all the info on Game Days OP and others!
New games come sealed from Gamestop online. In store, you can always ask for a sealed copy. They should only be gutting one, maybe two games for the shelf. I've found that most of the time I can get a sealed copy.

Most GameStops I have visited or heard about open a handful of copies for display purposes. Sometimes, it's seem it could be one copy, for smaller titles. Larger titles will sometimes have a bunch open for display. For the most part, when I go to a GS and buy a new game, I get a sealed copy. I have only been offered an opened copy, maybe, four or five times.

Now, I say most stores, but it is inevitable that someone will start complaining that this isn't true, that they have "never" gotten a sealed game from GameStop, and therefore, they open most or all of their games. I will not deny that this is possible somewhere, but I have never seen it and only heard of it sparingly.

And yes, if you order a new copy online, you get a sealed copy. I have never, ever heard of anyone getting an opened copy.
Wait a sec... im seriously confuzzled bout this. So this is gonna be a texas only thing? or the answer is not out yet?
Why are you thinking it's Texas only? :whistle2:s

It's national, but I don't have a clue where you got that idea from.
Probably because

IIRC, at least at the store I went to, all the "Game Days" games were opened and gutted and placed into a sale bin in the middle of the floor.
IIRC, at least at the store I went to, all the "Game Days" games were opened and gutted and placed into a sale bin in the middle of the floor.
I didn't partake in previous "Game Days," but according to what some others have said in this thread, they were able to get new games during the event, and then the store opened up what was left and threw them up it up as "used," for higher prices than what they were during the sale.

One of my GS last year opened the games and sold them that way, the other had them still sealed. I have no idea why that one store opened them. Both had the games the same prices.
Lots of early June birthdays around here :D. My birthday is on June 1st so I'll have some coin to spend the following day for this sale.
June 1st represent!
Every game in the bins from last year were still sealed.
At least at the 3 Gamestops I went in to.
Same. Went to about 5 and every game on sale was sealed.

So there's good news and bad news.

The good news is, there are quite a few more current-gen titles in this year's Game Days sale than last years. Also, I can confirm that both Odin Sphere and Katamari are on the list. Unfortunately an official list has yet to be published, but shipments for this sale have started arriving at most stores and if you ask one of the guys behind the counter, they can probably give you a basic rundown on what's coming.

The bad news is that due to theft problems from last year's sale, ALL Gamestops have been instructed to open EVERYTHING, so that all the sale items are empty boxes. It this is the sort of thing that really bothers you, then yea. Be prepared to be disappointed.

Also of note, last year's Game Days sale ended with a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale on used product. ouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened again this year!

That blows...

If it's true that they are opening everything, I'll just wait for this.

At least with opening of these games, there is a valid reason. A sale like that, with how small most Gamestops are, with the increased foot traffic, I'm sure there was a huge problem with theft last year.

Yeah, I will agree that there is certainly a valid reason.

Definitely sucks though from a standpoint of getting sealed games. If they are opening everything though, should cut down on the hoarders, in theory.

good point

In theory, which I hope holds up. I mean, most of the hoarders or going to buy them to sell somewhere else, and it's a lot harder to get full value if they are open. I really hope that is how it goes.

Less than two weeks away and they are still super tight lipped about it =(

What is going on at GS, that last B2G1 free sale was totally unannounced as well.

Last year you could order everything online and get sealed copies, I also found some stores that left sealed games out on the floor! But the hoarding was pointless, I don't think there was anything actually profitable as the value of all the games went down after the sale.

Yeah, there never really is much point in hoarding. I will admit there have been times I may have picked up a 2nd copy of something to sell online or to a friend. Most of the time though, I'm just getting one for me.

so empty boxes = no manuals?...i don't care if a game the game is sealed or not, but i never buy games that don't have manuals

if they're ripping out the manuals, i'm just gonna hope that the employees stash em in a box in the back so that I can possibly get it before they throw em away

i've been wanting to get odin sphere for forever waiting for a price drop, lol

I was assuming that they were just pulling out the discs, not the manuals too. What's the point of stealing a case/manual?
I was assuming that they were just pulling out the discs, not the manuals too. What's the point of stealing a case/manual?
Dude, I totally steal cases and manuals! You can sell them for $0.50 on craigslist.

I have gotten an opened copy from gamestop.com. It looked just like it would in store, sticker on the outside with the price, and a clear sticker covering the opening.

I will not say that I "never" have received a sealed game at GS. However, if I want to ensure I get a sealed copy I have to call around to the 4 stores in my area. 90% of the time they will not have a sealed copy for something that has been out over 2 weeks.

