Those are crappy prices, for the most part. Might get Guin Saga Part 2, just cause I have Part 1 from GoHastings when it was like $4.

Hell Girl S2 and S3 have a complete edition. Ookami-san was that price when I pre-ordered, and is barely a couple bucks more on Amazon. Tenchi just got Pioneer's first bluray remaster, so buying the Ryo-oh-ki DVDs seem like a waste. Shangri-La is pretty, but pretty boring.

One Piece isn't a bad price though. Scratch that, $15.99 on Amazon.

Wrong release. This is OVA 3. It was never released by Pioneer (only by FUNimation) and never gotten a Blu-ray release in Japan either.
2011 and 2010 for the heck of it.
WTF... A lot of the same stuff is on this sale too, except its More expensive this time! I wish I had known about Rightstuf last year :(.

I knew it was OAV 3. I just thought the remastered included these. But I guess the remasters are just the original 13.

This sale has been a huge letdown so far. Even the stuff I was hoping to see isn't discounted enough. I see repeats from last year that are more expensive this time around, too. :/

I have heard good things about L/R and if I cared at all about keeping up with One Piece I would bite on those, but, eh.

Interested in kurenai and Rozen Maiden. Been waiting for kurenai to drop in price. We'll probably never get a Blu-ray release since the series isn't as popular as a Clannad or Angel Beats, so I'll take what I can get, I suppose. Just need one more item to get free S&H. I'll wait to see what else pops up.

I'm really hoping a retailer starts selling the FMA: Brotherhood "part" sets for a cheap price. I'm aware Amazon has the whole series on sale, but I already have part one and two and prefer the artwork provided with the "part" sets so I want to remain consistent.

It would also be nice if Fist of the North Star and Lupin III went on sale. I guess TRSI can't have a studio sale on Discotek stuff, it seems.

That sucks about Gurren Lagaan. Are the movies worth checking out?

The Tenchi Ryo Ohki Collection is the only release I would consider at this point.

Any recommendations for Excel Saga? I'm a big fan of Bobobo and this series appeared to have the same style of random humor.

It's actually most rather than all (if you consider reversible cover as having the series title on the spine). If that's the case, it's hit and miss on releases prior to early 2011.
All the S.A.V.E. covers are reversible so that the neon green spine doesn't get seen on shelves.
Not all of them. Heroic Age's blu-ray reverses into just a picture so the spine doesn't have the name of the anime on it or anything.
That sucks about Gurren Lagaan. Are the movies worth checking out?
I haven't seen them, but from what I hear the ending is much better than the series.

It is quite insane, but it focuses on a general theme each episode instead of just random wackiness. For example, one episode is a parody of sci-fi, another is war movies, another contrasts American and Japanese animation, etc. A lot of people prefer Larissa Wolcott's Excel from the second half of the series over Jessica Calvello's, but I thought Calvello's voice was perfect and Wolcott just doesn't compare.

I love Excel Saga, it has great, random, off-the-wall humor. It's definitely a guilty pleasure favorite. :)

I had a one without reversible cover, but most of them are.

^Well, it's nice that there's something I actually want in this wave: Both Kobato collections.

Does anyone have an opinion on Otogi Zoshi? For that matter, I notice that a bunch of live-action Korean dramas are on sale, and I'm curious--are any of them actually good (the ones that sound interesting, at least in this wave, are City Hunter, City Hall, and Alone in Love)?

Just a heads-up (for those who don't know already) on the Korean live-action dramas, YA Entertainment is going out of business. It would be a good idea to pick up any titles under them (particular ones from this whole sale) sooner rather than later.

Another question about the Korean dramas, for those who can answer: Does the content ever get to..."objectionable" levels, particularly in terms of romance (e.g., sexual content/nudity)? I'm just curious, since I'm not familiar with K-dramas.

Rarely. Korean mainstream TV is censored. The most sexual content you'll see would be some making out and what not. There's no nudity.

Also, is the anime No. 6 worth a blind buy? It looks kinda interesting.

They're not porn. Asian dramas are just prime time shows. It'd be like asking if Hart of Dixie has nudity.

Edit: That said, I don't watch them. My mom did, as I was growing up. Korean ones typically are higher recommended though.

Now I'm genuinely interested in some of these shows, even moreso given that a few of the $30-and-under collections are upwards of 800 minutes long.

Any thoughts on the three series I mentioned (Alone in Love, City Hall, and City Hunter) would be appreciated. :) I did look them up on Amazon, but I'd still like to hear some CAGs' opinions, if there are any.

I'd say so for that price.

I'd recommend City Hunter, and you don't need to be a fan of the manga or even have read it to be able to get into it. They're quite different from one another, so if you are a fan of the manga or anime don't go in expecting it to have the same type of feel to it. Definitely doesn't take anything away from the show though.

From what I gather, a very (very, very) basic way to describe City Hunter is "Batman in Seoul"; is that true, even to a small degree?

Ehhh...not really...

The whole double life thing is basically where it ends as far as Batman is concerned.
I'd say so for that price.
What anime would you say is the most comparable to No. 9?
Whats wrong with you people lol. Today's sale was the very least interesting to me. o_O
Yeah, Day 4 is the most disappointing so far. Really hoping for some cheaper, solid collections between now and the final day. Need to get myself over $49!

Today's sale adds to my saved cart:
Dream Eater Merry
Kobato 1 + 2
No. 6 (on the fence)

I've been waiting for price drops on Merry and Kobato. I think I have enough now to safely place one order with free shipping. I just need to decide which ones I want first :D

I also wanted to add that the only reason a lot of the Funimation stuff is being looked down on in this sale is because it just happened to correspond with a Funi sale at Amazon. Just because something is $27 here instead of $22 at Amazon, doesn't make RS's price a bad price. It's just that Amz's is simply a beter one. The Sentai stuff is generally priced as low as I've seen it, and I'd much rather buy from RS than from Deep Discount.

Also, I realized that I haven't taken the chance to thank WTK yet for maintaining this thread here again this year. Thank you.

I just looked back through the other days' sales and found two deals I didn't yet add to my cart (one I knew was there and just forgot about it, the other I totally missed the first time):

Hetalia: World Series - Season 4 LE - $19.99 (my sister adores Hetalia and this is the only LE we don't have yet)
Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl - $9.99 (93% off :shock::shock::shock:)

So with those and Kobato Collections 1 & 2 in my cart, I already qualify for free shipping, but unless one of them gets an item counter, I'll hold off on checking out until more days have been unveiled.

Sadly Yawara! Will not be finished unless and this is highly doubtful it is a license rescue seeing as Animego has lost/let lapse the title. Glad I finished my Urusei Yatsura collection :)

Think I can get an extra discount on penguin swimming copies, or does that actually come at a premium?

I'd like to ask for people's opinions here, since this thread sees more traffic than the general anime thread does (and it relates to RS). I'm debating about whether or not to keep my preorder for the Shakugan no Shana season 2 bundle.

The more I keep adding things to my saved cart during this sale, the more I look back at my Shana preorder and wonder whether I should cancel it for now. I preordered it with RS for $72.88. I have the old Geneon release of Season 1 and one of the OVAs, but I still haven't opened it.

If you're not gonna watch it anytime soon, then cancel it. There will always be FUNimation sales going on and by this time next year a Season 2 Collection could be out.

Ugh, Rightstuf wants my money so very badly. I already see Dream Eater merry, Kobato (would like opinions on those two), and world god only knows that I would like to buy.

Shana season 1 on blu is $24.5 at Amazon, so paying almost $80 for season 2 seems crazy. I'm waiting for a full bundle from Funi with Seasons 1-3 on blu in the ~$40 range. Perhaps by Xmas next year.

For Kobato, I thought it was a fun anime to watch with some crossover from Tsubasa. Given the crossover, expect some natural wierdness at random points in the anime that may not always make sense, but I liked it (and bought it last year during RS sale).

World God Only Knows is on my "I want to buy it but it feels expensive" list. I really really liked this series as it had a hilarious protagonist that isn't the annoying "shy/wuss" type and he really doesn't even care about girls or pervy crap. I don't recall any real fan service and the stories revolving around each girl is generally really interesting (i.e. not shallow). So the comedy plus the interesting stories for each girl was a winner for me. I'll figure out by the end of the sale if I've spent enough this year on anime and buy WGOK next holiday or if I like killing my savings account.

I can guarantee you, you won't see a season 1-3 bundle by next Christmas, maybe a season 2 bundle.

Also I want to say every curse word ever thought of because I got payed today, just got home and Shana season 1 was sold out!!! I mean C'mon, I still want it but I'm no longer willing to pay Rightstuf $30 for it when Amazon just had it for $25!
Ugh, Rightstuf wants my money so very badly. I already see Dream Eater merry, Kobato (would like opinions on those two), and world god only knows that I would like to buy.
I've already placed an order for Merry and Kobato. I've heard some fans of the Dream Eater Merry manga didn't care for the anime, so there's a lot of mixed reviews out for that one. Kobato is a good series, and that's a great price for what the series normally costs. For both of them, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find them any cheaper in the future. RS might clear out Kobato next year in order to just keep the complete collection on the shelf, but even then you're probably only talking about a $3-$6 difference per set.

As for Shana, yeah I don't know what the hell I was actually thinking back when I placed that order. I'm not sure if I thought they were 24 epsiode sets (thus being the whole seires) or what. Maybe I was waiting to see what the free gift was, but now it looks like it's just an 8 page artbook. I'm definitely cancelling my preorder tomorrow. Thanks guys.