I even had an instance where the employee tired to give me an open copy of a game that I pre-ordered. They did not reference the preorder list and opened the two games they received in.

the thing with opened game/display games is that for all practical purposes, there are some "new" games that've been on the floor for a while, and the same game used would probably be in better condition than those new-and that's my biggest problem with getting an opened game.
Is this the same sale that featured Condemned last year for $19.99 or whatever it was?
yup

Each store does things a little differently, so it's hard to say. My local Gamestop takes the disc AND the manual out of the box, and then when you purchase, both items go back in the box. I have seen Gamestops who leave the manuals in the boxes on the floor. Seems to be a space-saving tactic more than anything. Your mileage may vary on this one.

If the practice really gets to you, just ask to see the disc before you buy it. If you see something you don't like, walk away. Fact of the matter is, if you jump on this sale in the first week, those discs won't have a lot of time to become accidentally scuffed in storage or what have you.

Personally I'm more worried that there will be sale stickers all over the boxes. Last year the stickers were taken off of the boxes about halfway through the sale, leaving a nasty residue. Let's hope the powers that be at Ye Olde Gamestop have more sense this time.

Exactly, on all points. Good post.

I'm definitely interested in the PSP core deal. Might be worth it depending upon the restrictions.

*EDIT* After looking at the exclusions involved on the add that gamer602 posted, still a deal, but not worth it to me. All games have to be complete and have at least $8 trade value.

If we have anything similar, nothing of interest to me. All the games that are decently priced I already have or don't want. Bastards.

I saw DS "Core" and thought "phat" too but I think they mean just without a bundled game...cuz they show a DS Lite. Plus, I don't think Nintendo is going to bring back the phat DS anytime soon...unless "DS Core" is a new-ultra-lite model DS that nobody's heard of yet (only in rumors)...but again I doubt that even more ^_~

Good system deals for those who don't have the systems. Curious now what the US will have.

The 2 select used games for $20 might be good, depending upon the used games. Same restrictions on the games for the DS, complete at least $8 trade-in value.

PSP SKU: 610587-8
DS SKUs: 612365-7, 611042-3, 606045-3, 606047-9, 604314-5

does anyone think the psp and ds deals will apply to the us also? and can anyone give me a list of games with a trade in value of 8 bucks to include in that. im gonna pick up a ds and psp.

Yesterday, I noticed one EB had stuff all over their counter that I guess is for the upcoming Game Days sale. I asked about it and he said that they didn't get a list of what games will go on sale but they started receiving some stuff in. What I saw was Diablo (the chess box set).

Last year, only Diablo 2 and the expansion pack were on sale for $9.99. Last year's sale was awesome but even moreso for PC gamers.

Space Quest, Kings Quest, Starcraft box sets for $9.99, Rise of Nations at $3.99, Freedom Force I think this may have been $6.99 but forgot... Then they had Nightfall which I remember which was $24.99 (originally $39.99). Sonic Heroes for $6.99, World of Warcraft III expansion for $9.99, I believe some director type of game for $9.99.

For PS2, I remember 24, Blitz, a lot of Sonic games and XBOX 360, I remember "Condemned" for $17.99 and the PC version for $15.

For DS, I remember Phoenix Wright, Rub Rabbits, Age of Empires and forgot what else...

As far as accessories, I remember XBOX 360 fans, a PS2 controller I think and misc.

But a lot of Sonic games I remember on sale.

I think this year, since the promotion uses "hundreds of games and accessories up to 50% off", I wonder if they will incorporate used games to rid of them. Last year was pretty much new games.

I'd love to see the list as well. I need a PSP. >_

It is probably a fairly safe bet that anything they sell for 24.99 or higher gets you at least $8 in store value. It may actually start at 19.99 but I figure starting at 24.99 is a better place.

These *might* be some of the games included in the sale. I say this because we got a lot of these today (and apparently yesterday as well). These are games that don't sale, yet we received quite a few. We also got a lot of GS brand accessories, such as wireless ps3 remotes, Wii stand/cooler, and more "Micro" wireless ps2 remotes.

27843701994286868325896aj6.jpg

I saved the wrong picture on my phone. The other one showed the sku completely, therefore it can't be determined for what system the game may be for (if it applies to +1 systems). But if you really care, then you can match the price and the latter half of the sku online.

I should be receiving a list next week of what the sale may consist of.

I guess we can safely assume that the PSP games listed will be in the $10-$15 range like it was last year. If this is the case, I'd love to pick up Crazy Taxi. Loved the original on the Dreamcast, but the sequels...not so much.
